hi there. i have i545 on 5.0.1 rooted. is it possible to install custom/original rooted kitkat rom using flashfire? will lollipop bootloader let it load after flashing modem and kernal from kitkat?
did anyone tried?
I was going to tell you, but I'm frustrated with people who are too lazy to research even the slightest bit.
This not written so you can be lazy and get the answer without working, this is to make it easier for new people to research and find the answer themselves.
DO NOT TRY WHAT THE OP SAID
1st. Flashfire can't flash bootloaders and such only ODIN can for now
2nd. Downgrading even with odin will brick you 100% unless you flashed a safe upgrade from odin(unlikely)
Thank you

Hello,
I am really new to rooting and custom roms. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a tutorial on how to root the S4-i545 on NC5. I don't understand custom recovery, and overall I'm just a really bad noob at this. Could I be linked to an informative tutorial to help me better understand things? Also, if there is a tutorial on how to root the i545 on NC5 that would be fantastic.
I'm really stuck and I've been researching for the past few days and still haven't come across anything helpful..
Thanks!
error 404
I thing it's not available

rooting and custom roms loading are not for the faint of heart. Going to NC5 is fairly complex process and requires alot of patience and alot knowledge concerning odin process as using odin is key part of the inst all of downgrading. I take it your phone is already NC5 and you took the OTA?

Yes. I downloaded the OTA from Verizon for 4.4.2. I've heard many times that a NC5 root is not available, so is there any way you know to downgrade back to 4.3 for root? I understand there is a post by surge on how to upgrade to NC5 and keep root after that, but I can't seem to find a post on how to downgrade back to 4.3

Read the following: from Surge1223.
That will allow you to downgrade to 4.3, root it, then eventually upgrade to 4.4 while retaining root.
You do NOT want to downgrade to 4.3 if you've installed 4.4. The kernel modules for 4.3 won't work unless you run bypasslkm at every boot, which appears to be a challenge for a number of people. Once you've started the NC5 upgrade, you really want to be on 4.4.
If you're still on 4.3 (MK2) and want to upgrade to NC5, I'd recommend using this. It's a lot easier to do, but it only applies if your MK2 system is basically factory stock but rooted (or if you can get it back to stock.)
I've gotten my answer on downgrading, could someone please explain to me what recovery is?

Ha, as a newcomer I can confirm that following Surge's method is not the easiest but I was able to pull it off on the first try. Now currently Using NC5 4.4.2 rooted and running smoothly. I'm going to try to run Hyperdrive's newest release as soon as the rom download is finished.

You may have read this already but... there are a lot of useful noobie links you can find regarding general info in the General section! And by saying this I mean that... I read those couple of weeks back and its nothing from another world. Good luck!

There's three ways you can boot your android device.
First is normal mode. That's the way it nomally boots, running the full operating system.
The second is downloader mode. This mode allows you to flash new software images using ODIN.
The third is recovery mode. Factory recovery allows you to flash updates, wipe the stock ROM, factory reset, etc. A custom recovery allows you to flash arbitrary updates (those which aren't signed by Samsung).
Phones running MDK bootloader can have a custom recovery that allows you to flash nonstandard ROMs.
Past MDK, this requires the use of Safestrap recovery.
Quick question - where would I put necessary files on my SD card? Under which directory?

Sorry I realize how stupid this is going to sound but I thought it was worth a shot asking Anyway. So there is a prerooted stock rom for ND7 which is custom recovery flashable and doesn't touch the bootloader (if im not mistaken). so for those who took the OTA update clearly they have no way to flash a custom recovery do to the locked bootloader and I understand that. But what if I convert the prerooted rom into an odin flashable tar? Any chance I could be onto something or my setting myself up for a brick from hell!!!
a little more info
As ive surpassed 100 views and no response I thought perhaps I'd elabrate a little for people to know exactly what I'm talking about.
I want to make it clear my goal is not to unlock the bootloader, right now I just want root I'm not a master dev and I'm not going to go try to do something i'm incapable of, the reason I'm posting this question is because if there is a dev that would know if this was a good idea or definitely a brick, and/or if there is a soul braver then me to test my theory.
Anyway all that out of the way I think everyone is aware that the ND7 update locked the bootloader. I think they are also aware that towlroot, saferoot, kingo, or vroot all will not work. cf-autoroot will also fail. flashing a recovery is impossible with the locked bootloader.
So here is what my idea is.
In the past I have been able to flash stock roms with Odin so long as they are the same Rom, same version ect.
N3BULA Team made a Pre-Rooted stock ND7 Rom made for people who have not yet updated to nd7. This rom is made for Philz or CWM it is a zip and it is not a tar, and I belive this rom doesn't touch your bootloader though I could of course be wrong.
This is a link to the rom thread I refer to. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765021
rwilco12 Made a very thorough tutorial about how to make an Odin Flashable rom using a linux machine, and I have no issues using linux.
this is the link to the tutorial I am refering too
http://www.rwilco12.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=92
So now my point is if use rwilco12's tutorial to convert n3bula's Pre-Rooted rom into a odin flahable tar and flash it on the 1605 that already has ND7 on it...any chance it will be the root solution everyone is trying to achieve...or is it certain death...If anyone can help please do...I'm not doing this to get any credit..if I ever upload my converted tar all credit would go to team n3bula for making the rom...but all i want is some sort of way to get root on ND7 that's all!!!

Well I can tell you our build does not touch the bootloader but what you are trying to accomplish I do not think is possible. Sad to say, I think this would result in a bad brick..not sure it would be none fixable but why risk it?
I might ask around and follow up with but I do not think that is possible..

Thanks!!! I will try it soon!!! I'm pleased with the feedback on the thread, this wasn't for my phone but for a friend of mine so I'm going to get ahold of him and try this out!!! I'm so happy the devs didn't give up and finally got this thing rooted
Just got this S4 yesterday and have been reading & reading & reading. Let me start by telling you what I have and where I am.
1st I have a SCH-I545 with Android 4.2.2, Baseband RUDMI1
2nd I am using it on AT&T network and have rooted with "root de la vega" method
3rd I have Safestrap Installed and and Nadroid Backup on extSDcard.
I am not a complete newb to samsung as I used to have Note2 Rooted with Rom Flashing exp.
Now for the part I dont understand is what do I need to do to install Hyperdrive RLS17.1 KitKat ROM
to this device. I DOnt see a lot of info on MI1 upgrading or ROM flashing. Mostly MJ7, MK2, MDK & MJ7 stuff.
So does anyone have a quick set of instructions in Upgrading/downgrading my Version to install this ROM
if its even possible. If not where can I find the next best thing. Recomendation on what I should do next.
These threades are just so big I cant keep reading about everything but my RUDMI1
Thanks In Advance.

In order to flash Hyperdrive kitkat, you need to be on the kitkat base firmware, aka NC5. you could do this a couple ways, it sounds like you're rooted and i think someone has a guide on how to upgrade to NC5 without losing safestrap and other things.. although to be honest i would actually flash NC5 through odin.
MI1, as far as i understand, was actually a leaked build (either that or it only got released through Kies, never went OTA). That's why you dont see much discussion on it.
Thanks for the responce and please anybody else you you can jump in and help with a link or short simple "how to" would get me on my way in the right direction of getting this MI1 of this phone.

Flash the no-wipe NC5 ROM image. That will get you to Kit Kat and ready to go.
The directions for this upgrade are already posted in the development forum.
Read first, understand what you're doing, THEN flash.
Hello all!
Sorry, I know this is probably a stupid question, but after reading a few threads, I can't figure out if I can flash custom roms, since I'm running MK2. I know that I can't flash a custom recovery since I'm not running MDK, but past that I'm unsure.
I get the general feeling that I should be able to use Odin to flash a custom rom to my phone, but I'm not sure if that's right, and I don't wanna risk bricking.
I've done plenty of rooting and flashing with my old LG Ally, Pantech Breakout, and HTC Thunderbolt, so I'm sure I can figure out the process if it's possible, but I'd feel a lot better if someone could give me a specific "Yes it's possible" or "Sorry dude, no dice".
Thanks in advance!

You can root & use safe strap recovery. There's a list of roms that work with safestrap. No AOSP roms & no custom kernels except what comes with the rom.
Sorry I know you guys get common stuff like this a lot, and as such I searched for my issue but everything I found lead me to a dead end.
I'm currently using VZW Galaxy S4 (SCH-i545) with build VRUDMI1 and android 4.2.2
I had disabled OTA updates by using a guide about a year ago. I'm needing to unroot my phone and put it back to stock so I can get OTA and move on to 4.4 (I don't know enough about custom roms and flashing to do it without OTA).
From what I read, I need to use odin to flash a tar file while in download mode. Problem is, I don't know which file to get. I've looked at some guides but I can't find a working link for an SCH-545 VRUDMI1 with 4.2.2
Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your time.

Thank you, I did discover that very thread, but the build number doesn't match mine. I wasn't sure if that made any difference and out of fear of bricking my phone, I posted this to make sure. So even though the build isn't what mind presently says, it should be ok?

Yea, this will update and unroot all in one. Like the post said, if that update doesn't work, then grab the NC2 one. It would be best to factory reset as well.
