how wifi works on fit 2 - Samsung Gear Fit
I do not get it how wifi connection works. If I lose bluetooth signal then my watch disconnects.
Someone might chine in here, but as far as I know it's this:
You connect your fit2 to your wifi (it has a small virtual keyboard to input the wifi key)
You also have to give the gear app permission to use wifi to transfer notifications (it pops up during setup)
I think the idea is that if you're too far from your phone the fit2 will be able to get notifications across over wifi. I'm not sure if both the phone and fit2 needs to be in the same wifi or if it goes through Sammy's servers, so it works independently..
I've only used it on the same wifi (only tried it today), but it seems to work for me. I got a notification when I believe I was out of bt reach. I have to test it more though to be sure.

Actually, I think it syncs all the Wi-Fi profiles that are stored on your phone, and then connects to the same network as the phone is connected. (?)
I left my phone at home once and went out shopping. The fit2 connected to the free wifi in one of the stores and received notifications from my phone which was kilometers away from me. So the fit2 uses your Samsung account to receive the notifications. No need the phone to be in the same local network. Also the fit2 connected to the store's wifi automatically because it had it synced and remembered from my phone before that.
I lost WiFi connectivity after latest update, I don't get notifications anymore when I am away from my phone...=(
Csn someone tell me how to get this to work. . My gear fit 2 shows connected to wifi but not to my phone. .
I'd love to sync the Fit 2 with my phone over wifi –*S Gear + Bluetooth eat 10% battery in 45 minutes and make my Z5C HOT. I've read that it's possible, but when I try, Gear just stays on "connecting" forever

I am not receiving any notifications through wifi without BT connection. Are there any apps/settings for that?

I am using my Gear Fit2 with my LG V10.
Works fine at my Home Network, and also in the Office WiFi network, as per page 15 of the owners manual
Remote connection
You can remotely connect the Gear to your mobile device when a Bluetooth connection is
not available. With this connection, you can still receive notifications from your mobile device.
On your mobile device, open the Apps screen, tap Samsung Gear → Settings → Gear
connection, and then tap the Remote connection switch.
If both devices are connected to the same network, OPEN Samsung Gear App on your phone, it should tell you its "connected to device remotely".
and I also have BT OFF on my Fit2, so I know its working...=) Check out the Owners Manual, and goto Page 46 - Connections for more info

I confirm that the Wifi works like describe above but my concern is that, if the Wifi is always enabled (with Bluetooth too), then the battery drops much more fast than with the Bluetooth only. That means that the Wifi is not activated only when Bluetooth signal with the smartphone is lost but all the time.... which is not ideal.

It seems to me that the battery on the fit2 lasts longer when connected to bluetooth than with wifi without the phone, but then the battery on the phone drains rather quickly. Either way, you're charging one or the other often.

Now here is the issue, i don't get any notifications on my gear fit 2 although Remote connection is on.
I also want to add that when i disconnect gear fit 2 from Bluetooth the option for remote connection doesn't highlights for me as a result i left with no option but to reconnect via Bluetooth only. Please help & advise

Hi. I am facing the same problem. When I press the remote connection button in the Gear app it shows that it is "requesting" fit around 30 seconds but it doesn't turn on. Tried several tune with no success. Anybody has a solution?

Even I had the same problem. The following steps helped me fix it:
1) Switch off Bluetooth on your Gear Fit 2.
2) Connect it to some WiFi network(if the network is secured, you'll need to enter the network password using on-screen keyboard).
3) Switch on the Bluetooth again on your Gear Fit 2. It should now be connected to your phone.
4) Go to Samsung Gear app on your phone, and log out of your Samsung account.
5) Log in again(Reset the password in case you've forgotten it).
6) You should see the Remote Connection option enabled(try doing it manually, if it is not auto-enabled).
To test:
1) Turn ON the WiFi in your Gear Fit2.
2) Switch off the Bluetooth on your mobile device.
3) Connect your mobile device to a WiFi network.
4) The watch should now be disconnected from Bluetooth, and connected to WiFi(make sure this is the same WiFi which you set up previously).
5) Wait for a few minutes, it should show "Connected remotely" in the notification bar of the Gear Fit 2.

Open the Samsung Gear app, go to "Settings" tab, scroll down and select "Samsung Galaxy Apps". Open the options menu by clicking options on top right corner, then click on Settings. Scroll down and you can find an option to log-in or log out of your Samsung account.

Instead of nevermind maybe telling us what happened and how you resolved would be super cool. I just got my evo lte and it keeps connecting and disconnecting from my wireless router and none of my other devices are having any issues.
My phone sees the SSID of my 5ghz N radio but won't connect. It does connect fine to other radio running n/g at 2.4ghz Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
I am having the same problem with my wifi, it keeps connecting and disconnecting, but it only ses to happen when I browse the internet. Downloading apps and streaming content it stays connected. Any ideas?
I was having a problem connecting to a non-broadcast SSID. The "fix" seemed to be going into wifi settings, select Wifi Frequency Band and put it into 2.4 off of auto. It connected great when I did that and didn't go in and out. I switched back to auto and haven't had a problem since. Might be helpful to some to try.
Wifi is weak for me. Where my laptop can get 1-2 bars, my phone is saying out of range.
ok everyone - click on settings --> wi-fi --> menu (its soft button upper right hand corner) --> advanced then click on "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" and it'll stop trying to auto disconnect / connect spastically trying to save a little battery juice. -- If you have weak wi-fi, then on this advanced screen, check th circle next to "Best Wi-Fi performance" and it'll kick it into high gear. I am shocked at the wifi in this, i can see networks several blocks over i can't even see on my desktop or any other device for that matter. it's just one or no bars, but it sees everything around here.

(I rooted my phone last night) I tried all of the things that you said, and am still having wifi issues. At my home, wifi connected without problem, but was extremely slow. So slow that it wasn't even usable (much slower than 3G!!!). All other devices I tried have no problems (E4GT, iPad, laptop). I tried rebooting several times, with no results. Now I am at school on a different network and it won't even connect (iPad still connects perfectly). Below the wifi network name in settings it goes between "saved" and "connecting". Is anyone else having these same issues?

On previous htc devices if you used this option it caused a wake lock on the device and didnt improve wifi at all.

I have tried toggling all of the WiFi options in every permutation, and I can't seem to maintain a stable WiFi connection.

I was having wifi issues as well when I first got my Evo LTE, all of my other wifi devices in the house were functioning fine and it was really starting to piss me off saying it was out of range and it was right next to it. So just for the heck of it I rebooted my router and it fixed everything. So even if all your other devices are good, it cant hurt to give the router a power cycle.

Click to collapse Yep, did the same thing. Unplugged the router (Motorola Router) and plugged it back in. Everything works perfectly now.

kinda unrelated question - (should i put this in it's own separate topic post??) How do you set wifi priority, so it'll stay on the one i want it to connect to, not the strongest, or first one it saw, etc etc. can i order the 'saved' networks in any kind of priority list?
Has anybody found a fix for this? I have tried rebooting the router and my phone. I tried different routers. I tried a factory reset on the phone. Nothing is fixing it. Is anybody else still having this problem? For those who have fixed it, what did you do? If WiFi works on your network, have you tried additional networks?

Click to collapse Ever since rebooting my router, I haven't had a problem. Have you tried a different network (or did you just change routers on the same network)?
Apparently this is the thread for this issue... Didn't see this when I started the new one. my original text below. ------------------------------------------- Under settings/wifi/advanced, I have "keep wifi on during sleep" set to always. Yet after being off for a while, wifi seems to turn off. That is, upon waking phone from sleep, I can see it reconnecting to wifi, THEN my email is downloaded (k9 set to imap push). This indicates the above setting is not being respected. Under "settings/more/usage/mobile network" is also set to on. This would suggest that even when wifi is not available, 3g/4g would still be used. This also does not seem to be the case. When waking the phone from sleep, I can see it reconnecting to 3g, then immediately connecting to wifi. The goal is to have data enabled, even when the phone is sleeping so email can be received. The old evo 4g had a setting to keep data on even when phone was asleep. Although this fix didn't work on the one x, it appears to be working on the evo during my time testing. The real test will be tonight. If I have wifi in the AM, then this works 100%. this isn't the fix unless its just after low power threshold, the fix is in one X forums, you need root and modify some htc system files through shell
^^Confirmed. Wifi still seems to drop although the wifi icon remains present in the status bar. Looking at the wifi devices connected to the router clearly shows no evo connected . I am rooted, so will have to explore the other fixes in the one x forum or wait for an ota update.

Got my gear s and my note 4. Great devices. So- I have a few questions and can't seem to find answers. 1) when I'm connected via Bluetooth - all my calls from the gear appear to be made via my phone? Correct? 2) If Bluetooth and WiFi is on, and then I turn off Bluetooth on the watch-the two will pair with WiFi and have same situation as #1 above? Which is better? WiFi or Bluetooth if my statement is correct. 3) if I turn off WiFi and Bluetooth.... Can the phone and the watch interact? (via 3g/4g)? Or am I purely on the standalone phone? 4) if I leave the phone home (similar q to #3) I know I can forward my calls so my watch will ring when phone called. Also, the watch will ring when watch called. But- how can I get my text messages from my phone? Is it only possible to get texts sent to watch number? Thanks in advance!

Click to collapse 1) yep 2) yep, or if you wander out of range of bt on phone, but still have wifi connection and phone is still on. BT uses less power, so it's preferred if available. 3) um. yes, basically uses 3G instead of wifi IF phone is still on. 4) as long as phone is on, it's the same as #3 above. If phone is off, then calls (and only calls) get forwarded to watch.

if your connected to bt, and mobile network is on (on watch)... Does mobile network burn battery? Does the process use watches 3-/4g?
You can force the watch to dial using the internal sim always (I have done this) the option is under the call settings on the watch menu. To sync watch and phone when they are separated from WiFi and bluetooth you need to make sure you have enabled the option to sync via your samsung account on the phone in gear manager - not sure if this is ticked by default Regarding battery usage with mobile on - I have my mobile network switched on constantly (turned off the auto on/off function) and set to connect at 2G speeds only. I easily get 24hrs of use with this. The auto on/off function will enable or disable mobile network when required. For 90% of the day I am connected using bluetooth. I have mine set to auto call forward when I am out of bluetooth range.
Bluetooth tethering does not work
Hello there, it's been a long time since I've posted on XDA but I require assistance. I purchased an S6 Edge a few months back and everything is working as should apart from bluetooth tethering. I have tried with my laptop and my nexus 7 which I have installed in my car, both of which worked fine with my previous HTC M8. After setting up tethering on my phone, the other devices connect and the icon appears indicating that tethering is active and an internet connection is available, but I am not able to actually connect to the internet. My Samsung is not rooted, unfortunately, as I don't want to trip 'knox' for warranty purposes. Just to clarify that I am doing everything correctly, I select 'mobile hotspot and tethering' from the settings menu of my S6 Edge, then 'Bluetooth tethering'. This turns on Bluetooth and enables tethering. From my paired devices (Laptop and nexus 7) I select 'Use as internet connection'. The devices connect and the tethering icon appears. No internet connection is available. I imagine this isn't a common issue as after searching I didn't find any threads indicating the same problem. What would be the best way to troubleshoot this? EDIT: I would like to add that Bluetooth file sharing works without problems. EDIT: I would also like to add that my phone is SIM free, and I use the same provider as with my previous HTC M8 that worked fine. My android version is still 5.1.1 as the update is not available in my area yet. Thanks in advance for any help, Rob.
Update: I manually updated my phone to 6.0.1 (without rooting) as I never got the update pushed to my phone. I am still having the same bt tethering issue. My phone says I'm connected and sharing internet with my other device (nexus 7) but that device isn't connected. My s6 is connected fine, it's just not sharing properly. I get the same results with my laptop. Can any body suggest any fixes?? EDIT: If my phone is connected to wifi, it will share that connection. If it is connected to 3g/4g it doesn't share the connection even though the phone itself is connected.
Bump. I suppose nobody is having this problem. Is there any way to debug what is happening?
I am having the same problem. Trying to bluetooth tether my Galaxy s6 edge to Galaxy S2 tab. Both on Android 6.0.1 It appears that the connection is established, but internet does not work on the tablet. Let me know if you had any luck.
Gear Fit black and not syncing health data
Hi. I have a "little" problem with my Gear Fit. If i turn it on, and i pair with my phone, everything is working. But after disconnect, and reconnecting, or after 1-2days, the wallpaper will black, and the health data (steps, pulse, etc.) not syncing, with my S5. And if i restart the Gear Fit, it loses all data. I have restarted my FIT2 a few times, and havent had any data loss..., but I seem to have lost WiFi sync'ing. Both smartphone, and Fit2 are on the same home wifi Network, but I dont seem to get any notifications anymore....

Question Wireless Android Auto Problems
I have a new a car that has Android Auto wireless only and the Duo 2 just will not connect. It connects to Bluetooth so calls etc. are fine but I can't connect to Android Auto at all. I thought it was a car issue initially but I've tried a Samsung phone and that connected no problem. I think it might have something to do with connecting to a WiFi network that doesn't have Internet. The phone keeps disconnecting from it but if anyone has solved this it would be much appreciated! The Duo 2 is fully updated and I can't see anything obvious that's disabled.
