Can anyone of you, fit 2 owners, submit first impressions?
I am mostly interested in how notifications are working, are they seamless of the phone brand (same set of features no matter of phone being Samsung or not)...
Second thing is battery ofc, for instance, can it last 4 days (GPS free), with notifications turned on, normal usage?
I Like the device, own first generation, but use it with open fit app, and I am missing mostly notifications part as it was intended when using with great fit manager...
THANKS...
UPDATE: There's great thread on this device already, that if I knew existed, I'd hardly started this one, but the location of it is questionable, as I am not sure if gf2 was ever advertised as s7e accessory...

I have Samsung S6 Edge, smooth connection without problem, also with wireless Energy Sistem headphones. Battery life, 4 days only without using it By me it is between 2-3 days.

Not good, but satisfying By the way, charging is very comfortable with original charger. So, in technical, hardware side, I am satisfyied wit Gear Fit 2. Annoying is only buggy software.
Good, hopefully they implemented reply by template for both call and SMS notifications, find these options really useful...
But, 2 day battery is a deal breaker to me... We'll see...

BTW, first charging (not sure, was it fully charged?) lasts 2 full days. Used hardly - few trail "trainings" (~1hr each) with GPS, few workout session (~1hr each), played with settings, listened music, tryed some watchfaces.
2 days max, not with brighteness on 10
after 6, almost 7 days of 'testing' up till today

Here's my quick and dirty review so far. My prior devices: Fitbit, Polar Loop, Garmin Vivosmart, Garmin VSHR, Microsoft Band 2
Hardware: Very nice design. Well put together (doesn't feel cheap), screen is gorgeous. Band is comfortable and I don't even realize I'm wearing it. Waterproofing is nice. Has magnetic charging and charges at 1.32%/min. One con is that they don't include a loop on the band to lock it in place - I've had it pop off while brushing my wrist against things. Heart rate is accurate enough for RHR calculations. Had to buy a loop (18mm size) for $5.
Software: Beta-like. Buggy. Calories aren't calculated correctly. There are some decent apps (caffeine and water) and the one's there do have good UI/GFX. Notifications are easy to read and work bidirectional (an issue I had with the MS Band 2, where reading it on the phone didn't sync the read status on the band, annoying). Stair tracking is finicky and prone to inaccuracies.
Battery Life: I just logged a test of 91% usage over 68hrs. No GPS & wifi off. Display brightness at 5. Bluetooth on w/ notifications. 1hr worth of workout w/heart rate monitoring. Sleep tracked. That puts it at about an estimate 76hr total time if I don't use power-save mode. That's worlds better than the 50hrs I got with my Band2.
Verdict: It's a great piece of hardware. But buy it only if you feel they'll get the software bugs ironed out and not just abandonware it. I haven't used the original GearFit, so I don't know if they kept working on that.
What I Hope They Add in Software:
+ User voice or feedback submit option.
+ Invert Rotate-On, for wearing it inside the wrist.
+ Weightlifting/Interval workout option on band.
+ Ability to configure power-save mode to automatically turn on. Right now it asks permission at around 10%. Maybe even allow the user to select what it does (ie: grayscale, dim screen, etc.)
+ Automatic goal scaling
+ Inactivity meter (a few bands have this, it's a nice feature).
+ Ability to temporarily go full brightness on screen with extra tap or click. I have mine set to 5, would love to be able to just double-tap it to boost it for when in daylight. I don't believe it has a light sensor.
I'd recommend buying it with a protection plan. I got mine for $175+$30 at BB for 2years no questions replacement. Only reason I did it is because these bands are often made to the cheapest pricing and prone to failure. In fact, I traded my MS Band 2 straight across for this (also paid $175+$30 for that) because I had gone through 4 of those in 6 months.
JUst got mine this morning...Super Comfortable, Display is Awesome...Notifications work great with my V10... I am hoping more apps get developed this time around.
I picked it up a week ago (release day, the 10th), but just returned it. I never return things, and I hated returning this.
My experiences:
GREAT:
-Easily the most comfortable fitting device I've ever had on my wrist, and with no clip, it doesn't scrape desks and laptop palm wrests, or is even noticeable as a lump on the wrist (complete opposite of my experience with my wife's Microsoft Band 2).
-Screen is incredible, indoors, and not bad outside
-Swipe navigation is smooth and responsive
-The display wake gesture was pretty solid and responsive
-The charger is awesome. Pulls device into place via magnet perfectly and works the same regardless of direction, the display shows time and charge, right side up both ways. Mount is stable and low-centered to sit on desk firmly, without being oversized or heavy. Charges extremely fast
-GPS was dead on each day of my 42 mile daily bike commute, in comparison to my Wahoo ELEMNT cycling computer's GPS
MEH-ISH:
-The notifications were good, but limited details which required I go to the phone often to know what it was about. I understand it's a band and not a full blown smartwatch, so not really complaining
-There wasn't much you could do with it as far as apps, but it's new and I'm sure that will change soon.
-The auto-sleep detection didn't work well for me. If I watched TV before bed, it would count it as sleep, and if I got up in the middle of the night to pee and let the dogs out, it would end the sleep session, sometimes ignoring me going back to bed, other times counting them as separate sleeps. If I went into S Health to manually edit it, it was extremely buggy, wouldn't save, would lose the data, ect. I gave up trying. Since there was no manual sleep start/stop like you can with exercise, you have to go with the auto-detect.
BATTERY:
I ran mostly default settings as far as alerts/notifications 24/7 heart rate, ect. My 42 mile daily commute (~2 hrs) I would manually start the cycling mode with GPS and heart rate (ebike, video of my commute) lol and from that, after 24 hours, it would be down to around half battery. Each morning I would have a cup of coffee at my desk and charge it (<20 minutes). I'm the kind of person that needs habits or I forget. So, even if the device lasted 5 days, I would prefer to stick it on the charger at the same time every day to top it off as a routine. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if it lasted a week, or a month+, if I need to travel, but as long as it easily lasts a day, I can be good with that, considering the fast charging. The Microsoft band 2 takes 1hr+ from my experience.
NOPE:
-The stopper, for me, was the locked down data for exercise. Heart rate data couldn't be viewed in the 1 second format anywhere but in a very basic graph on the S Health app and on the device. It doesn't even carry to Google Fit. Even though there's Strava sharing, export options, ect, it ONLY allows GPS and time stamp data out. Even in developer mode of the phone and app, I could only see the 24 hour heart rate samples, and random samples during the activity, nothing even close to the 1 second data, though better than the Microsoft Band's 1 minute heart rate data. Since my S7 doesn't have root, I gave up trying to get at the data.
DISCOVERY:
-Having bought it from Best Buy, I exchanged it for the Vivoactive hr. HOWEVER, after exchanging it, I noticed a Samsung rep in the store so I went to him to say how much I loved the Gear Fit 2, but I HAD to have access to the data, so returned it. He said something like: "Very soon there's a Tizen update coming that will open that data up via an API for the major fitness platforms, including Strava, who is already set up to receive that data once we update".
-Well, crap, wish I had known that before. The Vivoactive hr display is HORRIBLE, I have the brightness cranked and a custom, bold, white watch face to help me try and see it in dim areas. In the sun it's fine, because it reflects the light to see the numbers, but in the dark it's extremely hard for me to see. Also, the notifications are more like annoyifications because they keep re-notifying even after being dismissed, randomly.
i saw a photo in hg notification. good enought for me
My thoughts so far
From a hardware perspective, I am a big fan. I find it to be very comfortable, the screen is gorgeous, and the whole thing is very responsive. I would like more battery - I am only getting a day out of mine so far, but that does involve about an hour of GPS from my bike commute along with an abnormal amount of use, as it is a new toy.
From a software perspective, it still needs work. I have not had it autodetect my workouts yet, and GPS occasionally fails to pick up a signal. Notifications in general are spotty. I will get most text messages on my wrist, but I can't get any alarm clock program to work. My main interface issue is that it is rather common for a swipe to be picked up as a press, especially if I start the swipe on the screen as opposed to off of the edge. I'm not enamored with any of the available watch faces, and I would like an always on mode.
Personally, I have no issues with S Health, but my fitness tracking was very fragmented beforehand. My previous tracker was a Basis Peak, which was locked into its own bubble anyway. So far, I am still doing double tracking of workouts with Endomondo, but once I am satisfied that the GPS will be more consistent (or that automatic tracking will work), I will drop that.
All in all, I am happy, but would like to see a few updates.
Can someone compare it vs. Fit1 (I mean owners of both devices), I.e. notifications, factory apps...
I'm still getting 2.5-3 days of battery life after cycling through it 2x now. I have 8% left after 70 hours of being on with GPS enabled; you can read my OP for more details on that, but I'm happy with it so far.

That's fine with me; I also reviewed the original Gear Fit (I'm surprised the OP is still on the second page) if your curious to see how much it has changed. I managed to eek out 4 days of battery with the original if I recall correctly. I turned on power saving mode earlier today (about 5 hours ago) and it has really helped my battery last this last stretch before it dies. I just hit 72 hours (3 days) of solid usage and I still have 7% left thanks to power saving mode for the past few hours. I think anyone can manage 2-3 days of use if they follow the way I used the device, or any alternative that allows you to use the Gear Fit 2 without limiting it.

Yes, remember your review of gf1, now, as you've mentioned it..
I am using my third gf1 for 2 years now, tried some wear devices, sw3 was the closest to the level I wanted (although I am fan of Sony devices, damn, that thing was so ugly), fr230 was good from noon wear devices, but always coming back to gf1, and the simplicity and looks it had...
I will wait for few months to see how the development rolls out, and also whether will it be accessible in my country via official channels, but I am already pretty sure gf2 to be on my wrist eventually...

It is a huge improvement of the first generation GF even though I sold mine a while back. I read through my initial review of the GF, and wow has it changed! I tried a few Android Wear Watches. I'm enjoying the GF2 so far without any real issues which is a good sign. Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm fairly disappointed in this battery and will start gathering benchmark metrics, asking others to do the same for more data points and what does and doesnt work to increase.
Currently I have disabled sense ui and reduced widgets down to hardly anything, just a search and taskiller. I seem to get around 10 hours with moderate usage (occasional short call, several texts and quick searches, etc) letting android download background data and check google accounts email, contacts and calendar (this really is the power of the phone, cloud syncing pim). Weather, stocks and other "widgetable" apps are refreshed only on demand.
It's worse than I thought. I went less than 6 hours today with only one quick call (<1 minute) a few youtube clips and 2 texts. I noticed the phone was pretty warm in my pocket compared to my HTC touch (it actually felt cold sometimes if left on the desk) and a few times I noticed that there would be no radio "bars" but most of the time I had 3-4 out of 5 bars (I never have recetpion problems where I am) leading me to believe that something goofy is going on with the radio. I am going to reset since my testing is over today!!

Whit what tool did you test it?
It's still to early to tell but I'm seeing decent battery life. Better than my pre but not great. Certainly acceptable considering I'm playing with it all the time since its new.
i also am seeing bad battery life.. i had court yesterday, and had it OFF most of the day.. and it was dead last night, i turned it on after court.

I read that the European version has a small battery, but because it is GSM is supposed to have as good or better battery life than the CDMA version.
The GSM Hero has a 1350mAh battery, and battery life is reportedly slightly better than the Sprint Hero even with its more capacious battery. As you correctly surmise, this is due to the Sprint being a CDMA network.
Why Sprint would want to sell a lower capacity battery though, I've no idea!
Regards,
Dave
my battery didn't last a full day either
I am into my 3rd day of usage (on single charge) on my week old hero.
Running on 2G network, turning off all data connectivity, manual reduce screen brightness, minimum vibrate and sound notifications for typing and applications
I have a Sprint Hero and the battery is at half strength not too long after lunch. But since I've only had the phone 3 days, I probably am playing with it more than usual. I'm guessing Seido will come out with an extended life, same size battery. They did with my Touch and it was great! It was very handy having a spare battery when I was out for a long period of time, away from anywhere to charge the phone.
Im also into my 3rd day of usage, and been off the charger all day today... had a couple calls, couple texts, bout 3hrs worth of browsing/facebook/twitter... down to about 60% as we speak so i know its a vast improvement from my tp... hell, 2 hrs of anything on that phone and it would be below 50 percent before the day even really started lol...
There are a number of things you can do to help improve battery life.
1 ) Turn off Wifi autodiscovery. You can always turn it on again if you are at a spot where you know you have a good wifi connection and plan on using it. My Hero was constantly telling me about wifi hotspots that I was driving past. I've found a number of widgets that will turn wifi on with one push.
2 ) Set Twitter, Facebook, and or email to check for updates less often than stock. I don't remember exactly what mine was set to at the beginning, but one of the first things I did was set Twitter to every four hours and Facebook to every two hours.
3 ) GPS is also a battery eater. Turn it off unless you need it.
4 ) Whenever you get a new phone, you ( well, I do, I'm just assuming that you do, too. ) use the heck out of it, playing with settings, seeing what all the programs do, downloading apps and games. Battery life should pick up as the newness wears off.
If you guys want a little more juice, Seidio just came out with a 1750mAh battery that fits in your device's existing battery space and doesn't require a replacement door.

Problem is, whats the point of having a phone designed to have al lthese features if you can't use them as the battery just dies.
My T-Mobile G2 / Hero dies so quick it's annoying.
Yes I've been doing lots of stuff with it this week but to have to turn of 3G to save battery is a laugh. My old Sony phone uses 3G etc and it can last a good two days without charge.
I've kept my 3G on but have kept all the updates to minimum amounts or to be done manually.
Background data also turned off most of the time but again, if it's required, then we shouldn't have to turn off.
It's about time batteries were developed or the companies actually provide longer life ones.
All the testers reviewes keep going on about how great the battery life is doing all these things and stuff, what batteries have they been given to use compared to the rest of us I wonder?
First of all, hello to everyone. I have been reading through a lot of threads here in the last few weeks after getting my HD2, especially the ones about battery life.
I have never owned a smartphone, so I have no comparison but I'm barely getting through 1 day of use when fully charged! And I'm not even using it that much yet, Wifi is off, no data transfers, just some texting and calls. I have installed Bandswitch and Battlog, didn't really help though.
Got the phone brand new (T-Mobile US) and haven't done any major tweaking yet, it's still pretty much stock with a few programs that I installed so far.
Do you guys have a similar experience or is it completely different? I love the phone, but if I dont even get through one day of use (and I want to use the phone in the future, not just for surfing but for music streaming or web browsing), I would have to bring it back.
Any help appreciated!
It's just something you have to live with, buy a spare battery, or the extended battery, flash a lighter ROM, adjust screen brightness turn off push e-mails etc etc.
I can get 2 days battery from very light use. i.e. a few texts and calls a day, no Wi-Fi, bluetooth or internet browsing. That's just how smartphones are.
So how do you do it on a daily basis?
My battery is fully charged in the morning and lets assume I'm using the phone for what I bought it for - some music streaming, gps here and there if I need it, some web browsing, calls and texts etc.
I haven't even started using most of the features of the phone and my battery has died twice on my already while I was out at night.
How can that be normal or acceptable? I can't charge my battery every 6h...

Maybe you shouldn't have a smart phone? Battery technology is ****, it's a shame, but it's true. The only thing I can suggest is a spare battery, I carry one everywhere.
I generally watch an hour and a half of video a day on my phone, text, call, use the internet and I can still make a 9 hour day with 40%+ battery left, and just incase I am out and about in the evening before I have a chance to get the phone on charge I have the spare.
But with that said half hours charge from the mains will give you a good 30% topup I very seldom have to swap the batterys and I use a pretty juicy ROM.

or maybe not
Given his kind of use, 2 days should be normal. Right now I'm squeezing 3 days out of this battery, and that's only because I swap it out when it's at 10%, otherwise it could be a little longer... and a few calls here and there is not the only thing I did with it... it's still my work pda after all
Since it's pretty much stock, unless it gets better with time (the first recharging cycles are the worst) and even after a hard reset it won't get better, it probably is something wrong not software related.
Install battclock and check the standby battery drain, shouldn't be much higher than 4mA, up to 7mA could be normal, any higher than that, especially if significant, and you've got something wrong, and found the cause to the short battery life.
First off, buy a couple of cheap oem batteries from here...
Now, these eBay batteries have performed slightly better than the original battery...
Some of us smartphone users are so used to poor battery life we have power charging cradles at home work and car just to keep the charge up... And have spare batteries every in case of emergency...
I take my phone off the charger at 6am to go to work... My avg day is 6-10 calls, 20 reminders, an hour of UNO, an hour as a wifi router and I return home at 5pm with 50-60% battery life...
they are trying to make batteries smaller and thinner so they can make the phones thinner and smaller so battery life is compromised. But you do need to give it some time to settle in.
Back up batteries and cradles to charge them are cheap and an easy solution. So are extra chargers to keep at work, in the car, etc. Most people can charge their phone at least an hour during the day and that should give you all you need.
The only smartphone that I didn't carry an extra battery for was the moto q9c, because it came with an extended life battery. But on these phones, that probably isn't the best option.
So what did you guys do to improve the battery life of your HD2? Are there any specific programs (I heared about G-Profile) you are not supposed to use or did you guys just deinstall all the T-Mobile Apps?
If I can just get 1 day of actual use out of it I am OK with that. I just dont want to have die every second or third day if I use more often than normal...
Any suggestions or may tests I could do? I feel like I could stream music on Slacker for about 90 Minutes and the battery would be dead...
EDIT: Just did Battlog for about 15 Minutes, my phone uses between 15ma and 31ma when in standby. So where do I start, how do I find the culprit?
I love huge screen HTC devices and Im a power user, so my solutions for power issues are:
Callpod Fueltank Duo
http://palmtops.about.com/od/accessoriesperipherials/fr/Callpod-Fueltank-Duo-Review.htm
Mugen Extended-size High-capacity 2600mAh Battery for HTC HD2
http://www.mugenpowerbatteries.com/
There is a 15% discount right now, better hurry.
Extra chargers and thats it! Now I browse, calls, emails, music, videos, TV stream (Slingplayer) and maximize all of the other features of my HD2 t9193.
Software and the end-user are the cause behind battery drain. I've got 2.5days out of moderate use so I don't think it's the hardware at all.
Methods for testing battery consumption and proof it is typically software related
Hi,
At the risk of looking like I'm trying to hijack this thread, I started a discussion on this particular subject a while ago as feedback on my finding after reading almost all the threads I could find regarding battery use on the HD2. Lude219 is 100% correct, the issue is always software related (yea, I know there might be exceptions to the rule) and my phone was a prime example of that.
See the thread below that explains how to measure your battery consumption, has logs and screen shots from users you have high consumption and also people who have systems where battery life is more than 48 hours so that you can compare your results.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718173
Regards
I'm also sure it's software related. My phone would use app. 2% overnight with all connections closed. This i tested over months. Then suddenly without me changing anything drastic software wise, it pulled 5% per 3-4 hours. So after going thru all the cleaning routines nothing helped exept a good "ram cleaning" . Somehow or other the phone starts processes over time wich consume alot of power. One would have to look into it with a process manager to find out what exactly it is. WinMo seems to be quite sofisticated looking at all the running processes. So my view is , keeping the system tidy might be the only way to save the extra power. This is where the huge diffrence to other platforms seems to be, it can take quite a while until you have configured your phone the way you need it. I am useing the stock rom 1.66 German
thanks you guys for participating and sharing your thoughts.
But now, here is a thinker:
Last night, I let my battery drain all the way to zero and then recharged it at night. The only other thing I did was installing BSBTweaks and Touch X Taskmanager. I also changed my Bandswitch Settings to turn off data when not used and put it at 60 sec (instead of 500 sec before).
And I couldnt believe what I was seeing, I took my phone off the charger this morning around 8.30am and now at 7pm I am still at 84%!!! I did not use the phone heavily but sent and received a few texts, made 1 call and played around with it for a little bit. Similiarly to what I did in the beginning after I got the phone, but then the battery had almost died at 7pm!
I am super happy and hope it stays like that but cannot explain why all the sudden it is that different...
Hi everyone,
This is a very usefull thread, for me it is, thanks to everybody that answered.
regrding the last post, a noobish quesition is
”Bandswitch Settings to turn off data when not used and put it at 60 sec (instead of 500 sec before): how do i do this?”
I remember stumbling upon this setting the day i got the phone and started viciously going through it.
Somehow it didnt store in my memory the path i went that day so i can try doing what the man sugested.
So if anyone can lay a hand, much obliged.
Regards
i lost 12 pct over night in 9 hours with my radio turned off last night and only gmail and texts were open...
with battlog how do i do the test so it stays in standby? it keeps turning the screen on and off when i run benchmark
You may want to flash a new radio. Try a new one each day and measure battery life. I use radio 2.12.50 and have had a good experience.
yeah but with my radio turned off the radio shouldnt affect it shoudl it?
i use blackberry to stream pandora radio thru aux for about 8 hours a day and it still has 2 bars left after that.
HD2 just sits there and kills the battery lol
what kind of phone is that when you have to disable all its functions every time you dont use it?
seriously this is called unfinished product or poor design, that is beeing sold to customers as a next best thing.
you guys can argue with me all you want. i heard many excuses from users advocating the companies. such as. if you dont like this than pay more for a better product. well HD2 is a better product, its a 500 dollar phone damn it.
but you dont realize that even the "better" products suffer from same underdevelopment syndrome.
companies spend millions on consumer research and consumers spend millions on **** they dont need every year. cows eat grass, consumers eat garbage made by big companies.
where are the better products? they dont exist because it became "normal" to have a faulty OS or for your phone buttons to fall off, or battery to explode.
companies worked long and hard to make consumers get used to the idea that garbage is just a part of life, and worked long and hard to minimize costs of production, and cut corners.
which corners?
the final QA testing that is not beeing done by a company, so they can release the phone 3 months earlier, the consumers pay for the phone and test it.
we work for the company and we pay for it instead of getting paid.
the phone breaks oh how sad ,
company takes note(dont use this cheap glue or the buttons fall off, get a lil more expensive glue next year)
so they use better glue and cut another corner and we buy another "new and improved phone" and this time screen goes dim oh dang not again...and it continues.
do you disconnect your car battery every night so it doesnt die? or when you buy a lexus do you drive with your AC off because it cant pull the car around when ac is on same time as the stereo?
I have a few question about your experience with the vibrant. What made you choose this phone? Do you like it so far? Do you like this over ther other Galaxy series phones?
I like the look of the Captivate better, but not the feel in my hand. Also this can work on ATT or T-mo networks, Captivate cannot. Epic is full of cool, and is enormous and has a worse battery life.
My complaints with the vibrant are the same as I would have with any Galaxy S phone.

Love the huge and gorgeous display. The phone is amazingly fast with the correct rom+kernel+configuration and it works exactly as advertised.
The major thing for me was the screen which i like to watch movies or tv shows in landscape view when away from home.
Very satisfied with the phone overall and worth the money.

thanks for the feedback, glad to hea you enjoy it. How's the battery life on it?
The battery life could be better, but isn't the worst. I leave the phone unplugged before I go to sleep at night (around 11pm) and it'll usually last until 9-10pm the next night. I send a few dozen texts and emails, make a dozen calls, a few google searches and a little bit of random useage. It lasts longer than the battery on my old G1 and Cliq, which I usually had to turn 3G off to get it through a full work day. On the Vibrant, I don't change a thing and it lasts all day, though rarely into the next day.
When I'm on it non-stop, playing games and searching the internet, it'll last 3-4 hours tops. Not too bad considering the large screen and load on the processor.

You should try Setting Profiles [it's in the market .... theres a lite version too] for when you go to sleep....here's what I do:
CONDITIONS:
1200AM-0600AM
Screen Off
Battery Discharging
Schedule 15/17 [makes it turn off airplane mode for 2 minutes every 17 minutes ... In case there is an urgent voicemail or something].
ACTIONS:
Activate Airplane Mode
It's done wonders for my battery life & if I'm actively using the phone [screen is on], it turns airplane mode off, so the phone is usable.
Doing this, you might be able to squeeze a little bit more out of it
I open this post because I haven't been able to find any review or opinion about one of the functionalities that offers Stratos: Skiing.
Has anyone try it and can share his or her experiencie?
I am interested mainly if it is able to dismiss the skilifts automatically on Alpine ski.
I assume it can measure speed, hear rate, and the other normal variables that are shared with running.
Any experience?
As well I am interested to know if for long multi-day hiking trips the battery would resist with the GPS active? (like 12hours sport tracking?)
In general, it would be good to know the tracking difference between one sports mode or the others
Last weekend I just made a long hike and starting with full battery and with GPS on of course, it recorded all my 11 hours hike. At the end, the battery was at 12%
I have just returned from a 400+km hike where I used the Stratos constantly. With an average of 7h of hiking I got 3 full days of battery life: Bluetooth on, sleep tracking but obviously internal HR sensor off during activities and outside.

What about the readings on altitude? Looks pretty inaccurate in the reviews and it's a very important metric when hiking.
Does anyone else have any feedback on the "Skiing" mode please? I am also interested in this mode, and whether it automatically detects travel on the ski lift. Thanks.
Stratos skiing mode
Just used my stratos for a couple of days skiing and am pretty disappointed in the results. Firstly the altitude readings are pretty inaccurate, out by more than 10% in some cases. Amizfit support responded with the following "The altitude error is greatly affected by the environment.
Due to environmental factors, the error may reach tens of meters or even hundreds of meters." So even though this is a metric that is important to skiing dosn't look like it can be improved.
Secondly, yes it looks like the watch does stop recording during lift travel and start again during a downhill run. This is what I noticed when I looked at my tracks. There was the odd lift travel that may have been a bit downhill that got recorded as a lap but most of the laps were actual runs. I even looked at my watch at the end of a run/lap and noticed that it recorded the downhill distance and descent for that lap. When I started riding the lift these results cleared and the watch was ready for the next run/lap. So this is were the good news stops. Even though I was under the impression that the watch was recording all this great individual lap information when I tried to see my results in the evening on my phone app most of my metrics were all combined into totals. For example total laps, total downhill km, total descent and total time. The only metrics listed per lap/run is max speed which is good and the time each lap ended, which is useless becuase it includeds lift waiting and riding time.
It is sad as I believe the watch has been designed and is capable of gathering detailed information but the phone apps inability to present this information totally ruins a potentialy good product. At the moment I would not recommend this watch for skiing. Go back to using your phone and any of several free ski tracking apps.
Many thanks for the detailed feedback. I used the Skiing mode on my Pace a few months ago and found it almost useless because it didn't detect travel on the skl iift and treated it as part of the ski run, thus totally ruining the data it collected.
So it meant I had to take my glove off to manually start and stop the Pace (since it doesn't have buttons like the Stratos), which of course means digging under the sleeve of your ski jacket and fleece, and then adjusting the clothes back. Doing this at the start and stop of every run is a big hassle when you're with a group of people. It's not worth it.
I don't think I checked the altitude accuracy, so I can't comment on that. I also couldn't work out how to use the 'lap' function. It treated every run I did as the first lap, even if it was a repeat run on the same slope.
Amazfit still doesn't seem to have any instructions for this mode.
Hi all,
My phone is exceptionally clean (using my debloat script), other than Whatsapp there's nothing using mobile. I feel the battery has been getting worse each week so today I did a test.
Fully charged I went for a cycle ride lasting exactly 4hrs. I didn't use the phone at all, by the time I got back the battery was 55%.
So I think there's nothing else left for it other than the battery is end of life. As I'm an electronic engineer it'll be easy to take the chip off the battery and stick it on another if I can find one the right size. Has anybody done any investigation regarding this?
Cheers,
Andrew
Hey Snoopy!
Ya, I just did the same thing with my battery. Taking off the back is easy. And the battery setup is just like most non-removable phone batteries, with the small pcb that attaches to the battery on the two metal tabs (- +) that protrude from the battery cells. So it's easy enough to replace, so long as you're comfortable soldering onto those two tabs.
The battery is miniature. Absolutely tiny. I believe it's 4mm x 34mm x 40mm (but that's from memory), so you can find some little guy on alibaba, but it has to be pretty much the same size, with only about 1mm of wiggle room.
What I am planning to do: I'm just leaving the back cover OFF, and getting a bigger sized one (like maybe 10mm thick), and then making a new back cover for it. Like out of wood, or maybe I'll melt down some aluminium and cast one. That way, maybe I can get this thing ready to last a week or so.
Lastly, I don't know if you know this yet, but GRAPHENE batteries have hit the market. These charge in just like 2 minutes and last way longer, and are significantly smaller. If you can find a graphene battery that fits, it would definitely be worth the money.
Cheers!
Hi Andrew,
first I want to thank you very very much for your work on the palm. It helped me a lot to use this phone in the way I want.
I'm using three of this phones (verizon from ebay-us) in Germany (Provider Congstar/Telekom) and with no deep technical knowledge I'm limited in testing around.
But I want to share my experince with batterylife:
My main Palm is running the 1AMD build (rooted, cleaned with your script, wifi off, mobile data off, bluetooth off). The phone is using the 3G Network from Congstar. With minor use (some text messages, 20min calls every 2 days) the battery lasts 4-5 day. without sim card up to 10 days. I am very happy with that.
My second Palm with same settings (rooted, cleaned...) but with 1AMG (latest update via Sugar), sucks off the whole battery in less than 24h.
My third Palm same as the second (rooted, cleaned, with 1AMG, everything off) and no sim card is now at 42% (Phone idle 5d 10h 45m - 4 days left).
Today I downgraded my second palm from 1AMG to 1AMD and it will show if the batterylife is depending on the build and network. I will post the result
Cheers!
I do have mobile on, and whatsapp will be doing some interaction in the background no doubt. I might see about a way to disable mobile while on battery, see if that sorts it.

You need the files from a previous build. I use the Sugar Software and rename the old files with the filename from the update Sugar downloaded. After that just upgrade as discribed in the Root-How-To.
I also tried out to copy the file from EU version on a US-Verizon phone. This is unhappiely not working. After I restored the original build the Wifi and Bluetooth functions not working anymore.

Nothing changed. The battery lost 20% in 2h while the other phone lost 2% in 2h. I don't understand it.

My 1AMD phone (rooted and used your script) is at 85% after 20h. Everything off (wifi, mobile data, location, bluetooth), mobile Network on. Minor use. Just typed some text messages.
My 1AMG phone (rooted and used your script) is at 90% after 16h. Everything off (wifi, mobile data, location, bluetooth), mobile Network on. No usage, just checking state of the battery very few hours.
My third phone downgraded from 1AMG to 1AMD. The one which I crashed with the EU build (wifi and bluetooth dead), running out off battery over night. Everything off, no Sim.
I think the Android and Accubattery etc are totally unreliable. All Android knows are two things
a) the batteries design capacity.
b) the voltage.
c) the condition of the battery as reported by the battery.
Working out 'drain' requires measuring the voltage delta over time and working out a % requires knowing how much system load there was during that time to induce that voltage drop.
So everything said if you've just reinstalled or restarted and so on then the % is fairly meaningless.
The best way is going to be to charge your phone up and time how long until it dies. Assuming the same application load as another phone then the results are comparable.
Palm Support were fairly quick getting back, which is surprising. They said -
"Size: 3.8x34x42mm
Capacity: 800mAh, 5V1A
Type: Lithium-ion
Number of cells: 1
Weight: 11.7g"
So I'm hunting on aliexpress for a replacement battery soon.

Do you have a source? I'm struggling to find anything of the size!
Did you checked out the OEM battery on ebay for the pvg100?
Probably equally knackered. These small batteries have a hard life. But the image does show who they are made by and the quality from new should be excellent as this is a reputable supplier.
I asked Palm support and they said -
"There's not really an equivalent model for the Palm battery; most batteries
either have a different form factor, higher milliamp capacity (and
attendant increased size), or insufficient voltage. Even a few of my
standbys for weird parts (Alibaba, Wish, etc) don't turn up anything
appropriate. My recommendation would be to get a Palm from eBay listed as
"for parts" or otherwise not working."

Hello,
The backside of an original PVG100 battery is labeled 383440, meaning 3.8*34*40 mm.
Searching 103440 on Aliexpress showed the thick batteries you mentioned (10*34*40 mm size ; 1400 mAh capacity). They are dirt cheap, if you want to try them.
Why not a 3D printed back cover ? This would allow for making several prototypes, to improve the shapes (if the first ones do not lock properly into the frame). You could then share your 3D files with the PVG100 owners community, so that anyone could print it or have it printed by a 3D printing company.
Let's dream further : if your "deep" back cover has no bump for the 103440 battery (in other words, if it is flat), the empty space above the battery could be populated by a second battery. A 602540 (6*25*40 mm size ; 600 mAh capacity) or a 603040 (6*30*40 mm size ; 1200 mAh capacity) may fit under the flashlight led.
Another option for the double battery : keep an original battery in its standard location, and add a 604060 battery (6*40*60 mm size ; 1500 mAh capacity) over it, inside a deep 3D printed back cover .
Lots of ideas, but I have no PVG100 (yet ?) and no 3D printer.
It is easier to advise than to do !
Have a nice day !
Cobus.
I have a 3d printer, and maybe I can coerce a mate into laser scanning the rear.
Anyone have a picture with the rear cover off so I can see where the battery lives?
Cheers,
Andrew

I'd like to have a look at the battery, but how did you open the backcase?
I've tried gently without success
It's in a good location. Might be easier to cut a hole out of the rear panel, then 3d print a bump and weld it over the top. I don't fancy my chances getting a perfect rear cover to print.
Palm support are being unusually good at the moment, I'll see if I can sweet talk them into sending over the CAD for the rear cover!

Ta-DAAAA! Here try this! This is the UNBRADED (non-verizon) firmware that I got off of a EU standalone palm.
There are 27 files here, and I renamed them all to the 1AMD version, so that if you are already running 1AMD, you can just trick Sugar to load these pseudo-1AMD files, but they are really the 3C35, which is the only version of firmware that is not commissioned by Verizon. Seems like you still need to disable Google play services, but otherwise the battery life is pretty good. I use aurora services instead of google play, and the battery lasts all day with moderate use, and only loses a couple points over night.
The boot.img file here is pre-rooted with magisk. However, I have not yet run Andrew's debloat script on this firmware yet.

To install, go to Sugar's bin folder, and after first upgrading and downloading the 27 files, simply swap these linked files (they are 3C35, but already renamed 1AMD to trick Sugar) with the files that Sugar automatically downloaded from their server, and click upgrade! Sugar will think that it is just rewriting 1AMD onto your palm, but it will actually be cross-flashing my unbranded firmware, 3C35.
Just a quick note about this firmware, it still has all the Gapps, and if you use Verizon in the U.S. like I do, it seems like the Palm will then auto-install a verizon app upon setup. Just disable it.
Cheers!
I'm going to try this
My script will work fine on it, it'll skip the verizon ones not found, same with the config edits.
