So from what I can tell, there are two versions of Lollipop available to try.
MDmower's unofficial CM12 builds and LiquidSmooth Lollipop
Can someone please describe the differences in features between the two?
Also, mdmower's page doesnt seem to indicate any known bugs but maybe I'm looking at the wrong place.
On the liquid smooth page, it mentions issues with the flashlight, usb file transfer, and camera. Are these issues that are carried over from the mdmower version?
I'm tempted to try. I can live with some bugs, but the camera is a pretty important feature for me.
Also, which Gapps do you recommend. I have some concern about Google Camera. On CM11, I find the regular camera app far more feature rich than when I tried installing Google Camera from the store. Both are slow but google camera never seemed to work very well for me. Most of the added features didnt work. I don't know about the CM12 stock camera though.

For Gapps I usually recommend PA Gapps just because I've never had an issue with it before. As far as the camera on LiquidSmooth, its related to the flashlight and I'm working on figuring out why its acting that way. USB file transfer works, it just ramps the CPU to max freq. and will kill your battery if left plugged in forever. I plan on dropping PacLP whenever Pacman ROMs decides to open their LP to the public, because I'm running that with no issues at all.
If I were you, I'd do a full backup in recovery and then flash both ROMs to see which one works best for you.
MDMowers CM12 ran well for me and was the first 5.x build available, the biggest thing is that you need to use his custom recovery and only his builds. But it does give you 4GB data rather than the stock 1GB. I didn't play with it much, I mainly use it to run Pandora on WIFI while I work on things I don't want my primary device to be close to.
Beeko's Liquidsmooth has run quite well also. I can't wait until his PacLP build is available.
But yeah as Beeko said backup and try them both. If they don't work for you right now you can get right back to where you are. :good:
Just so people know too, on 5.x.x you can choose where Android installs apps and stuff by going to Settings, then Storage, then click on Apps under the Total Space. You will now be in a new window, just hit the menu button up top and choose Preferred Install Location.
Does liquidsmooth need the custom recovery? Is the rom based on mdmowers?
One of the biggest issues I have on cm11 is running out of space on data for apps. Even moving to SD does not help because data and davlikcache still take up space. Mdmowers solution sounds great. I didn't quite understand with liquidsmooth, does that offer a solution as well?
As for gapps,my question was really regarding which package (micro, nano, etc). Specifically the ones that replaced stock apps. Especially the camera app.
In the end I think I'll either wait too see when the camera issue gets fixed with liquid Smith or just go with mdmower.
I still don't understand what liquidsmooth offers that mdmower does not. Or more simply, why was it created if mdmowers already existed.

No you don't need custom recovery for Liquid yet, haven't decided if I want to add it in yet. Maybe I'll take a poll. But Liquid offers much more for customization if you want to customize LP more than CM. Gapps doesn't matter, just depends on your preference.

What did you mean by "you can choose where Android installs apps and stuff"?
on CM11, I'm running out of space due for apps because of apps, app data (even for some sd apps), and davlik cache for all apps. Does this option that you refer to allow all this to be moved?

Yeah, I know on 5.x.x roms only.
I just know that I have space issues with apps, data, davlik cache with CM11 so I assume I'd have the same issues in CM12.
Mdmower's data swap thing sounds like a solution.
However if 5.x.x roms allow you to save an app (including data and davlik cache) elsewhere, then there's no need for the swap and that should solve the issue.
Is that correct?
The option in the menu says "Removable SD card"
but it does change it to the internal storage partition just like MDMowers partition swap.
@Beeko is this a liquid smooth change or is it in 5.0.x?

It's a change in 5.x.x every LP ROM should have it.
Must be how the partitions are laid out. On my Nexus 5 & 7 it doesn't give the option even with a USB drive attached but they of course don't have a SD slot. I'll have to check out the wife's Nook HD when I get home. :good:

I wonder if the app data, cache etc, also gets moved to the SD or if that still gets stored in /data like in CM11
By "removable SD card", does that mean the actual external SD card?
I wonder if there are any performance issues, or issues when you remove the card or mount it when connecting to a computer
It said Removable SD card but the App got installed on the 4GB internal partition. Haven't had time to look any further than that.
Looks like it doesn't really work right now Been testing apps and they're all downloading to the internal storage not the SD.

I guess I'll test MDMower's first. Then switch over to yours when I get a chance.
If you do decide to switch over to the modified recovery, that will making switching back and forth alot easier.
However, if CM12 ever becomes official, then I'm guessing the modified recovery wont be compatible with CM's auto-update notification (which I've found to be really nice)
Seemed to work for me they installed to the internal SD card.
Installed CSR Classics and Galaxy on fire 2.

Hi guys,
I'm unable to ask on dev thread, so main question goes here.
Now I'm using Nikita's CM 12.1 (10.08-build). Everything works fine, but as flashoholic I can't wait to install CM 13, but as I know it's quite buggy. Can someone confirm, which features on CM 13 actually work?
- Stable SIM Signal
- Automatic/Manual Network Search
- Roaming
- WiFi / BT
- Camera
- GPS
- Incall volume settings
- USB Mass storage (PC connection)
- TWRP backup/restore
- Xposed framework / Greenify
Thanks!
The CM 12.1 is more stable because the CM 13 is nightly and it is updated everyday. Maybe you should wait the stable release of CM 13.
Yes, I know I replied lately, but I use CM13 Nightlies now and I got just a very few bugs. SIM signal is stable. WiFi, Bluetooth, Camera, GPS, volume settings, USB mass storage (and every other USB connection mode too) work well like as TWRP backup/restore.
CM13 for me since it works well as a daily driver.
Everything in your list works for me except USB Mass storage (PC connection) which I haven't tried yet.
Batterywise, I'm getting around 4 hours SOT with greenify and amplify installed which is enough to last me a whole day.
+1 for cm13... I think that it is faster than cm12.1... It feels snappier, don't know ...
own experience , CM 13 works great only thing I see is the Xposed . Battery pays me enough. can install applications on the SD solving the problem of space.
i think this rom is not yet stable, like i cant copy files from internal to external, cant change wallpapers. etc.. thats why i went back to stock rom for the mean time..
I cant wait for this rom to be stable and i am going to flash it again immediately.. ^_^ Thanks
I don't know if others are facing the similar problem but it has turned my life into hell after the new update. I will list down the issues on ALL ROMS after the new OOS 3 update with bootloader in my device.
I had issue in accessing storage, which means gallery, file explorer or literally any app crashes when I try to access from the storage, be it internal or external sd card.
Couldn't use the latest snapchat at all, can't post in story, can't save any snap, can't upload from camera roll. It was just a dead end. However I could only post into story with a older Snapchat version, still due to storage access issue, I couldn't save or upload from Camera Roll
Facebook picture upload would ocassionally crash the app.
Couldn't take more than 1 picture in latest youcam app, storage issue would crash the app.
Gallery apps fail to generate thumbnail previews.
All these above problems caused permanent storage access unavailability until I rebooted device.
Need to charge my device twice as Battery runs faster than Usain Bolt.
So finally after a lot of tingling, I finally downgraded my device to OOS 2.1.3 with TWRP 2.8.7. Trust me it's very stable, bug free and battery friendly. Though I miss the new security patches features and snappy feel from Android 6 & 7.
The above problems are not happening in 2.1.3. I can use latest snapchat, youcam & facebook without any issue at all. Is there any way to prevent these issues on new Android OS in my device ? I believe it's not a device issue as 2.1.3 is running very stable and bug less.
Never had any of those issues on OOS 3 update. Think you might of gone wrong somewhere maybe.

I am really eager to find that out. I have almost tried every ROM on the new bootloader. Except MOOS 2.0 or something, each and every ROM had this bug, even official OOS 3.1.4. Any idea what might went wrong ? The bugs are not reproducing in OOS 2.1.3 though. Which makes me believe that my device is ok.

Think I figured it out for you. You are on really old OOS2 build you need to flash 2.2.3 before you update to OOS3. It was made for the update to MM.
Are you sure you gave the good permission. On MM, when you first launch an app, it should ask you for it. Maybe a bug appear at one point.
You should go to menu settings / app / 3 dots menu at the top right an reset app prefs.
Then re open app one by one.
You can try first without your SD inside to see if it happens again.

Thank you for your work!
So to continue from the other thread.
Seems large apps can't be moved, while small apps can.
I have 30gb free on the sdcard, but Final Fantasy 7 or 9 can't be moved there, giving the error "insufficient storage". However big files can be moved between location manually.
(Final Fantasy 7 doesn't run at all, and just instantly crashes when open. That game was always sensitive to where it was stored. It did work on your cm13, but not very well, its a bad port of the pc version I think
*Edit that, updated just got pushed by play store. What's changed state it doesn't work in 7.x Android).
Again, I am providing feedback as things happen. Not particularly asking for a solution, although maybe anything I come across can indicate issues to help with development.
Ooh another thing. In the expanded notification panel, pressing the pencil icon in order to rearrange the icon causes the phone to freeze for a minute or two, then brings up the lockscreen. Seems like SystemUI having issues but there is no error messages indicating that (but its that kind of behaviour from older Android versions that makes it seem like the case). It does not happen every time, but happens more than actually opening the rearrange page happens.

I got no problems (SD card not formatted as internal).
Although in some earlier builds when I formatted the SD card as internal storage I couldn't access internal memory from my PC.
So specify your problem a bit please?

Plug your phone to your PC. Then when it connects to the PC you'll have to open your status bar and see a notification saying "USB Charging this device". Click on it and you'll get a small menu with 4 options. Click on " Transfer files" (which is the second option) and then your phone will reconnect with your PC automatically and you'll be able to access the internal and SD card data from your PC.
And a feature has been added to Android ever since the 6.0 version where the users can configure the SD card to be able use it as Internal Storage. You can find that in the settings of your device?

This might be able to fix it. Go to developer options, scroll down to "select USB configuration" and change whatever setting you have to MTP. You might wanna switch modes a few times and then connect to PC with MTP active..
The bug has been active since cm13 in some cases and I personally never had the issue so I can't go into full depth of this.

Can you be a bit more specific? Try answering the following question so that I can be helpful.
Which build of MIUI9 did you flash?
Which recovery did you use?
Did you flash OpenGapps package on the top of it?
Is it a custom MIUI that you use?
Most probable cause of this would be flashing a bigger OpenGapps package (stock or above) after flashing MIUI. OpenGapps tries to replace the stock MIUI applications with same application signature and hence causes incompatibility with the MIUI ecosystem. Hence, you face force-closes. The other reason might be the use of an incompatible third-party theme that does not render the Settings app properly. Just possibilities.

Oh I see. Have you tried disabling any of the magisk module and check whether that improves the condition? Force close while going into storage might actually mean something. How about you go to applications settings in Settings app and clear data and cache of storage manager app? This might actually work, you know. Let me know about that.
Solved it thanks for help. Issue was being cause by Face ID for RN4 module which I forgot to mention. I disabled it and it just works.
