I recieved the OTA update for my i9300. I havent updated it yet because I am not certain if it will work flawlesly. I've been reading a lot of articles about the 4.3 update which have a lot of bugs but samsung promised to fix the issue yet I am not sure if it has been fixed for this update?

Well, I updated to 4.3 a few days ago and I did not encounter any major issues. In fact, there are only two issues that I have come across so far: there's a bit of lag when you unlock the phone (almost imperceptible). And I also encountered the "Samsung push service has stopped working" which I solved by uninstalling it from Google Play and then updated it. Everything else is working just fine.
Thanks Alex but regarding the lagg thou. It lags even if you're on full power not on power saving and also about the immense battery drain issue?
Sent from my GT-i9300 using xda-developers app
You should try another kernel like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517756
This works pretty good on my device! I had the same issues as you before.
Yes, it "lags" on full power (I never turn on that power saving option). The screen turns on after a second or so after I press the home button/power button, when you swipe over the screen it works smoothly. As about battery drain, I use it very frequently so I charge it every day anyway. But yes, it seems to drain the battery a little bit more than before. I can come up with a more detailed answer about this in a few days.

Hi, if you don not like to wait for the official OTA updates, you could try Omega ROM.
The developer-team is very quick to take the latest Samsung releases and turn them into their custom ROM (including many useful features).
If you stick to the latest Omega ROMs, you always will have the latest Samsung based ROM on your phone (including the latest Samsung bugfixes). On top of that, the support in the Omega community is excellent.

Well to be honest sir I really am not fan of custom rom. I always stay on stock rom but rooted. Custom rom has a lot of issues on the default app. Most common are wifi, bluetooth, gps and a lot more so I always stay on rooted stock. This is just my opinion no offense intended.

Maybe you need to read a bit more on the Android development forums and find out the difference between types of custom roms .
Been running custom roms for years and never had those sort of problems .
Plenty of info on the board regarding 4.3 OTA .

Well I always read and ask for other's opinion before doing something on my phone. I dont want to have any bad experience since that I spend most of my time with my beloved phone. Now when I read out bug reports on the custom firmwares that was offered those are the common issues it might be a case to case basis but I dont want to take chances.

There are a lot of awesome custom ROMs out there, like WanamLite and Neatrom. These guys stick to the stock as much as possible, I have never seen them port things from other devices. IMO, problems occur when you start porting apps and functions or launchers from other devices. However, the XXUGML2 or XXUGML4 updates from Samsung work flawlessly. I am running ML4 on my device with ML4 kernel and MK6 modem and it is awesome.
Yes ML4 is stable.

Hi, no offense taken. I just wanted to share my experience. OMEGA is close to the stock ROM and if there were any bugs, they mostly came from the Samsung stock ROM. The difference is the update frequency. While it takes ages to get an OTA for your specific region / provider, most custom ROM developers take the latest release published by Samsung regardless of region and provider. Meaning, you will always get the latest and greatest.
Hi guys I have'nt found much information on this forum regarding the intermittent lag/crashes on G2s that I'm experiencing (d802 version specifically) running kitkat aosp ROMs so I thought I might report my experience to see if I'm not alone here.
After I upgraded from CM 10.2 to CM11 my device would start lagging at random times during the day followed itevitably by a crash mostly after about 3 minutes of use (messaging, browsing, youtubing etc) where the screen would freeze and go black (and eventually come back.)
A reboot was always necessary which resolved the problem temporarily. These crashes happened between 1-3 times per day and were extremely frustrating.
The device in question is a d802 running CM11 and stock kernel.
They happened after fresh installs, even with only system apps. I tried flashing a custom kernel, playing with different settings and switching to other kitkat ROMs with little to no change.
I finally bit the bullet and switched back to CM10.2 stable and all is well with my phone now. I couldn't make the phone lag if I tried, its back to its beasty glory.
This device clearly must have an issue with Aosp ROMs on kitkat (or maybe I just picked a bad one) and its a real shame. If anyone has the same problem please share your experiences and maybe we can get to the bottom of this thing

yep stock is better than cm11 or any aosp roms. aeonflex was a really good rom so was cloudy flex. they are flex based
CM11 has always been buggy for me. Try running a different 4.4 ROM,
Nameless is running perfectly for me

I'm using omni. Without any issues at all. No freezes or anything like that.
Tried PA and CM11, both really buggy, just like the op described. Flashed cm10.2 but it just doesnt work with my fitbit so now ive gone back to stock. While stock is good, it just feels so sow compared to asop based roms.
If you want a AOSP rom really hard, try "Mahdi" rom.. i tried it for a day and it fits perfectly for me
But now i'm on stock rom (CloudyStock) because... it's awesome and i like the LG UI
Using Mahdi combined with the furnace kernel, no slowdowns and very rarely do I get random reboots. Highly suggested :good:
I have these freezes several times a day too. I noticed one time that my systemui stopped working with it
my guess: maybe it has something to do with the systemui?
CM11 ran great for me on my D801, but I just couldn't deal with the in call echo issue.

blame closed source drivers. the devs making these customs pull hattricks so you can have a custom rom. All without documentation and such, thats why they can be buggy.

Is it worth it to upgrade just because of this speed factor?

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I'm currently using the latest carbon ROM nightly and its running like clockwork. Will update if anything changes though.
But its definitely worth experimenting with other ROMs.

yes am using the stock kernel, didnt mess with anything at all
Good to know. I haven't experienced any of the random reboots yet, but I am not a heavy-user beyond a few utility apps, text, email, and calling.
I do know that there seem to be a considerable number of apps that work fine on 4.4 that exhibit undesirable behavior on 5.0. It isn't obvious whether the issues are app compatibility, or that our device tree isn't yet up to par, or that android 5 isn't yet up to par (or even all of the above).

My phone burns and reboot when I try to open some apps.
I need some help for this, I'm using OmniRom 5.0.2 lollipop unofficial and when I use the music player of the rom, my phone gets so hot and battery drains to fast, also reboot when try to use other apps from the play store like, youtube, etc... everything else works fine. I want to know if you are going to fix the other bugs like the outgoing calls, etc..??
BTW, thank you so much for your effort on this rom, i really like OmniRom and I hope you can make it better and keep GS2 alive
I have found that there are specific apps that cause the device to immediately reboot. I believe this to be mainly a result of the current memory issues regarding this device and Lollipop.
I haven't experienced any heating issues beyond the initial firmware settling (scanning the device) .
I hope to be able to find a solution to all bugs, but I cannot promise that it will happen.

Just seeing this, sorry. I'll pull it now, this call bug log?
Edit: I see that it is, hard to scan it well on my phone, I'll look once I'm at my computer. I updated audio stuff before my last build but no luck. I think using a prebuilt hwcomposer from kk would solve many many issues with video etc. That's what we did for n2 and we don't have official cm12 either. I need to pull a kk zip to get the hwcomposer and see how that works. Also I may need to build an i777 almost stock kernel with my n2 source because only my kernel on n2 will allow working everything hardware. My i777 kernel is based on cm but my n2 is Samsung kernel source 3.0.31 that has been routinely merged with aosp. Quick glance looks like audio isn't routing properly but I could be wrong. It's such a strange bug since it works just fine after flipping on and off. Again sorry for the delay, I seriously only get about 15% of the notifications I should
Yeah, this is the call log, and without something flagrantly crashing (and leaving a better calling card) I have nothing specific to look into.
No worries about the notification, I've been working on slim with warrior1208. ... Although until slim is back online, that project is almost stalled.
We'll have a proper daily driver if we can get this. I can't help but wonder if some of the "under the hood fixes" of 5.1 may help. Prolly just wishful thinking.

385 for ten minutes brought me success. For two different devices.
I noticed that 5.1 seemed to temporarily push asimovi's progress backward a bit, which is a part of why I haven't published a 5.1 Omni. I lost internal storage again, and haven't found the culprit. I keep forgetting to look into system_vold.
5.0 should have been a test release.

You can never get full functionality of LG Stock ROM on any custom ROMs.
Even though I have not flashed LOS, I can tell you few things that may not work.
1. Wide Camera
2. IR Blaster
3. Most Probably any friends modules if you own them.
I'm interested in knowing too before I try it. As long it's stable with all cameras working, I'd be fine.

Well, I've been on los for a while now..
-As far as I know NFC is not working (on not using it so no idea, but it seems to drain the battery an not work properly)
-BT works for eg headphones but not for headsets
Charging is still an issue. It is faster now but still not even close to fast charging. An on a 3rd party charter or is ridiculously slow
-the wide angle camera is working but you have to toggle between the cameras to get to it. The auto focus might be a problem, but it is mostly solved I think.
-playing music is sometimes a drag, and can be laggy
-FM radio is non existing, not supported, will probably never be...
Other issues have been solved, other pop up, but since there are weekly updates, that's what it is.
-be careful, root has to be installed separately and if you don't do so, immediately after installing the ROM, you will most likely end up in the famous Twrp bootloop..
Before installing it I'd read at least the last 20 pages in the forum, these should give you an idea... Or go to the fulmics ROM. It is stock based so everything should be working. To my knowledge all the LOS based ROMs share the same issues.
So im looking into getting a custom rom installed on my ZF9 now that they have finally begun development, but im really unsure of which i should uses. Omnirom seems to be the one with most interactions, Blissrom seems like a nice rom but its fairly new and bugs are probably everywhere. Topaz seems like a little in between, a fair amount of interaction but still under omnirom.
Im not after the one with most features, just best battery life and stability.
Which one of them would you recommend? Currenty running magisk with stock .113 FW with Kirisakura kernel.

Cause Ive gone through all of the roms topics on here. Omniroms comments arent as bug focused as like Paranoids, more like how to install it. Blissrom is fairly new and got like no comments at all. And i know, Roms can be bug free, but these Roms have been out for like a month or two now, so can they really be bug free after 2 months development?
I just wanted the opinions of someone thats used one of them.
I no longer have the ZF9, but when I did I tried OmniROM and AOSPA Topaz Beta. I preferred the smoothness of Topaz over OmniROM by far. However, that was many months ago and OmniROM may have been improved since then.
The battery on Topaz was also slightly improved over stock, if that matters to you!

Battery performance matters a lot to me, might try Topaz first, and then maybe omnirom.
The only issue i have so far is that bluetooth EATS the battery. Checking the battery usage graph doesnt show anything out of the ordinary, bluetooth uses like 2% after 3h etc.
However i always have like 15% left after a whole day (8h) with bluetooth on, and thats with 10h since last fully charged along side 2-3h of SoT. Without bluetooth i can EASILY get over a day on standby with 6h+ of SoT.
Im hoping the issue im having is software related since other people have reported it too.
@DankDeuxez, have you tried both of them? What is your opinion?

UPDATE: Ok, so i tried almost all of the available roms yesterday, but it seems like none of them worked on my phone. Topaz wouldnt even install. Got the recovery installed perfectly fine, but whenever i tried to install the rom, it just wouldnt work, stating it was missing certain files etc.
Omnirom also wouldnt work. I managed to install TWRP after a few tries with random things going wrong such as not being able to show up on the computer, random decryption etc. BUT even if i got TWRP to work in the end, Omnirom would still just fail upon installation and trying to boot the phone just froze on the ASUS logo.
But since i got TWRP to work as intended i just installed the stock rom in the end. Everything is back to normal and im not sure when or even IF im going to try a custom rom again.
