[Root] Safe to remove LG apps. - LG G5 Questions & Answers

So i've unlocked my bootloader and rooted my H850.
I'm looking to see what's safe to remove, I've so far removed most google apps that are pre-installed apart from the ones i need, now i ask which LG apps are safe to remove without causing problems.

Mind u I use the debloated Fluence HD ROM and patch, but I only disable apps the system let's me disable... Between my g3 and now g5 I've found that system performs worse when I do more than disable apps the system thinks it needs...I doubt that is true for 100% of apps but I get incredible battery life using that and other methods...
Just my two cents...

Yeah I've used the list of apps that has been removed from the Fluence HD Patch from thread, cheers.
I'm sure they're more that are safe to remove though.

[Q]Removing bloatware

I did a quick search and didn't see anything so sorry if this is a repeat. My friend has the VZW Note II and I used ExynosAbuse to root it for him. He's planning on unlocking the bootloader later on but I wanted to check one thing. Will removing bloatware do anything to the phone while the bootloader is still locked? I have an LG spectrum and while it had a locked bootloader you couldn't remove certain apps without causing a soft brick. I wanted to check before I tell him it's safe to get rid of stuff.
If he has root, I would do a system back up of all the apps first. It should be safe to remove the bloat but to be sure just do a quick Google search of it( "app name" safe to remove). I have removed a majority of the bloat but then again I'm unlocked. Just do not remove anything that you have no idea what it is. If you find yourself with a long list of apps that you have no idea if they are safe to remove AND Google isn't helping, make a new question and post them here, I'll take a look at then

2016 LG V10 (VS990) Bloatware Removal List

I am NOT responsible for you destroying or messing up your device during bloatware removal.
Here is the official bloatware removal list that you can rely on to get rid of unwanted apps:
Regular Bloatware:
Audible
Slacker Radio
Verizon Location Agent (Significant Battery Life Killer)
VZ Messages
Caller Name ID
VZ Support and Protection
VZ NFL Mobile
VZ Cloud
Amazon Kindle (Unremovable/Does Not Remove)
Amazon Music (Optional/Not Really Needed to Be Removed)
Amazon (Optional/Not Really Needed to Be Removed)
Amazon Shopping (Optional/Not Really Needed to Be Removed)
Removable Without Root Bloatware:
MapQuest
If there is any more bloatware, let me know and I will be happy to add them to the list.
I reccomend to use the System App Remover app, which allows you to restore apps that you remove from the system.
Notice: When using a root removal tool, after you uninstall a root app the app itself tends to indefinitely crash. The fix for this is simply restarting your device.
Don't forget
VZ Cloud
DT Ignite
All of the Amazon apps
(note I am not rooted but these are all on the disabled list which should also be removable but do so at your own risk)

This happened because you were most likely not running the latest version of Android when you rooted it and therefore it glitched it out.

I also tend to not just freeze but remove just about everything I don't find of value as well. I like it super clean, super smart, super efficient While it can be a little temperamental with a couple of apps, it smooths out after a reboot and clean up.
REALLY digging this lovely, just purchased device. I like to root and optimize from the get go! I look forward to exploring!

LG V30 Stock Debloat!? Help needed!

Hey Folks,
I'm working on Stock right now and have trouble with debloating the Firmware. For example:
Code:
delete_recursive("/system/media/bootanimation.zip");
delete_recursive("/system/media/bootanimation_decrypting.zip");
delete_recursive("/system/media/bootanimation_plus.zip");
delete_recursive("/system/media/bootanimation_prime.zip");
delete_recursive("/system/media/shutdownanimation.zip");
delete_recursive("/product/media/bootanimation.zip");
delete_recursive("/product/media/bootanimation_decrypting.zip");
delete_recursive("/product/media/bootanimation_plus.zip");
delete_recursive("/product/media/bootanimation_prime.zip");
delete_recursive("/product/media/shutdownanimation.zip");
Does not remove the Animations on Startups and Shutdowns (Taken from My Updater Script). I'm also not able to remove some of the System Apps (Most is already removed). Can anyone guide me to the right locations? I'm pretty busy right now with other stuff and that would help alot! Thanks in advance
You can also submit 3rd Party Bloat from Your Firmwares. I remember from My LG G5 there was something like /opt folders and other stuff we don't want on our Devices. Brutal how deeply this firmwares are bloated. Just as bad as Samsung (At least we get Snapdragons World Wide and not this exynos crap)...
Alright, i found out the stuff is in /system/product. Everything is fine now, i'll leave the Info for People who are searching for this...

Sorry, totally disagree with you.
1) Maybe our definition of bloatware is different if you think stuff like 0:05 (5 seconds) shutdown animation is "bloatware". Seriously?
"delete_recursive("/system/media/shutdownanimation.zip"
2) Depends on which V30 variant you are using. US998 is not bloated. Yes, the carrier models are, like AT&T H931 or Verizon VS996 have carrier bloatware. But once rooted, easy to freeze that stuff in Titanium Backup. In fact, people often Frankenstein to US998 to quickly debloat the carrier versions.
On US998, the only thing I saw fit to freeze was Twitter. I have an account but don't really use it.
If you don't use Facebook you can freeze that also.
The Anxious V30 Magisk mod replaced the stock YouTube with Vanced YouTube. I think everyone in the world uses YouTube, so not really bloatware.
Sure you can remove the wallpapers and stuff, as I have my own -- but every phone has stock wallpapers. I wouldn't describe that as "brutal".

You don't need to protect LG. They do just get cash from Facebook, Amazon and Co like Samsung does, i don't see a difference after owning a S9+ recently. And it isn't done with a Freeze of the Facebook App. There are other Services running that You can't stop without Root. I don't get the Reason for You post at all... I was asking for Debloat Tipps and not for Opinions about the "Definition of Bloatware"... I also don't support YouTube Vanced or other Apps that Support AdBlocking on Google Services and such. So YouTube isn't bloat but i'll let the Users decide what they want to use. You can also reach YouTube from Chrome and other Browsers (So no need for such Apps at all). If You ask Me is everything Bloat that isn't essential for the OS to run. You can't replace the Dialer for example but You could replace the Browser with a WebView "Browser", or replace all Apps from Google that You can reach over the Web...
Bloat can also be the definition of OEM Apps since Google does already provide all essential User Apps for Android over the Play Store. So don't get Me wrong but i just wanted to get a list of Locations with Apps, not a Discussion about who uses Facebook or that or that App.
I remember there was Spyware from LG that was unwanted from many Users, i also found a folder called /opt in the past which was loaded with Carrier Apps or such. That's the stuff i'm actually searching for since My Users can choose between any Pie OS which contains from Firmware to Firmware different bloat if I'm not wrong. Looks like i need to wait for feedback....

S9 doesn't have quad DAC, for one.
I know you weren't asking for definition of bloatware, but you obviously needed one from your code example of classifying a 5 second useful shutdown animation as bloatware.

Not true. There are lots of features this phone has which have nothing to do with the OS running, like Qi wireless charging, which is not bloatware and reasons I bought this phone.
Features like Always On Display (AOD) -- not essential for OS to run -- are useful and are not bloatware.
If your bloatware philosophy is that stringent, that's what I find strange.

Question What to use to debloat unneeded apps?

What is the safest way to de-bloat the phone? What apps are people using to remove unneeded apps? For example I don't use Google TV. Is it safe to uninstall or just freeze? There is Systemless Debloater but I'm not sure if it's fully comparable.

I use Systemless Debloater.
In the begining I tested it on as many devices I could.
- Few Pixel(s), OnePlus(s), Motorola and Xiaomi devices.
- I know someone who is currently using it on a Samsung S20+ (now on Android 13).
The module was just recently updated to handle a new OnePlus (ColorOS ?) directory.
/system/my_bigball
Since it is systemless, it is safe and fairly easy to use.
The hardest part is finding the app name you want to debloate.
Cheers.
Edit:
PS.
I might be a little bias though.

I use SD Maid Pro and freeze apps, because a) it isn't possible to delete apps from the system partition, and b) it's safer than trying to remove the apps permanently.
+1 for the freeze option. Less likely to cause any issues and if it does, it's easy to unfreeze. Fwiw, 3C Toolbox also offers the freeze/unfreeze function as should most decent app managers. I'll let most factory included apps remain until they show up on my wake-lock more often than I think they should or is necessary. It's all about battery 4 me...the more my phone stays in light doze/doze or deep sleep WITHOUT causing any late or missing notifications the better. I try to stay in that 'sweet spot' as far as the battery goes.
even frozen apps still run. i have google play services and framework frozen and they still hammer my firewall.
makes you feel better about it though..

Question Debloating-still a thing?

Hi y’all
i have been lurking from quite long time here, it happened that I will receive my phone in the following days, and I was wondering if it was debloatable, I could not find any info on the s23 so I am asking here. thaks
Yes everything can be debloated using adb commands, Google universal android debloater gui github (free open source not as fancy) or adb app control (free with paid version that does a lot for your device)
Or Package Installer App

which list should I follow for minimal debloating? But not breaking too much,
it really depends on what you are trying to achieve...you can debloat Facebook and its croony apps, LinkedIn, onedrive, swiftkey, and any garbage google apps that don't interest you...I wouldn't advice removing Samsung wallet, pass, knox, bixby and the keyboard as these are tied very closely to the system and debloating these could break something at the system level...I learnt it the hard way and had to ODIN flash the stock rom.

They both have different degrees of how much debloat you want. They both also let you choose which items you want debloated. Universal android debloater gui gives you a description of what each thing is and does while adb app control let's you one click copy the package name to google it to see what the internet says about it

It is enough to do a factory reset, then all apps are back. I removed wallet, pass, bixby, keyboard, knox (kept only android.knox.mpos) and everything works.

Yes a factory reset brings them all back. There's no real way to completely remove the apps unless you unlock the bootloader and replace the recovery partition with something like twrp but without unlocking the bootloader you can't lose any apps forever

Universal android debloater gui has a download https://github.com/0x192/universal-android-debloater/releases/tag/0.5.1
Download either one that is an exe they both work on windows
I debloated mine the first day I got it. It had some bloat from T-Mobile and plenty of that Google bloat as well. Removing the Samsung keyboard can be done, you just have to install and set another keyboard to default first. I removed Samsung Messages, Samsung's keyboard, Samsung Pass, and Samsung Pay without any issues.
I remove or disable all the carrier crap that comes on the phone. The Verizon things, the random games, etc. The Samsung stuff I don't or won't use.
Beyond that, I'll disable a few things but otherwise leave things as is. The phones now are so much more powerful and everything optimized so much better, that having a bunch of superfluous apps and processes running really has very little impact.
On my old Droid X or LG G3 for example, I'd load a custom ROM that was basically stripped of everything other than essential processes and Google apps and it made a huge difference. But now, doing the same thing isn't going to make nearly the same kind of impact for most users. The stock experience is already fantastic and there isn't a whole lot of gains to be made by removing stuff.
