[Q] [4.1.1] Kogan Agora/Rockchip KATBL08A16E Root - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Recently I bought a Kogan 8" Tablet. I have found it quite fun to use but I am still lacking many freedoms that I have on my phone.
I have Google'd around for quite some time hoping that someone else will create a thread for this device but that still hasn't happened, so I thought I would do it.
I'm currently looking for a way to root the device and I guess without asking I have more chances of getting a brick (an experience I had with my Samsung Galaxy S2, RIP).

[Q] Unlock Bootloader Tool

Hey guys, I'm having trouble unlocking the bootloader on my TF201.
Every time I launch the ASUS supplied app and click the unlock button, I get the message that an unknown error has occurred and to try again later. This has been occuring for several weeks since I tried to do this.
Android Version : 4.1.1
Build Number: JRO03C.US_epad-10.4.2.18-20121122
If it helps, I did have to RMA my tablet due to the unknown serial number issue when I first got it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
sorry...
Unfortunately, this thread is all about your problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764917
I just posted an update, so you may want to check the last page of that thread. The short answer is...without doing something, you probably won't get it fixed. Also, doing another RMA, probably also won't help. My post is *very* detailed, and hopefully it helps you understand why RMAing probably won't fix the problem (unless, of course, you have no serial number...which is a necessity).

Thank you so much for your reply!
What firmware and android version were you on when you contacted ASUS via email?
If you're asking what I had when I first contacted them and then sent in for the RMA...I don't recall anymore. It was at least 4.1.1 and TW 10.4.2.17 (or newer).
After the RMA, they reimaged it and I had the following when I contacted them the final time (and they ultimate ended up fixing it, server side):
Android version: 4.1.1
Kernel: 3.1.10-00004-gc770ddc [email protected])) #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Oct 18 15:38:00 CST 2012
Build number: JRO03C.WW_epad-10.4.2.17-20121018
Pad EC version: TF201-PAD-0215
In the email, I also included my serial number and wifi MAC address for their reference.

Alright thank you, because when I first contacted them they said the problem was unfixable because I was not on 4.0. I'll try contacting them and tell them I am on 4.0. This really helps, I appreciate it.

No worries. Best of luck!

First Questions, China - Clones

Hello everyone,
For several months I've been following the posts here in the forum and had always the impression that here useful
Information can be found. But with my smartphones I did'nt come further on. I'm just not sure because I
previously had a simple and untapped mobile. Android is also new to me, such as the operation of the devices.
On top of that I have no idea what in fact the devices are and how I could find out. For this it seems to me, must be
the first important step eg to connect the phone to the PC. - Clear that I need a drive, but what kind of?
What I tried so far, unfortunately, failed.
I received both devices as a gift and in both cases it is a Samsung Galaxy - Clone, that were purchased in China.
What I have noticed so far, is the constant change of the MAC - addresses, which always attracts new IP addresses to itself.
The latter I have to delete every few days in the home network overview of my router, which is quite annoying.
I would like to change this, but I read that root privileges are needed for.
I know now that therefore apps are existing and also that they can not be used with any device.
Also, I think I can remember that the smartphone must be connected for this purpose via USB, which in turn requires drivers
the need to adapt. My PC recognizes the smartphones currently not at all, so I would be grateful for any help.
Perhaps someone here knows, which devices it could be, what drivers are to use and how I can get root privileges.
The only information that I can do to the equipment, are those that can be read directly on the device, because to packaging really
everything seems like Samsung - made originals. Therefore, here are a few information that may be useful perhaps:
1. Samsung Galaxy S4 clone (GT i9500)
Over the phone:
- Model Number: GT-I9500
- Android Version: 4.4.4
- Baseband - Version: I9500XXUAMDE, 03/07/2014 11:17
- Kernel - Version: 3.4.5
root @ Sanstar desktop # 1
Fri Mar 7 13:59:02 CST 2014
- Build - Number: JDQ39 I9500XXUAMDE
- Customize build version: 1395388007
2. Samsung Galaxy S5 Clone (SM-G900)
Over the phone:
- Model Number: SM - G900
- Android Version: 4.4.2
- Baseband - Version: G900ZCUBMI3
- Kernel - version: 3.4.0-1590669

Wed May 28 10:25:51 CST 2014
- Build - Number: KOT49H.G900DKEU1ANCC
- Customize build version: KOT49H0528
So I hope that I' m half right at this point in the forum.
