This summer, during my internship, I've been working on a small project called Tenebris. In short, Tenebris is a way to bring your favourite FPS game modes into the real world, powered by your smartphone.
The concept is in planning/development stage. There is a full readme available at https://www.github.com/xbhatnag/tenebris which describes the game in more detail.
What I'm looking for is people to try and give their opinions on Tenebris. Suggestions, questions, advice, criticism is all helpful! I want to know the viability of the idea, possible issues and features that would be cool to add to it. Don't hold back. Tell me everything.

Can anyone develop Castlevania lord of shadows windows mobile,game demo inside WVGA

Ok I now most of you have heard of the game Casltevania lords of shadows before. I dont have the tools to make a 3D version for my phone , my tools are only 2D .
I have 2 photos of the Castlvania lords of shadows running on touchpro2 , and the touchpro2 can handle the graphics and sound.
Now I what I have done was make a simple version , just to make sure the phone can handle the graphics. In my version you can move left and right avoiding enemies , and slashing them with your whip. Its WVGA demo only ,tested on touchpro2. You try to get a highscore.

I am hoping a developer who has knowlegde of 3D can make 1 or 2 levels on the game so I can play on the go. Thanks to whoever can help us!!!

Can any developer with knowlegde of 3D help us. The best I can do will not come out as good as if a 3D developer did it. I would love to see this game on my phone.

I know you like to make small games but as you noticed the comminty as pretty much reached a stale state... If you want something done most time you have to DIY.
I don't see the point of a 3d Castlevania (all the good ones are 2d). Also do you have any idea how much work would be behind this (everything would have to be done from scratch: game engine, 3d models...). You must also consider that WM is dead and the game wouldn't run in WP 7. I don't see any luck getting help for such a task.
Anyway if you do decide to continue making games do notice that the tools you use are very limited (at best they are enough for small puzzle games... or Game&Watch like mini-games)... Making games that don't dynamically scale is a bad idea. Most devices are bellow WVGA resolution... And please do develop them past the point of demo (most of your work feels like PoC... they lack the quality of a finished product... a single complete quality game beats a tons of demos).
And don't rip stuff from copyright games (name, sprites musics, whatever... you lucked out so far). There are many Open Source games that deserved being ported (again the tools you use aren't enough for the job) there's no need to make incomplete clones of commercial games.
I know I wrote this with my gloves of but you've got to agree I have several valid points (hope you take it constructively).
That being said the only reason I see that this thread hasn't been closed yet is because you released a cab (request belong in QnA... which nobody reads, I know). And don't triple post man...
games
1) I was excited by playing castlevania lords of shadows . I wanted something for my phone.
2) As for doing it myself , if I could I would have not requested it.
3) I cant make more complex games like castlevania because of lack of multi-touch , maybe someone else has it figured it out.
4) The tool I used doesnt support auto-scale , so I have to make the game separately for each resolution.
5) I released demos so someone who doesnt have money to buy games , can have a choice of simple fun games. If you want commercial quaility games then there are many for you to buy. Its ridiculous to expect someone to sit there and make commercial games for free.
6) As far as copywrites anyone can make a game using commercial charactors , as long as its free. I am no where near the 1st one to do this. All over the internet there are different versions of marios and sonics.
7) Finally I started making games for myself after getting screwed buying $7.99 games and they ended being up trash with good graphics or just not worth the price. Play any gameloft game and you will see what I mean.

Will be doing review for Clove - what questions are you looking to be answered?

I'm going to be writing a review when the SGSII comes out for the Clove blog, interested to know what questions everyone has for the review, and what they want to see demoed on video.
Let me know and I'll try to get through everyones questions in the review.
Will be a slightly different slant on the review than places like Engadget, in that I'll actually be using the phone as my fulltime handset, so if things like the GPS are amiss I should be far less likely to miss it than those reviews (real user feedback as it were).
Great news! Here are a couple of things I'd like to know:
1) Battery. How much does it last under different circumstances? So, WiFi on/off, NFC on/off, display brightness and so on. I know that making all possible combinations between all these options is impossible, however at least something indicative of how long the battery lasts in day-to-day use would be nice.
2) Heat. Does it really get so hot?
3) Graphics performance. Can you play Tegra 2 games on it? How well do they play and what are the graphics abilities of the device (so far we saw sub-par graphics benchmarks which were most likely due to the drivers so it'd be interesting to see whether anything has been done with that)?

Thanks for your questions, gaming and battery life will definitely be covered (I'm also interested to know whether the Tegra Zone games will run on it, that said for all I know the first ones to ship could be Tegra based anyways), good question about how much the device heats up.
I'm mostly interested in general performance, such as browsing speed, flash speed, installing apps, (especially multiple updates on the market) any lag anywhere etc.
Also talk about the screen, would be nice to see it compared in depth with a SGS.
Also any chance you could install a 3rd party launcher and compare overall speed/lag/features etc with TouchWiz?

Will cover that indepth. Will be doing a screen comparison with first and second gen AMOLED screens (HTC Desire, SGS1), and also iPhone 4.
I'm a LauncherPro user, so will also be using that in the review and comparing to TW.

This is going to be my new phone, I'm purchasing it from them, rather than being supplied it for review, so this won't be a review written after a days use like you'll see at lots of places. It will be my day to day phone, and I'll release the review in installments as I feel able to get a solid feel for the aspects I'm reporting on. The last part will probably be a couple of weeks down the line from release, and that will be the one that will be able to give much better feedback on things like battery life, performance under higher loads etc. If you guys have particular suggestions for some good stress tests for performance let me know.
Camera performance would be nice. eg. details, contrast, noise levels, features, how long it takes to process a picture, artifacts.
Camcorder also. Say look out for stuttering in videos, reproduction of frames.
As stated above, a thorough test of the phone's performance for lag or any inconveniences in performance.
Sound/Speaker quality and its volume levels.
UI/UX interface. Eg. is it polished like HTC sense, or as functional
I guess check for if all its features are working. Eg. wifi, GPS, NFC, MHL
A review of the battery life would be nice, however i think I already know the answer to that, since it only has 1650mAh/1500mAh
That's all i can think of for now.

Also I noticed in the blog how clove wants users to discuss the price of the Galaxy S II. Just wondering, and understandable if you do not wish to answer, but, is the reason you wish to discuss is to also discuss with samsung the huge price for the galaxy s II so as to negotiate a price drop? Or is it simply for some healthy discussion?
The review will be my first piece for the blog, so I have no inside information on the discussion of the price that is currently running, and the motivation behind it.
Currently testing out RMAA software on my PC, but looks like I should be able to give good objective feedback about sound quality.
did you volunteer to review it? how come they chosen you? why will you do it?
Which 3G bands does it in fact have? Clove lists only 900/2100. Other sites list quad-band 3G. It's possible there's a Euro and International variant...
How many SGS2 forums do you post to? Is that a valid question?
I want lots of 1080p video test runs. Try flinging it into the air with the red button flashing. Doubles as a drop test.

[Q] Long term, character-building games?

I'm curious if anybody knows of games that include long-term character-building aspects---by that, I mean games that are not really mission-based, and that keep track of how many days you've played. You might want to develop a character or manage some sort of enterprise, etc.
I'm being a bit vague, but one example of such a game is Furdiburb, which has you raising a sort of virtual pet. Are there other good games in this vein?
Haven't heard of the game you mentioned, but there is MMO-alikes such as The World of Magic, if you like that sort of thing?
It's supposed to be pretty good (know someone who loves it) but quite heavy on grinding.
You can try THE INFINITE BLACK its an online multiplayer RPG we have to gain experience and level up sort of....do give it a try!

It's an old thread, but I'd highly recommend Torn. It's a crime MMORPG that people play for a decade, it seems. It has factions and a great deal of choice.

We have been keeping a little secret.. the kind that is so much fun to share when the time comes.
Today we announce XBMC for Android. Not a remote, not a thin client; the real deal. No root or jailbreak required. XBMC can be launched as an application on your set-top-box, tablet, phone, or wherever else Android may be found.
The feature-set on Android is the same that you have come to expect from XBMC, no different from its cousin on the desktop. Running your favorite media-center software on small, cheap, embedded hardware is about to become a hassle-free reality. And as Android-based set-top-boxes are becoming more and more ubiquitous, it couldn’t be a better time. In fact, primary development was done on a Pivos XIOS DS set-top-box. And that is no coincidence, you will notice that Pivos is now listed as an official sponsor (more on that later). XBMC is stable and works great there, as well as on various tablets and phones. Though with Android, as many of you probably know, that is only the beginning of the story.
Enjoy the stereotypical dev-shot low-quality demo video. More video, including phone/tablet usage in the next post.
So what’s the catch? None… in time. Currently, for most devices only software decode of audio and video is hooked up. We considered waiting until universal hardware decode was ready before making our announcement, but in the end decided that in the spirit of keeping things open and working with our ever-expanding community, it made sense to open up sooner rather than later. We are confident that an OpenMax-based player (similar to the one used for the Raspberry Pi) will spring up very quickly. That said, software playback of most media plays quite well already.
Though, there is one exception. As Pivos sponsored a large portion of the port, we were able to work with their vendors to achieve buttery-smooth hardware-accelerated playback on the XIOS DS. It remains to be seen if such hardware-specific features will make it into XBMC mainline or exist as patches for vendors to integrate.
While, as you can see in the video, the port is fully usable and lots of fun to play with, it’s not quite ready for prime-time. We will begin releasing apks for interested beta testers in the coming weeks. But for those who are up to the task, as you would expect from XBMC, the source code is available. We have decided not to push to Google Play until we are satisfied that users with all kinds of devices get the same great XBMC experience. We ask that our users stay on the lookout for evil-doers trying to cash in on XBMC’s popularity. If you see anyone masquerading as XBMC, please be sure to let us and Google know about it.
There is also the issue of having a proper UI for small-screen devices. Typically, XBMC skins have been designed for use on a TV, so use on a small phone can be clunky. But there is nothing keeping skinners from creating more functional touch-oriented skins, like the included “Touched” skin from Jezz_X. With the community’s help, we’re sure to have a more refined version available for inclusion by the time we release a stable version.
There are still many details left to iron out, mainly related to the wide variety of Android devices in the wild. We have not yet decided what minimum requirements will be set, due simply to the lack of extensive testing on exotic devices.
As for taking advantage of Android itself, we haven’t even scratched the surface. There are so many interesting features that we could take advantage of: launching apps, location awareness, speech recognition, on and on. Once the core port is finished up, you can bet we’ll be exploring many new avenues.
I could write for days about how the port started, how it was accomplished technically, what tricks were used, etc, but I will save that for a (somewhat more personal) follow-up post. There is much to say about the process that would likely bore most readers, but I will try to answer the questions that come up in the comments as much as possible in that post. The port was a big effort with many contributors, many thanks to Davilla, Memphiz, Phaeodaria, Montellese, Topfs2, and everyone else who was involved.

I have installed it on my Transformer but unfortunately I've tried to start it, it just closed
But I also installed it on my HOX and its running fine

nice touch optimized skin included so its much easier to operate than with the standart Confluence skin
So as you can see from settings info that 2 or more core devices are not supported fully in this unoficial release. for now all load goes on 1core

you should go to Settings/Apperance and change your Skin to Touched much easier to operate.But nice video cheers

I've heard that the tegra 2 devices will have to wait for the official release. Allthough i doubt it very much.
I have the same issue. It won't start.
Hopefully we can get XBMC working on the TF101 before the Official release.

Would like some feedback for a potential hobby game I'm developing

I'm working on a small hobby project. I'm making something like an Arkanoid (brick breaker) style clone game. It's one of my favorite classic arcade games. I know there are tons of them out there but I want to make one anyway for the fun of it. That's where wanted some kind of feedback though.
What kinds of things would seem appealing or fun twists to add to a game like this? What would you want to see in it?
If I complete the game I'll be releasing free on here and the Android market. It won't be ad driven either. I'm not looking to make any money from this project. It's a fun hobby project for me. I just want to see what others would think would be fun to add to the game.
