How to wipe Cache and Dalvik with atock recovery - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi,I bought my friend a Redmi Note 3 MTK.
His device has various problems like app force closes, fingerprint sometimes doesn't work etc.
Then i told him to download the stock rom and flash it with updater.
He did as i said.
His phone still has problems like force close, hanging and others.
I had such problem with another phone and i solved them with simple cache and dalvik wipe.
But now here in rn3,the stock recovery seems to be dumb and it doesn't do anything without the PC suite.
Now i need a way to flash the stock rom again with a full wipe of data, cache and dalvik.
What are my options?
I don't want to unlock the bootloader.as he will be mad at me for breaking Warrenty.

not sure about cache, think you can do it with adb. nonetheless, you could also try flashing the fastboot rom. not sure what the procedure for mtk version is though.

Reverting OnePlus X to stock?

Hi all, I'm new to the whole Android modding thing...
I purchased a used OnePlus X today. It wasn't until I got home when I started playing around with it, and doing some research that it appears to be rooted with a TWRP custom recovery and a blu spark custom rom...
I'm not a power user/modder, so I really just want it to be completely stock as if I bought it brand new from OnePlus. Could someone please help me return it to the official stock rom that receives OTA updates and has the stock recovery?
I Googled and searched forums but wasn't able to get any clear answers. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

As the device seems to have twrp, Just download and flash full stock zip
The last 2.1.3-X can be found here
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087013219
Reboot to recovery
Wipe dalvik system data and cache
Select download Rom and flash
Reboot system
TWRP may prompt to flash supersu, do not root
Done u would be able to get and install all future ota's

If you wipe data/factory reset , you wipe cache also. There is no need to wipe cache therefore no need to wipe dalvik neither. Most of the zips wipes /system. Cheers

Thanks a lot, guys. Once the rom is downloaded, should I mount it to internal or external memory to flash? Or does it not matter?

It doesn't really matter, but I'd recommend you put it on the internal storage.
Hey thanks a lot everyone! It really wasn't very hard
To install OTAs, you will have to flash Stock Recovery also, as TWRP will fail to install OTAs.
However, you can manually download and flash the updates using TWRP.
Vl stay on stock till official Cm arrives...

I have the same issue. i tried to reflashing and factory reset but the problem is not solved.
did you got the solution ?
I think it's charging. Only that the battery indicator for charging is not shown. Your LED might be lighting up when you plug it. If that's it then you need to change the firmware.

You don't need to be in MIUI too.
Can do it in any ROM. Specifically for custom ROMs it is.
Heres how to flash:
Wipe systen,data, cache and dalvik.
Flash the firmware.
Flash ROM and anything else you like to flash then reboot.

Wait. Have you flashed a ROM before?? And wiping system, data, dalvik and cache won't wipe internal storage. So keep the firmware in internal storage and keep a ROM too.
Only then wipe this things and go ahead.
Do not wipe internal storage.

yes i have flashed my ROM before with fastboot via mi flash. And i losed all my data.
so wipe this things up won't erase my data ?
and one again. i can do flashing this firmware with xiomi recovery right (hold power button and vol up) ? and i just have to rename that firmware with update.zip ?
please guide me. thanks
No bungxsan don't do that. You are not supposed to flash it with miui recovery neither with mi flash tool.
You need to have twrp or any custom recovery.
And also you need to flash a ROM from Twrp after flashing this. If you don't know how that's done then please go checkout how to flash twrp and a cuatom ROM, only aftwr that flash this firmware.
Bdw if you are in stock ROM you might not have faced this problem.
I am saying again, if you don't know how to flash from a custom recovery then don't go ahead.

@bungxsan Do the following steps.
1.Download a custom ROM and gapps and copy them in your internal storage.
2.Go to twrp, wipe data, dalvik, cache and system.
3.Install the firmware.
4.Install rom and gapps.
5.Reboot

factory reset / hard reset / twrp full wipe

Hi guys, i was wondering what are the differences between doing a factory reset, hard reset or doing a full wipe (data, cache, dalvik cache, system and internal storage) with twrp.
I want to restore my phone like it was when i bought and opened in the box. Then i will flash a custom rom (i have twrp installed). There are different terminology used to perform similar/same actions regarding this.
Considering that after the restore i will install another rom different than the original one, should i do just a full wipe with twrp, or a factory reset/hard reset will erase better the files in my phone? Are these same actions?
Should you tell me what action is the best in my case?
- Factory reset means it turns the device like when you actually bought it
- Hard reset means using power key combinations to reset device , Factory reset & hard reset is the same it can also be done using on screen commands
- TWRP full wipe means it wipes everything even the system , that means even Android skin is wiped which leaves your device with just Recovery & nothing installed
Conclusion - TWRP wipe for flashing every new ROM , if you're flashing just update of same ROM don't wipe anything directly flash zip file & Gapps

Thanks! Another question : we said that factory reset restores the original android system and this is basically the only difference against a full wipe. Ok, but is there a difference between wiping partitions with twrp and performing a factory reset? is wiping different from erasing with factory reset? does factory reset erase better the files than the twrp's wipes? or are these exactly same things?

In TWRP if you uncheck system & wipe the rest ie - data , cache , dalvik cache , internet storage that's equivalent to Factory reset , but if you have a custom ROM & want to get back to Miui there's a different procedure let me know if you wanna do that [emoji106]

Ok,that's fine I already reverted back to miui from Nitrogen os using zcx twrp, because battery life didn't convince me and I have more confidence with the stock miui camera. Now I only want to clean my phone because I installed much things which I currently not use. I will stay to miui 8.2.2 global stable which is different from the miui global developer which is the native version of my phone =)

Hello. I have a Note 5 that I just bought and tried to root. But I screwed it up and managed only to install TWRP, without root. Now the phone only goes into loop mode. But I have TWRP 3.1.1., apparently with all the TWRP buttons working (including adb sideload, terminal, file manager) The question is, how can I restore the phone to factory reset? I cant seem to get to the option that wipes the data and does a hard reset. I can delete the system but what good does that do me if I can;'t get a working system
I was on Android 7.0, Nougat.
Thanks in advance!

Okay first try factory reset in Twrp or wipe everything except system ( both are same ) If this fails ...
Search for custom ROMs for Note 5 or Simply flash Lineage OS if it's available for your device .
Device must be able to boot now & If this fails ....
Flash stock firmware , this requires PC & everything will be reset replaced with stock recovery & ROM

Its not a hard brick, its a soft brick.
You need to download the original firmware file and flashed with Odin.
Try this
Download the correct firmware for your phone
Go to sammoble for firware
Download Odin for Samsung
Make sure phone is at least 50 percent charged
Put phone into download mode
But is it normal that oem unlock not blue? So there stands only that its already unlocked..
So THANKS to you!!!

yes, Its normal.
When you unlock it ( became blue ) then your boot loader is unlock and you can flash custom recover and custom rom as well.
But why i had the problem that twrp can't mount system? Do i have to unlock oem after flash, too? But at the first time, twrp was able to mount it... ?

unlock OEM then boot into download mode
Flash recovery.
Wipe data and internal storage
Then flash custom rom
So now whe n i flash twrp, twrp isn't abel to mount all data (system, data, and so on)
Tough luck my friend, shouldn't have rooted your phone and why did you, root isn't needed anymore, 2 or 3 years ago maybe but not now. Maybe contact Samsung and tell them what's happened lol.

because twrp cannot decrypt Samsung's data, the only way it can is doing a format data, that means deleting everything to be able to write and mount data afterwards because the new data will be uncrypted, reason why before playing with root and twrp you need to backup all your stuff, once it is gone, there is no way back. So read a lot before playing with phones and their OS

well, now you mention you had a backup, did you check the day the backup was made, that it was successfull? I guess, maybe the data partition is still good? so you could get your stuff back
I had once a twrp back that fail to restore 3 times, but at the 4th it went through ok.

You can unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery (TWRP for example) wich provide an option to wipe Dalvik Cache only (and not everything). If it still isn't working you can try dirty flashing /system to fix it.

You need a custom recovery to flash it. There was a way to flash TWRP without unlocking (but I can't find it anymore) and I don't recommend doing it since it's a bad idea to do things like that without a way to fix if you do things wrong. I really recommend you to unlock it since it doesn't cost anything and doesn't void your warranty and after flashing twrp you can flash the stock recovery back (to get OTA, etc) and even relock the bootloader.
Or can you still acces the systemUpdate zone ? If yes you can click on the three dots on the right-up corner and click on download update and click update once it's downloaded. It will not erase anything but it will "reflash" partitions like system and also wipe cache.
EDIT : Actually I don't think you need to go into recovery mode. Erasing the app data in settings -> apps or systemApps -> [appName] -> storage -> clear cache/clear all data
Download MIUI again and install it. Do it from System Update.
