Retrieving data from soft-bricked S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have a soft-bricked Galaxy S3. I have no idea why it soft-bricked. I was using Google Maps to find a place and put it in my pocket. When I got there and took the phone out, I was greeted with a black screen with the white Galaxy S3 I-9300 logo that wouldn't go away. Tried taking the battery out then putting it back in and powering on: no dice.
I cannot access Recovery Mode with the Volume Up shortcut; the device bootloops. I can only access Download Mode with Volume Down shortcut. Even stranger, plugging the phone into the charger causes the battery icon to appear, then freeze.
Now, most advice I've searched for says to flash firmware or a custom ROM or do a factory reset to get the phone working again. I'm worried about doing this because it will probably delete the data on the phone. I don't really care about the phone anymore having bought a new one; I just want to get the data. Please let me know what I can do to recover it. Again, the phone doesn't matter. If your method requires me to break the phone in half, so be it as long as the data remains intact and I can retrieve it.
Thanks very much for reading!

Flashed kernel to i9210 and screen stays black

Hi, got a galaxy s2 i19210 and using cm-10-20120926-UNOFFICIAL-i9210t
Was having a few random restarts and found that if I tweaked the voltages it would put an end to this. I found I had to use DreamKernel-GTI9210T-v1.7.1CM10-20121010073231-CWM to do this, so I downloaded it and tried to install via the rom manager.
Phone restarted to install, now when it turns on it says the usual 'galaxy s2 i9210' etc, then it usually goes to the blue cyanogen symbol spinning. Unfortunately, it no longer reaches this and the screen stays black. The lights turn on, but screen stays off.
Can't seem to get into download or reset mode with the key combination and sometimes instead of turning off the phone restarts which makes trying the key combinations a bit harder.
Have tried removing and replacing the battery but that didn't help either.
HOWEVER!
My computer recognises the phone although I can't access the hdd because the phone is locked
Odin recognises the phone
So, what options do I have to get my phone working again?
I've looked at a few threads and googled a bit but haven't found anything substantial
To clarify it's a Galaxy S2 i9210T 4G Australian Telstra phone
So I finally got into odin mode and cleared the dalvik cache and did a factory reset. Installed latest i9210 firmware via download mode and odin and everything is working again. Unfortunately I lost all my data but i'd prefer that than a brick. Still doesn't explain what happened in the first place though, did I use the wrong kernel or go about the install the wrong way? I'd like to go back to cm10 but fix the random resets.
You're more likely to get an answer here. Almost everyone here has an I9100/I9100T.

[Q] Attempted OS Install, Cannot Get Into Recovery Mode

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SCH-R760.
What happened: Tried to update phone from standard IceCreamSandwich to Jelly Bean via Samsung provided SimpleUpgradeTool. Very new to flashing phones, forgot to check model number, first attempt failed. Eventually got the right one (difficult to do with my model apparently), and the mobile network wouldn't work. Was told to reset APN, could not find it anywhere in the system.
Got fed up and decided to revert back to original OS, which failed. Waited overnight (it was late) with the phone off. Found the right file (just going to go back to Jelly Bean), however whenever I attempted to get into recovery mode it told me there was not enough power and to charge the phone. Phone was plugged in, this happened a couple of times. Now after the phone has been plugged in for well over 3 hours I cannot get the phone to power on or anything, it absolutely will not respond. Attempted to use Kies, will not recognize my phone model and is waiting for the phone to be connected anyway. When plugged in (trying/using various different cords) I have a little faint blue light flashing in the top left corner of the phone (not the phone screen).
The phone has been in excellent condition up until this point, and I have little reason to believe that my battery just suddenly went 100% bad after showing no signs of decay in recent weeks. Any suggestions?
How did you try to revert? But kind of sounds like it might be hard bricked. If you can't get get into Download mode by Vol Down and Power and it isn't charging not even sure if this would work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/ref-usb-jig-faq-frequently-questions-t1402286
But unless you try another battery or something like that jig, and it does not power up to any screen, then your only hope would be a JTAG service. I recommend these guys:

Just tried to use the samsung quicktool program and just install the old OS back onto the phone.

I'm not familiar with the QuickTool. Why not use Odin? It's the preferred method for most popular Samsung phones.

I broke my Galaxy S4 - bricked

Hey - I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Verizon. I was trying to root and unlock it. I messed it up really horribly.
I just want to put it back to factory. Sigh.
I put it into download mode - volume down + power + home. My PC won't even recognize it.(Odin)
When I start the phone normally, I get the Verizon tone, but nothing on the screen.
If I boot into recover mode, I get the message about firmware problem detected. So, I can't even factory reset it from there.
I'm not looking for you to fix my issue, I'll do that myself.
I just want to set everything back to default.
What would be my best bet to start?
Well you should try a different cable and computer
Reset
I think at this point, I want to put this phone back to factory defaults. If I can get to that, I can at least have a common starting point if I bugger it up again.
I'm sure there is a post somewhere in here about getting a 'bricked' Galaxy S4 Verizown back to stock.
Can someone point me to that?
Thanks much!
G
If it gets into download mode try a different cable or try to re install the drivers for the phone and see if odin detects it.
Thanks
I will try that - thanks for the suggestion.

Lenovo s860 Bricked? How to flash ROM

Hi guys, sorry if I posted this at the wrong place.
I have a Lenovo s860 and it went into a bootloop. It was stock and all so I thought that I can have my files recovered if I just bring it to a service center so they can get the files first before wiping it or maybe even fixing the bootloop without wiping the device. Well, the thing is, the guy at the service center screwed up and now, when I try to turn it on, I still see the boot screen (Lenovo, powered by Android) but the next screen is like an television with bad signal.
I'm familiar with rooting and flashing ROMs, I've tried it on my Galaxy S2 (yeah I know, it was way back), but I think things are still more or less the same: I need to be able to boot into recovery mode in order to root the device. However, when I tried the Power Button + Volume Up, or any combinations of the Power Button and the Volume Buttons, it just goes straight to the dead screen, I get no response whatsoever.
I also tried to check if adb can detect it, however, it didn't seem to be able to do so. I'm using a MacBook Pro so I know I don't have to install any drivers, I also code Android Apps so I have a background on this.
I think my only option would be to flash the ROM on this dead device but I don't know how to do that. I've also seen some posts that suggest doing some things (I forgot the specifics) while the battery is drained, so what I'm doing for the mean time is to leave the phone open and let it drain which might take ~2 days.
Does anyone know how to flash a ROM on a bricked device? Thanks for any leads.

Verizon S9+ Bootlooping Stuck, Trying Not To Erase All Data HELP

Hey, so I woke up today to my phone at a recovery screen (I'm not very familiar with any of this stuff) and it said to reboot, so I did. Since then, it has been stuck in a never ending loop of restarting. I was able to turn the phone completely off, but since starting to tinker in it within the past few hours it won't stay off. Currently I am at some screen where I attempted to follow this video to load some firmware, but I couldn't find the firmware I needed to download as I have no clue what model number or current software version I need. Is this the right step to take to get access back into my phone? I just wanted to save some of my pictures and videos that I don't have saved elsewhere and then factory reset my phone. basically, I've only felt comfortable clearing the cache partition to see if that would work. My problems seem almost the exact same as this thread on this forum. Any help is greatly appreciated. Is there any way to access these files? I looked it up and it said to use Samsung Smart Switch, but I didn't have that on my phone and there is not enough time I have in my phone to download or uninstall any app before it enters the restart loop.
