FIXING
It's been awhile since I got to play around with roms, and I have a couple questions. I'm rooted with 5.01.
1. Am I able to flash this from 5.01
2. Is this prerooted or do I have to go through the prices of changing to developer mode and re rooting?

Huzzah! I'll be giving this a go!
I couldn't get it running. It flashed and booted but kept giving me an error that my SIM was removed and it needed to reboot. I let it reboot several times with no change. I took the SIM out and it stopped the error but of course there was no way it was going to work for calls like that. I attempted to flash the beastmode kernel and it wouldn't even flash.

Alright hey guys! I rooted my phone last night and it worked and all that and I got the SuperUser app. But before I go into more detail, I have the Galaxy s3 I737 or whatever it is for at&t. Alright well today I decided that I wanted to put a custom rom on. I downloaded rom manager from the play store and then opened it up and downloaded CM 10.1 build and the GApps for it also. I clicked all of the boxes for it to make a back up and to wipe all that stuff also and then it started loading and all that. After it was done loading, the phone restarted and had the little CM guy on there and it had the CM boot logo thing I guess you would say.? But after that, it said that Setup Wizard has stopped and that the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
This is what I'm talking about.
Sorry for the bad quality but I had to use my ipod to take the pictures
So now what am I suppose to do? I just really hope that I didn't screw up my phone! Please help!
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Update!! I fixed it! I flashed it back to stock and I just wiped all data and all that stuff and it worked!

This thread has a very good toolkit for rooting your s3. I would suggest flashing twrp recovery over clockwork. Then download the rom you want(make sure its for your phone and carrier). And thwn use twrp to flash your rom and/or google apps.

So I basically just have to like re-root my phone again?
Also, did you flash google apps with the rom? Cm does not normally have google apps included they are a separate zip

I think you can just flash twrp recovery with the tool. I only used it once on my friends phone but i believe it has that option. As long as your phone can get to recovery or download mode its not "done". Thats what i would do in this case. Flash twrp recovery with the tool then download a rom to your pc. Transfer to your phone while your in recovery then wipe and flash(just not internal or external sd like my freind did lol). If cm wont flash try a samsung based rom first so you can make a backup before your flash anything else.

this guy had the same problem i am having now. except he was upgrading from 2.3 to ICS. I was on MJ7 and one of my genius stellar friends told me i could odin back to MI1. well i actually did it, so im obviously just as much of a genius as he is. Nonetheless his description of his problem is identical to mine. that said, the solution offered up for him was obviously applicable to the builds he was working with. With knox being present in the MJ7, i believe i may just be screwed. Im stuck on the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." screen even after I reboot. it just reboots on its own to that screen after i turn it off. any advise? Id like to get it to a reasonable sellable state if possible so i can put any money i get out of it towards the nexus 5. Ive also tried all the Kies suggested troubleshooting multiple times as he did.
"Now the phone shows an error "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
When i connect the phone via the cabe, to the computer, using Kies, it gives me error saying "Device not responding. To resolve the issue, reboot the device."
This is how I tried to resolve the issue, but with no success..
I have rebooted a number of times without success
I clicked on 'Troubleshoot connection error' and reinstalled the driver multiple times, but without any success"

You need to follow the guidance in the stock tar NAB thread, and hit the OP of the NABD discussion thread in the general forum for the latest info on migrating from MJ4 to stock NAB...
You will need to simply throw that tar file from the dev forum onto PC Odin, no pit file needed, and just flash it. You'll be stock NAB.
You may want to backup all storage, and factory reset your phone whilst in MJ4, prior to flashing, for good measure, but probably unnecessary. That probably part is why I suggest it.

while this method certainly got me twrp, I am not rooted.
Two things, When I got into recovery I get "Seandroid" in red letters, but it still goes into TWRP.
Also, i flashed a .zip of "SuperSU", is that my problem?
When I boot up phone, Supersu says there is no su binary, and root checker app says not rooted.

I installed Superuser app, did binary update, and it says "checking installed version = 1.61:supersu"

Im on the stock OTA kitkat...should i wait for a better method to root and install recovery or will this do? @micmars whats ur input on this?
I tried updating my rom and my phone will not boot. I cannot get past the samsung splash screen showing me the unlock icon. I have tried installing a different recovery, wiping everything, restoring from a backup from my SD card... no luck. I have been reading on here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30386309 and it kind of sounds like my issue. sometimes when I try wiping and installing a rom, the phone reboots when it has to write data, eg. installing gapps. no matter the gapps package im installing, kit kat or jellybean, the phone will reboot in the middle of the install. it is almost like the R/W is now corrupt. Anyone have any idea?
We need more info than that etc build you are on, and what build you were trying to update to.

Well there are some partial downgrade methods on here which require a few files and Odin again. I haven't done it myself and I've seen some have no issues at all with it and some have had nothing but issues.

ugh. im having the same issue. Installed NC5 today from a clean install on my MK7 phone that was running NC2.
It installed and booted up fine. I installed some apps and rebooted. Now stuck on the Samsung logo with blinking blue led light. Can't get into recovery.
I flashed my phone to a newer version of CM 12.1 that I found here:
http://android.cmphys.com/cyanogenmod-fireball/
it was an attempt to fix an issue with my data network. This build included a patch for the Fireball Radio. A few hours after the flash, I tried making a call. I have a signal but the phone says "Cellular network not available". I've restored a backup of the previous ROM, wiped cache and reseated the SIM. Still having the same problem. The phone is Straight Talk/Verizon using CDMA/LTE. Before I ditch the phone, is there anything else I can try? Would going back to stock ROM change anything? I've not touched baseband, etc unless they are port of the ROM I installed. I like the phone but I also need one that works.
Try returning to stock http://android.cmphys.com/stock-fireball/ or search for the ruu here to see if that helps. And make sure you have the most updated firmware 2.19.605.2.zip

the phone is s-off boot loader unlocked and partition swapped. I know I have to reverse the partition swap. Do I need to relock bootloader, etc or will the stock ROM work after the partitions are swapped back?
Trying to update firmware, I am using these step
Reboot the device to HBOOT: adb reboot-bootloader
Enter the OEM update mode: fastboot oem rebootRUU
Flash the firmware package. cd to the directory containing fireball-firmware-2.19.605.2.zip and run:
fastboot flash zip fireball-firmware-2.19.605.2.zip
Wait for the process to finish
Reboot the phone: fastboot reboot
I get to step 2, and my laptop says it is waiting for device. am I supposed to do anything on the phone or just wait?
Just swapping partitions back should work.

So, were you successful getting your voice connection back?

No. And it doesn't appear I was successful at flashing firmware either. The phone still says I am version 1.5 I tried flashing stock recovery then repeating the firmware flash. I am going to be looking for a new phone today.

I replaced the phone today. I am on call tonight and tomorrow and needed a working phone. I could use a land line but it would be painful. thanks for all the help. I spent some time on the phone last night with Verizon. I'm wondering if either they figured out the phone was unlocked or its just older so they flipped a bit somewhere to keep it from connecting. I could also try a GSM SIM and may keep the phone for if I ever travel international.
Yeah, Verizon is slightly fishy that way, on mine two days before my contract was up my LTE just stopped working. Good luck with the new phone.
