I'm new to the XDA forums and need some guidance. I need a fairly new Verizon based phone that supports screen casting and that can be rooted. I was considering the HTC 10 but saw a thread indicating that it could not be rooted for Verizon phones as of yet because USB debugging was hidden (or something to that effect). So, I thought about the LG V10 but I cannot find any directions or videos relating to the Verizon model. It doesn't have to be any of these models. I could go for a Samsung as well but I heard they are harder to root? I really don't know. Basically, if someone could point me to a VZW phone that is relatively new and that can be rooted with directions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

My how things have changed. After having fun with many iterations of droids (Eris, D2G, Bionic), I had a rude awakening with my recent Razr M purchase. It was already on an OTA which apparently won't allow for the bootloader to be unlocked. I WAS rooted and doing alright with that, but I took the KK update and just like that, no more root. I was mislead into thinking I could root after the OTA, but that was apparently wrong.
I am bound and determined to keep my unlimited data with VZW, but also want a phone that can be rooted and preferably allow for custom ROMs as I have enjoyed in the past. I would like to stay in the mid-2012 and forward range. Does anyone have recommendations on a phone that is conducive to root/bootloader unlock? Apparently VZW has been keeping up with the exploits found by the dev community (thus my razr m frustrations) and fixing them with OTA updates. Does have any recommendations?
I have done my own research and not found a ton. I've been looking for dev edition phones but they are spares and/or expensive. I have heard the HTC One is still quite open, any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Also, if this is not the most appropriate forum for this post, please advise with my apologies.
Sorry for the reply on own post. Is this the wrong board for this post? If so can someone direct me to the proper board?

Noob here! I'm getting ready to try my hand at rooting and unlocking the bootloader on the LG P769 that my friend gave me. I'm somewhat tech savvy, but some of the rooting and unlocking guides are a bit confusing to me. Not too confusing to turn me away though. At any rate, I'm looking for a good ROM to use with my P769 before I root and unlock. From what I've researched so far, the P769 isn't as easy as most other phones. Especially, seeing as mine is running v20H even after a hard reset of the phone. All I've heard so far about rooting and unlocking P76920H is "Damn you LG!" There is one thread I keep coming across (and losing track of because I forget to bookmark it ) with lots of colorful lettering that looks promising to me. Maybe because I'm a noob, maybe because I like colorful shiny things... Who knows, but I think I'm ready to try it if I can find it again.
Back to the subject at hand, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a ROM for my LG P769 US T-Mobile once I get around to rooting and unlocking it. I'd love to be able to just use the v20H firmware with app2sd enabled. Wondering also if any type of Nexus software, preferably 4.4.2? would run on it? I'm sure I'll receive some "Stupid Noob!!" comments, but I'll accept them with gratitude, as I am new to this and studying the ins and outs of how all this rooting and unlocking stuff works. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I've done a little research on official and unofficial ROMs for the P769, but everyone with this phone seems to feel forgotten because there are lots of mods for the other P9 models and the P769 is like an unhatched goose egg. I love the phone, just want to get rid of all the bloatware and enable app2sd support. Perhaps rooting, toying with SuperUser and flashing the app2sd enabling scripts would be my best route? hehe... help! please?
Thanks for reading. Hope I'm posting in the right spot. They said Android questions big and small.
Recommendations on LG P769 ROMs anyone?
I currently have an HTC DNA and will be receiving my new Verizon LG G3 this Friday. My DNA is rooted and running a custom ROM, and I would like to do the same with my G3. Is there a step-by-step guide to the rooting/unlocking process? I was a little surprised this isn't a stickied item. I would also appreciate any feedback on ROMs to run. My primary interest is debloating and wifi hotspot. I also plan to replace the NFC sticker on the phone to allow for wireless charging, but noticed that several of the ROMs don't work with wireless charging, so would likely avoid those.
Would it be better to root the new device before I even go through the activation and setup process, or should I set it up and root it later?

It's pretty simple as long as you are on 10b. If you are not, I don't believe you can root unless you flash back to 10b. I haven't gotten into flashing back yet, so I can't help you there.
A lot of questions can be answered by going to this post -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
Thanks for the link to the FAQ. Guess I should have been looking under the general G3 forum instead of the Verizon specific one.

Yeah, it's kind of confusing if you're not aware of all the different versions of this phone. I thought the RAZR HD (XT926) was bad (XT926 has the RAZR HD with 16gb of memory, and a RAZR MAXX HD with 32 gb of memory), plus there is an XT925 for the GSM models. But man, nothing nowhere near to all the different models of the G3.
I went to the LG G3 forums first, not realizing there was one specific to Verizon phones, but still, a lot of good info over there, That's where I discovered the FAQ section and that helped answer a LOT of my questions.
Glad to be of help.
I was banging my head against the wall. I guess you would have to revert to 10B. I am running VS98512B, so I guess that is long past gone.

No, look in the threads for reverting back to stock. They give links to the appropriate image files (TOT or KDZ) and you can flash back to 10b that way.
Here's one thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140
Hello everyone.
I was recommended to check these forums so I decided to create an account.
I have had my LG V10 for almost three weeks now and I love it. I have the T-Mobile version. I came from iPhone and I always had my phone jailbroken. I wish to root my LG V10 for more freedom and to get rid of those pesky ads.
Can someone link me to a guide that will assist me in rooting my T-Mobile LG V10? I haven't been able to find anything anywhere else. Also, I would love to know what can I do or what are the things that people recommend to do after the phone is rooted.
Again, it is my first time on Android so help me out, please.
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Mrs Ana.

Thanks for that.
I apologize for being new. I clearly do not understand what is being said there lol. I know what rooting is but I don't know how to follow the directions and in what order.
Can you please tell me what I have to do first? If there is a step-by-step guide, that would be awesome. I am trying to root my T-Mobile LG V10.
Thanks and again, sorry. I just do not want to mess it up.
I think you're going to have to do some googling and reading about adb first if you aren't already familiar with it.
I'm no expert. Still running stock here and havent rooted a phone since my original HTC g1 and HTC g2.

Sorry guys, I'm just bad at trying to sort everything out, but you lot have sure been busy posting.
Anyway, I'm seeing a bunch of people complaining that the phone hasn't been rooted yet, the bounty thread and all, but then I'm seeing little bits of off software that require root, like Xposed or that DAC fix (not sure on that one).
Is the V10 rooted or not? Is it only a certain carrier's hardware? Is there an unlocked/developer version I haven't heard of?
Sorry for the clutter!
Only the T-Mobile version is rooted. The DAC fix doesn't require root.

Oh, well, good thing I'm with T-Mobile, then! Thanks!
Also fyi, there's more info on the t-mobile v10 forum section. (since you're t-mobile!)
