Try to flash back. Sometimes cable contact issue. Don't worry about download mode. Or is it different than 'software upgrade has encountered an issue'?

Hi,
I recently bought a gs2 however its not working, basically the guy who sold it to me was trying to upgrade it to latest software via xda apparently and now its blocked. it just flashes the screen, black screen, you can see the yellow triangle when i try to put it into recovery or download mode. i have done some research but cant get my head round it. it comes up on kies as pda:lpt/phone:lq6/csc:lpa(xeu) as current firmware version. i have tried using odin to re set it and flash it also however odin wont read it and wont come up yellow , i have removed and re set the drivers still not luck.
i am not very clued up on android as i used to use blackberry.
can anyone please help me on what to do and how to do it?
thank you

I was trying to upgrade to 4.3 through kies (I9300XXUGMK6) on my dutch non-rooted I9300, however when downloading the firmware to my device it was stuck at 4% and rebooted. Now I get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.". Already tried that but it fails every time. I've also tried flashing the firmware with odin (like posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969 ) but it also fails everytime.
I've tried to go in recovery mode (Volume up + home + power) but get the same firmware error message. Does anyone know how I can get my phone to work again?
---Fixed---
Used another cable and tried the emergency recovery again, this fixed it and updated it to android 4.3

It was stuck while downloading from the pc to my phone, and yes I have tried the emergency recovery but it will not download to my phone.
Update: I have found the solution, it was a faulty cable! That was why it was stuck on downloading. Thanks for asking the right questions!

So i installed throw Odin, a 925F firmware to an 925X Live demo unit because i thought it will work (wrong thought ). So now whenever i try to turn on the phone, i get a message saying "An error has ocurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC Software".
When i try using Smart Switch, it says that the Device is not compatible.
Odin does recognizes the phone, but i can not find the correct firmware to flash.
Is there any link that could help me
Thanks!

Live units are not full functional phones, they for example dont have mobile modem etc, also they don't have a real imei code...
Not much to do with them

Did you use Sp flash tool?, if yes You should tick all except preloader. You will have to wait 5-15mins for the phone to boot up.

The firmware that you tried to install, is that your "native"?! Is it for XQ-BC62? If yes then why are you trying to update with flashing instead of normal update or xperia companion?!
Also is it for the same country/region as the original? I had the same error when by mistake I downloaded a UK version instead of EEA.

I have just had the same issue using newflasher. I don't believe i made any mistake during the process. Had to do a Xperia Companion Repair to repair. Resulting in a complete loss of data.

Latest version from end of last year. I actually checked this after it failed
What did you type before you flash like yes and no in the beginning ?

99% of all failures I have had when using Newflasher have been caused from poor USB connection. I now have a very specific USB cable that I only use when flashing files to Sony devices. I also close nearly all background programs and disconnect any non essential USB devices.
If you all use newlfasher type all N when it ask for Y or N except for keep userdata thats an Y, thats it, never had an issue with Newflasher on my Xperia 1 iii.

My Xperia 1 iii have same issue, also it keep showing "Your device is corrupt it cant be trusted and will not boot Your device will be powered off in 5 second"
I've tried all method to put it to recovery mode but failed.
Any one could help?
For my XQ-BC62, I ended up getting the device is corrupt issue after flashing the rom via fastboot instead of via fastbootd. (it's confusing bc you have to use fastboot to unlock the bootloader, not fastbootd). To fix it, Xperia companion software told me to use Emma, so I downloaded that and was able to restore stock firmware to the device.
