I had the s8+ exynos and it was great. I am torn after reading reviews, the 845 looks like the winner but it is locked down here in the US. Not sure there will be much development for the exynos as it is still early. The s9+ hardware is awesome but I am torn with the SOC, so those with the exynos what is your experience with battery life and performance?
Any thoughts appreciated...
I believe they are. I am currently testing both the Exynos and Snapdragon. I actually get better battery life on the Exynos in daily normal use. I beleive most of thsoe bad reviews of the exynos are based off of benchmarks and synthetic testing which dont always correlate to the real world. Im personally seeing much much better battery life on the exynos. However I am seeing other weird quirks about the exynos that bother me such as poor reception on tmobile and slower speeds side by side with the snapdragon version. Im also seeing call drops on the exynos that arent on the snapdragon and now I see the exynos doesnt record 4k 60 unless your in auto exposure which is not the case on the snapdragon. Weird quirky things.

I am on tmo, so that is concerning- it seems to have all the bands except 71 so I wonder what the difference is...

I dont even have band 71 in my area yet. Should not be an issue but something is holding this phone back.
Anyone else?
Well, if you flash a custom kernel on the exynos it is miles faster than the snapdragon while still having 6 hours SOT =)
5 hours SOT 20% left after having all these benchmarks ran atleast twice.
Like you see on top, wifi, but, 4g, entertainment mode, and, GPS, etc is all on all day and screen always on high brightness.
Those scores are what you get when you remove the nerf that samsung implemented for the exynos not to crush the snapdragon. Exynos runs 2.7ghz 1 core, 2.3ghz 2 cores, 1.7ghz 4 cores. Custom kernel like what I installed and I am running 2.9ghz on all cores. Like you see on the antutu score, max temperature was 41°C
No idea how it is for carriers on the US, but exynos is the miles better chip.
I have not rooted or flashed anything custom. Mine is still 100% stock and I can say the Exynos version has much much better battery life. Now that I have had 2 full days with the exynos I know for sure its much better in battery life than my snapdragon was. In screen off time this thing uses little to no power. My snapdragon seems to just kill 6-8% per hour min with screen off while my exynos is about 1% an hour with screen off. Both running same apps. Yesterday I barely even touched the snapdragon and it was just sitting there in hibernation mode while I used the exynos all day with videos and texts and calls and it still had the same battery percentage at the end of day.
Thanks guys, the only thing holding me back at this point is the dropped calls/signal issues reported in this thread, but I am probably still in...

I really really really hope samsung fixes this. My only solution now is to call people using google hangouts or duo or viber. Otherwise calls are very very spotty and pretty much guaranteed to skip out or completely drop all together. Trust me i am trying to run my own business and this is extremely important for me. With the number of people reporting this issue I hope to god samsung fixes this.
I ran UX Benchmark app on stock firmware SM-G9650 Snapdragon. Was expecting a bit lower score than Exynos variants but this wasn't the case. Topped the chart versus all phones. SOT is typically 5 - 6 hours. In real life usage I'm not sure there's a huge difference in overall performance between the chipsets.
Not sure about that benchmark app, results don't make much sense.

I love my Exynos. No issues here other than Cricket being slow, but that is the case with all my devices on their network.
I can easily get through an entire day on it without charging. I just choose not to.
Performance wise, it is by far the fastest phone I have ever used.
My exynos is ****. 4 hours sot. 18-24 hours total.
6 hours SOT with everything that matters on, wifi/4g. Lasts the day and the phone feels very fluid and fast. Expect battery life and performance to only get better as developers fix the issues in the kernel.
Let me contradict a few here. I had exynos as I'm in the uk, it was ok. Tried snapdragon version, better gpu and so far better battery too I'm finding.
I have two power saving features on, -10% lowered screen brightness, and restricted background data access sometimes, at work
Exynos gave me 7 to 8 hours sot, for me that was better than expected
Snapdragon is so far about 10 hours sot on this charge cycle, but more often about 8 to 9 hours sot! 8 with around 10 to 15% battery left
I really don't know how the snapdragon is doing it but I'm surprised! Especially today the battery just isn't draining, I have no idea what I'm doing differently. Dare I say snapdragon is slightly snappier?
Location high accuracy on all the time
All I know is that the battery on my S9+ Exynos is WAY better than the Pixel 2 XL that it just replaced.

All I know is right now this thing is doing better than my mate 10 pro! Omg! Something must be wrong with this phone. I'm afraid to restart it in case this things stops sipping battery the way it is
9hrs sot with 21% battery left and I'm not sure exactly why or how tbh. Snapdragon
hi , i had S9 Plus EXY version for two weeks after i used LG V30 Plus but yesterday i returned back to my LG V30 Plus for the following reasons that you might look into
1- i am facing call dropping which was unusual and during some calls the sound disappear for 10 sec and i feel that the call is going to be terminated but it returned back again this was happening in the same palces i used my old phones in this means that the problem from S9+ and today i tried in the LG and all calls were clear and i didn't face any problems
2- i noticed that the switching between 4g and 3g which should go automatically is crazy since at the same moment i can see the phone changing from 4g to 3g rapidly and i felt that the internet connection is slow and taking long time than ever
3- Battery life was disappointed hardly complete a day even after i reduced the screen resolution and turned off AOD I am getting 18 hours battery life with only 5HOURS SOT
Pros
1- sound quality in earphones / Bluetooth also the stereo speakers
2- camera is superior
3- screen is amazing
Im Using the exynos model and there is a little overheating issue in battery..i used a xperia xz pro and the battery temp was always around 30 degrees..even though the processor was far more higher..in this I'm getting around 35 degrees for battery as well as the processor..feels warm sometimes..anyone facing same issues? Ambient temperature is 28 degrees
i am a LG V10 user. now i wanna upgrade. especially am looking for better screen(vibrant), battery performance, with sd card support, ir blaster, camera in low light(i love shoot pics in low light my v10 performs good), custom rom support atleast want root and custom recovery, etc., i searched for a better upgrade finally i cornered this mate 10. i never ever used any huawei device before. is mate 10 worth upgrade?.
i want some real time experience replies,
1. how is the sreen visibilty in sunlight?.(v10 is not that great in sunlight). both are ips lcd and with same resolution also. is the screen colour looks vibrant than v10?.
2. how's the battery performance?.(v10 is horrible in battery performance, SOT rarely touches 4hrs)
3. how's audio performance in earphones(is stock earphone sounds better)?. with hifi dac in v10 audio performance is good with high impedance earphones.
4. any heat issues after playing games or watching videos for long time.(my v10 crosses 45C after half an hour of gaming. in outdoor can't think about gaming or streaming videos, with the help of SD 808 proccy can make sandwich for breakfast).
5. any screen retention(ghost image) or bootloop issues(v10 is popular in bootloop issue, search google).
6. call reception, data connectivity and wifi performance?.

1. The screen is readable in sunlight because the phone has good brightness.
2. The 4000mAh should get you a day and a half with light-moderate use. I have about 5-6 hours SOT
3. The audio with headphone jack is pretty good but I heard the bluetooth is terrible.
4. The phone stays pretty cool even after hours of streaming. Playing games gets warm but not hot.
5. No bootloop issues unless you mess with the bootloader or if you mess up while updating the firmware manually.
6. All good
Do not upgrade. Software is crap camera is crap updates don't fix anything and break more things then you wait months for another update. Random reboots too. Only Good thing is screen and battery life.

I won't recommend this phone I'd stay with lg

The same here. One of the best phones. Speed, screen, batery, very good for me.
These are all opinions but I will say I have a Pixel 2 XL, had the s9+, and other devices I switch up.
I just picked up the Mate 10 Pro as an open box on sale at Best Buy in excellent (not even used) condition and I can honestly say it's one of the best Android phones I've ever used. Battery life is the real deal I can get 6-7 hours SOT easily. I like some of the features the software provides, and the call quality is outstanding. Like the speaker set-up. The full screen with the navigation dock is awesome.
I really like that the screen is mostly flat and not curved like the Samsung's, and even my Pixel 2 XL. Colors are very natural, quality is much better than my Pixel 2 XL.
Of course nothing is perfect I do wish it had wireless charging, and offered a Quad HD option like others.

thank you for your detailed info about the phone. just am looking for a phone with good dispaly, good speed for daily activities, especially less heat(really i burnt my hands after using v10), bluetooth, i use it very rarely so it's not a problem for me.
if the bootloader is unlockable then it's a boon for custom recovery and rooting(i requested lg so many times to unlock the bootloader of my v10 varaint but they never listened to me - dumbass).
my main usage are calls via VoLTE, data and wifi connectivity and some social media apps.

good that you have nice experience with lg. but for me not like you i don't like their policy. it's worst than (cr)appple policy. lg promised that v10 will receive every month security update but, after nougat update till now not even single update was released. unlocking bootloader and rooting is a mirage. my v10 is already suffering from screen retention, overheat and lagging issues. i don't know when my v10 going to face the infamous bootloop issue. fingers crossed :fingers-crossed:

nice, you got a excellent condition open box mate 10. hope you enjoying much with it. yes, nothing is perfect me also missing the removeable battery.

I have the pro version so the experience may be a bit different from regular Mate 10.
1. Mate 10 Pro has AMOLED screen. It's VERY bright and the color is quite good.
2. Battery is very good. It can last a day of heavy usage (playing Pokemon Go for hours) or 2 days of light usage.
3. The audio quality for wired headphone is ok. It's not bad, and depending on the type of music you listen to, the Huawei Histen sound effects may slightly improve the experience. However, it has the typical Android SRC issue (all outputs are re-sampled to 48khz/16bit). This means that if you have Hi-Res music files (96khz/24bit), the audio signal will be down-sampled and becomes the same or even worse than CD quality (44.1khz/16bit). AFAIK, LG V10, when using stock player, doesn't have this down-sampling issue. I don't have any non-Huawei phones to compare, but my FiiO X7 (professional Hi-Res audio player) definitely has better audio quality than Mate 10 Pro (I use Sennheiser IE800 IEM). There are also some issues with Bluetooth audio. When using AptX-compatible bluetooth headphones, there is a small pulsing noise when music just starts.
4. No heat issue at all.
5. If you don't unlock Bootloader and try to install un-released firmware, you won't experience any bootloop.
6. Pretty good. Be sure to check if your carieer's frequencies are compatible with the phone.
EDIT: grammar
Of course it does

I recently am getting a deal on purchasing a moto z with the turbopower mod at just about 12000 rs. / 180 usd , should i buy it or not?
My queries usually whirl around these pointers....
1.how good is the battery life? (sot and standby) after the last oreo update.
2.is the snapdragon 820 so much powerful over the sd 625 of the moto z play to force me make difficult choice ,despite the loss of battery life?
3.shall the battery suffice for half a day if my usage covers up around the instagram, youtube,a little bit of photography and movies playback on it?
4.so even if the battery lasts for atleast a half working day, would the mod be able to top up my phone, just enough to suffice my same usage for the rest of the day so that i wont have the need of reaching the charger for 2nd time in that day.
If you have the Turbopower Mod it should definitely last you at least a day. Without I usually get around 3 hours of sot. Yes, the battery capacity is tiny, but the mod doubles it basically. Concerning the performance: I think it's more future proof to buy a device with a little bit more power. Also, if you suddenly do something a little more demanding, this should help too. Even though the CPU is two generations older, it's still a very capable performer. The deal you got is very tempting and affordable, but I don't know if you should take it.
Snapdragon 820 walks over the SD625 when it comes to performance, and for that price, it's definitely worth it.
There are stronger phones of course, but at 180 $ nothing beats it. Heck, I can't think of a better phone for under 400$.
I've not seen any discussion on battery life since the launch of the Note 10. Would people please share:
1. How is it now that there's been time for Samsung to fix early issues
2. Did Android 10 upgrade help?
3. Does it last through a day of heavy use?
4. Snapdragon or Exynos?
More info: I'm considering buying the Note 10 but the original reviews are mixed. Some say battery life is good but most say it's disappointing. It would be to replace an iPhone XS that is 12 months old, battery health is a shocking 84% and the SoT time is less than 3 hours, so I won't be buying any more overpriced junk from Apple. I'm in the UK so would be getting the Exynos unless I take a risk and grey import a Snapdragon, and live without the warranty.
More battery life is *always* better, but I really have no complaints about my Note 10 battery. It lasts all day, every day. I average 5.5 hours SOT, but it would get a lot more if I pushed it below 10% charge. However, I rarely let it drop below 30%, or fully charge to 100%. I try to take it off the charger between 60-80% to preserve long-term battery life. So while 5.5 hours SOT may seem low to other Note users, I am averaging 5.5 hours SOT from only a 50-70% charge, which is pretty damn good imo.
I disabled some apps that I'll never use, but otherwise I don't need to gimp it to make it through the day. I noticed a slight improvement in battery life with Android 10. I don't do much gaming, but I do a lot of web browsing, YouTube, and listen to Google Play Music and Sirius XM, and it has no problems lasting a full day.
I have the Snapdragon model. I don't have any experience with the Exynos model, but if you are in the UK, then I would recommend going with Exynos just for the warranty. There may be some YouTube videos comparing the battery and performance differences, you may want to look for those. I remember a couple of years ago the Exynos models were noticeably worse as far as battery, but I think the latest Exynos chips have closed the gap.
If battery life is a top priority, then you should consider the Note 10+ which has 23% larger battery (4300 vs 3500 mAh).
One last thing to consider: The Galaxy S20 models are right around the corner. I am not trying to talk you out of a Note, but if you can live without the Spen, you might want to wait for the Galaxy S20 Plus and Ultra. The Plus model is supposed to have a 4500 mAh battery, and the Ultra is rumored to have a massive 5000 mAh battery.

Thanks for taking the time to reply - appreciate it. Sounds like our usage patterns are similar. I don’t really game but I use web and media on public transport for a couple of hours a day, in poor signal areas so every phone I’ve had struggles.
Am trying to keep phone size down, the Note 10 Plus is definitely too big! I like the fact that with the standard Note 10 it’s almost the same size as my current iPhone XS, just 5mm taller.
Re graduating (haha) I’ve had android before. Before this iPhone I had the OnePlus 5T and really liked it until I changed cars and it completely refused to talk to the audio system.
I found a YouTube video comparing the Qualcomm and Exynos Note 10’s and in his test he got 7 hrs from the Exynos and 8hrs from the Snapdragon. Wow, bit of a difference.
Will see what the S20 (standard size) is like, and then decide whether to risk an imported Note 10 [emoji106]
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Correction, the video of the Snapdragon getting another hour of screen time is the S10, not the Note 10, which means the Exynos is the 8nm 9820 rather than the 9825 in the Note.

So i got my Exynos note10 (not a new one, a used one but in a good shape) a week ago running android Q, and the battery drain was a little bit higher than average (compared to what people claiming in the battery section). So i decided to do a fresh reset by flashing a firmware using odin, after that i did some optimizations, disabling features that i dont really need, debloating some apps and waiting for the phone to learn my battery usage pattern (it took me around 4-5 days). So now I can get 7 to 8 hours of SOT using Chrome as my web browser, social media apps, and youtube. So yeah i think the 3500 mah battery is doing a pretty good job.
That’s really good, lots of owners don’t get that out of the Plus model

So the first thing i did was to flash a stock firmware and root it using magisk. Then i charged my phone until it get 100%, i use it until it dies and cannot get booted again (when the phone dies keep rebooting it until it cannot get rebooted again). I did the charging and discharging thing twice. I think this step is like calibrating your battery, correct me if I am wrong.
Then thanks to this post : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10/how-to/galaxy-note-10-note-10-plus-debloat-t3964225 i debloated Bixby, samsung pass / pay , samsung sticker center... Do this step at your own risk because you can brick your phone if you didnt choose correctly what to debloat.
Then i enabled Adaptive power saving, put unused apps to sleep, Optimise Battery usage and i restricted background activity and i use dark mode all the time.
I disabled Air action and all features related to S pen ( i only use s pen for writing).
You may not notice a big difference in the battery life until your phone learns usage pettern ("Learning pattern" usage becomes "An estimated time" in device care battery's section)
If you are on a rooted phone then you can use greenify to hibernate other apps.
Additional information, my phone battery drains from like 100% to 80% much quicker and then it start to go slower and slower because each battery behaves in a different way.
Took another look at the Note 10 today and think it's an absolutely stunning looking device. Best looking phone around for me. I noted in the Samsung store that they don't offer any sort of satisfaction guarantee, which is disappointing. Would have been tempted to take one if I had some insurance on the battery life not working out.
But the S20 has now launched, and it's impressive from a specs point of view. Time to see how the S20 reviews play out.

Yes, the S20 phones are phenomenal, especially the S20 Ultra. Which means the Note 11/20 will be an absolute beast

You are wrong this is really old battery habits. For several years and actual battery tech it's not recommended to fully discharge , the best way to improve battery life is to stay over 20% and avoid fast charging. That is also not how phone calibrates batteries.

Battery life on the Snapdragon Note 10+ has been great. It stayed consistent with the Android 10 update. I had the Note 8 before this phone, and I'd have to say the 10+ is better.
Indeed the difference is not so abysmal as before

Correction, the video of the Snapdragon getting another hour of screen time is the S10, not the Note 10, which means the Exynos is the 8nm 9820 rather than the 9825 in the Note.

Actually, there is a comparison for Note 10+ Exynos vs Snapdragon and indeed, the difference in battery is now minimal, of course the weak point for the Exynos is still the Mali GPU. So it looks like for power comsuption is now more even between Exynos 9825 and Snapdragon 855 (which is kind of obvious since both are 7nm)

Interesting thanks.
One of the things I’ve been bitten with on iPhones is the effect on battery life of the inferior Intel modems they’ve been using for the last few years. I went from an iPhone SE to an Xs and the difference in signal strength was definitely noticeable, and that will affect power consumption too.
I’m not saying this is the same with the Exynos modem but do tend to think that at this point, Qualcomm modems are the better

Hey guys I was actually scouting for new devices when I found a unboxed but new edge 30 pro for a great price. So my question is, is it a good device and should I even consider buying it. Also on the same point how is the battery life which is my greatest worry considering the 8 gen 1 in it. And how is the stock ui been.
Thank you !
Welp, phone seems pretty nice,
But 5000mAh battery scares me.
its not worth it, battery life is atrocious, updates are the worst in Android world, has no telephoto whatsoever, if u are into stock just get Pixel or Oneplus
OnePlus seems to be a problematic about its firmware and productivity,
Redmi or poco would be nice
Samsung would be nice too.
OnePlus with custom rom is considered best + it's snapdragon not overheating Tensor mess, Xiaomi with AOSP if any for newer devices, is trash and is best used with MIUI ( noone really likes that )
Of course it is, Xiaomi phones only indeed to work nicely with MIUI,
My battery lasts easily 1 day, sometimes up to 2, I really have no clue why are people complaining - are y'all running with all your services turned on constantly?...
literally everyone who owns a motorola device is complaining in their official forums so you gotta be using it for phone calls only and not as a top dog smart device, the drain on that thing is insane, if i bring my old Snapdragon 865 device running both @ 144hz , Moto will be fully dead while the other will be at over 60%
US equivalent is Edge+2022
A13 has battery improved, but it has minor flickering issue due to inconsistent brightness on different refresh rate. Set it on 60 or 144Hz can avoid the issue

I don't complain. I have Moto device (mid-range) and it has been very good since 2019. Month ago i changed new battery and now it's still good for next three years
Battery life is also great. 2 days easily and 7-8H sot usually with 60% usage.

I would not buy Edge 30 Pro because Edge 40 Pro is so much better. Atleast specs.

Ah i see, yeah i would love to do that but the reason i was considering the edge 30 pro was due to a fantastic deal. After some days of researching i beleive this is a good device with a minor caviate being the battery life
Hopefully once i do get the device the battery wouldn't be too much of an issue, and i don't find any other skeltons in the closet. (Maybe i might even be pleasently suprised by the battery life considering my 888 is not a high bar to clear)

Okay, so if like it then buy it
I don't think that battery life is your problem. I think 8 gen 1 heating could be problem.

Ah, i see from what i have read though even with the x30 being an inferno, the edge 30 pro was quite good with head management, i hope that statement is actually true and not just reviewer fluff
there is no heat management, device is very plasticky and thus has no vapor chamber solution, heat is not an issue, battery suffers from poor governors, if u are buying from china unlock bootloader and use it with custom rom
