So I've just got a new S9+ (previously had a S7 edge) and it works great apart from one annoying "bug" (which may not be the phones fault)
The fingerprint reader isn't working with 3rd party apps (banking app, PayPal etc)
It DOES work fine (and fast) to unlock the phone so I know the sensor isn't faulty but when I try to log in to the PayPal app with my fingerprint it just instantly switches to password log in - no error message... My banking app (Natwest - a UK bank) does give an error message "Sorry fingerprint login has failed due to a system error" and I then have to use a passcode to login.
It's not the end of the world but annoying as the S7 work flawlessly with fingerprint login
Things I've tried:
1. Checked for updates (all up to date)
2. Turned off smart gestures
3. Removed my fingerprints and re-added them.
4. Done a diagnostic of the sensor - shows working fine
SO... maybe it's the apps that are at fault? Does anyone know if the API's have changed on the S9 and S9+ for security that would mean the apps won't authenticate until they are updated? Or is anyone else using PayPal with the fingerprint login and it works ok?
Yes PayPal working fine with fingerprint.
Maybe you have disabled something that is needed for it to work or not allowed some permissions for the PayPal app
Thanks for the reply - I can't think of anything I have disabled and the apps asked if I wanted to use fingerprint login and I accepted - no permissions settings I can find for them regarding fingerprints?
I'll try and take this up with Samsung support and if I get a solution I'll post back
Thanks again...
Solution for fingerprint not working with banking apps
Did you find a solution this issue?

I also have this problem. However, it worked fine for me for a while and stopped working in the last couple of weeks. I even uninstalled magisk and unrooted but still no luck. (it worked fine even with magisk). I also tried the steps you mentioned but still no luck.
Did you find any solution to the problem?
For my note 9 it worked
Hi all,
I had the same problem on my Samsung Note 9.
- Banking app
- PayPal
A simple trick sorted out the problem for me so you might want to try it.
Login to the app and then disable fingerprint loging. Log out and then log back in with password/PIN. Then enabling the fingerprint login and then logout again.
Wolah! Logging in with fingerprint should work now.
For me it was the sensor's paint peeling off. Maybe the paint generally causes problems. Clear the paint carefully with 400+ grit sandpaper and leave the sensor black.
Hi All,
Is anyone else having issues while trying to authenticate apps (or open apps) using fingerprint on the device? (Say Google Pay, I cannot log in to the app with fingerprint, phone asks for Pattern/Password).
If this is not an issue, please let me know how to enable it. I checked in settings, looks good.
Please note that I am able to unlock the device using FP
Help is appreciated!

I don't think there any option to enable it. It's system wide support that's missing from xiaomi on POCO. it was there on Mi A2 (obviously, being Android one).SO i think we need to bring this one to POCO Team's attention. Send Bug report for same & Tag them on twitter if you are there.

Yup, I dont think it works on miui. I am not able to authenticate any of my banking apps via fingerprint.
I guess its depends upon the app developer. There is no fingerprint authentication for Google Pay/ Tez but I can enjoy this feature with ICICI banking app.

I checked. I can use it on my bank accounts, app lock, and third party app loks as well.
The thing with Tez it that it relies on Android's native screenlo k or Google Pin, now the app is probably not able to leverage the screen lock fully (the Fingerprint), which should be brought to Xiaomi's notice. I'll be writing this on the Xiaomi Forum now.

I can't get it to work with the same app. It just says fingerprint authentication failed multiple times before I even place my finger and then it forces me back to using my pin.
Not sure with Google Pay/Tez since we don't have that in my country, but my banking apps work fine with fingerprint. Even PayPal works. I suggest updating the FIDO and IFAA certificates. If it doesn't then best bet is to truly contact Xiaomi or post in forums (though contacting them directly may be best to get any answers straight from the horses mouth)
It worked fine for me but since the last update (10.1.3) it has become unreliable - 50/50 chance of it working. Unlock device works 100% of the time. Tried recreating all the fingerprints and same issue.
I've the same problem.
All apps i decided to secure with fingerprint, can't be unlocked with fingerprint.
Only the option of PIN is available, but don't work either.
It's the same problem as drawkcaB has told...
Did everyone solve the problem?

I had the problem, before the 10.x update all apps were working and after I had an error. I solved it by reinstalling the concerned apps

Thanks for your quick reply!
The problem is that it mostly affects the pre-installed apps from xiaomi.
Unfortunately, you can not uninstall these.
Presumably a reset to factory settings will be unavoidable?

For me it was only 3rd party apps, bus you can try wiping the app data/cache individually to see if it works?

Thanks for the approach. Unfortunately, this did not work. I will reset the system to factory settings.
Fingerprint icon is not showing on lockscreen
I have seen fingerprint icon on lockscreen of stock android and OxygenOS. Also in Gpay if enable unlock using lockscreen fingerprint icon is showing on Gpay authentication window of both the phone. Since fingerprint icon is missing in lockscreen of poco make it depreciated to gpay authentication using fingerprint.
Yes, I am also facing same problem. Could you resolve it?
I have several apps that can authenticate with fingerprint. But what I'm having happen is that when I launch the app, the fingerprint screen pops up and immediately it goes away and to the app screen. Depending on the app it either just requires a password or has a message if "You have used all password attempts".
Anyone else seeing this, and have a solution?
The problem is likely in the apps.
I use 3 bank apps that require fingerprint authentication for confirming every operation and they are working flawlessly.

I have one app which sometimes does not prompt the emui black overlay screen for fingerprint.
Going to 'recent apps' and choosing said app again, show finally the fingerprint screen overlay.
I choosed to disable fingerprints checks for this app.
They all work great on my Note 9. Do, I don't think it's specifically the apps unless it's a compatibility issue between then and Huawei phone.
Probably some apps need to be updated for Android 9 and likely for managing an on-screen fingerprint scanner, which is more difficult to deal with than a physical one due to the overlay operation, particularly if an app doesn't strictly implement the Google Android fingerprint specific API.

I got to thinking about that, and I bet you are right.
I'm surprised I let myself purchase this phone with the in-screen FP reader. I never liked the idea. It's so convenient on the back...holding the phone, the finger lands there. I never understood what the big deal was about having it on the screen.
Add this to that equation...makes it frustrating.
Thanks for the input. I was wondering if anyone else was having the problem...interestingly not seeing that in the replies.
Hang on. I own Mate 20 Pro since November and I have never had this problem until more or less a week ago. I am using many apps where I authenticate with a fingerprint and they have been all working absolutelty fine. It just got broken a week or two ago. I don't believe it is app related since many apps suddenly got affected. It looks like a firmware bug to me, possibly after the latest update?
Yeah it after first emui 9.1 update.
Only Google Play/ pay is acting up like that.
Sure there is an update coming with July patch
Also fixes sudden shutdown.
I have some Apps where the fingerprint button is not visible after the update, but the function is still working. You just have to know the position.
I use an app called Torque Pro in the car to monitor all the vehicle sensors on my car via the OBD2 adapter, but Torque is also using my phones G-sensors, gyroscope, barometer etc constantly while it's open. Basically any phone sensor on my S5 G900F, it's using it all the time, but app permissions don't seem to give me an option to block this. Neither does the built in AppOps in my ROM. All I care about is my car sensors, not my phone sensors. I am currently trying to get a really efficient ROM and kernel setup in regards to battery life, but also want to be able to use my phone as normal and this needless access to my sensors would be a significant drain on the battery. Are there any apps/tools out there that can allow me to achieve this? I don't want to block all apps from accessing these sensors, just Torque's ability to constantly poll the sensors. tia
It is possible but you have to be rooted...

I am rooted. I found the sensor disabler xposed app, but that seems to disable all apps from accessing the sensors. It is however considered a Tasker plugin so I could probably make a script to only block sensors when Torque is running. I thought it would be part of the OS's app permissions as a rogue app could still get beneficial information from the sensors unrestricted.
I found out today that there is an experimental version of GrapheneOS out for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Anyone tried it yet?
It has been discussed a bit over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/root-custom-roms-for-google-pixel-6.4356839/page-2
Also over on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GrapheneOS/comments/r68k08
I have Grapheneos exp on my P6 here. No SIM in it, still messing around. Watching and waiting to see what else shows up to compare (Calyxos) before I commit to using it. It appears to be all there and working.
For those out there running Graphene, how has it been as a daily driver? Any issues that would stop one from running it daily?

I've been using it on a Pixel 4 and Pixel 4a. Only minor issue which I expect would also be on the Pixel 6 is that the Material You theming in Android 12 isn't yet supported. That means at this time, the highlight colors in the system menus are a bland grey colour instead of a bright colour. Daniel Micay, the lead developer did say in the Matrix chat group that the customization of colors will eventually be implemented.
I'm hearing it's very stable for Pixel 6.
Does it include google cam or will it work like stock if i install the apk?
No Google Cam. They have their own derivative cam app.
I have had to install ProtonAOSP over GrapheneOS. MS Outlook app crashing after 5 seconds, even after reset all settings. With Proton MS Outlook works fine. I'm not convinced I'l stay with Proton as there is still a heap on Google stuff in this ROM I don't want.
Proton looks complete, haven't seen anything that bothers me with it yet.

99% of apps work same as stock. Even my banking app works.
Of course you can install the camera app, it will work the same as stock. You do not need to use the GOS stock camera. I use gcam and photos app, and block both network access. Graphene allows blocking at OS level, not like a simple firewall, in which apps, even if blocked, they can still broadcast their intent to other apps.
Most importantly, you can install google play/store and these apps will behave like normal apps, with no extra permissions. To understand how huge this is, you need first to envision the scope of permissions these apps otherwise have (eg in stock OS or any other phone with google services/play installed).
I think grapheneos is the best thing you can have for your pixel. Its a shame not taking advantage of such amazing and secure OS.
A legend has worked out the Outlook issue:
App crashes related to upstream Webview updates? · Issue #105 · GrapheneOS/Vanadium
My wife started getting some apps crashing shortly after they're opened since updating to GrapheneOS 2021.03.19.14 on her Pixel 4. Is this related to what I've been reading regarding Google's bugge...
github.com
"I've successfully worked around the issue by downgrading to Outlook v4.2123.2."

Worth noting about installing GCam. I also need to install the GCam Services spoof apk. I also make sure I disable internet permission for GCam before opening it for the first time. Tapping on the photo preview icon won't work as Google's gallery app is missing. I use Simple Gallery from F-Droid.
