I can root it no problem but can't seem to unlock the bootloader. It seems like kitkat could be unlocked.
Can anyone confirm android v5.0.1 be unlocked?

I don't have this device but, I believe that one or more of the following threads should be helpful for what you are looking to do that's specific to your device. Don't be afraid to ask for some member guidance within one of them as well.

I believe I have the correct drivers. At least Windows is recognizing my device as a LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (COM41) when it's booted to download mode. Screen shows Firmware Upgrade. My problem is with the LG FlashTool 2014.
The LGFlashtool2014 fails with "connection to server failed". I waited for over an hour at times but it goes to 4%, then backs off. I've tried it many times(on 2 different computers) and yes I have the device in download mode and allowed USB debugging(Although I don't think USB debugging is needed in download mode). I have the correct file for my device V40010c_00.kdz Or is there another tool that can flash with a .kdz file?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
UPDATE: LG G Pad 7 v400 wifi Android 5.0.1 is aka LGLK430. My board is Sprint but no place to put in a sim card so I assumed it was just wifi. From what I can tell this tablet shipped with Android 5.0(The wifi only version shipped with Android 4.4) so it can not likely be downgraded to Android 4.4 as no firmware exists. So there is no way to unlock the bootloader.
To anyone with an LG G Pad 7 LGLK430 Sprint variant.... DoNOT use ANY firmware that is not specifically for the Sprint variant! You'll brick your device. If you find one with kitkat, please let me know.

EDIT:
I simply can not get into the bootloader on the H831 lol.
adb / fastboot devices never shows anything. Win 10 64bit. Have installed LG USB drivers. Have enabled usb debug and allow oem unlock.
----------------------------------------------------
I am referring to this link: http://www.androidinfotech.com/2016/06/root-lg-g5-canada-h831-601-marshmallow.html
After a quick google search, this result comes up for rooting the H831. But, I don't see anything about this on xda - my trusted source for all android development. Is it possible that a rooting method for the H831 specifically has been found and xda doesn't know about it ? My current suspicion is about the 'all versions' bootloader unlock.
Let me know what you guys think. I may risk the dangers of attemping to root my Canadian LG G5 (Rogers). But if anyone has any insight to this process if it may be fatal to my phone, speak up or forever hold your peace lol.
:good: :good: :highfive:
currently the model you own can not be rooted unless there will be an exploit developed
but you will need to wait for that
also, please post in proper section
I have the same phone and anxiously await root. I have found if you put it into MIDI mode and enable USB debugging it will respond to ADB commands. However it still will not reboot into the bootloader.
I've noticed though that after sending 'reboot bootloader' command that it briefly shows up as an unidentified device in Windows Device Manager. I hope someone is working on this too!
Yep, waiting as well.
My experience with the G3 was that we got root a little bit after AT&T and then the VZW and Sprint models usually take the longest. Not sure how it's going to be this time around.

Canadian LG G5 H831 Root solution found?
I also just picked up the H831, also on Rogers. Any updates on a working root solution since the last post in July 2016? Thanks!
I am also looking for Rooting my LG G5 H831
Then I'd like to get TWRP Working, and MultiRom app, to Install Plasma Mobile in multiboot
but I am open to suggestions if there is a better way

Out of luck for us canadians lg is dead to me now. To bad the g2 g3 were rockin phones.
Edit: I wanted to link this to the main Optimus L9 Security Error thread but didn't know how, any mod is welcome to do that for me ^_^
Hello XDA!
I recently acquired a LG Optimus L9 MS769 from my sister to use temporarily until I can get a new phone. Before bringing it to me, she tried swapping SIM cards with my mother's to see if that would work (without doing a reset first), which caused it to boot with that infamous Security Error screen. I have tried following just about every thread that I can understand in search of a solution, however I'm sort of stuck due to my limited knowledge in the all-things-android field. Also, I am aware that this sub-forum is for the P76x models, so sorry if I'm asking for help in the wrong spot.
I started with the most obvious suggestion, which was to try using the LG Mobile Support tool with my phone in S/W mode, with hopes of gaining access to perform a hard reset (hopefully that is the correct terminology). Within the driver selection window on the LG Mobile Support tool, there are three separate drivers for the USA MetroPCS model MS769. I tried running to tool with each of them one at a time, with the same result each time. Sometimes my phone would sit in S/W mode and the tool wouldn't detect a connection, so I would try from the beginning again. When I get it right, the support tool detects my phone, but says first that it is fully up to date with version V10F, then once it fully connects the tool tells me "Only wireless upgrades are supported on this phone." I even tried again using a fresh Mobile Support Tool and drivers straight from LG's support website.
Now, there are plenty of guides out there that explain in the most basic ways imaginable for how to flash stock firmware on my device, but all of them that I have read assume I have access to the device in the first place. There were never any alterations done to the ROM so I presume version V10F was the last OTA update MetroPCS sent the Optimus L9. My goal is to have an accessible device that I can hopefully install my own MetroPCS SIM-card in to, converting it into a working phone. So, I don't really mind if you tell me the only way I'm going to unbrick this thing is by loading CWM or CyanogenMod or w/e. I have no preference over a stock ROM or a custom one. As long as it won't re-lock itself when I insert my old SIM I'm in the clear.
Any help, links, comments, or hand-holding through this process will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your time,
Gale

to get to bootloader we need to downgrade our phones to Nougat and I've been searching and cannot find a file to flash using lgup to downgrade.
Hello, dear friends. will you be able to install firmware with Redmi 4A on this device? the processor is the same, the RAM is the same. what could go wrong? who is very well versed in this matter?
Hi, I'm face the same problem here can I get here with the full stock rom?
My device died when I tried to install Pie Update by HiSuite and FirmwareFinder the message says "your device has loaded a different operating system"
I tried to install stock firmware by " dload " but i failed > This release is not compatible with the current version Please install the correct version
How can I restore my phone?
please help
Anything new?
Hello! Have you ever found a way to sort it out? same situation here.. I'd even contacted DC-Unlocker team and they said there's no plan for this model anytime soon!!
Seems to me that the only way to unbrick this phone is to purchase a bootloader and an FRP unlocking codes, that's frustrating because it's ridiculously expensive!!

Hello, can you explain how to make it work? Even dload method doesn’t seem to work for me cause I get the ‘failed to install’ message (instead of saying that I’m on a different version or so)!! dload method never worked for me it’s like I had no sdcard inserted.
I would like to get a detailed tutorial since I’ve never had ‘dload’ method to work, I think I am missing something!
Thank you
Hi folks - after reading through a number of threads on here I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this question now that LG's unlock site is retired:
Is it possible to root and/or install a custom recovery and/or install a custom ROM if you have an LG G5 on a stock ROM right now? I just purchased an unlocked RS988 and would like to do all of the above, but I'm starting to think the scene is dead and/or dying. Can someone confirm / deny the state of modding an LG G5?
I can't even install basic apps like Microsoft Authenticator right now as I'm on RS98810h and my attempts to upgrade by following these instructions ended in an error via LG UP that forced me to use LG Bridge to recover the phone back to a safe condition.
I'd love to mess with it some more but haven't found any current instructions that work. Love this site BTW, I've used it to install custom OSes on many a phone & tablet.
Only H830 can be rooted for any other variants your SOL. It's highly unlikely that root will be achieved for H850 and RS988
Thanks for the info, that's kind of what I concluded from searching around here.
Just wondering, has anyone been able to install Oreo on the RS988 just via normal methods (LG Flash / LG Up)? I know the Verizon version got it (I have one with Oreo) but would love to get it on the RS988 as well. It seems possible, but I just don't have the know-how to cobble together a flashable ROM. I'm sure at this point nobody really cares and has moved on, but if anyone out there knows of a way to do it I'd try anything at this point.
Hi, Its Jan 2023 and I am querying what the chances are of rooting a H850 so I can use it as an appendage to a head unit in an old car with an aux in. I've managed to adb it into bootloader mode and it recognises a the device, but the moment I try 'fastboot oem unlock' I just get 'unknown command' response
My prime need is just to enable auto switch on ( achieved ) and auto switch off when power supply stops. My understanding is that any solution to enable auto shut off requires root..
