Haweel H1 / question about security - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there!
I don't know how to put this in writing in the proper way but this is more like an invitation for security experts because I desperately need help with this...
First I have to admit that the last time when I played with and android device was with a Samsung Galaxy S i9000. installed and tried out various roms, almost bricked it twice before settled with cyanogenmod, I never had any security issues with that phone and I felt safe. I knew what is allowed and what's not.
As a GUI designer for almost 15 years I had to learn to deal with various systems but I'm no coder or any kind of expert on Android systems, just persistent and curious.
To cut to the point about a week ago I purchased from a Chinese manufacturer HAWEEL H1 model, their one and only android phone (what you can find on haweel website).
I didn't connected this phone to any of my proper accounts, or wherever sensitive data is stored because It does not appeared to be a clean device,
and today I got my first phishing sms, in a form of a whatsapp activation code. Never ever in my life received such message on this cell number, and I began to worry.
So my question is:
1, How can I investigate that this rom has a built-in malware/backdoor/rootkit etc?
2, Can I install a stock rom to this phone?
3, I do not know how this fits but I rather pay someone to check out this device/rom and give some advice how to make this phone secure and safe.
I can give all the information that is needed just ask please, the phone is rooted.

Most China based devices have all the above because it is required by china's Government. It is built into the main frameworks.
As with all no name devices you won't find and clean roms for it as they never release kernel source code and developers never touch them.

Thanks for this info, so if I understand correctly there is now way that this phone will be ever clean, basically I can throw it out into the trash?

Honestly, that is what I would do. Then I would save up and get a device not out of china.

Bought this for travel, It seemed like a good idea to buy a cheap droid which is not a problem if gets lost or destroyed.
Thanks again.

Yeah I can understand that. Best advise at that point would be grab one of the cheap devices from a prepaid carrier. When it comes to cellphones alot of things play a part. Mainly when traveling. Like China based devices are allowed to come with malware as well as things like key loggers, screen recorders and software to phone home back to China.

[Q] How to get the ROM/kernel version of the phone?

Hi all,
I am in a development team which develops an app used by millions of users worldwide. We get mysterious crash log messages all the time which happens only a couple dozen or even less devices which we can not directly reproduce while the vast majority of the users can use those features without problem. We suspect that in some of these cases some custom ROM or custom kernel causes the problem. Currently we get these informations from the hardware/software environment (in the parentheses there are examples from an actual crash log):
- Android version (4.0.4)
- Board version (SPH-D710)
- Brand (Samsung)
- System build number (IMM76I.FH13)
- System build ID (IMM76I)
I have a Nexus S with ParanoidAndroid, and on the About Phone page there are the extra fields I speak about (for example CyanogenMod version, ParanoidAndroid version, kernel version). My question is that is there an universal way to extract all or some of this information which could work on any device?
Go to settings and click about phone there will be the versions...

You misunderstood me. I know perfectly what kind of ROM is on MY phone, but I don't have access to every single phone and tablet which runs our app.
EDIT: The os.version system property seems to get the kernel version, but the other properties in System.getProperties() does not seem to have much use for me.
Did you find an answer?
EDIT: After a little digging I found everything shown in Kernel version of about phone:
On a N4 with Matr1x kernel, about phone shows this:
3.4.0-cfs-gb074426 <dev_email> #4 Sun Mar 3 22:47:55 CST 2013
This gets the initial version:
Code:
System.getProperty("os.version");
I'm pretty sure the date can be retrieved using this:
Code:
android.os.Build.TIME
3.4.0-cfs-gb074426
However there doesn't seem to be any other property that leads to the remaining version information, but this file has it all:
/proc/version
Anyone found a better way to get the dev build number, eg <dev_email> #4

one of the ROMs on this needrom site may or may not work. for instance: this one for MTK6589 chip seems right. also check this trhead -- page 72 in that thread may have some good tips.
do this at your own risk. I have no experience with no-brand or clone devices. even the administrator of Pandawill (chinese vendor) said there is no ROM available for download.

Yeah thats why I'm kinda stuck here. If anyone with higher experience help I'd be realy happy

some ideas ... : did you search keyword "GT-I9502" in this forum's search box? in google / bing / yahoo / yandex.ru / 4pda.ru / freaktab.com / ... ? maybe browse in and PM a seemingly experienced person in one these or other threads...

I did, and my device is kinda wierd because it doesn't have any brand name as you might guess. It says "SAMSUNG" in it.
And I read on the internet if I download original samsung duos i9502 rom it will brick my device (logically). I searched on Russian forums, Chinese forums but couldn't find any solution
Edit:
I found this:

but as it is russian and google can't translate everything properly I dont know is it right one or not.

the file that user "sheitan" pitches is likely a CWM (recovery) backup package, and not a proper ROM, due to its ~1 GB size . so really, do not use that. what's the issue or lack of features in your current ROM? As an alternative to flashing a slick 3rd party ROM, you could use various tweaks such as Xposed Framework, Modaco, and GravityBox. what are you looking to add or change in your phone's ROM? cheers with baltika.

It is 1Gb because it has actually 2 Same rom for 2 different flashing programs.
When I got this clone s4 I figured many different ways to flash the phone.
I used "sheitan"'s backup, and everything worked but screen
So I flashed my backup back again.
Well to your question why do I need a rom, maybe you know maybe you dont, these chinese phones use kinda low version of Gapps. Therefore I can not play Clash of Clans (I can but I can't load my account to it because it asks google play services).
So I was trying to install google play services and I screwed up a bit and was not able to install any apk.
(Was just able to push the apk file do data/apk and reboot - but its disgusting you know. Imagine everytime you had to do it)
And my backup was bad one (I backed up after I screwed up things so its kinda useless)
but what I did solved my problem so far, this "sheitan" guy's backup had "system.img" that contains necessary apps, I flashed only system.img and the other elements stayed same in my phone so everything works now.
But Of course I will not say no to an Omni or Cyanogenmod rom ever

I C. Wow this topic "can't find a custom rom for i9502" is very popular!
Clever you found the system.img file to be useful. Damn those Russians are f'cking sh't up in a good way :good: ! I took only one semester of college Russian, and I wish I knew a lot more so I could read the forums. I suppose flashing Gapps through recovery mode or something like that would be beneficial. But I don't have experience with that. What version of android you running? I saw the very first post of this thread there was no "brand" or "device" or some other strings. Is there a manufacturer or brand or other good strings in the phone? I attached an output of my /system/build.prop as an example. If you could get more detail from build.prop or by another way then the information may be of use. I found some more files linked in the Russian I9500 forums. I don't know what they are or do, but have you tried these?

As you see, I dont have anything useful in my build.prop because clever chinese friends thought they will trick customers by writing samsung there in the phone's build.prop but anyways, I will try to port cyanogen on my own, I'm a backend web developer but no experience on android so it will be good way to start, I think.
About Gapps, I read on some forums people can't update their google play store and other gapps because they are pre installed in system so they can't be updated.
But I'm afraid that when I update gapps they wont work and I'll have to pick whats necessary again and again so I'm kinda tired.
The one thing I'm happy with the phone is that battery is godlike. Survives 1,5 days and my previous phone (Note1) was like 10-12 hours a day barely. Now I'm happy but I dont know what'll happen in future.

wow nice. push the uptime limits woop woop! :victory: try to get more than 24 hours uptime and on battery without charging! maybe turn off "location" settings under system Settings and under Google Maps. Google Maps and Google Services and sometimes Wifi are real battery eaters
*EDIT* forgot to say -- You're very welcome. I enjoy tinkering with these things. I don't like MS-windows on phones! and iPhones are expensive! hell no! I was so happy to know Google released a smartphone with Linux in 2008 or '9. and I am awaiting arrival of a chinese boat offshore USA filled with electronics so I can get my JXD Android gaming tablet and connect it to my TV. Same model of Cellphone, need help with ROM's
Dear,
I have the same model GT-I9502 clone.
I have some problems with this cellphone, i want try install another Android and Rom version for it, but i dont know whats version i need, and i dont know even i can download a ROM and how to do.
You can say what you do in your GT-I9502?
You could install a new rom on it? Found a compatible version?
To you know better mys problems:
This cellphone has a serious problem of "battery drain", sometimes it is with 84% battery and rebooting it, and it appears with 66%, sometimes before reaching 1% it off (for example, when this with 10% or some other).
Battery drains very fast, and turns itself off before the battery goes to 0% sometimes, for example, sometimes have shows that 50 % of battery and turn off anyway.
Detail, the battery temperature is normal, the app shows usually 22 C.
Another problem I noticed , had a day that was showing 47 % battery indefinitely, and with the app adobe opened, was showing 47 % - have stayed that way for so long without even changing the percentage, rebooted and then called again, and was 22 %, ie, apparently the battery meter stop to count the % and not show the real situation, the OS of my phone will be some bug or the problem are battery itself?
I trie another batterys, but the problem continues.
Already setting the cell for maximum economy with power saving mode on, with a minimum brightness with function close applications when you leave, and nothing worked to solve the problem of battery %.
I thought I'd try to install another version of android or ROM, but never did it.
And as this GT-9502 is a clone, do not know which version to use.
maybe you can help me, at least saying how you install another ROM in your cellphone.

[Q] [ROM] Lenovo A850c (Chinese Clone!) ROM Request

Regards, Droiders!
I just bought a Lenovo A850 Clone from china (aliexpress). It's model is lenovoa850c
aliexpress.com/snapshot/6008093008.html
(Please, let's not discuss if it's a good phone or not. It's irrelevant and will spoil the thread)
(Note that the Original Lenovo has a 5.5" screen, and the clone has only 5")
I don't like the Default ROM, so I want to install a new one. Of course, this phone has none that I could find.
My phone is already rooted, and CWM (Clockworkmod) is already flashed in as recovery boot.
I tried installing a ROM for the original Lenovo 850, but the phone never booted (the jellybean android boy popped up infinitely)
- What do you suggest?
- Do you know any compatible ROM?
- Should I try other Lenovo 850 ROMs?

Anyone? I have a new phone waiting to be sensually touched by me, but I need the ROM!
I've tried with Goo Manager, and it didn't return compatible roms.
I've searches a lot online, and couldn't find it either.
How can I find the most compatible one? What should I compare to find a possible match?
What hardware information is important?
Bump for me. I need a ROM
Have you tried with CyanogenMod ?
Hi. I recently aquired this phone and i hardly need a new rom. It always has full ram memory used, the touch feedback is not that nice and the sound is very low, specially when using earphones. I couldn't find any rom, not even cyanogen. Not know how hard it is to make one, but we can try team up and build some.
Thanks.
Also, any other forum opened for the A850c?

Your issue is that clone devices do not release the kernel source for it so no custom ROMs.

I see. But isn't there any way to find that kernel, or use an existing one? I find the processor on this phone pretty popular.

No each device has specific kernel files. Without the proper source code you are out of luck.
The processor is only popular on China based devices. None of the big names use it.
Then you get into needing to build a recovery for it.

It sounds like I didn't pick such a good phone. Thus i saw a lot of mods for the A850 model. Not sure if there is the same processor, but couldn't that kernel work? I'm able to involve some time in this, but my knowledge about kernels and mobile software is not much.
I kinda find this phone pretty popular, but it seems like i'm wrong. Could you guys tell me if I should sell my new A850c and buy sth similar at the same price but more popular? I really need a clean and optimized rom on my phone to use it a it's maximum perfomance. And the touch feedback is killing me. Try play dots on this phone if you have it. It annoys you.
Another problem appeared. The GPS is not working and i really need it. After some research i found out that "they only provide location in China". Is there anything i can do? Even some fake coordinates would help me.
Thanks.
Hi. Can someone with the rooted phone send me a back-ul with all rom's included apps? I removed a lot of them and lost the back-up. Now i've reseted the phone and i really need the default apps.

HELP!! Need Root / Custom ROM assistance for GALAXY S3 SCH-R530X!!!!

Hello! I am one of many of the SCH-R530(X) users and I would like to upgrade to the best available ROM Kernel & Firmware for my device. I am unsure of what carrier it is on, the device does not have active service, and I bought it for $20 USD about a year or so ago
There currently is no SD card installed but I do have 16GB internal - it is running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with developers options enabled -
I'm running Baseband Version R530XWWUBMK4 with build number JSS15J.530XWWUBMK4
The kernel version:
3.0.31-2116674

Enforcing
SEPF_SCH-R530X_4.3_0100
Hardware Version
R530X.01
Now that the nitty/gritty is posted above, I would like to figure out the easiest way to get this ROOTED and have it completely up to date! If I can get Android Pay working with the NFC reader that would be stupendous! I almost installed a malware riddled version of towelroot 4.3 from one of the similar threads, seems this device has been deprecated for a few years now, however I loved the S3 and personally owned an SCH-I535 which lasted me for a good year and a half, unfortunately a friend has taken this device, and installed the guts into another phone for his dad.
I'd like to get this up to date, and try some new apps on it. Any recommendations, or information pertaining to my model would be certainly useful!
Thanks so much XDA and I hope to get some responses!

Your phone appears to be very similary to the i747.
You can probably flash ROMs from that device.
You will get better replies if you posted here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-all

Download Kingoroot for pc and install it.
Enable USB debugging on your phone and connect it to your pc using a USB cable.
Connect your pc to internet.
Open Kingoroot, it will detect your phone automatically.
Click the root button and wait for the process to complete.

Is there a safer alternative? I have heard that KingRoot may contain adware/spyware and that's the last thing I need. I'd also like some instructions/information as to perhaps the latest ROM, hopefully working with Android Pay (I know it's possible!)

Not KingRoot but Kingoroot. Both are different.
I've found a cheap alternative solution to broadcast FM radio to bluetooth headsets. Here is the Link
