Good morning everyone. This morning was not a good morning for me, as I was feeding and watering my dog my phone slipped out of my jacket pocket and dropped into the dogs water bowl. It was in the water for less than a second, initially everything seemed fine there was barely any water behind the battery cover so I dried all that out and shook the phone to make sure there was no water in it's ports. Then shortly after that its USB port started going wonky(started acting like I was connecting USB cable and disconnecting it over and over), and my touch buttons at bottom of screen seem to stop working which makes doing anything damn near impossible. The USB plug seems to work as I've got it plugged up and its charging fine, but now my PC says USB unrecognized device. What I want to know is will these things work themselves out, is there something I can do to help them, or am I screwed?
Thanks for helping.

It is more then likely ruined. When ever a phone gets wet you should immediately remove the battery and put the phone In A large bag of rice for 3 days. No less then 72 hours and you have a very good shot at being OK. For phones that have been completely submerged and are water logged I would do 3 days of rice and then a quick dip In rubbing alcohol and then another day of rice. The alcohol prevents corrosion on the electrical solder connections. I hope you have insurance. You can try the rice now but since you supplied voltage to a wet circuit the damage is done. O and when I say a quick dip in alcohol I mean remove the screen and only dip the circuit board.

Thanks for the reply, but I think I got lucky. My USB port has stopped acting up and I was actually able to see contents of my phone thru the pc. Also my buttons are working fine again maybe there was a slight bit of water crossing circuits and it finally dried up.
The best way to dry it up, if it ever happens again is to use uncooked rice. Put the phone (with the cover open and the everything pull out) in the container with the rice covering it. Depending on how wet it got, it might take a few days ( 2 - 4) for it to completely dried up.

Arent you also supposed to put it in the sun, so it heats up and evaporates the water from inside the phone and then the rice absorbs it... or is that old news and overkill?

The sun only dry the outside part of the device. There will be moisure inside device (sometime) that will stay for a while. In order to get rid of the moisure from the inside of the device (if it is excessive water got in) is to use the rice.
In this case it might be excessive and overkill (since the device still works). But then I have mentioned that if next time. Sorry that I didn't indicated that if the device won't come on after sun drying, then use this method...

I think you misunderstood him... he's not saying put the phone in the sun, he's saying put the bowl of rice with the phone in it in the sun. That supplies heat which facilitates the process of water evaporating. I wouldn't leave it in direct sunlight though, just in a warm place near a window maybe.
mine dropped in toilet
2 days in rice with small bag of desiccant inside of phone(take battery out)
desiccant will dry out faster
I'd use some Lysol after that one

When mine fell in a cup of water, I put it in a bowl of rice, and then put the bowl over a scentsy warmer. The small light bulb in the warmer gently heated the bowl, without getting it too hot.

I just had my phone "waterproofed" by a company last week, just in case. A friend of mine demonstrated the effectiveness on his iphone 4 and I instantly wanted to have it too as I use my phone as a GPS unit on my motorcycle. I live only a few minutes away and walked in to have it done. I can't attest to their shipping: http://www.liquipel.com/

A few phones ago I tried the rice rescue method, but after a couple of days the rice caked up around the device and was a bother to try to chip away. Later, someone pointed out that I should not have cooked the rice.
I dropped plenty of phones in different liquids.
Nokia in a cup.of crown

I'm having a little issue with my gear s not charging fully. I went swimming with it the other day and it got a little wet. I dried it up and everything is back to working as it should but now the only thing that seems to be wrong is the battery won't fully charge. Does anyone know how I might go about fixing the charging issue?

I think, Gear S is just water resistant, not waterproof . U dont need to afraid water if u go to wash hands or rain outside durring the summer, but is not designed for swimming and other heavy water stuff.
Also of course, make sure your sim slot has still got the waterproof band on it and that's its shut well because water in there could be trouble
So, I was out yesterday with my backpack, me and my friends were playing basketball and my phone was in said backpack. It started raining, I thought the backpack was under an overhang, but it turned out I was wrong and it was wet. I haven't seen any wetness on the phone itself and everything works perfectly fine, but should I be worried that there may be water inside?
Thank you.
If it works it works, if you wanna be sure, leave it overnight in a bowl of rice.

Yeah, the phone itself is working perfectly fine - the buttons, ports, touch screen, fingerprint scanner, etc. There is no visible damage. I'm only scared that there may be water inside it and if I need to take it for repairing, they may not accept it. Will rice remove any potential water inside the phone?

If the phone was turned on while it got wet and it works, you should not need to be worried.
Yes, rice is the most basic way to get rid of moisture inside a phone. Turn it off and set it overnight in a jar filled with rice.
I recently started running my humidifier again at night, and when I wake up and plug in my phone, I get this pop-up. It makes a noise even if the phone is set to silent mode, and it won't let me do anything until I unplug it. I guess the sensor must be pretty sensitive, because it's not that steamed up in the room. Has this feature been here all this time, or did it come more recently with an update?

Mine was doing that today to. Try blowing into the chargeing port and as well as taping the phone against your hand. I did that and didn't completely work so then I tried turning the phone off to charge and it it's worked fine since then

Same here as far as turning the phone off, I just turned it off and plugged it in, then when it rebooted it didn't give me that pop up anymore. Thanks.
If nothing works you need to take it to your carriers store and they will replace your charging port on your phone. Happened to me 2 months ago and took it in and they said that's not unusual for that to happen so they replaced my port and no issues at all now.
I am sorry to say it but it is most likely charging port problem.
Not in every case of course but it happens.
My Galaxy S8 Plus died because of faulty port.
Be careful.
In all fairness to the phone, I was running my humidifier all night long, and while it wasn't real steamy or anything, it was more so than normal.
If Still Needed..

My s9 pops up the "moisture detected" message at random. Never dropped it in liquid, dont know if changing the charging flex would do the trick?

Yeah the moisture detection on this device seems to be overly sensitive or a bit off-kilter. For me it happens with the OEM cable and also a completely different cable from a Chromebook.

Same here! It's getting worse too because I can't establish a connection to Odin and update my phone. Freaking T-Mobile never releases the U1 updates like other carriers do ?
I just started wondering if a factory reset would help, make it forget that it ever detected moisture ?

I do believe it is a little over sensitive, but I would say try cleaning your charging port.
I was getting that message off and on for months and someone said to check the port. I shined a light in and it looked fine so I didn't bother. After a few weeks it got worse so I stuck a pin in there and pulled out an unbelievable amount of compacted pocket lint...
I'm guessing pushing a little bit in adds up over time and either the sensor was being tripped by the lint or the lint was trapping moisture.
Good luck.

STANIMAL: I had the moisture detected message and there was no moisture. After many different attempts to dry it with no success I ended up looking in the charging port and noticed a ton of dust, dirt, and gunk build up. So I took a toothpick and carefully scrapped all the gunk out while holding the phone up so that the gunk would fall out. I also used a blow dryer on cold to blow any excess out and when I turned my screen back on it was no longer giving the error. You must be careful not to break pieces of the phone inside the port and also avoiding toothpick chunks becoming lodged in there. But this truly does work.

Sewing needle works the best. I've been telling people this for 3 plus years now. Type c ports are prone to dirt sweat and then being packed in everyday

STANIMAL: Right a sewing needle would work, however, i went with a toothpick because it is made of wood and therefore much less likely if not nearly impossible to damage any plastic or metal inside the charging port area. Needles are strong metals and very sharp, can damage other metals and plastics.
Hi all,
Unfortunately, I've dropped my phone into the water and it sat there for 20 minutes or so. After that, I have disassembled it and left it in a container full of rice for 2 days.
Now, every time I try to do one of these:
1)Turn it on
2) Charge
3) plug it to my laptop
It shows the pocophone logo, then the empty battery logo for less than a second and the loop starts it all over again.
Please, any ideas on what can I try to do mitigate the problem? Thanks.

yr emmc died then replace motherboard.
battery and screen and back and possibly camera (if new motherboard does not include it) can probably keep.
Rice is useless. More than likely it's junk now.
You need to disassemble it and get out all the water. Water plus power equals corrosion.
Any corrosion can cause immediate failures or delayed ones even months, years latter. Connector contacts and power buses/components are particularly susceptible as well as some surface mount devices.
>Pull battery immediately!!!<
Disassemble as much as you are able to and pull all ribbon cable and other connectors.
Use anhydrous isopropyl alcohol* liberally if fresh water or RO water than isopropyl for salt water**.
Make sure the (water) alcohol gets into all switches and ribbon connector contacts.
Junk it but then get the alcohol off it fast.
Use compressed air to blow out the isopropyl alcohol as much as possible. It will take a few minutes, be careful with the air pressure.
Place in a warm dry place with fan on it until all water is gone.
I salvaged my Buds case like this after it fell to the bottom of my coffee (yes it had lots of sugar in it) cup. Couldn't disconnect the battery so I just pull the top inside cover off, flooding with water first then isopropyl alcohol. Had no compressed air so I used a blower bulb then let it sit in the sun on the dashboard. Total time from dunk to sun bake was about 3 minutes.
_Time is of the essence_ especially if the battery is in it. You have minutes (maybe) not hours.
A year later (surprisingly) the case still charges and functions normally.
*Do not use isopropyl alcohol on older LCD displays as it will poison them; they are open on the sides.
It should be 99% isopropyl alcohol not 70%!
Anhydrous isopropyl alcohol attracts moisture from the air so low humidity is best. ESD damage is possible but the water is a bigger threat.
It's also flammable but not extremely just don't get stupid about it.
**salt water has near a 100% mortality rate no matter what you do.
Coffee with sugar... there's a chance

I would at least take the cover off, unplug the battery and leave in a warm dry place with a fan on it for at least a few days.
If any water is still present it will likely fail.
Turns out, as soon as the new battery drained the problem were back, exactly the same as before, it seems the phone has lost its capacity of charging the battery. Everything was working fine while the battery was charged, screen, speakers, phone calls. I will take the phone to a professional next week, let's see if they can figure it out. If you guys have any suggestions on what could be done I would appreciate as well.

Hi guys, let me just let register how was the closure for the case.
I have taken the phone to a technician, the phone was disassembled and had its parts washed with isopropyl alcohol. The procedure bring it back to life, it been more than a week so far it has been working fine.
