G3 Fastboot Issue/Cannot format laf partition - Sprint LG G3

Hello All,
I am currently trying to flash TWRP onto my phone, and booting into the Operating system is not possible at this point. I can get the phone into download mode and stock recovery (The phone has never been rooted or flashed, it is bone stock). I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get TWRP flashed onto the phone with either download mode OR ADB commands via the stock recovery. I cannot figure out how to successfully format the LAF partition to access fastboot. Can anyone provide some assistance? I will paypal you money if necessary. I need this phone up and running ASAP. Please help!

The BEST way to do it is to flashtool zv4. Root and unlock it.
As for rooting zva-e, there are procedures linked in the thread. Unlocking the boot loader are there too, I believe. Doing it this way may cause issues. So I all depends how much work you want to go through.
Personally, just use ZV4, root/unlock. Then flash modem and whatever ROM you want.

Hey engine,
I did use flashtool to restore to ZV4, but it will not boot into the OS and just keeps powering itself off at either of the LG bootup screens

And that's just stock? Straight from flashtool? That shouldn't happen unless you wiped something out trying to do the laf partition.
Are you sure you have the Sprint 990?.
There's other threads here, one is stickied in "General", that you might need to read then. They're about fixing other issues that might feel you.

I appriciate your help! Yes, the phone restores just fine using flashtool with the ZV4 .tot file, but once it reboots it wont make it past the LG logo bootup screen. One time it made it all the way into the OS, and went through the activation process, then powered itself off. Now it wont reboot past the second animated LG logo.

I should also mention that sometimes when restoring the .tot with Flash Tool, it powers itself off in the middle of it and just keeps booting into download mode. It always happens anywhere between 30-60% when it says SYSTEM in the progress log. Could it be that my phones internal memory that stores that information is bad?

May have a new one/can't believe I did this.

Well I may have truly found out how to brick this phone. First what you want to do is unlock the bootloader, then flash a recovery. Next you want to gain SU on the phone and root. If your their and you want to brick your phone you will need to do the following steps.
1. Forget to create a restore
2. Flash the google nexus 4.3 to the phone
3. realize it in a boot loop
4. format data on the phone (yeah that's right...I wiped everything)
5. sit back and admire your work.
Any ideas?

Can you get into recovery?
There is a way to adb a rom file onto the phone using twrp as long as you can get into recovery and the pc recognizes the phone....if no recovery though I don't know.. would have to be able to get into fastboot and flash twrp.

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried to side losd a rom but either I'm doing it wrong or it just won't work. I keep getting errors. I can reboot the phone from ADB on the computer but I can't seem to move any information across...Heck I can even lock and unlock the bootloader but not side load.
Did you try this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42426459

Oh, i feel your pain, Just "soft" bricked my phone. Lucky it has plenty of juice and i was still able to get to booloader. Somewhat of an easy fix. But boy did my heart start pumping.
When you reboot, what does it do? Just sit there on the HTC screen, not light up at all, or something else?
I only ask because I thought I borked mine today going from the OTA, to .12, to S-OFF, the accidentally making it ENG S-OFF, and then the screen not lighting up when I'd try to do anything.
But I was able to get the silver HTC screen to pop up and flash the 4.1.2 RUU to go to WWE 4.2.2.

Error mounting /data in recovery

I flashed a 5.0 rom this morning and everything was going fine for an hour or so then I pulled my phone out of my pocket and it was on a kernel panic screen. I rebooted and it wouldn't get past the rom splash screen. I tried a factory reset but it failed. Tried restoring a nandroid and it failed. TWRP is throwing up errors left and right saying it can't mount /data or /cache. I have tried 2 different methods on here for factory resetting my phone to no avail.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Okay. Your going to lose everything on your SD most likely. Don't panic. Go to Verizon g3 general folder on here and then look for a guide: KDZ method by annoyingduck

There is nothing on the phone that I mind losing but the kdz method isn't working. It goes through and says success but the phone reboots in the process and hangs on the 5.0 rom's splash screen.
fwiw the .tot method didn't work either. It errors out 11 seconds in.
I've had problems with getting stuck on the splash screen with 5.0 and nandroids don't seem to work. I've tried everything. Maybe try holding down volume down and then power until recovery shows up. Try wiping cache in that recovery

Shoot man. I'm sorry out of ideas. Good luck and let me know if you get it recovered!
Same thing happened to me. You will need to flash a stock KDZ with the LG Flash Tool. Are you able to get your phone into download mode? I recommend searching and downloading 10B as I did. That way, you can re-root with Stump and Flashify to get your custom recovery back.

[Q] Stuck on Custom ROM with no root and no Custom Recovery

Prologue: I myself own a Sprint G3, and I'm rooted and running Bumpd TWRP just fine. I'm running the unofficial Sprint CyanogenMod 12 and all is well.
The Problem: My friend asked me to do the same to his Verizon G3, so I downgraded his G3 to 10b so that I could stump root it using a .kfz I think, I forget the exact file name. Well any who, that went well and then Stump Root worked, but it had to use bruteforce mode (My Sprint Variant didn't require BruteForce) but it worked so I wasn't very concerned. Then I used Flashify to flash the Bumpd TWRP to his G3. That went well too, I rebooted into TWRP immediately after flashing it and while in TWRP I pushed the CyanogenMod 12 .zip and the Lollipop PA GAPPS to his phone. I totally forgot to push su. That was my big mistake. So I flashed CM12 and GAPPS still not knowing that I forgot to root too by flashing su. It booted and the phone runs great on CM 12, but I do need to be able to flash him back to stock and he does need root.
This is where I need help: I've tried Stump Root and Towel root, and I've attempted to push su, but the binaries won't install of course because it isn't rooted. So my friend has a G3 running basically a stock version of CyanogenMod 12 with no root and no custom recovery. Is there any way I can install root and custom recovery without losing CM? I know I can just flash the stock if need be, but I'm curious if there's any way I can fix it without all those drastic measures.
Recovery is gone? What do you see when you try to get into it? Also, you can enable root in developer options or security I think.

This is how the Verizon g3 is. When you boot I to recovery it will always show stock recovery. Scroll down to factory reset and hit yes. Then if it really is bumped it will boot into twrp

Yes, when you try to enter recovery using the button combo. Otherwise it goes straight to recovery.
if you download quick boot you don't have to deal with the buttons.

[Q] Custom Recovery On 5.0.1?

You will need to downgrade to install a custom recovery (TWRP).
you can then flash a 23C ROM.
There is no was as far as I know to directly install a custom recovery on 23C.
You will need to search for the TOT or KDZ method to roll back.

Yes, downgrade through TOT.
Then root, then install TWRP (Special bumped version).
Then all you need to do is go over to the dev secions and pick the ROM you like.
I've been using Jasmine.

just fyi,
you can directly install twrp on stock L. however, we discourage it because if things dont go right its a pain to fix, and if things go really wrong (rare but happens), you can have a permanent brick.
its not that difficult, and requires the use of dd code, but as i said, not for the casual flasher imo.

I wouldn't say that I'm a casual flasher under other circumstances, but since I just got this phone I'm working on learning its quirks I want to keep it simple as possible. I downgraded to 10B, rooted, flashed TWRP, made a nandroid, and flashed JasmineROM. Now I'm just working on applying my own personal touches.
Edit: I also read up on that method and it had been confirmed to work on VS985 but with some modifications so I steered clear of that. I'll try anything once I have a custom recovery and nandroids, otherwise I'm shy AF when it comes to trying stuff out on my main phone.

[Q] Having issues rooting Note 3.

I am unsure if I bricked my Sprint Note 3, but I tried to roo it with Chain Fire and odin, using Qbking77's YouTube video as a guide. But after the root was complete, 60% of my apps were gone, I can't using any google powered apps, and I can't go into the phones settings. Everything force closes. Honestly, I'm just trying to do a proper root so I can use Cyanogen Mod. Can someone help me revert to before I rooted, and explain the process to get cyanogen?
I followed the instructions provided, and downloaded
SM-N900P (Sprint): CF-Auto-Root-hltespr-hltespr-smn900p.zip
Followed the further stated instructions, open odin, and I cannot insert the MD5 file into odin. I was able to before, and now I cannot. Earlier I was able to do so, and as stated above, after I did it several apps disappeared, google play services no longer works, supersu is on the phone, and I cannot access the phones settings. The only thing I can do is use the stock browser. I am asking what to do/what I did wrong/how to fix it/or how to continue. If these questions cant be answered, how do I revert back to stock?

The TWRP file in that post downloads as .img, and when I change it to .tar it becomes unusable and odin marks it as a fail. This has been the issue for me throughout this entire root process. People to me "Download this" and it either
1. Doesn't work
2. Gets to 100% extraction then fails
3. Odin wont let me insert the file.
I know its not me doing anything wrong. Right now, my phone boots to the sprint logo, and nothing past it. I can go into download mode and that's about it. I just need help and the proper instructions to either put it back to stock, or do a proper root. I rooted a Galaxy S2 years ago, and several other phones between now and then, and got it on the first try. This process with the Note 3 has been very frustrating, and I've been without my phone for 4 days. So if you, or anyone else knows the DETAILED steps I need to take, please help.
I did what you said with the NK4 thing, and like I said above, it would get to 100% extraction then fail. I got it from the sammobile site, and they wouldnt even let me redownload it. And I dont know what OTA is.

If you're not getting a boot then you need to restart.
1)Get the tar for nk4.
2)Odin the nk4 (but get to download mode by pulling the battery then boot to download mode).
3) After a successful odin of nk4, you should be official. If not, boot to recovery, wipe data, then odin again (battery pull)
4) If going to oc5, take the ota. Or go to next step.
5) after ota (or not) now we root. Provided you don't care about knox, the best way is to get the twrp img from their site. Flash that with odin (battery pull).
6) download a supersu.zip to flash from twrp, and flash it.
I can't link these files right now, but it's easy to find them. If you need links later, I can help in an hour or so.
And ota is over the air, when you get a notification for an update

I can very thankfully say that md5 file downloaded and is installing without a problem.

EDIT: Both NK4 and TWRP are installed but still cant get by sprint logo. Is this normal?

Boot to recovery, wipe data, and try booting. If that didn't do out, wipe data again then pull battery, boot to download mode, and odin nk4 again. Those files are the ones I have used so...yeah...lol.

Well, if you have custom recovery and don't want ota, flash supersu.
If you want ota you gotta redo the nk4 steps and then take ota, but do not install twrp once you odin

Oc5 is lollipop. Major upgrade to Android. However, many things, like xposed, aren't working yet. Your call man.

Well, ota sounds like it will be helpful. And the version of Cyanogen I want required lollipop. So walk through me through I guess. Everything has gone well so far haha

Ha! It's all in learning man. That and finding downloads. If you decide you want ota, just re-odin nk4 (after a factory reset, and use battery pull for download mode), take the ota, re-odin twrp, reboot to twrp and flash supersu.zip. Pretty easy.
