Please Make EFS Backup! - Galaxy Grand 2 General

A Friendly Reminder!
Always make a EFS backup before flashing custom rom!
Go to play store and get a EFS Backup app! Or use Nandroid backup in custom recovery!!!
If you haven't made any, do it now!
Otherwise... you will end up like me... my Grand 2 doesn't have any backup about EFS partition and now the IMEI is null and unknown baseband version... can't make phone calls and sending SMS. Now I had to replace my phone...
Advice: If you don't want to end up like me, make a backup now! Search on Google about this. Before this incident I don't know the importance of EFS.
Hope my 'experience' could help you guys prevent bricking your phone. Dats why I made this thread I know it is not too proper in General section but I MUST inform all my dear friends in xda

Every stock rom comes wtih efs when we flash with odin..

Flash stock rom via Odin doesn't recover the unique IMEI in EFS partition... Only backups can recover it

Samsung GALAXY SIII (i9300) - CyanogenMod Installer

Hello!
I want to change my ROM because TouchWizz UI sucks and my device is lagging... I like CM and I want to flash it on my S3. I want to install it via CM Installer, but I have some questions :
- Does CM have Gapps already installed?
- Should I backup the /EFS folder? And how?
- Give me a way to backup my Stock ROM, if my installation fails, I will go back to it. (A tutorial or smth...)
I know how to install CM via their installer, but I am worried about that EFS thing...and the backup also...
Thanks!

I tried to use the CM installer but it gave me an error, If i where you just flash it through CWM or TWRP its much easier (for me that is)
When i first flashed my I9300 (S3) i never backed up the EFS i just never felt the need but i had been flashing roms for around 2 years, but for a beginer it may be wise to back it up.
Also If you want to backup your stock rom you can create a nandroid backup or just backup your info and if it goes wrong then you can just flash it back to stock 4.3 through odon.
Hope this helped?
Let me know how it went.
Well... I need to backup my /EFS and my current stock ROM. Is there any way to do it without rooting or other complicated things? And also I need to know how to restore that backups if something goes wrong... I will install CM via CM installer as I said earlier.
Check this out.

How do I backup and restore /efs?
There are a few methods to backup /efs, but they all require customisation of your phone. Either root access, or a custom recovery. I appreciate that many of you do not wish to root your phones and just want to flash official ROMs via Odin... Well here are your choices:
Only use OTA or KIES to update (Official Method)
Root using CF auto root / Framaroot - backup efs and THEN flash via ODIN
Flash a custom recovery via Odin, backup efs and THEN flash a ROm via Odin
Risk it. Don't backup efs. Simply flash via Odin and hope for the best
...and here are the options for backing up / restoring efs (this list is not exhaustive)
EFS Pro - App needs root
SGSIII EFS backup / Restore - app runs from Windows / Linux and needs root
kTool - app needs root.
Philz advanced CWM rewcovery - custom recovery can take efs backups using the "Custom Backup" feature.
It's worth noting that some custom ROMs will give the option to backup efs, but you can never have too many backups!
Oops

I forgot to say about Philz recovery amazing recovery i advise anyone to get it but yeah this will work to backup the EFS but you have to be rooted.
If you are rooted you can use Ricky's tool to backup your efs

Meh... I will root the phone with CF Auto root, and then use kTool to backup the EFS. It will create a folder with 2 img files, and I will save that folder on my PC... IS THIS OK?
To backup my stock ROM, what should I do? Give me some ways to do it...

Flash a recovery of your choice...via odin
I prefer philz touch recovery...
Go in recovery and backup your current rom... in backup and restore options to ext SD card so that it remains safe when you flash a new rom after factory reset...
2.. Backup efs by any tool available.. There are many on play store...
K tool, neat efs tool etc...
And same thing... Keep it at some safe place so whenever needed it can be used..
3..of course you could upgrade to 4.4.2 if you like.. But as Samsung hasn't released 4.4.2 for s3 so no Samsung features with 4.4.2 as of now...
But 4.3 us available and it's quite stable...
But before flashing any 4.3 Sammy rom change your modem to any modem which is mg4+... read about that on xda..
Always have a legitimate backup in case anything weird happens...

Follow the guides in general forum, sticky thread. If you don't really know what root means for you then why bother?

[Q] Updating from 4.0.4 to 4.3

Hi everyone,
What would be the general steps to take to update to 4.3 from 4.0.4. I messed up my phone a while back updating (no signal basically, no calls, etc, yeah... my fault for not reading...) so I had to take it to a shop. They downgraded to 4.0.4 and I'm not even sure my IMEI is the same...
Anyways, how can I upgrade and not lose their "fix". I remember reading about backing up my modem, flashing then reflashing my modem. Would that be enough?
Is there any backups that I can do that will create an "image" of the phone that I can safely flash back to in case anything goes wrong?
I currently have SuperSu and I think CWM (but an older version).
Any help would be appreciated!
Backup your efs folder, then make a nandroid of your rom. You will end up with no network after upgrade, try patched modern and kernel but there is no guarantee.
Search and read for the hundreds of other people who did the same thing.

Hmm, alright.
I'll make an EFS back up and the nandroid of my ROM just in case anyways. Thanks.

EFS partition is unique for each phone. You'll need to send it back to Samsung to get repaired.

I'm unsure what the official service center does for this (generate data for your phone and flash or replace motherboard) but that's the only legal and safe way to get it fixed. You can try to flash the factory image and see if it helps but I doubt it will. Should've been more careful flashing stuff and made a backup of your EFS after installing recovery.

it is a big mistake that i didnt make a backup of efs folder :crying::crying::crying::crying:
You can't restore the EFS of others
EFS is the only contains the CERT signature
At the same time, I don't think the flash firmware
can solve the problem of IMEI missing
You need to look for maintenance personnel. 〔This refers not to the samsung company. 〕
Through the repair IMEI to solve this problem
If it is illegal to modify the IMEI in your country
Don 't worry, they can match your the original IMEI
But need to pay attention to, match the IMEI this way there will be a defect Again in the future you can't flash contains firmware of BL documents Otherwise you will continue to lose IMEI because this is a temporary solution
I wish you good luck.
In addition, the "lesson" will give a warning: be sure to backup your EFS file!
