EDIT:
I simply can not get into the bootloader on the H831 lol.
adb / fastboot devices never shows anything. Win 10 64bit. Have installed LG USB drivers. Have enabled usb debug and allow oem unlock.
----------------------------------------------------
I am referring to this link: http://www.androidinfotech.com/2016/06/root-lg-g5-canada-h831-601-marshmallow.html
After a quick google search, this result comes up for rooting the H831. But, I don't see anything about this on xda - my trusted source for all android development. Is it possible that a rooting method for the H831 specifically has been found and xda doesn't know about it ? My current suspicion is about the 'all versions' bootloader unlock.
Let me know what you guys think. I may risk the dangers of attemping to root my Canadian LG G5 (Rogers). But if anyone has any insight to this process if it may be fatal to my phone, speak up or forever hold your peace lol.
:good: :good: :highfive:
currently the model you own can not be rooted unless there will be an exploit developed
but you will need to wait for that
also, please post in proper section
I have the same phone and anxiously await root. I have found if you put it into MIDI mode and enable USB debugging it will respond to ADB commands. However it still will not reboot into the bootloader.
I've noticed though that after sending 'reboot bootloader' command that it briefly shows up as an unidentified device in Windows Device Manager. I hope someone is working on this too!
Yep, waiting as well.
My experience with the G3 was that we got root a little bit after AT&T and then the VZW and Sprint models usually take the longest. Not sure how it's going to be this time around.

Canadian LG G5 H831 Root solution found?
I also just picked up the H831, also on Rogers. Any updates on a working root solution since the last post in July 2016? Thanks!
I am also looking for Rooting my LG G5 H831
Then I'd like to get TWRP Working, and MultiRom app, to Install Plasma Mobile in multiboot
but I am open to suggestions if there is a better way

OK, So I purchased this LG Treasure about a month ago and of course. I'd like to root it, Problem is Tracfone has this thing locked down tight. the bootloader/Recovery is not accessable. If you do the volume down/power button combo, it only brings you to a Factory date rest option. . I went to LG support and had a chat with them. I was informed by the tech that the bootloader access has been disabled. I asked if there was a way to enable access and he said that there is a way but he is not allowed to tell me and suggested that i come here to inquire. So i am hoping some here might be able to help, I don't even care if brick this device , it's worthless as is. Adb will see the device but fastboot will not leading me to think it's disabled by the carrier as the tech suggested. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Some one please point me in the right direction with anything i can try . Thanks All.
thank you..

Thank you so much for posting this question as I have that same issue. Your question was well put. Yet no one has responded. I hope there is a solution to this issue. :good:
these questions regarding the rooting of the lg treasure, which is my phone ironically, brings us to 1 definate answer, and that is that tf already knows how to unlock the bootloader, and thus, root the phone. it seems logical if any other tf/st phone has a similar os/locked bootloader that has been rooted, we might try those, or find someone recently seperated from the employment of tf who may spill the beans perse. just my input.

Thank you for giving me some hope lol. But still I have had no luck rooting this phone. Pretty aggravating. It's a decent phone and all. Sad they ruin it by locking it.
oem unlock
Did you first go and turn on oem unlock in the developers section of the phone? It is required by many phones under loli to unlock the bootloader. Might need to turn on usb debugging too in order for fastboot to be able to access the bootloader to get root on the phone.
My OEM unlock option has been enabled. However I have had no luck at all rooting this phone. It's unfortunate. Again I'm asking any developers available to please work on this project. The LG treasure is a very popular phone. Not only because of the price, But the features the phone has. Please I have done my best getting this phone to root.. But I'm out of ideas.
I have the lg rebel 2 lte and same problem. There is of course a way, their official unlocking policy is they'll grant us the unlock after a year of service paid. So they charge you for the device then charge you for a whole year for full access to said device. $$$
But lg has an official developer thing now where they'll email you the unlock.bin file to unlock it.
However the only; and I can't stress this enough, the ONLY problem is they've coded the bootloader to skip fastboot entirely. Somewhere between the first and second splash screen the bootloader and fastboot are working, soon as it shows the tracfone logo that's when you know its booting android. I have yet to figure out how to read the logs of the boot process to see how.
Yes, enable oem unlock and usb debugging.
However everyone with a new lg phone under any of the tracfone subsidiaries will find that those options don't matter. There must be a dialer code for the bootloader deal.
Hello, I just got a used V30 US998 from B&H Photo, my first LG phone. I tried to unlock the bootloader but when I reboot into bootloader I get this screen that says Welcome to fastboot for bootloader unlock (image bellow) but no fastboot commands work and the only options I have with the volume buttons are RESTART or POWER OFF. I am I missing something? has anyone come across this? So far I tried a hard reset, I flashed the oem rom with LGUP with no luck. Any Help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

How are you trying to unlock the bootloader? You have to flash the unlock.bin file given to you by the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list, after you've entered the IMEI and DEVICE-ID (and it was verified as being eligible) after you've created an LG developer account.
Have you done all that?
You can't just walk up to the phone and OEM unlock the bootloader.
From that screen you're on in your picture, you flash the unlock.bin file with a fastboot flash command.

B&H Photo wouldn't sell used U.S.Cellular model phone.
I can't tell if he says he bought it from B&H Photo directly, or the person he bought it from claims they bought it from B&H Photo?
If the latter, does he have any proof from the seller it's actually from B&H Photo? If he bought it himself from there, then he knows for sure.

Thank you for the replies. To clarify your legit questions, I bought the phone directly from B&H and even called LG to confirm it is an unlocked open market US998 and is under warranty. I've always had HTC phones and always unlocked and rooted them etc... LG is new to me but I am somewhat familiar with the process bootloader unlock is very similar to HTC. Back to the bootloader issue yes I did everything you mentioned other then getting the unlock code Bin file from LG because I can't get the device-ID from the phone since it wont go into fastboot mode it wont do anything when I issue fastbood commands in that screen. and yes I read everything I can read about doing this and tried everything I can think of, but of course I can't think of everything! it could be a very simple thing I am missing. I read somewhere that, that screen is a debug bootloader. also when I reboot into recovery using ADB command it says "NO COMMANDS HERE" if I remember correctly. it's very frustrating when you can't void the warranty on your phone!!! Again I appreciate the responses.

Problem solved. The issue was a missing driver in windows 7. I am attaching the driver in case anyone runs into the same problem just double click "install.exe" after extracting the zip then connect the phone reboot into bootloader and you should see Fastboot in device manager, now Fastboot commands should work. Thanks to everyone that responded.
Just want to say that this is the ONLY answer that worked for me, out of countless pages of irrelevant or bad advice. The file above will fix the "Other devices: Android" missing device when in fastboot mode on Windows 7. Fastboot will then see your LG-V30.

WTF Troubleshooting Tip #7.
No need to go through countless pages of irrelevant or bad advice. . Glad you found it, but it's posted in the WTF INSTRUCTIONS Troubleshooting Tips for good reason. @FZZF is thanked there also.
Well yeah I guess that's true. Most of the bad advice was from across the Internet over there, not from here of course.
I'd suggest to always make it a habit of typing 'fastboot devices' or 'adb devices' whenever you connect the device to your pc.
If (either of) those commands don't respond with a listing of your device name / number... then the pc can't see the device. That's a
pc driver problem.
Cheers, keep it simple.

I believe I have the correct drivers. At least Windows is recognizing my device as a LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (COM41) when it's booted to download mode. Screen shows Firmware Upgrade. My problem is with the LG FlashTool 2014.
The LGFlashtool2014 fails with "connection to server failed". I waited for over an hour at times but it goes to 4%, then backs off. I've tried it many times(on 2 different computers) and yes I have the device in download mode and allowed USB debugging(Although I don't think USB debugging is needed in download mode). I have the correct file for my device V40010c_00.kdz Or is there another tool that can flash with a .kdz file?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
UPDATE: LG G Pad 7 v400 wifi Android 5.0.1 is aka LGLK430. My board is Sprint but no place to put in a sim card so I assumed it was just wifi. From what I can tell this tablet shipped with Android 5.0(The wifi only version shipped with Android 4.4) so it can not likely be downgraded to Android 4.4 as no firmware exists. So there is no way to unlock the bootloader.
To anyone with an LG G Pad 7 LGLK430 Sprint variant.... DoNOT use ANY firmware that is not specifically for the Sprint variant! You'll brick your device. If you find one with kitkat, please let me know.
Hi Everyone,
I just upgraded from a Samsung S5 to an LG Stylo 5 LG LM-Q720VS (Verizon US). Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm looking for general information about the phone I've searched for "LG Stylo 5" and Q720VS and not had much luck. Is there an XDA forum for the Stylo 5? Is it just really that unpopular?
I'm specifically looking to Unlock the Bootloader Install TWRP, and LineageOS (or any rom without Verizon Bloat) and have root.
Thanks for reading, Happy 2020!

Verizon device have locked bootloaders, this prevents a lot of Verizon devices from ever gaining root and the bootloader can't be unlocked, which means TWRP and Magisk can never be safely flashed on your device. The only hope that Verizon devices have of being rooted is if one of the universal rooting apps on android and the universal rooting programs on PC just happens to have an exploit that works on the device in question.
All I can say is try all of these apps and programs that you can find and hope for the best, you might get lucky, but I doubt it. Don't ask for examples of these apps and programs, there are too many to name, just look for as many different kinds of rooting apps/programs that you can find and try them.
My REAL advice is, if you like rooting and customizing your devices, you need to completely avoid buying Verizon devices and choose non-Verizon devices. If you are on the Verizon network, you would be better off to look on Swappa and find an unlocked/unlockable device that can be used on the Verizon network that also has root, TWRP and custom ROMs available. It is always best to do your research to see what devices have root and custom support BEFORE you buy the device, instead of buying the device first and then hoping that there is something available for it. When you buy a device without doing this research, you take your chances because it is a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the reply, It's reasonable and good advice.
I'm stuck with Verizon as no other carrier can service my rural US location, The Stylo 5 was free due to a billing error and a sale (no fees, or anything) so I figured why not. I'm familiar with the universal root applications you mentioned and am prepared to try them but I was hoping someone had found success and I simply missed the post somewhere in my searches. I'll put in some effort and report back here if I have any luck.

I'm almost certain that the bootloader is locked on that device. You need to verify whether it is locked or unlocked. If it is locked, that rules out using TWRP or Magisk to root the device and leaves you with the same options as I described in my post that you quoted when you made your reply, which is, to use the universal apps and PC programs designed to root android devices. But, to be honest, I doubt any if them will work, but it is worth trying.
Supposedly, this method will unlock your bootloader:
https://www.androidnature.com/how-to-unlock-lg-stylo-5-bootloader-commands-steps/
If that actually works, then you should be able to use Magisk to root your device. The Magisk method will require you to modify the boot.img in your device yourself, but it's easy, it's just an app and a few clicks to generate the modified boot.img. Try the unlock method that I linked, if it works, then I'll help you with the next stage in the process. If it doesn't work, you will have to resort to using the universal apps and programs that I mentioned.
Just do some searches for:
"Apps to root android"
And
"PC programs to root android"
Try all of them that you can find.

Just some Lg Stylo 5 love baby
Since he/she never responded I am going to try the steps mentioned, just purchased me Lg Stylo 5 from eBay for a cool $65, got a great deal, only problem is the fingerprint scanner is damaged but it's a cheap fix. Its the METRO PCS version so I'm pretty sure it's unlockable. I really appreciate your help and would love to see more development and support for the Lg Stylo 5 from the best forum ever!!!
Update... Went into developer options and unlocked the Bootloader then powered off, then powered on holding down and the power button, at the splash screen I briefly released the power button then immediately pressed it again while still holding the volume down button, this gave me the promising white screen that reads do you want to erase all data yes or no, I clicked no. But this is progress, but I can't get into Bootloader mode or downloading mode, I would love if someone can figure this out, I will keep trying!

Hey, just a status update. If you want root and/or custom ROMs on a Stylo 4, do not update beyond 20c and disable automatic updates. If your thinking your going to root a Metro PCS Stylo 5, think again. I've tried almost every outlet...I've watched countless YouTube videos .... No luck. Does ANYONE have one they've actually rooted? I simply cannot and don't believe it's possible.
Ive tried multiple times to unlock fastboot/bootloader but anytime i type adb reboot bootloader it says no device found, when i type fastboot oem device-id it gets stuck on waiting for any device.

Hi folks - after reading through a number of threads on here I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this question now that LG's unlock site is retired:
Is it possible to root and/or install a custom recovery and/or install a custom ROM if you have an LG G5 on a stock ROM right now? I just purchased an unlocked RS988 and would like to do all of the above, but I'm starting to think the scene is dead and/or dying. Can someone confirm / deny the state of modding an LG G5?
I can't even install basic apps like Microsoft Authenticator right now as I'm on RS98810h and my attempts to upgrade by following these instructions ended in an error via LG UP that forced me to use LG Bridge to recover the phone back to a safe condition.
I'd love to mess with it some more but haven't found any current instructions that work. Love this site BTW, I've used it to install custom OSes on many a phone & tablet.
Only H830 can be rooted for any other variants your SOL. It's highly unlikely that root will be achieved for H850 and RS988
Thanks for the info, that's kind of what I concluded from searching around here.
Just wondering, has anyone been able to install Oreo on the RS988 just via normal methods (LG Flash / LG Up)? I know the Verizon version got it (I have one with Oreo) but would love to get it on the RS988 as well. It seems possible, but I just don't have the know-how to cobble together a flashable ROM. I'm sure at this point nobody really cares and has moved on, but if anyone out there knows of a way to do it I'd try anything at this point.
Hi, Its Jan 2023 and I am querying what the chances are of rooting a H850 so I can use it as an appendage to a head unit in an old car with an aux in. I've managed to adb it into bootloader mode and it recognises a the device, but the moment I try 'fastboot oem unlock' I just get 'unknown command' response
My prime need is just to enable auto switch on ( achieved ) and auto switch off when power supply stops. My understanding is that any solution to enable auto shut off requires root..
