Why is my YouTube app SUDDENLY only showing 480p quality as the maximum option? This did not happen before as I can stream in 1440p maybe last week.
I have the H860N on v10d firmware. Is there any way I can report this to Google?

Mmmmmm, my problem is that the maximum quality in 60fps videos is 480p. Try watching other videos to see if there are more quality options.
You can try to clear data of Youtube app too.

I just did a couple of tests and it kinda seemed like it was off when I was watching it back on the Note but when I transfered it to my Hackintosh it seemed to be fine. Are you watching it on the Note or a PC?
on my note. maybe its just a software issue? can you try via another video playback app on the phone

Hi there,
I have a panasonic camcorder that records videos in 1080p to MTS file, I have tried several video players but video is stuttering like crazy in all of them. In my opinion Note 2 cpu is more than enough to play smoothly any video at any bitrate. I don't want to remux or reencode the whole library (200 gigs of videos) so is there something that can be done to play mts files smoothy?
Thanks

The bitrate is around 16 mbps, do you know of any places where I can upload a big file for free?

Don't worry just grabbed some high bitrate samples to test brb
I just grabbed the panasonic 50p sample file from http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/canon-xf-series-hd-camcorders/478223-xf300-compared-panasonic-hdc-tm700.html#post1524096
its 24.3Mbps 1080p 50fps
using MX player
HW+ mode it chugged and was extremely choppy
HW mode it didn't support
SW mode played fine with the odd dropped frame
Try MX player as your videos are lower spec they should play fine

Thanks for the sugestion, in SW mode it drops massive amount of frames, the video looks like in slow motion.
what is your camcorder? can you upload a test video (10 seconds or less) in mediafire to check it?

It is Panasonic HDC-SD60, will upload something tomorrow, thanks guys for your help
Just checked the specs, and I think the problem is that it records the files in 50 fps, which the current phones dont have the power to play it.
Try to check if there is a 30/25 fps limit and try to record in that format and test it on your device.
If there is not an option or you dont want to decrease the fps, then I guess your only choice is convert the videos to 30/25 fps.

But my girlfriends asus tf300t plays them just fine. Does that mean that downclocked tegra 3 is faster than exynos in note 2?
I will do some other checks later. Maybe its not picking up the hardware acceleration correctly.
I have uploaded a 20 seconds sample, also it looks like the video is in 25 fps !
http://www.mediafire.com/?02p5dgd4y9j3160
Yup still lags for me, I even remuxed it to mkv to see if it was the file format causing it.
Looks like you are going to have to convert it all!
Dear brodzik,
I suggest you to try bsplayer from google play... AFAIK, bsplayer has its own rendering engine and this may solve your problem...
Kind regards.

I've tried that already and it is stuttering like crazy
Is it because it's interlaced? Not 50fps but 25/25 interlaced. Does the phone have problems with 1080i stuff?
So any ideas as to why Tegra device has no problems playing this file and Note is strugling?
Bump
BS software mode plays it smoothly.
I can't find anyone else with this problem, so I decided to come here where the professionals live.
My problem is that i'm 100% sure that this is an hd phone, as I've downloaded and played HD videos before, and the default background is HD. Whenever I run the youtube application, the maximum quality that i'm allowed to choose is 480p. Any help would be appreciated.
The resolution is qHD, youtube detects itself, so we cant have 720p on youtube.

Moto E 2015 has a 960x540 resolution screen. While the phone can handle playing higher-resolution video (I'm been able to play 1080p and 720p 10bit video in MX Player with no issues), the Youtube app limits to the resolution of your screen. Wish it at least gave the option for 720p, for the greater bitrate, but alas it's limited to 480p. Unofficial Youtube apps might give you all the resolution options, but I haven't tested out any to confirm.
Anybody get above 480p resolution on 60fps videos?
Reported it daily but still no joy

I can only watch youtube in 480p too. I don't know what they are trying to pull here.
Can you change to 1080p in the youtube settings?
Or you can use Tubemate. I think tubemate is better. It can download videos and especially see upvotes in youtube comments.

it only shows the option of 1080p when its not on 1080p 60fps,when its on 60 fps ,the maximun resolution is 480p. Maybe the display its not supported, but i doubt that because the refresh rate of the display its 120 mhz if im not mistaken.
It's quite annoying to have to watch 480p when you need it the most.
I posted the problem on the sonymobile forum.

Hello. Does anyone know why youtube resolution 2k is not available? The maximum resolution for me is 1080p.
It's related to the VP9 codec, I forced the codec on the YouTube Vanced app and it now plays content up to 4k however the tablet isn't really capable of smooth 4k playback, 1440p works fine.

1440p and 4K works fine for me in VP9. 1440p @ 60 fps stutters a lot though.
It does play in 1440p in app but just on a few selected videos for me. I have no idea tho why. It is strange.

I'm gonna go with a big, fat maybe...? on this one. [email protected] is pretty demanding and in the stock YouTube app (i.e. without forcing VP9) [email protected] doesn't work reliably.

does 1440p work with other apps or if you record your own videos mate?
Smart Resolution
I noticed the same problem in a show unit. On my Huawei Mate 10 Settings, Display, Screen Resolution, there is an option called Smart Resolution. If I disable the option for smart resolution, the OS allows me to pick between HD (1280 x 720), FHD (1920 x 1080) and WQHD (2569 x 1440). Changing the resolution to WQHD will allow Youtube to play higher than 1080. However on the M5, there is just a toggle to enable / disable the smart resolution. See if that helps with the situation.

I think the issue here is that the Kirin 960 does not decode VP9 videos, which are what YouTube's premium video is encoded in (above 1080p). Hence the tablet can't view them, unless it does software decoding (which will kill the battery life)
I am trying to play 2k videos on youtube on my mediapad m5 8.4
I installed the youtube vanced but it still doesn't work and i still watch only FHD.
Could you please help me if there is a fix for this.
https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/a52148d7 in video formats it says Vp9 codec, so I think it is supported.

Hmmm, also another issue I've found is that HEVC playback only works on the stock video app. VLC is unable to hardware decode it. Maybe a software update from Huawei can fix this.
Also the Asus Zenpad 3S10 had an issue like this, but 1440p was exposed, but it didn't hardware decode and so was laggy. I think there was a software update that fixed it. That was a MediaTek CPU though.
Kirin 960 cant decode VP9

Found that few secs ago too. Sorry for misinformation.
I am at utter disbelief and shock.
I did not imagine it won't play anything more than 1080!!!
I tried on YouTube vanced but it stutters during playback.
I am returning this device today.
Technology progresses, not regresses.
Just bought 2 mediapads today. 10.8.
Only 1980 on YouTube.
Only 1980 on Netflix.
Stutter on 4k videoes both streaming and having the file on the tablet.
No external utube apps Will play higher than 1980x1080.
My chinese chuwi hi9air will play 2K on YouTube.
And stream 4k no stress.
Netflix only 980x560. Fml.
Solution... Hm.. returning my new mediapads and keep my chinese.
---------- Post added at 01:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 AM ----------
You know... I bought this because i wanted a slightly bigger screen so i could enjoy even more the 2K resolution.. but since it doesn't show any 2k or 4k material without stuttering and having a croppy picture i dont see any reason to buy this.
I rather buy a bigger Chinese tablet with 2K than this.
It really breakes my heart to because i really wanted them...

Yes. Correct.
My Chuwi hi9air is a Chinese crap tablet that have no recognizion in the large market.
Yet they outperform the more than twice expensive Huawei mediapad.
Now im gonna order a chuwi hi 9 plus the 10.8 and already i know that tablet is gonna be better than Huawei.
Ps- everything is made china. Even the packaging of the fish you buy at the store is from china.
duplicated.

Thanks! I did the steps in your link and now I have 1440p60fps smooth in my M5 8.4". Battery drain is very noticeable, but it's not a problem for me.
I don't understand why Huawei block this resolution if it can manage it.
