Any recovery we can use for Marshmallow? - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

XZ Dual Recovery is not yet compatible with Marshmallow and because of this I was forced to unlock the BL. Are there any recovery that we can use as of this moment? It seems that the development section for this is not so active.

I saw that there is a prerooted 6.0.1 with only TWRP recovery installed, not dualrecovery. Can you guide me on steps to get from official 6.0.1 to root status on an unlocked bootloader? I can't do anything to go back to previous firmwares and it seems I have to unlock as the only way to get anywhere.

I tried flashing the TWRP from the site of TWRP but it results in blank screen. Also XZDR is not compatible with Marshmallow.
Did you already backup your TA? You can only do this by obtaining root so it is a must to flash previous FW (KK or LP) then root and backup your TA partion unless you don't care for your DRM keys.
1. Go to http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/ and follow instructions to unlock your bootloader. Alternatively you can use flashtool (just search here in the forums).
2. Download a TWRP image of Scorpion Windy (Z3 Tablet Wifi) https://twrp.me/devices/sonyxperiaz3tabetcompact.html
3. Download older versions of SuperSU. Systemless root doesn't seem to work with Xperia Stock so you go the system way, older versions are preferred. Will attach the zip I used.
3. Flash MM FW by Flashtool, do initial setup.
4. Boot into fastboot, fastboot the TWRP image you downloaded. Reboot and you should be in recovery
5. Flash the SuperSU. Flash also the RIC defeat zip. Reboot and you'll notice your just in TWRP.
6. Force shutdown.
7. Open flashtool flash the mM FW but only kernel and the FotaKernel, dont wipe anything. Reboot. It should start.
That worked for me.
After you, need to install busybox from playstore and the SELinux Changer app
P.s I can't attach any file however you can find everything i mentioned (Zips) here at XDA and TWRP. I still need to enable init.d but I guess that's difficult with stock rom stock kernel. Oh, and you can install flashfire in substitute of your recovery. Be careful with flashing Zips after you have a stable system since you don't have recovery and therefore no Nandroid backup

Well then, I knew what I should have done before I lost root. In any case, what certain DRM keys would I be losing on the tablet? I know the biggest commotion on the phones were the camera algorithms.

You would lose camera algorithm (I don't care for that, it's a tablet and its pictures are bad from the start).
X-reality and display enhancements, sound and noise cancellation (This is i don't want to lose since i use mine mainly for graphic projects) and remote play. That's only what I remember, i don't know if I missed out something.

NO NEED TO UNLOCK THE BT, flash a MM prerooted zip you can make it yourself with prf you need the FTF, recroot and superSu.
Anyway if you still want unlock the bt backup the drm keys with backupta

That won't work and would cause bootloop. tried the latest supersu. anyway, i found the workaround and it's been working good now.

Wow, yeah that's too dire for me to go forward to. I should've just stayed on lollipop since it was already what was best for me.

[Q] A small question about flashing cm 12

Hi, everyone, I just got my z3 tablet and I am in love with it except i don't like the interface. So i decide to root my tablet without unlocking the bolted and I did made it and i did install TWRP. I have a question, since I have TWRP is it possible for me to install cm 12 rom or I need to have a unlock boot loader in order to install it?

You need to unlock to flash a custom kernel which would be needed by the cm12 to run. So first.
1.Backup drm keys
2.Unlock BL
3. Flash CM kernel via fastboot
4. Flash CM Rom via recovery.

Backup TA partition (I guess that's where the DRM keys are?)

Flash a recovery (any recommendations?) I found this tutorial, but I only need one recovery and I don’t want to flash that zip every time I install a new rom.

I guess you should just flash the kernel via fastboot after unlocking the bootloader, that would eliminate the need to flash a recovery. It's hitting 2 birds and one stone and besides CM uses a different kernel than stock so later you would really need to flash kernel.

I found this recovery which is only semi-permanent, because you have to flash it before you upgrade/install a new CM12 version. It’s not big deal tbh, but is there a permanent recovery, which I only have to install once.
I'm also curious about this.
Right now, I'm trying to download the Flashtool program from Sony, but apparently, you need to "register" for it. Where did you guys download your Flashtool from?

The whole procedure is really frustrating, maybe someone can help me here.
I did a backup of the TA partition and unlocked the bootloader. I tried flashing the boot.img from the cm.zip, but I have no idea how to flash the rom via the cm-recovery.
Flashing the advanced kernel to get TWRP wasn’t successful as well. I tried the fastboot mode of the Flashtool and flashed the kernel, but nothing changed.
Can someone post a brief guide with the next steps to get CM12 running (with cmd commands pls)?
EDIT: I just tried to use “adb sideload” in the CM recover, but “adb devices” doesn’t show the tablet .
EDIT2: EDIT: Seems like I got it to work after all. The DualRecover Installer worked, even without SuperSU installed.

I ran into the same problem usin the cm12 nightlies from 27th march 2015:
Sideloading would not work because the tablet is not recognized by the computer. I tried with Windows 7 and gentoo Linux.
Installing from the sd-card in recovery mode was also not possible due to a error of missing "/misc".
I solved the problem by manually choosing the driver in Windows 7. I booted the tablet into recovery. Choose update using adb as detailed in this post:

Then I found the device in the windows device manager. Here I manually choose the adb driver that I installed earlier from the flashtool package. After that the device was correctly recognized by Windows and I could Sideloade the cm12 image.

If you want to root the phone: Rooted XZU on Android version 5.0.2 or Kitkat with custom recovery installed.
This works on locked or unlocked bootloaders and any customization.

Instructions for upgrading without root:

To put your phone in flash mode, hold the volume down button when it is off and connect with the USB cable to the PC.
5- Reboot.
Instructions for upgrading with root:
0- If your existing system is rooted using Kingroot read the troubleshooting section below before continuing.
1- Back up your internal SDCARD and your apps.
2- Download C6833_14.6.A.0.368_No_System.ftf and 5.1.1_system.zip.
3- Copy 5.1.1-system.zip to your phone's internal SDcard.
4- Reboot to recovery and install 5.1.1-system.zip.
5- If you are coming from Kitkat just Turn the phone off. If you are coming from 5.0.2, reboot the phone and let it work through the boot animation which will take a while. Then it will show force closing messages and possibly reboots itself. At this point turn it off by holding down the power and volume-up keys for a few seconds. The phone will vibrate 3 times and turns off.
6- Open Flashtool and click on the flash icon. Choose flash mode.
7- Navigate to where you saved C6833_14.6.A.0.368_No_System.ftf and flash this ftf with your phone in flash mode. I recommend wiping apps and cache and data (Note that wiping data will erase your internal SDcard too). To put your phone in flash mode, hold the volume down button when it is off and connect with the USB cable to the PC.
8- Reboot.
Troubleshooting, etc.
This procedure works only if you follow every step carefully. When you are done you can easily test your root status in a terminal emulator or via adb. Please see the attached image.
If you have used Kingroot to root your existing system flashing this ROM may not work and it may leave your system with a partially updated file system that may be broken. The reason is that Kingroot (which in my opinion is malware) makes some of your system files immutable which means they cannot be removed during a software upgrade. To proceed, you should either find a way to replace this horrendous piece of code with SuperSU or downgrade to Kitkat and root with XZDualRecovery before trying this guide. Read the second part of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62936808&postcount=22.
If during the procedure for root the flashing of the ftf in step 7 fails, repeat step 7 with C6833_14.6.A.0.368_1275-8026_R2D.ftf or any other 14.6.A.0.368 ftf but exclude the system partition in the flashtool dialog window. If you don't exclude the system partition you will not get root.
If you have root after the procedure but something else doesn't work, try a factory reset.
Note that flashtool 0.9.19.0 was specifically released to support the new sin format on new devices and some of its features don't work with older devices. So to avoid taking any chances I used version 18.
I don't know if this works for C6802 or C6806. Some users reported success on 6806, like this one and this. For that model you follow this guide and use the zip file posted here. The only difference is that instead of flashing the ftf posted here in the next step, use the stock 14.6.A.0.368 ftf for your phone and exclude system.

You probably didn't exclude the system partition in this step:
7- Navigate to where you saved C6833_Customized+DE_14.6.A.0.368.ftf.*Exclude system partition*and flash this ftf.

ALso if i run this, I am still at locked bootloader...will i lose the partition that enable me to have all Sony's special goodies (i didn't mean the bloatware of course)?
Also i am running stock 5.1.1 already after OTA but interested to have root...shall i go with the 2nd steps with root?

Customized DE just means it is the German version of the ROM. I used that because I bought the phone in Germany. But the menus and keyboard and everything is in English so you would not even notice the difference.
This method will not touch your bootloader status so if you are locked you remain locked.
If you are already on 5.1.1 through OTA this will not work for you. You need to start from rooted 5.0.2 with recovery installed.

I think you can still do it straight from kitkat but if you are following the instructions with root in step 5 instead of rebooting just turn the phone off.
Let me know if that works.
so my ZU used to be rooted with Lollipop 5.0.2, but i removed Kinguser/chinese root app and no longer have root access. I've also previously installed recovery but don't know if it will still work ? i forgot how to boot into recovery to see if it even works.. any helpers?
Power on the phone and when u see the led notification start pressing either the Volume UP or Volume Down key a couple of times to make your phone boot into recovery mode

I am not able to instal 5.1.1-system.zip on rooted Sony Xperia Z Ultra c6833 with Android 5.0.2. The instalation is aborted
Had 5.1.1 lollipop installed, downgraded to 4.4.4 kitkat and rooted with kingroot successfully- installed xzu dual recovery and rebooted into recovery mode.
Flashed 5.1.1 zip and turned off. Flashed 5.1.1 Saudi Arabia ftf with flashtool (wipe everything - ticking to exclude system partition) with phone off and connected z ultra in flash mode and flashed successfully. Disconnected and booted.. took a while on wave animation and started fresh but no supersu and not rooted in 5.1.1?? any help thanks

[GUIDE][6.0.1 OFFICIAL STOCK] Use TWRP to get root access

So the OFFICIAL 6.0.1 is already out and this is not the BETA version. It's for consumer release.
So how do you get to this eh?
NOTES: Flashtool can be used for both LB/UB. You won't lose DRM keys or unlock bootloader if you flash via flashtool.
1. Install Flashtool (get it here: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php).
2. There is a XperiFirm option there which would allow you to download official FTF files.
3. Navigate your way to Z3 Compact and grab the D5803 version US Variant (since this is configured for GLOBAL-LTE but i might still need to test bands). Or just grab anything you want there as long as it's version: 23.5.A.0.570
3. Flash using flashmode (hit the lightning icon there).
Now there's this "WIPE" Box, you have 2 options!
- Check User data and App logs and hit flash -- this will factory reset phone so you better have a backup!
- Leave them UNCHECKED if you want to retain your apps from your previous STOCK ROM. (might automatically uninstall incompatible apps in the process).
Once it asks for your device to be connected. Do as it says (power down, then hold the vol. down button as you plug the phone in).
-- this should start flashing.
4. After the process you may now boot the phone and there you have it!
-- Things below require unlocked BL --
If you want root, you can use fastboot and TWRP 3.X (I've tested the TWRP version 3.0.2 on the 6.0.1 beta before)
send this command on fastboot:

and hit enter. It must return 'OKAY'.
Unplug phone then boot into recovery and flash your SuperSU.zip

If you have a locked BL, then root and install DualRecovery. There is an excellent thread here on XDA and you'll be on TWRP in no time. It also makes sure you'll have the drivers and flash tool and everything that you'll need for this already configured and ready to go.
If you have an unlocked BL, just go find TWRP and flash through fastboot.

P.S. I'm guessing for those with locked BLs, we can use PRFCreator and that FTF from Xperifirm to create a flashable, pre-rooted MM ROM...anyone tried? My Z3c is currently bricked (hopefully fixable) so I can't test at the moment.

Keep in mind that that method was used for the BETA version of the rom, but yeah it's more likely that it would work with the consumer release. I'll update the OP once I relock my BL and successfully gain root with it.
The UB method there has the same effect as mine
I could not get root with the method, i would get boot img failure on flashing superSU in twrp with unlocked BL but to solve the issue i just flashed the advanced kernel for 6.0.1 and superSU flashed fine..not sure if anyone else is having this problem but this method did not work for me.
Do I keep root with locked bootloader with this method ?

No you will lose root if you flash ftf on locked BL, you will need to root again using whichever method you used previously. If you flash an ftf file on ANY bootloader locked or unlocked it resets your phone to the contents of the ftf file.

No you will lose root if you flash ftf on locked BL, you will need to root again using whichever method you used previously. If you flash an ftf file on ANY bootloader locked or unlocked it resets your phone to the contents of the ftf file.

2nd EDIT: XDR doesn't work on MM yet. I'll give TWRP a try.

I'm using BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip
However I was looking at the PRFCreator thread and it looks like if you add Recroot v2 as the SuperSU it should work. Not sure if it will give a recovery though.
EDIT: Okay. Didn't install the SuperSU binary properly but Kingroot could install the root though. Tried to remove it and replace with SuperSU and got a bootloop. However I have a cunning plan.

NOTES: Flashtool can be used for both LB/UB. You won't lose DRM keys or unlock bootloader if you flash via flashtool.

If you want root, you can use fastboot and TWRP 3.X (I've tested the TWRP version 3.0.2 on the 6.0.1 beta before)

We have progress of sorts.
With prf creator add superSU and create the prerooted ROM.
In TWRP Wipe everything but SDcard and OTG
Install pre rooted ROM
Then Install RICDefieat.zip, byeselinux_flashable.zip, and BusyBox-v1.24.1-Stericson.zip
Power off the phone.
Open Flashtool
Load ftf of .570 and check the Exclude System box and flash the phone
Install TWRP using Z3C_MM_TWRP_Recovery_V2_By_Serajr
And that should be it.
Managed to get everything working bar the TWRP but I think that was my fault.
A download file of everything you need bar the ROM.

It seems to be working for me at the moment. Even TWRP.
Edit: TWRP is unstable and sometimes becomes unavailable . If that happens just find SGP621-RICDefeat.zip to enable R/W again and reinstall.

It seems that updating busybox to 1.24.1 stericson stops R/W permissions and the ability to access TWRP however it is easily fixed.

Bootloop at startup logo due to XZrecovery getting trashed

Long story - Tried to apply the latest Marshmallow rooted package for D6503 on my 6502 that was already rooted with XZ dual recovery. It installed successfully, was rooted too...but I forgot to add the patch that would fix the radio not working. So I try to reboot to recovery...and that doesn't work anymore. I tried installing TWRP recovery from the manager app, but it wouldn't reboot. Then I ran the XZ recovery installer externally, and now my phone is ****ed. Stuck at an infinite boot loop.
At this stage the only thing I can access is flashtool and fastboot, and since my bootloader is locked I can't flash a recovery that way (nor do I want to permanently lose DRM keys/camera quality as I've heard happens with unlocking the bootloader). I have a memory card and I used the option to disable loading the recovery specified on the XZ thread by adding a 'donotload' file on the sd card.
Still no use - I get a Sony logo for about 5 seconds, the screen goes dark and back to the same. At this point probably my recovery is screwed up or non existent and a bad situation has gone worse with the bootloop.
What can I try now?

XZDR is still not compatible with MM, that's why you got a bootloop...
Also you can't install the "regular" TWRP with twrp manager on a LB as there is no recovery partition... it won't work and probably will mess your phone in the process.
The solution is to flash any KK / LP .ftf with flashtool (i would wipe everything when flashing as i have backups of my data/apps) , root it with kingroot or any other method you like, install xzdr for KK/LP and finally reboot to recovery and install the latest MM prerooted rom from niaboc which already has root&recovery (not xzdr btw) included. Since you have D6502 don't forget to install the baseband patch after the rom again

Just did it exactly this way yesterday on my friends d6503 (minus the d6502 patch obviously) had 0 troubles MM, root and recovery working perfectly.

I managed to flash and root 17.1.2.A.0.314, but once again I'm unable to get any damn recovery to work. Installed XZDR, after that TWRP, in both cases it refuses to boot into recovery mode. What am I missing?

Weird, after you have your phone rooted it should be simple to install xzdr... just enable usb debugging in the phone and make sure you have the adb drivers correctly installed in your pc.
Download the latest xzdr from nut's thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606 ) unzip it and run install.bat . After a successful install the phone should reboot to twrp automatically and it's done.
Okay, I fixed it..using Flashfire! No idea why the recovery didn't work earlier, but now finally I'm on Marshmallow. Thanks for the help!

hey bro, just read your post. Yesterday i got an update msg in my software update menu of my Xperia Z2 D6502. After i updated i went into bootloop. i have very important stuff in my phone. i updated earlier too all the updates that sony servers inform about. so then i thought to flash with the stock file. Although i didnt knew the firmware number , i just flashed with 5.1.1 , 1st with Customized IN & later with of US. Both of them didn't work as well. Please help me out. I'm not much aware about this root stuff & all. hope to get reply soon from you or anyone in this forum.

Try what ptmaniac suggested - flash an older FTF that can be rooted (more recent ones can't), root it, install recovery and then flash the newest build.
You'll have to improve your Google-fu to find a suitable firmware and a root technique for it.

okay. you mean flashing any old firmware ( which i did and still in bootloop ) & root it. Then installing recovery for the same firmware ?

Sorry, I ditched my Z2 for a Oneplus 3 in August 2016. Learnt my lesson, only going to use phones with easily unlockable bootloaders.

Confirming everything about rooting... (and a bit more)

I have found many sites with conflicting answers, so please don't tell me "google is your best friend" for my silly/already asked questions...
So first what I have: a 5 month old, non modified M4 aqua (E2306), bought from a Canadian carrier. The firmware version is 26.1.A.3.111 (bootloader locked). My goal is to root my phone when I update to MM (using the method PiSpecialist has posted, I cannot post links), but I haven't done so for the fear of losing TA partition when unlocking BL. There is currently no way to root MM with locked bootloader.
Now, my questions:
1. When I unlock my BL, I will lose the TA partition (DRM keys) of the device. Yet to back these up, I need root access. Should I root my device while it is still on Lollipop? There are ways to root BL Lollipop correct? If so, please link a preferable way to do this.
2. Will I receive OTA updates after rooting my phone? If not, I should download and flash firmware from Xperifirm?
3. Will I lose root when flashing new firmware (e.g. flashing MM to a rooted Lollipop device)?
4. Is it dangerous to flash official firmware to a rooted phone? What is a safe way?
I found that dealing with TA is dangerous and can hard brick a phone. Anybody found a reliable script/tool to do this?
So this is pretty much what I am planning to do so far, if the above is correct:
Root my phone while it is still on Lollipop with a locked bootloader.
Backup my TA partition.
Get MM (from either flashing, or OTA, depending if I still get OTA updates)
Unlock bootloader (as there is no way to root for locked bootloaders in MM)
Root phone while it is on MM (if I don't keep the root after updating from lollipop)
Restore TA partition
DONE!
Not as many questions as I thought.... Any other advice/things to look out for would be appreciated
Theres no way yet to have root in mm /system, it needs to be in kernel and you cant use custom kernel and restore ta. All the questions you did are already answered in forums.
But in case your interested ill tell you what i did step by step to have original TA part with drm and "tunned" but unrooted /system.
Keep in mind that your warranty is void, you will loose all your data and you may brick your device. Messing up with TA partition is serious and dangerous stuff. The following steps are just to tell you what i did.
If you want to do so, do it at your own risk.
1. Clean install LP 3.120 via flashtool wipping user data.
2. Root with rootkit 3.xxx and installed twrp for BL
3. Backup TA
4. Unlock bootloader and install MM fw via flashtool
5. Now with BU installed boot.img and recovery.img
6. Now with root, deleted unwanted apps, installed adblocker, installed xposed, tunned some settings/apps etc.
7. When /system was how i wanted, i made a backup via twrp (data, system, cache).
8. Clean install LP 3.120 again via flashtool, wipping user data.
9. Root via rootkit and installed twrp for BL.
10. Restored TA partition
11. Restored the backup via twrp and SHUTTED DOWN the phone because itll not match with the rest of the fw.
12. Installed MM fw again via flashtool but this time, excluded /system part and DID NOT WIPE user data nor Apps log. (as ive restored MM /data backup before)
13. Started the phone.
Now i have MM with drm, locked bootloader, unrooted, xposed working with few modules, adblocker applied and some other mods. Also i receive updates via sony apps such as whats new. And the low speaker volume seems to be fixed.

Btw, false alarm regarding speaker volume, it still saturate with bass at higher volume resulting in a lower and kinda cracked volume output, it may need to be tweaked, or even try to port LP audio parametres to MM rom, if thats even a thing and possible, until sony fix it (if they do lol). Ive tested a variety of songs

Theres no method at this moment to put su binaries in /system, but if you dont mind you can keep the root as long as you dont restore your TA / lock bootloader as it needs a stock kernel signed by sony.

No problem . Here in m4 aqua forums you have everything you need to backup TA, unlock bootloader, flash, drowngrade etc. Just follow all the tutorials carefully good luck

No, you exclude system as you restored it early via twrp, flash the rest of the firmware like modem, kernel etc. Remember to dont wipe data and apps log also
Edit: if you flash system youll loose the changes you did thats why you need to exclude from bundle when choosin in flashtool

Your welcome. Yeah if someones finds a way to do the classic root like in LP this will be rootable for sure.
At least in the meanwhile we can have ads blocked and xposed with some modules and still keep bootloader locked with drm keys to keep functions and receive updates.

Yeah you root mm by flashimg boot.img.
First, some people reported that is recommended to restore TA partition in the same firmware as you backed them up. Second, if you restore your TA and you have custom boot.img (like that one to get the root) your device will not boot

If you want to do so, do it at your own risk.
1. Clean install LP 3.120 via flashtool wipping user data.
2. Root with rootkit 3.xxx and installed twrp for BL
3. Backup TA
4. Unlock bootloader and install MM fw via flashtool
5. Now with BU installed boot.img and recovery.img
6. Now with root, deleted unwanted apps, installed adblocker, installed xposed, tunned some settings/apps etc.
7. When /system was how i wanted, i made a backup via twrp (data, system, cache).
8. Clean install LP 3.120 again via flashtool, wipping user data.
9. Root via rootkit and installed twrp for BL.
10. Restored TA partition
11. Restored the backup via twrp and SHUTTED DOWN the phone because itll not match with the rest of the fw.
12. Installed MM fw again via flashtool but this time, excluded /system part and DID NOT WIPE user data nor Apps log. (as ive restored MM /data backup before)
13. Started the phone.
Now i have MM with drm, locked bootloader, unrooted, xposed working with few modules, adblocker applied and some other mods. Also i receive updates via sony apps such as whats new. And the low speaker volume seems to be fixed.

i have locked bootloader and its not unlockable (buyed to a company) and after some test i can tell you that don't need to unlock bootloader to do this
you can do it from rooted LP with twrp, first wipe data , system and cache, install MM fromzip (you can create the zip with PRF creator using the dummy_flashable.zip instead supersu zip) after MM its installed you can now install xposed, and other kind of flashable mods, lastly, power off phone and flash tft skipping system.sin
you will have android modded and untouched bootloader without root

id rather prefer to do the system changes with root in the mm firm, but sounds like a good method for those ones that cant unlock the BL.

Can't everyone unlock from the Sony website?

So first what I have: a 5 month old, non modified M4 aqua (E2306), bought from a Canadian carrier. The firmware version is 26.1.A.3.111 (bootloader locked). My goal is to root my phone when I update to MM (using the method PiSpecialist has posted, I cannot post links), but I haven't done so for the fear of losing TA partition when unlocking BL. There is currently no way to root MM with locked bootloader.
Now, my questions:
1. When I unlock my BL, I will lose the TA partition (DRM keys) of the device. Yet to back these up, I need root access. Should I root my device while it is still on Lollipop? There are ways to root BL Lollipop correct? If so, please link a preferable way to do this.
2. Will I receive OTA updates after rooting my phone? If not, I should download and flash firmware from Xperifirm?
3. Will I lose root when flashing new firmware (e.g. flashing MM to a rooted Lollipop device)?
4. Is it dangerous to flash official firmware to a rooted phone? What is a safe way?
I found that dealing with TA is dangerous and can hard brick a phone. Anybody found a reliable script/tool to do this?
So this is pretty much what I am planning to do so far, if the above is correct:
Root my phone while it is still on Lollipop with a locked bootloader.
Backup my TA partition.
Get MM (from either flashing, or OTA, depending if I still get OTA updates)
Unlock bootloader (as there is no way to root for locked bootloaders in MM)
Root phone while it is on MM (if I don't keep the root after updating from lollipop)
Restore TA partition
DONE!
Not as many questions as I thought.... Any other advice/things to look out for would be appreciated

If on rooted 5.0 all you need to do is flash a pre-rooted mm zip via recovery on lollipop, no need to unlock the Bootloader for root unless you have a device that has drm-verity security activated.

Oh yeah I completely forgot about that... someone released a prerooted rom about a week ago on the forums. This will less complicate the process for bl locked rooted MM, thanks!
