Earpiece scratches and Gear VR - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys. I used to use Gear VR and apparently it put scratches on the earpiece which sucks. Poor design choices by Samsung both on the VR and the phone.
Is there any work around to this? Like can I use sandpaper to even it out since it seems chrome coated plastic to me. I am a little bit OC and it just bugs me everytime that cheap scratched plastic earpiece stares me in the face.
I hate Samsung for putting that cheap piece of thing there like wth. This is a $700 phone and that easily scratched piece is up front.
Can i have it replaced? Just the fake metal earpiece? Thanks guys.

[Q] Vibrant scratched... Bezel polishable?

I have the tmo tpu case, which is pretty decent. However, dust and friction seem to have scuffed the bezel and back plate. I plan on getting the hybrid tpu case and hopefully the tighter fit will keep my phone safer.
My question is, has anyone else experienced this and tried to polish the scuffs out? Is it even possible? I looked online and can't find anywhere that sells the bezel. I have looked and found a replacement back plate, but I'm more worried about the bezel.
Sounds stupid and anal, but this is an expensive phone and I've got a good screen protector and case. I like the quality of the glass but am disappointed by the build of the rest of the shell of this thing.
Prior to this, I had a g1 that I kept safe and scratch free other than one drop with just an invisishield kit for 2 years. I love this phone but it is fragile.
Try a metal-polishing cloth--NO CHEMICALS!
I saw a vibrant on display at a tmobile store and the bezel had been nicked and the shiny part was starting to peel off just like it was foil, so id be real careful rubbing on it. Personally id rather have no "chrome" at all, especially if its not real.

polish plastic
Any plastic that is scratched can be polished, it depends how deep it is. Semichrome polish will do it, but make sureto test as some plastics can react to the chemical that is in the polish and it possibly could stain the finish. i ll post the other methods on "how to polish plastic".

Just Bought the Seidio Active Case

I just purchased the Seidio Active case from Amazon. This is the site. When I ordered from Amazon, I made sure to get the same product ID number. It should arrive next week. I'll let you know how it is.
Jim
Received the case today. I have never owned a Seidio case before. It is the Active case. To fit the phone in, you have to remove the hard plastic exo-skeleton from the soft rubbery case. You then slip the phone into the soft rubbery case and then fit the exo-skeleton around that. It fastens at each corner and in the middle of the long sides.
The microphone hole at the top is about half covered by the soft rubbery case. I think I can make the hole bigger with a paper clip or something sharp. The bottom microphone hole is perfect. The plastic exo-skeleton has a bit of a rubbery grip to it. It doesn't slide into my pocket as easily as the old silicon case I had.
The thing that bothers me the MOST is the lip around the phone face. It sits fairly high off the screen of the phone. It's irritating to hit the space bar on the keyboard when in landscape mode. Of course, I'll get used to it. It's definitely better than the silicon case from Worst Buy. I just wish that Speck made a candyshell case for this phone. It'd be an instant purchase for me.
Just got mine from eBay. I had o e for my cappy and loved it

Can you use an invisible shield with this?

Good luck, I used an Innocase on my Captivate and was rewarded with a lot of scratches and scuffs on the body of the phone.
With cases like these, you should occasionally take them off to clean out the dust that gets trapped in and causes those scuffs.

I don't know. I'm guessing no, since most other cases don't have the room. I'm also not sure how this phone could get scratched due to dust between the case and the phone. The case is soft rubber, so it's unlikely to get scratched. I'm still trying to get used to putting this in my pocket. haha

Perhaps line the edges with petroleum jelly :]

So I discovered that my voice sounds muffled when I have the case on. I removed the case and sounded better. So I guess I have to adjust the hole in the soft rubber. Not sure how best to do it.

Get a small screw driver/normal sized nail and heat it up on the stove or with a lighter. Works great. Just be quick so that rest of the plastic doesn't start to melt.

I actually took a clicker pen, and 'unfolded' the soft silicon over a piece of paper on a plastic cutting board. I placed the hole of the clicker pen over the spot I wanted to "punch out." I twisted both the pen and paper/silicon case combination until it popped out the piece I wanted. It worked amazingly well. I didn't want to use heat as I didn't want the case to look melty. If I had a pen with a metal clicker end (instead of plastic) I could have repeated the procedure again. The secondary mic is not between the I9100 and I777 holes, it's more to the right of those holes. Either way, it's working much better now.
As far as a screen protector...I've had no issues with them not fitting or needing to be modified so that it would fit.

I ordered a couple of these, should be here in a few days.
I got them off of Ebay instead of Amazon, $20 with free shipping for the black one, $23 shipped for the burgundy one.
I'm not sure I'm very happy with this case. I can't talk on the phone without someone telling me I sound muffled and 'far away'.
Well I should be receiving mine today in the mail I hope I don't have the same problems but if I do I'm a tear that whole wide open so that it gets good sound LOL...
Which hole do you think is the culprit the one by the upper microphone or the lower microphone?

I'm starting to think it's both. I'll make my bottom mic hole larger a little later. Something sure is funky.
My girlfriend got hers several days ago, mine is caught up in shipping. I have not noticed any muffled sound from her phone. She sounds crystal clear. She's running a stock SGSII with this case and no screen protector (doesn't come with one unfortunately).
Got my case today I'll have my 3 cents in a few days....

Note 3 Replacement Battery Cover

Even the Galaxy Note 3 have made a great improvement on the leather battery cover instead of traditional plastic ones, for once apple iPhone fans like me maybe also impressive on aluminum battery cover, which seems of somewhat metal texture and reflect the technology impression, will you use a metal or PC replacement battery cover ?

It's actually leather look plastic, it does look far better then the cheap high gloss plastic finish. Would be nice if samsung actually made a premium finish handset for once with LCD screen. Doubt they will ever do that as they have far too much plastic and amoled to get rid off.
Anyway aluminium back cover would be brilliant.
Most users use some kind of cover for their phones so I simply don't care of it is plastic or metal or cryptonite because all get scratched so better be safe with a cover find there what you need.

An aluminum cover would mess with NFC, Qi charging, WiFi signals, and cell signals. By the time they engineered their way around all that it would add cost along with the extra weight.
It also seems like scratches look just as bad on aluminum as on plastic. YMMV!
Of course, I'll be happy when they invent plastics that don't scratch so easily.

Not to mention the plastic band around the perimeter of the phone. Unless it's "all shiny and stuff" through-and-through, I'd expect that to be the part of the phone that really starts to look crappy when it gets dinged, and not so easy to replace.

I-blason tempered glass 0.2mm protector!

Just got it in the mail today. Install went smooth very simple to install. Glass it's thin but works great with my tpu case.
Came with alcohol pad
Fiber cloth
Hard card for bubbles
And glass
Feels like I have nothing on my phone, and so far I don't have any trouble with the screen recognizing my touch. And no problems with my tpu case with it on! Recommended it to anybody who can get their hands on it!

Pics as promise!
I got the same one, I can hardly tell there is a screen protector on the phone at all.

It really is. It's like I'm running the phone naked. The only time I'm reminded of it is when I go caseless.
Really? I have this and am not impressed at all. Yes it feels nice. Yes it installed very easily with no bubbles. What bothers me is the fit and without radii edges. It's very visible white edges. It's not even close to the edge of the glass and it doesn't cover the camera, LED, and light sensors. Replacements are on the way...
Yes maybe you got a bad batch. But I don't have any problems with rough edges. Mine doesn't fit all the way to edge but very very close but I like that it's like this because of my tpu case I didn't want it to rub up against it to lift it allowing dust in between the protector.
Which could be how they made it in the first place who knows!
Also yes the camera led and speaker aren't covered but it's so close to it that I don't see this area being scratched unless you are running without a case.

Yep, probably the very reason it doesn't fit the screen well.
I'm running a Spigen Slim Armor case, The cases bezel around the screen just covers the plastic edge of the phone, not the glass, which I like very much. I'm not a fan when a case covers glass because it can interfere with trying to select certain things on the screen. So it is more apparent when a screen protector doesn't quite go to the edge of the glass. The white edges and die cut around the camera, LED, and sensors make it that much worse too, unfortunately.
See mine was cut longer on the sides and the bottom so the only gap I have is the top part where they intentionally left uncovered.
Looks to me that there different batches with some weird cuts. You said you getting a replacement from them? Or did you mean you are ordering from a different company?

Well it didn't last long at all! Still recommended it because of how it protect my screen. But I was washing my car guess I bump into something when I was cleaning the ride and this happen.......

Icarer leather case

Have just ordered one of these for the edge
Anyone had one of these
If so what do you think of it ?
Love it. Looks fantastic. Molds around the shape of the Edge nicely. The front cover doesn't secure, but I haven't had any issues with it staying closed either. It isn't meant for total drop protection, but it does keep the front clean and you can talk on the phone with it closed, so you don't have to worry about cheek smudges or accidentally hitting buttons. I definitely recommend it.
Nice to know just hope there is enough protection but I'm not one to disrespect my phone

It's protected as long as the front cover doesn't open and it lands face down...but what's the chance of that happening with a $700 phone, right? I dropped only one phone in my life, a HTC Hero fell off my lap getting out of a car and smashed the screen. Ever since then I haven't as much a scratched the screen on any of my phones. I only use leather folio cases because they look better than any of the other alternatives (IMHO). This particular case in the vintage brown leather, coupled with the Gold S7 Edge, just looks incredible. AND it charges wirelessly through the case, without any issues.
Its not edge section.
