Hello,
Recently I bought a Kogan 8" Tablet. I have found it quite fun to use but I am still lacking many freedoms that I have on my phone.
I have Google'd around for quite some time hoping that someone else will create a thread for this device but that still hasn't happened, so I thought I would do it.
I'm currently looking for a way to root the device and I guess without asking I have more chances of getting a brick (an experience I had with my Samsung Galaxy S2, RIP).

Shameless revival of old thread.

Hello, I 2 years ago I was playing a lot with putting different ROM's on my HD2. However, now I can not remember sh*t about how was it happening.
I can't even remember what exact ROM I am using, so I have no idea how to update.
What I know is
Android version 2.3.6
Build Number : GRK39F (NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.1 a NAND)
Kernel version 2.6.32.15_tytung_r12-ga11a1a8 [email protected] #112
Can you tell me something that can be of help? I don't need to be guided like a small child through the process, but at least some general guidance to get me going
Thank you much!
This is my phone:
www.whatmobile.com.pk/Qmobile_Noir-A300
I am attaching the specs of it from CPU-Z and from the settings.
http://imgur.com/a/pnkar
and here are the questions to the answer in the description of this sub:
software configuration: I guess this means what OS I am on? I am on 4.2.2
including the ROM: OEM ... piece of trash. highly customized JB
kernel: 3.4.5 [email protected] #1
Tue May 13 09:21:36 CST 2014
and any modifications you've done: Its rooted, I have greenify running but it doesn't help. and I am using Smart Launcher 3 as my launcher ... but it really hasn't helped me.
basically, the issue I face is that this phone is intolerably slow and sadly due to being unemployed for the next few months, I am stuck with this. is there any way I can dump a lighter ROM on this? Google is giving me dated results from 2012. I hope someone can help me get the most out of this Piece of crap.
I frequently face issues to whatsapp crashing when switching, the keyboard being unable to keep up with my typing and other sluggish issues. if anyone can help me out, I will forever be grateful!
I am doing a ROM after a long time, so if someone can tell me how to backup the ROM prior to updating the ROM, that would be a huge help!
I am gonna keep this thread open in a tab and I will answer any and all questions you have regarding the phone as promptly as possible. I really wanna solve this issue ASAP.
Hello there!
I don't know how to put this in writing in the proper way but this is more like an invitation for security experts because I desperately need help with this...
First I have to admit that the last time when I played with and android device was with a Samsung Galaxy S i9000. installed and tried out various roms, almost bricked it twice before settled with cyanogenmod, I never had any security issues with that phone and I felt safe. I knew what is allowed and what's not.
As a GUI designer for almost 15 years I had to learn to deal with various systems but I'm no coder or any kind of expert on Android systems, just persistent and curious.
To cut to the point about a week ago I purchased from a Chinese manufacturer HAWEEL H1 model, their one and only android phone (what you can find on haweel website).
I didn't connected this phone to any of my proper accounts, or wherever sensitive data is stored because It does not appeared to be a clean device,
and today I got my first phishing sms, in a form of a whatsapp activation code. Never ever in my life received such message on this cell number, and I began to worry.
So my question is:
1, How can I investigate that this rom has a built-in malware/backdoor/rootkit etc?
2, Can I install a stock rom to this phone?
3, I do not know how this fits but I rather pay someone to check out this device/rom and give some advice how to make this phone secure and safe.
I can give all the information that is needed just ask please, the phone is rooted.

Most China based devices have all the above because it is required by china's Government. It is built into the main frameworks.
As with all no name devices you won't find and clean roms for it as they never release kernel source code and developers never touch them.
Thanks for this info, so if I understand correctly there is now way that this phone will be ever clean, basically I can throw it out into the trash?

Honestly, that is what I would do. Then I would save up and get a device not out of china.
Bought this for travel, It seemed like a good idea to buy a cheap droid which is not a problem if gets lost or destroyed.
Thanks again.

Yeah I can understand that. Best advise at that point would be grab one of the cheap devices from a prepaid carrier. When it comes to cellphones alot of things play a part. Mainly when traveling. Like China based devices are allowed to come with malware as well as things like key loggers, screen recorders and software to phone home back to China.
Hello! I am one of many of the SCH-R530(X) users and I would like to upgrade to the best available ROM Kernel & Firmware for my device. I am unsure of what carrier it is on, the device does not have active service, and I bought it for $20 USD about a year or so ago
There currently is no SD card installed but I do have 16GB internal - it is running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with developers options enabled -
I'm running Baseband Version R530XWWUBMK4 with build number JSS15J.530XWWUBMK4

Now that the nitty/gritty is posted above, I would like to figure out the easiest way to get this ROOTED and have it completely up to date! If I can get Android Pay working with the NFC reader that would be stupendous! I almost installed a malware riddled version of towelroot 4.3 from one of the similar threads, seems this device has been deprecated for a few years now, however I loved the S3 and personally owned an SCH-I535 which lasted me for a good year and a half, unfortunately a friend has taken this device, and installed the guts into another phone for his dad.
I'd like to get this up to date, and try some new apps on it. Any recommendations, or information pertaining to my model would be certainly useful!
Thanks so much XDA and I hope to get some responses!

Your phone appears to be very similary to the i747.
You can probably flash ROMs from that device.
You will get better replies if you posted here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-all

Download Kingoroot for pc and install it.
Enable USB debugging on your phone and connect it to your pc using a USB cable.
Connect your pc to internet.
Open Kingoroot, it will detect your phone automatically.
Click the root button and wait for the process to complete.

Is there a safer alternative? I have heard that KingRoot may contain adware/spyware and that's the last thing I need. I'd also like some instructions/information as to perhaps the latest ROM, hopefully working with Android Pay (I know it's possible!)

Not KingRoot but Kingoroot. Both are different.
I've found a cheap alternative solution to broadcast FM radio to bluetooth headsets. Here is the Link
