Is There Any Rom With Working Fingerprint Functionality? - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

I've already rooted my phone and was planning on flashing a custom ROM, but all the ones I've seen say that the fingerprint sensor is one of their known bugs or issues. Are there any ROMs that actually allows the use of a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device?

nope, none except stock based ROMs as of now. I am sure the devs will get around to it in time, they are all hard at work on this, and doing us all a great favor! so hold tight and it will come sooner than later!

NFC functionality with battery case? And some other Q's

Looking at getting the Z Ultra, but have a few questions/concerns
1) For those of you using a battery case is your NFC still functional? and if so, to what extent compared to stock or what you would consider 'normal'?
2) I seem to read about hardware issues with this phone more often in this forum than what i've typically seen with my past phones, If you could make the purchase again would you be comfortable buying a Z Ultra with no warranty (used/gray market)
3) are the latest OTA's on this device blocking root access/ custom roms? the phone is basically worthless to me unless i can get CM10 or some other type of AOSP rom on it. If the latest OTA's are blocking root access what build number is the cutoff?
I'll probably have some other questions as well, but this is a good start. thanks for your help.

-NFC has a 4cm range. So unless you have a sizable case it will still be fine. That said, you would need to be exact when locating the NFC sensor. As you wouldn't just be able to swipe the peer'd device over the back and expect it to peer. You would have to be very close to the sensor.
-Hardware. Mine is in for repair but that's a fault that no one else seemed to have. I would most certainly check out the unit before buying. But I'm sure people would do that with any device that's over a couple hundred dollars.
=I would still buy this device again.
-OTA: You can root each version of firmware. The latest firmware is .257, and its the hardest and requires more effort, but is still rootable. So you'll be able to put CM10 on it, or CM11 on it in a couple of weeks.
=There are issues with rooting tools at the moment and you would need to investigate that when you come to rooting/ or not rooting.

I just tested this and it works great. The SmartConnect event popped up before I even touched my smart tag. The power case doesn't interfere.

Why isn't fingerprint security working!

Fingerprint print security in Paypal doesn't work on most of the roms I've tried. I get a "Fingerprint bind failure" error.
The one meaningful thing a fingerprint scanner is good for on a phone and it doesn't work, I can't be the only one who has noticed this so where is all the discussion about it, I have found zero meaningful discussion about it and the canned answers out there don't count as meaningful either.
I have successfully configured fingerprint security in Paypal with The Sickness stock deodexed OB1 and I am assuming this is because it's running the stock kernel with the least amount of tampering.
I haven't got it working on Omega rom with the Omega kernel,
I haven't got it working on our 5.1.1 roms with ShinySide kernel's.
I guess I am really curious to hear who else is using fingerprint security with paypal and what rom/kernel you are running.

Yeah I tried finding a fix for this kernel wise and have come up with nothing useful at all.

Thanks for the reply! I was dreading you would be the first one and that is what you were going to say...
Well the good news is I have a short attention span, so tomorrow I'll have let it go... I'm guessing the s6 has similar issues with different kernels too?
In a perfect world I can imagine using fingerprint security for nearly everything important on the phone...

Sony Z5 Compact US Version update.

First off longtime troller first time poster. I just bought a Sony Z5 Compact US Version just received it yesterday. I'm probably considered a light to medium user. I mostly listen to Spotify, text, cloud stuff nothing crazy hard on the phone. So in my initial setup I received and updated to MM 6.0. So I was very happy. Install and phone setup went smooth. So far after 24 hours of use phone works great buttery smooth no issues noticed yet. Battery life appears to be good but obviously I'll report back after a few weeks. Fingerprint scanner works! For me and the way I feel for this phone after a day I might have finally hit the Holy Grail! I'm sure everyone is gonna trash me for not waiting a few weeks to post, but for right now 6.0 seems to me to make this phone shine as it should have when it first came out. Anyone else state side having good experiences?
So the US version of MM has a working fingerprint sensor with no other mods? I might try flashing that over my current Customized Nordic if that's the case. Thinking I might get improved reception on T-Mobile here in the US.
Yea people gonna trash you because where are already many topics out on this update so making a new one isn't needed but guess if you cant even use the search function on this forum then dont expect people te be kind.
Marshmallow revived this phone. It's now a beast but I'm sure that it is capable of even more. Lollipop was laggy and slow and so I appreciate Marshmallow very much. The phone is now fast, responsive and it heats up much less than before. I can finally call myself a proud user of Z5c and I wouldn't have second thoughts before recommending it to someone

I don't think so... Updated my Z5C US version with MM , firmware version 32.1.A.1.163. No provision for fingerprint scanner still....
So I'm confused? Did the US version of MM activate the fingerprint scanner or not?
No, but flashing other versions like Nordic did.
I'm super confused. So the fingerprint sensor is present, but not activated? What is the difference in the US version and Intl version then since neither support VoLTE but intl supports B12 on Tmo?
That's disappointing. PWRFADE got me all excited.

IR Face Scanner in Custom ROMs

This isn't a huge problem but I found that in Custom ROMs, IR Face Unlock unlocks the device even with eyes closed. This does non happen in stock ROMs.
Is this already been known? Can it be fixed?

Different software algorithms works differently. Custom roms use google face unlock with ir camera while miui use proprietary xiaomi face unlock software. So to fix this we will have to port this which is not easy. You can try if you want to.

Question Daily driver custom ROMs?

Hi, I'm interested in picking up a BC62 but are any of the currently available ROMs stable enough for daily driving?
I'm still living in the last decade and prefer the fully custom experience, but I suppose just getting root and bootloader unlock may be sufficient nowadays...
Apologies if this question is an easy one or frequently asked, I couldn't find much.
as you see, there is no supported custom roms for this device. You can try GSI roms.
unfortunately price too high and community not enough for devs
Well technically there's one custom ROM...but idk if it's still gonna be supported...i may try to build some now that the guides are up tho
I see there are a few abandoned ones under development but there's little talk about living with them. Guess nobody really does, ha.
Circumstances are just pushing me to switch carriers (and therefore phones) and it's hard to part with the custom ROM life. At least Sony OEM software is decent and root/unlock is actually supported.
I look forward your future projects, @Ainz_Ooal_Gown !

And how it works?
i just tried GSI a12 rom and camera didn`t work, ambient display didn`t work, autobrightness didn`t work. Back to stock
I used the Lineage ROM that's here ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-11-unofficial-lineageos-18-1-for-xperia-1-iii.4431701 ) for a few months. Unfortunately it comes with an outdated VideoPro app that can't be updated due to missing libraries (Theoretically you can if you mod a newer APK, but I'm not very experienced in coding and wasn't able to make it work). Also this meant Sony-specific apps like 3D creator, etc... won't install or update without modding them.
The only other problem I noticed was 5G NSA didn't work, just LTE with carrier aggregation at best. This wasn't a big problem personally since 5G NSA isn't reaaaallly an improvement all else being equal.
There were a couple other bugs / differences. The assistant button wouldn't function even with the Xperia+ app, and using the camera button to open the camera app behaved differently in a way that I didn't like. Probably a couple smaller things I'm forgetting about that I just lived with without issue.
Not being able to update or install Sony-specific apps was the deal breaker eventually. If I knew how to mod APK's to install/update them, I'd still be on that ROM today. It was actually really good. My battery life was noticeably better (probably mostly due to lack of 5G), I had no stability issues, the ROM was light and fast and I got all the customization that comes with Lineage out of the box.
i get it why there arent custom roms. what i dont get why arent any debloated stock rom either. sony does not have bloatware ?

Because there's no value in doing this.
Just get a root uninstaller and yeet the bloat.
As someone who tried a lot of roms, just don't. They all have serious demerits that are just not worth it.
Honestly it's quite jarring coming from Xiaomi/Samsung where custom roms are extensive are necessary or a worthwhile alternative respectively. I hoped we wouldn't need the size of community for this phone as everything is supposedly open source (or provided), but experience tells us otherwise. The phone is just too expensive -> phone doesn't go to eastern (read: eastern-europe and SE asia) developers and development just never takes off.
