Rom Building - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi all. I'd like to try to build a rom (for now just a stock based custom rom). I understand you need coding experience which I don't really have, but I do have a couple of questions.
1. I'd think I would learn best by learning code by building a rom. Is this remotely possible?
2. I would like to do a fresh clean install of windows before I begin the process. Just so I'm sure there aren't any conflicting residual files on my system.
3. How would I go about getting the stock rom off my phone to work with?
I've been reading through xda university a bit, but I didn't find an answer to these questions. Thanks to any dev who could help me get started! [emoji1]

Learn to code. That's the only way. Alternatively you could edit source codes.

[Q] What's the easiest way to Build your own ROM?

I'm just wondering how the Dev's for the I9305 build their roms?
I've got a Virtual Machine running Ubuntu 12.10 with shared folders with my Windows Host and I've installed Kitchen. However I'm at the moment just playing around with the stock UMA3 base. I've just done all the little options including my own boot animation but when I went to Flash the Rom it was aborted.
I'd just like to know what I've been doing wrong and what else I need to read/study up on to build my own ROM for my own personal use. I'd be happy to share if I can get one working, however I'm pretty new at all this. My previous experience was just flashing Recovery's, ROM's, Mods and Rooting. I always just followed instructions though.

It depends what kind of ROM you want to build.
I never did for the sgs3 but if I'm not wrong there are 2 ways:
1st is just with stock ROM you can get on http://opensource.samsung.com/ and modify it at your taste.
Second way: http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html just build it at your taste, don't forget to use sgs3's configurations and use the I9300's kernel to flash it. with this way I just don't know how to keep the original bootloader.
The best is to wait the answer of a real developper and search around the internet before you start that kind of builds.

Thanks for the info and yes I've been looking into that as well and I'm still learning bits and pieces.
I agree about a Developer helping out would be easier, they've already got most of it down anyway.

Help building 1st rom for galaxy light

I wish I knew where to even start. I would like to build cm11 for our device, Which has no rooms built as of yet... We have root, cwm, and twrp and would love to have a custom ROM. It's specs are almost identical to GS3. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. BTW I have never developed before.

I see you have already posted your question here ... on 4th of March and got no answer yet.
Quick search results gave me ...
1. This guide about how to port different ROMs to your device.
2. This guide about how to port AOSP ROMs to your device.
3. This guide about how to port a ROM to your device.
4. This guide about how to create a new ROM for your device.
5. This guide for ROM development beginners.
6. This guide in xda university for building your own android rom.
7. This guide in xda university for porting an aosp rom from source.
There are also instructions on the cyanogen mod wiki site about it.
A good place to ask if you have questions about it or need help, is Chef Central - Android. Many devs are watching this forum and can help quickly.

Any custom roms out there for s4 zoom?.
Ok well I've searched and searched for a custom ROM for this device but cant find anything at all and lets just say my skill as a (n00b)DEV are well......... slow to say the least I'm still reading tons of pages lol.
Has anyone had any luck in finding one or even making one?.
I'm also wondering if maybe i could port a ROM from a s4 mini?, obviously tweaks and changes will be made to make it work I'm not expecting it to run straight away.
nobody has made a custom rom till date and even i can't work on one because my device is in brick state, NO IMEI, NO baseband, so for the time being Im out of the league.
aww that sucks big time, heres hoping you can find a fix for it.
im still reading up and learning but ill keep searching as well maybe somebody will make on someday :fingers-crossed:
btw which model do you have? is it SM C105? if it is can you help me providing a backup file? i will tell you the procedure..
Sorry for late reply, I'm afraid its a sm-c101 that my fiancé has.
Take it you've tried the flashing of stock firmware via Samsung's Kies software ( I've heard it can help sort the issue) very rare cases
If not there's flashing stock firmware via Odin as well but once again slim chance this may help.
I hope you get a solution to your problem soon and if I can help any other way just let me know:thumbup:

The problem with what you are asking is
that if someone did give you a backup of an AT&T C-105a
you would then flash it to your phone and effectively have a duplicate iMEi of the person's phone who provided the backup files.
This in itself is not that big a problem as you could then use kies to reflash to Stock and fix your factory imei partition .
The real problem lies in the fact that not just anyone is going to be comfortable supplying you, or anyone else on the interweb a dd.image backup contain their personal imei info.
This said I wish you all the luck in the world getting your phone back into operation.

Need stupid basic noob help

Hey guys, ive been out of the whole flashing and rooting game for at least 8 months because ive had an S5 and Note 4 on at&t, and with school and summer and everything ive forgotten alot of the process to rooting, etc. I need help because it seems like the process has changed since a year ago, and honestly i just cant find any threads of straight up listed help like there used to be. What i want to do is take my stock unrooted unmodified Nexus 9 and root it, remove the encryption, and flash a custom kernel (if someone could reccomend either the ice kernel or fauxs kernel id be grateful). So, if anyone could kindly list the noob-friendly instructions or direct me to a place where theyre already written, thatd be fantastic.
This is for the n5 but the process is the same. Just use files for the n9 where appropriate. For the first step, installing adb, fastboot, sdk, Google 15 second adb install xda. It's a lot simpler.
