Hey I can't seem to find a definitive guide for getting CWM/TWRP on the Verizon G3 on 5.0.1 (23C), is it possible? If so, can someone link me to a guide please? Thanks!

You will need to downgrade to install a custom recovery (TWRP).
you can then flash a 23C ROM.
There is no was as far as I know to directly install a custom recovery on 23C.
You will need to search for the TOT or KDZ method to roll back.

Awesome thank you! I had a G2 for a long time so I'm familiar with downgrading via TOT (I even wrote a tutorial on it, it's in my signature). I will downgrade, flash TWRP, then I can flash the update file through TWRP?

Yes, downgrade through TOT.
Then root, then install TWRP (Special bumped version).
Then all you need to do is go over to the dev secions and pick the ROM you like.
I've been using Jasmine.

just fyi,
you can directly install twrp on stock L. however, we discourage it because if things dont go right its a pain to fix, and if things go really wrong (rare but happens), you can have a permanent brick.
its not that difficult, and requires the use of dd code, but as i said, not for the casual flasher imo.

I wouldn't say that I'm a casual flasher under other circumstances, but since I just got this phone I'm working on learning its quirks I want to keep it simple as possible. I downgraded to 10B, rooted, flashed TWRP, made a nandroid, and flashed JasmineROM. Now I'm just working on applying my own personal touches.
Edit: I also read up on that method and it had been confirmed to work on VS985 but with some modifications so I steered clear of that. I'll try anything once I have a custom recovery and nandroids, otherwise I'm shy AF when it comes to trying stuff out on my main phone.

Yep, I've managed to screw up trying to do it every single time no matter how careful I think I'm being. I was -> <- this close to being hard bricked the other day in my most recent attempt, but I figured out how to get back to normal. I didn't have Download mode or custom recovery, only booting system. Amen to that, brother! I'm so used to copy-paste and in general keyboard shortcuts from all my years of various computer-related work that it drives me nuts when others don't do so at work and I end up being given second or third-hand information that's actually managed to be changed from the accurate original data just that quickly.

Hello everyone, tonight I attempted to install Cyanogenmod 10.2 onto my phone, and now I have a bit of a problem. When I made my nandroid backup, I think it went onto my internal storage, and was deleted when I did a factory reset. I wasn't really aware of this, and had to go into recovery and set up the phone multiple times (the rom didn't ever seem to take), and now when I power up my phone, I get the stock recovery mode, with it saying "Could not do normal boot" and "ODIN MODE" on the next line. Is there anything I can do to salvage my poor phone? I realize that I screwed up majorly with the nandroid backup, but hopefully there's something that can be done.
Thanks for your help, regardless of the outcome.

Yep. That seemed to work, I'm back in the OS. Now, what would be the best way to install CM 10.2? I've installed safestrap but I don't really want to go further unless I'm sure of what I'm doing, and google/youtube haven't been very helpful
EDIT: it seems that installing it is impossible since I'm on the mk2 broadband. Oh well. I'll just wait for someone to break the restrictions

I'm getting a VERY persistent software upgrade on my phone now from Verizon apparently pushing Kit Kat.
I'm rooted, no other mods but debloating and G2 Xposed and other apps.
Can I take this update? Will it wipe my phone? Would I have to reroot? I tried a quick search but I'm pressed for time and didn't see anything jumping out at me that answers my questions.

I did the OTA kitkat today and bricked my phone and it was stock rooted. I am not sure if its just because it was rooted or because several things were disabled. My phone would only show LG logo and nothing else and turn off but still glow. I went to verizon and they troubleshooted it and could not get it to hard reset or anything. They are sending me a new phone under warranty. Sucks being without my G2 so unless you want to be like the rest of us dont do it.

Mine won't let me in. Every time I try to get into software update it brings up that damn Kit Kat push window.
I was rooted and turned off the software upgrade with TiBu. I decided to take the KK OTA, so I went back to stock with the LF flash tool, then took both OTAs. After the KK OTA finished, I rooted it with IOroot25 and loaded a recovery with Micromods "Freedom" mod.

I can't stand that persistent update. I went to "knock on" my phone earlier tonight at work, wasn't looking at the screen, and tapped the Install Now accidentally haha went into a TWRP boot loop, but I just entered the terminal command code in TWRP (from a post I found on here) and I'm back in business. I'm definitely gonna use Titanium Pro like you did if those updates start up again though

I'm rooted but I have custom recovery on mine (TWRP) and it was Hell... HELL! It took me 7 hours throughout the whole night to recover it, it was going back to TWRP every single time. But searching here in this fine website paid off! I'm not going to touch any OTA until I know more on how to prevent that again.
I had a similar experience when I upgraded to KitKat. Lost so much including pictures and videos that couldn't be replaced or recovered. Took hours just to get my phone working again. Never want to go through that again!

i recently rooted my Galaxy S4 verizon SCH-I545 5.0.1 My main reason for doing so is because i want to install CM12 (to improve battery and no bloatware) but need to back up my stock ROM before wiping anything, so i can restore if anything gets messed up but when i installed CWM via ROM manager app , i booted in recovery only to discover that i didn't have the option to back up my stock ROM...nothing that says "back up and restore" or anything remotely close...so after alot of reading a searching it looks like TWRP was the one that most suggested for my phone. My question is, can i just use Flashify and flash TWRP over the existing CWM?? will this mess anything up or brick my phone??? please help and excuse my ignorance

I did want to mention if you're really new that I'd be careful with the apps. Generally it's not good to uninstall or delete system apps and sometimes Google apps are the same way. A lot of times but not always, you can freeze those and be alright, other times it'll make your phone go crazy so I'd check out the posts on the safe apps to freeze. Another good thing about freezing them is if you have any issue, just unfreeze those.

sorry mate, can't do cwm or twrp or cm.
Of1 rooted, roll back to MDK?
I have vzw s4 rooted with odin on OF1 and took the 5.0.1 OTA update. Is it possible to rollback to MDK or earlier version of Android so i can install TWRP or CWM, to be able to flash whatever custom rom i choose? Like do i need to downgrade say to 4.3 so i can upgrade to 6.0 cm13? If this is at all possible which android should i downgrade to?
Similar question here. I have a Verizon S4 (SCH-I545) and am on OF1. I just did a full factory restore using the recovery assistant software, I did not get an option of a version. From what I have been reading, it sounds like there is no way to get back to an earlier version, is that really true? I find it very hard to find current information, most of what I dig up seems to be dated. I just rooted the phone. All I really want is to install the AOSP ROM. I don't care what hoops I have to jump through, if only there is a path! I have tried Odin but keep getting an error that again I have not found any useful info on.

I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get TWRP flashed onto the phone with either download mode OR ADB commands via the stock recovery. I cannot figure out how to successfully format the LAF partition to access fastboot. Can anyone provide some assistance? I will paypal you money if necessary. I need this phone up and running ASAP. Please help!

This is your option. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55225699 The links are all there.
You MUST have a "Bumped" TWRP.

The BEST way to do it is to flashtool zv4. Root and unlock it.
As for rooting zva-e, there are procedures linked in the thread. Unlocking the boot loader are there too, I believe. Doing it this way may cause issues. So I all depends how much work you want to go through.
Personally, just use ZV4, root/unlock. Then flash modem and whatever ROM you want.

Hey engine,
I did use flashtool to restore to ZV4, but it will not boot into the OS and just keeps powering itself off at either of the LG bootup screens

And that's just stock? Straight from flashtool? That shouldn't happen unless you wiped something out trying to do the laf partition.
Are you sure you have the Sprint 990?.
There's other threads here, one is stickied in "General", that you might need to read then. They're about fixing other issues that might feel you.

I appriciate your help! Yes, the phone restores just fine using flashtool with the ZV4 .tot file, but once it reboots it wont make it past the LG logo bootup screen. One time it made it all the way into the OS, and went through the activation process, then powered itself off. Now it wont reboot past the second animated LG logo.

I should also mention that sometimes when restoring the .tot with Flash Tool, it powers itself off in the middle of it and just keeps booting into download mode. It always happens anywhere between 30-60% when it says SYSTEM in the progress log. Could it be that my phones internal memory that stores that information is bad?
