TWRP alka backup - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone, today I tried to go back from Santosh M's CM13 not because it's bad but because for some reason web browsing was very slow (everything else was just fine though, even other internet related features llke Facebook or HD vids on Youtube were blazing fast)...
Anyways, when I made a backup a while ago in TWRP Alka I forgot to uncheck firmware and got an error and now I'm stuck with a locked bootloader (twrp is working fine and I'm on Xiaomi.eu ROM). So I was wondering what I lose out on if I have locked BL and if there is anything significant, I would be VERY THANFUL to anyone who could upload their nand backup somewhere so I can download it. Also, I heard that you can unlock BL from mister Santosh's CM13 but I haven't seen anyone try it before, what's the procedure?
Thank you and have a nice day everyone

Also, the device is Snapdragon variant 32/3

Unfortunately, I didn't get what you wanted to say;But as much as I know, ROMs like Santosh M and some others lock the bootloader after you flash the ROM. So before going back to stock ROM,using your backup file, You need to re-unlock your bootloader first,or you will face boot loop. It can be done easily using Mi-Unlock tool. After that, you can revert back to your MIUI ROM.

Getting started with my rooted Samsung S6 Edge (the first few days)

I just rooted my phone (Samsung S6 Edge [SM-G925P] running Android 6.0.1) this Friday and I have a couple of questions about using the CyanogenMod ROM and installing Xposed. To note, I am pretty, pretty new (I literally just rooted 2 days ago.
So my question about CyanogenMod is will it run on my rooted Samsung and is it dedoxed? I already have TWRP and SuperSU flashed and installed on my phone.
And my question about Xposed is will it run on my phone, as well with CyanogenMod, TWRP and SuperSU? I tried installing it with the original ROM on my phone, but that provided to be disasterous since it soft-bricked my phone, but I heard that was because my ROM was deodexed.
Hi NovaViper ! It depends. Cyanogenmod and other ROMS can come in two flavors: odexed or deodexed. The one on the official Cyanogenmod Website is deodexed. If you go on Cyanogemod's official website they don't have a ROM for Samsung Galaxy S6 / Edge. Check it out: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/ Look at the left to see supported devices. Unfortunately, it's not there. Some Galaxy S6 / Edge models do support Cyanogenmod but as for your model the SM-G925P there is still no official support for CM ROM. Check this link out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...development/cyanogenmod-13-galaxy-s6-t3269984 Just out of curiosity, why do you want to install CM on your device?
I want to try CM because I heard it offers full customization.. I really would like to customize the lockscreen and colors of the UI especially and because it is deodexed, so I can also add Xposed. I have another ROM atm called Mostly Stock (its based on ROM but its deodexed and have a few changes to the stock UI, BUT it still has the parts I hate about the stock ROM). I specifically want CM because I haven't found any other ROM that offers full customization, deodxed for Xposed, and most importantly, is not like the stock ROM.
Oh, also with CM, I tried to install it but it said my device isn't support.. I tried the one from the link
If you want a full stable ROM for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and XPosed on it I would recommend this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/development/rom-carhdrom-1-t3111519. My friend has it on his ROOTED S6 Edge and it offers even more customization's then Cyanogenmod plus you can install XPosed on it. Give it a try.
Thanks I already flashed it but I notice that it isn't responsive to touch. I can interact with the buttons but no response to touch whatsoever. Seems like there isn't a ROM that works with my SM-G925P, the edge that rom works with is a G925F
Hmm, I thought it would work on your model. Try this: http://androidfreeroms.com/renegade-android-m-6-0-1-aroma-rom-sprint-samsung-s6-g925p/
I got the rom flashed and running.. but i cant seem to restore my messages from the samsung backup.. i can only get them from Textra (which doesnt export them). Also, i cant receieve text messages either.
Well, I finally got my messages backed up but.. I notice something else now. I had installed Xposed, which ended up giving me a bootloop and I had to factory and data reset, and reflash my stock rom. then I installed TWRP and then Renegade, but the mobile data isn't working anymore. Its just black the black bars.. I can't even find the Mobile Data enable button anywhere. (It works on stock rom though). To point out, mobile data WAS working before I installed Xposed. Right now, I'm reflashing my stock rom and seeing if it works.
--UPDATE 1--
Yeah, the stock mobile data works.. although I do have a theory on what could be going on
Theory 1: It could be I have to install my ROMS a certain way, initally, I had stock ROM, then I added the "Mostly Stock ROM" THEN I added Rengeade when you suggested it to me
Theory 2: Possibily signal strength/proxies (I'm doing this at on my school's wifi)
Theory 3: Something that Xposed has modified and its still there
--UPDATE 2--
I did the first theory and it worked successfully BUT.. I did remember that I had installed SuperSU soon after flashing twrp (which came after i flashed the stock rom).. Now I'm trying to see if that made a difference.
--UPDATE 3--
Ok, so it seems that it is a certain install order (tried with both superSU installed first and without). But I'm worried now about installing Xposed.. as I'm now nervous that it may end up messing up my phone again (It took a while for me to figure out how to get it back working.. as it ended up bricking with continuous looping and even factory resetting/clearing data off didn't work. I had to flash the stock rom for it to work again)
Interesting. My friends all have the International version which is G925F. Yours is Sprint ? Or some other cell phone provider ?
If your model goes haywire with simple custom rom installations and other apps than I wouldn't risk installing XPosed BUT if you do then try to follow these instructions... they work for your model:
https://xtremetricks.net/install-xposed-framework-android-6-0-6-0-1-marshmallow/
My phone is Sprint and I downloaded Xposed from the Magitsk app and it worked without bricking my phone.. I wonder why it was acting up
Strange thing, I seems I HAVE to install the 'Mostly Stock ROM' BEFORE I add Renegade.. the mobile data works to not work at all without installing Mostly Stock first.. How any idea how to fix this?
Well, I tried installing Magisk and it bricked my phone once again.. I'm really confused with whats going on. I have a backup of the stock ROM from SamMobile. What I want to do now is completely clear off ALL data from all of the roms and just start over, is that even possible? Also, if I delete the system files, do I HAVE to install the Stock ROM first, or can I just add the custom ROM and it will add the OS?
Well normally for rooted phones, you only add the custom ROM and it will automatically add the OS. I have no idea why you having so much problem with it. Did you unluck the bootloader ??
Yeah.. (I think), I made sure OEM Unlock is enabled and USB debugging is on.. Not sure what could be causing such problems with my phone.. I honestly wish I knew
What method did you use to root your phone and unlock the bootloader ?
I used the systemless method (installed TWRP, then installed the latest SuperSU which used the systemless method by itself) and I think I did.. there was an option where I had to enable (it was called OEM Unlocking, it was preventing me from flashing)
And I forgot to ask another question.. should I (and if such thing is possible) wipe the system/ folder and then install the custom ROM onto my phone without having to add the stock one at all?
What I would do if I were in your shoes is I would unroot and re-lock your bootloader again... see this article for unrooting: http://howunroot.com/unroot-supersu/samsung/galaxy+s6+edge+sm-g925p/5.0/ Now... once you unroot your phone... I don't think re-locking your bootloader will have any effect... but you can try to relock your bootloader and bring it to the original state meaning factory... once there just follow these instructions step by step: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/skipsoft-toolkit-galaxy-s6-edge-root-unlock-restore-flash-stock-firmware-drivers-more-1517879 Once you root it and unlock your bootloader again, and after your install TWRP, go into TWPR, wipe dalvik cache, wipe system, wipe everything ... and then instlal the custom ROM that I gave you in the link, and it should be working find without problems. Try that and get back to me and update me... if you have any questions then just post it here and I will help you as much as i can.
I don't think I unlocked the bootloader because I looked up the instructions to how to unlock the bootloader and I didn't do that.. all I did was enable OEM unlock, is that the same thing as unlocking the bootloader? If not, how do I unlock the bootloader?

Guys how to revert back to miui

Guys,
i'm using cm14.1 i want to revert back to miui ....please help
when i tried flash fastboot rom (kenzo_global_images_V7.3.6.0.LHOMIDD_20160523.0000.23_5.1_global_aef179560d) my wifi not worked. then i came back to cm14.1 now everthing work fine but i need miui.....please help

Bro did miui dev 6.0 fastboot rom work ?
Yeah, wifi and all will work no doubt on 6.0
use xiaomi.eu rom...flash from twrp...everything work properly for me.
site: xiaomi.eu
I use EU ROM currently too and it is the best one for me to date, also freezed some system apps with Titanium Backup.
But still dont know, if theres a way to downgrade to 5.1 if I dont have backup from 5.1, because my Kenzo came to me with 6.0... It boots fine, but wifi dont work, so also other radios, so its not usable
P.S. Can I flash with TWRP(zcx) old EU ROM recovery with 5.1 and radios will work?
I guess ill try that now

yes...you can directly flash 5.1 rom from zcx.
backup your data then do factory reset in twrp before flashing LP rom to remove any MM encryption.
hope you can downgrade without any problem..happy flashing.
anyway, probably your bootloader will relocked. but i am not really sure about this, just check it first after flashing LP rom.

I tried that yesterday, except I wiped all except cust/microsd , flashed 5.1 eu rom and then I flashed also SuperSU, it was a disaster, phone only shows Mi logo and turn off...I cant go to twrp, only to fastboot. Im going to get computer in two hours where I have everything set up And will try to go to EDL mode and then flash With MiFlash... I doubt that flashing 5.1 will work with wifi

from fastboot, are you check your bootloader? it seems your bootloader relocked, thats why you can't pass mi logo
if your bootloader relocked, you can easily unlock it using miunlock.
for wifi, you can easily flash any miui mm firmware from twrp.
Thank you for the tip, didnt thought about that...
im gonna borrow computer now, I have all drivers installed etc on it...
If its only relocked and I will be able to boot and wifi will not work, where can I get firmware (and you must be thinking LP firmware not MM, right?
btw I flashed older EU ROM MIUI7, 5.1 then flashed through zcx supersu and reboot, now Mi logo only flashss and turn off. Only fastboot I can enter.
I will then first check if BL is locked, and unlock it if it is...
thank you for help
Ok so you were right, BL was locked so I unlocked it and got enryption problem after booting up, I had to reflash ZCX TWRP, because EU ROM replaced it with official 3.2.0. So now I am finally booted up on EU rom MIUI 7.3 by xiaomi.eu/Beta, Android 5.1.1, but Wifi as expected dont work, also SIM is not recognised.
What and where to get radios I have to flash to get it working? Because it says unknown under system info about version of radios
Also it says unknown device ID (IMEI,..).
I have backed up all partitions before on MIUI 8 EU,6.0, so do I need to flash those radios or firmware or do I need it from 5.1? And where to get it if so
Nice I got it to work, restored EFS,MODEM,FIRMWARE ROM,FIRMWARE EMMC and wifi works and SIM is working )
Nice I had backup of that...still not sure if all works as needed, gotta test a bit

Yeah, now a problem is I cant access fingerprint or password lock, I think because I cant connect to Mi account, cant find my device, also cant manually log in, because it cannot verify "find device", also cannot access to "Privacy" to install 3d party apps it is a must to enable this... Also settings freeze occasionally. I think I still didnt do something right... Any tip?

sound like firmware problem, you can try to flash firmware from above link which suitable with your current android version. if you're in LP, flash 6.7.21/7.3.2.0 and see if it work. or, you can flash one of MM firmware above.
to avoid from getting relocked, you can delete emmc_appsboot.mbn from zip package using winrar/7zip without extract it and let the apps repack it again.

I tried flashing your firmware 7.3.2.0 and had to restore EFS,MODEM(maybe only modem) to get wifi,SIM working also your firmware fixed only I could log in to Mi account and find device, but still couldnt set PIN,FP, also tried calling and couldnt hear anything also on the other side no voice.
Im losing confidence that I can get everything work on 5.1 MIUI7
Then I wiped everything expect microSD and wanted to restore backup I made on EU ROM,MM6, but it said read only. Then I flashed 6.10.13 EU ROM and it works everything perfectly here...
Still want to downgrade to MIUI7,5.1 if theres a way to get it all working, because I heard battery is lil better...

ah...this is only for battery life?
miui 8 a lot better on battery backup comparing with miui 7. also you got android M with bunch of feature & security update.
if you want better battery, flash xposed & amplify (you can limits nlp wakelock), flash kernel & use darkness/zzmove gov, use adaway or minminguard to remove ads.
still want more? flash stable aosp rom & keep using above way. pure stock android will give you better battery comparing with miui.
Thanks for all this great info!
I used few CM roms for this device, but none of them were working flawless...Which one are you talking about? I tried almost all Nougat based and had a lot of problems, only CM13 from thestrix were the closest, but I like MIUI though... Thank you for your time to help me!

give a try for nx rom or aicp, both mm base. i really like both rom stability & feature. almost all my friend using both rom
for N, its still in progress & you won't get stability using N for now. give more time to let dev work & you'll get stable N which better than MM.
you're welcome, enjoy your device & dont bricked it
Thanks man, I flashed NX ROM and its stable and fast so far, also 400MHz unlocked by default ,..Flashed it with pico gapps and kenzo radios.
I want to flash xposed and amplify now, hope xposed doesnt do contra effect.
Thank you again!

No mobile data on Redmi Note 3 (kate) on custom ROMs

Hello guys,
as the title says I am currently with the mobile data connection not being established on custom ROMs, the official MIUI ROM works fine. Before trying to go to LineageOS 14.1 I ran this 13.1 ROM for quite some time successfully.
This is what I did since trying to migrate to Andoid 7.1:
I flashed the latest MIUI Global Dev ROM, this locked my bootloader again, so I tried this for installing TWRP and custom ROMs with locked bootloader and this for unlocking the bootloader unofficially. Both methods generally worked, but mobile data did work on neither of them (I checked for the correct APN).
So I tried to go back to the LineageOS 13 ROM (clean flash, since I accidentally deleted my backup) I used before, but it also does not work on that version anymore.
Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be or how I could possibly find out what causes this?
Edit: I am now actually back to the latest MIUI Global Dev and hoping that I am able to unlock the bootloader officially eventually. But any tips on the issue above would still be appreciated.
Edit 2: On the 8.0 NitrogenOS mobile data does work. I first thought that it yet had to be an APN problem, so I copied the settings from this ROM to the LineageOS 14.1 ROM and deleted all other APNs, but that actually did nothing, it still did not work. So I guess I will stay on 8.0 for now, although I wanted 7.1 because of XPosed.
Edit 3: Suddenly stopped working on Android 8. Seems to work on the first boot after flashing a Android 8 ROM and then not anymore. Going back to MIUI...
This post helped me with the issue. After a soft reboot mobile data just works fine even after enabling/disabling airplane mode.

Did you find a persistent method to solve the problem?
I have the same problem but Mobile Data only works after first boot and first soft reboot - than never ever.
BTW it works on MIUI ROMS without any problem.

I did just recently find a persistent method. Read here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70887635&postcount=9

nothing working :(

well after somehow breaking the miui stock cam when enabling the camera2apk, and being unable to fix it by replacing build.prop, i decided to restore the backup i made in twrp earlier.
restored backup: sticks at MI logo.
tried several times, cleared caches, wiped etc etc.. will not boot after restore.
so i downloaded the stock global rom, and flashed it in twrp: sticks at MI logo. will not boot
downloaded Ressurection Remix rom, flashed that.. works fine. but i want stock or as near as possible for now.
downloaded developer miui rom, flashed that in twrp: stuck at MI logo. will not boot.
tried stock stable rom again... same story, will not boot.
downloaded Miflash, and recommended TGZ archive of ROM. followed instructions and extracted to a folder and browsed to folder with Miflash. hit "refresh"
get error "length cannot be less than zero"
tried using the "mi recovery" method (renaming rom to "update.zip" and power/vol_up)
but for whatever reason, there is no "install update" option even present.
as you can see im having a very frustrating evening. i only wanted to enable the damn google camera.
flash it by edl mode
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
is there a decent guide for that anywhere? from what ive seen it still requires miflash to be working? which it, frankly, just isnt. but then, nothing is! dont think ive ever had an evening where so many things which are supposed to work all give problems together.
i mean, i could understand if the custom rom was problematic, but its the only thing that *did* work.
404 Not found
well i managed to get a stock rom installed by downloading an older version of miflash... that didnt give any errors and installed the global rom fine.
i would love to know what could be causing all my problems though. seems everthing ive tried should work.
the one that is bugging me more than anything now is that whenever i enable the camera2api, the miui stock camera stops working ( crash on hdr, panorarama mode) and stays broken even if i remove mod.
this should not happen it seems, since there are guides for enabling this and adding the pro features to the camera from higher models.
nobody seems to have an opinion on it, which is very strange considering the number of people who must have done the camera2 mod...

I dropped miui long ago, so it is difficult to comment. However, the problem would probably be found in the settings (and/or the drivers in the system). Reinstalling a stock system image and wiping /data (and formatting it, if necessary) should solve the problem. This is, of course, a drastic step - but I would be very surprised if the problem persisted after such a step.
you have to flash lazy flasher after every MIUI stock rom flashing to be able to boot the rom...
google it "lazy flasher'

Bootloop on "newer" roms even after factory wipe

Hello everyone,
i got a Redmi Note 3 pro for a friend some while ago, since i dont wanted to stick to MIUI, i just flashed ResurrectionRemix since this was the most used costum rom back then.
My friend now suddenly has the problem that his phone just bootloops all the time. So i tried upgrade the rom to a newer version but it just keept bootlooping.
I also already tried formating the data partition as well as the storage but nothing helped so far. I even tried a few different roms but no difference there either.
But the weired thing is that i found an really old full backup (1.5 years old, only system and data) of the rom he used before and when i flash that, it just works fine.
I really dont wanna go back to that old and buggy rom so is there something else i could do to fix this problem?
Have you tried flashing a newer firmware? IIRC there's a thread that includes links to all the past and latest firmwares for kenzo.

If u unofficially unlocked bootloader
Then U need latest miui rom bootloader. First update to latest miui 10 fastboot rom using pc. then unlock and install twrp .
Then ur custom roms will boot.
If u have unlocked ur bootloader officially using miunlock tool. then just flash latest firmware which includes emmc. This will directly update ur bootloader. Then u can flash custom roms.
