1. Looking to get a Galaxy S2 after using a iphone and a samsung captaivaite, after using the Capataive I hated Touchwiz, I want to put a diffrent lock screen and UI over it, but will that get rid of my stock samsung apps or do i need TiBackup to load them back on when im done.
2 I found a UI that i like alot its by robbiekhan here on XDA Im wondering whats involved what i found a post he made im just wondering on if i it will hinder some of the stock apps and such. goo.gl/bQp3h
3. was any of this stuff that he did via a custom ROM that he had to to build, or is it all app store adons and a little extra PNG work?
Please let me know. I am computer literate and good with android phones just never modded one.
Hi all,
I have just installed lightning rom 2.5 and I have noticed that under both Phone and Contacts, there are missing tabs.
e.g.
Under Phone, the contacts tab is missing. I used to be able to slide to the right for more tabs.
How do I go about adding more tabs?
I tried searching but every time I add the word "tab" I get the Samsung Galaxy Tablet threads instead.
Also, under Security, the "SIM Change Alert" and "Remote controls" doesn't seem to be working, every time I tried checking the box, it freezes for awhile and then it says the setup has stopped working.
I wanted to post this in the lightning rom thread, but there's a 10 post restriction, and as such, I am posting here.
I hope someone can kindly help me.
Thanks in advance.
D
I don't know about remote control or sim change alert, but it is a well known change in ICS that those tabs are removed purposely, in their infinite wisdom. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is. One of the many reasons I'm staying on Gingerbread until find an overwhelming reason to go to ICS.
So if this ROM is ICS based, that's your answer.

Ya, will do.
Interestingly enough, My Samsung Nexus S is on ICS as well, but it has contacts in the phone app.

That's cause Nexus S is running AOSP android, and Galaxy S series (including the GS2) runs TouchWiz, which Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, have modded to their liking.
Edit to add: Lite'ning ROM is based on Samsung stock, so it uses the same system apps. This will hold true for any ROM based on Samsung stock, unless the ROM chef changes out specific apps, like the phone in this case.

Thanks for the clarification. I am new to android and have been reading up on how to root/flash custom Rom on my TF201, SG2 and NS one by one. Took me several hours of reading and searching, but I have managed to get them all rooted/flashed without bricking any of them
This forum is loaded with heaps of info, but sometimes it's a bit hard to search for some specific stuff;the 10 post limitation on custom rom threads make it hard for me to ask for help from the author.
Just wondering... if S2's lite'ning ROM is based on Samsung stock (non AOSP), how do people change out specific apps?

You need to be rooted, and you replace certain apk files in the /system/app folder. But you need to be certain to use files compatible with your particular build of Android.
Remote controls

Ah, cool, thanks for the link.
Going to flash to 2.7 first. I hope I don't have to do clear it to factor settings again.
HI FOLKS THIS IS MY FIRST POST. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO WORK AROUND JACPOTCALVIN ROM TO PUT ON FLIPBOARD( WHICH IS FROM GALAXY SIII ) AND ICS DIALER AND ZEAM LAUNCHER WHICH MAKES IT REALLY COOL. WITH THE ICS DIALER IF YOU HAVE SKYPE IT LINKS THE DIALER TO SKYPE MAKING THE PLAYER A REAL VOIP PHONE IN THAT IF YOU HAVE SKYPE CREDIT YOU CAN MAKE CALLS RIGHT AWAY AND ALSO ALL 800 NUMBER ARE FREE TO CALL.
THIS WHERE THE ORIGINAL ROM IS :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575147
THE remade ROM IS HERE
http://depositfiles.com/files/91y8lnnyb
PLEASE YOU HAVE TO BOOT INTO CWM AND INSTALL AND ALSO VPLAYER WORKS WELL ON THIS ROM ESPECIALLY TO VIEW ESPN VIDEOS. THE MUSIC PLAYER WORKS FINE. ON THE ORIGINAL ROM IT DOES NOT WORK.
MY THANKS GOES TO JACPOTCALVIN, ENTROPY( FOR HIS KERNELS) AND ADAM OUTLER.
Love this.
But
Physical keys won't work, they lite up, but no function.
Cant figure out how to patch with noisy fox's patch.
Cant figure out how to load in ICS virtual keys. ( this would solve the physical key issue )
I think its all pretty much cause I'm INT and I'm sure this is a USA rom.
Any ideas anyone ? Im kind of a n00b still. Ive been on here for hours flashing rome and rebuilding zip's making new ones. I have no real clue what I'm doing, just what I've figured out loading rom's on my other devices.
Any help would be awesome

1. Does the flash in the browser work? I watch a lot in websites that are like megaupload.
2. Are the camera and the bluetooth working?

Hi,
i want to swap to a AOSP based rom but i want to be able to take some samsung apks with me... is this at all possible?
the ones i want are:
Dialer (Phone)
Alarm clock
Samsung memo
Gallery
Calculator
Web Browser
fm radio
txt message apk
Most (or all) of these apps require touchwiz framework, so the answer is yes and no.
Yes, if you take also the Samsung's Touchwiz launcher and some libraries (jut enough for these apps to work), but then, that defeats the purpose of going to AOSP.
No, not if you don't want Samsung touchwiz at all.
im sure ive seen people using samsungs camera on AOSP and also "s memo"... :S have they had coding changed to be ported or something?
if so does anyone have any idea if any of the apks ive mentioned have also been ported??
thanks guys really apreciate the help
this forum used to be a lot more helpful :/...
anyway, ive managed to find SOMETHING
there are some ported apks linked below - in case anyone else has the same question as me and maybe sees this thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632639
anyone have any other information about other apks or updates please let me know
You can use this mod to run samsung camera on CM10/AOSP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611
I have used it myself.
You will need to flash it with CMW recovery.
I found this theme while browsing for a black and blue AOSP-ish theme for the messaging app.
It is from the international version, so the mms doesnt work properly but text is good.
Haven't tried the other apps, not really all that concerned with them, but if someone can make this work for our devices, you can take the credit for porting it over, i just want to be able to use it lol.

Not sure how to go about asking permissions and whatnot so if im not doing something nice let me know, but this would be a nice addon for us on this end i think.
Thank you very much!!

So anyone wanna take a shot at this? I just have no clue as to what is needed to be replaced to get the MMS working, that was my biggest thing i wanted from it, i talked to the Dev who made this and he is cool with it being ported, just wanted to see if anyone would have talent to do this.
