Im having the exact same issues described here, so basically i thought it was my headphones that were broken even though they worked in my pc, i thought maybe they were just broke and didnt want to work with my RN3P (they were amazon fire headphones, decent ones) and so i ordered a pair of Piston 3s and they arrived today, plug them in and sound outputs into the headphones which is good i guess, but there is still some weird ass audio issue, i really dont know how to describe it, its like the channels are being messed up, id appreciate any help towards fixing this issue, ive tried rebooting obviously, and im running stock miui 7.3.7.0 right now, no root or anything else, ive also tried reflashing via edl mode, re-setup everything and it stays the same ;-; also tried messing with the eq settings as one person had some success with that in the reddit post but that yielded no results unfortunately :/
I've also problems with the audio jack. I guess it's not exactly the some problem like @DiamondBond but I'm not completely sure.
While playing music or watching videos with low volume, there are strange noises, especially annoying while watching interviews or dialogues. If its completely silent there's no noise/crackling/distortion, but if they start to speak there's some noise, on low volume I can't hear what they're saying, its like if you're screaming into a cheap microphone, then it sounds similar. If I increase the volume, the problems are less annoying, but it's still there. On my old phones there's also noise in the background, but its constant, on the kenzo it's not constant so its a lot more annoying.
I can't describe it better, even in my mother langue (German) it's hard to describe ^^
Edit: I've tested 3 headphones, 2 of them with 3 pins and 1 of them with 2 pins, no difference. On the rear loudspeaker it sounds also not normal, but it's only hearable if you hold your ear directly to the loudspeaker, so its not really a problem, but the problem (in my case) should not be the audio jack itself, its either the audio chip or some values in the audio config are wrong.
I've also plugged my phone with aux into my cars radio, there's a constant noise. I think my ears are way too sensitive D:
Edit 2: I've just tested it on iPad Air 1 and iPhone 6, there's absolutely zero noise, now I know why the iDevices are that expensive -.-^^
Hi, after Miui 8 (6.7.5) update of yesterday (where i find the GREAT problem of No Audio on call), today i installed 7.3.7 ... but now i noted the headphone logo on the top and completely NO AUDIO with headphone !
And after removed i noted a little noise, like an audio problem..
I don't understand if it's a ROM problem or what else... i hope it's not an hardware problem (headphone jack ?)
Any idea ?

What ROM are you using? I am using Mokee but I only detect these background noises when using a "cheap earphone". My Sony earphones have a tiny bit of noise only if I activate Audio FX or Viper. If I use stock audio settings, there is no noise. I wonder if this is something that affects all CM13 ROMs.

I'm on official RR (9th July). In my case it's definitely not the earphone. With 3 different earphones I have exactly the same noise and on iPhone/iPad I have with all of them zero noise :|

I have the exact same issue. It's problem got to do something about the noise / static in other phones( it's present all the time) as opposed to RN3 where it comes only when there's audio to output. I normally used to listen to podcasts at night on my Moto G2 at a really low volume, but now it's annoying & irritating to listen. Maybe it is a software issue and will hopefully be solved. On a side note, my aux cable outut doesn't work, just loud static. I read that the problems been solved on custom ROMs? ( I'm on stock 7.3.7 LHOMHID)

i was searching around today and the issue most of you guys are having are different from what i have, your having this issue:
"The problem seems to be affecting users with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 powered handsets who are plugging in low-impedance (sub 16 ohm) headphones into the smartphone’s 3mm jack. The issue manifests as an irritating buzzing or crackling sound if the volume is turned up past a certain point, but the exact cause has been a little harder to diagnose."
Im having a complete other issue where my headphones just sound garbled and sometimes dont even output via headphones and just re-route to speaker, ive even tried forcing output to headphones (via an app called soundabout) but it's still awfully garbled to the point where music isnt even music anymore, its just a spaghetti.
edit: here's the source for the info above.
edit2: possible fix? (dont really care, trying everything at this point lol)
edit3: it seems that the xiaomi headphones have a mic in them and this mic actually gathers sound and plays it back when your using the headphones, eg:
i can be listening to a song (but it super gargled and awful) and if i blow into the mic directly, i would hear the blowing in my headphones aswell ;-;

My/our problem exists on all volumes, so it's probably not our soc. Maybe I mess around later with the mixer_path file. I think your problem could be hardware related while our problem is software related. Anyway, we need someone with knowledge about this topic ._.

In your logcat Audio FX of RR os is still as default equalizer which is causing MIUI sound setting to crash. Did you come to stock via fastboot method?
i think i know what you are referring to. I don't remember where but i found the solution . you need to be rooted for this and have a root explorer. then navigate to root/system/etc/mixer_paths_wcd9326.xml and modify the following line from "<ctl name="RX HPH Mode" value="CLS_H_LP" /> to <ctl name="RX HPH Mode" value="CLS_H_HIFI" /> ( or vise versa if HIFI to LP), save , make sure correct permissions are given and restart . Try it and tell me if it works cause for me as soon as i did this it worked and no more static noise just perfect clear sound. Oh by the way this issue happened to me only with headphones without mic.
I have same problem
Related
While watching youtube or playing video via SD card from my Nook Tablet (rooted indirect method, 1.4.0) I get a very annoying static/popping noise before the audio plays at the start of a video or when resuming from a pause. This is only present when headphones are attached. Almost like the device mutes the headphones while no sound is present then clicks/pops/buzzes for a split second when audio is detected before playing. This is happening with three different pairs of headphones and multiple browsers/players. The noise is in relation to the volume set on the device... If I turn the device up to max the static is louder then if the volume is set at half. I see this problem while the device is charging and also when it is not.
Is this problem common and people are dealing with it or am I alone? I did a forum search but didn't see any posts relating to my question.
thanks for any comments.
I have the same issue, and it is rather annoying. I am hoping it is a software issue with the rom, where the ramp between dc and audio is not being handled correctly. It would suck if we had broken hardware
Did you happen to try headphones before rooting?
Maybe related to my "clicking" I get when my NT is sleeping with WiFi on... hopefully a software bug and not shoddy design/materials.

I think it's a software issue. We all have noticed it at some poont.
thin wired headphones
I've noticed this before with thin wired headphones, especially when around a computer. Thick wired headphones with more insulation / protection are a bit less likely to have this problem.
... just a thought... might not work in this case.
Nook Color was just like that. cm7 make it perfect.

Yup! It happened for a long time. I realized that it cause by the sleep mode of sound chip but it is a software bug... -_-
Last time I use it for the song picker for the annual dinner event and it keeps pop pop pop before start playing. I solve the problem by minimizing the volume but not stop playing.
Finally someone makes a thread about it! I noticed it very early on when I bought my Nook Tablet in last December. It bugged me a lot. I couldn't find much about this problem; all I could find was a similar problem reported with Nook Color. The description of the problem looked so similar that I assumed Nook Tablet has inherited it... I hadn't registered on XDA forums then and decided to live with my assumption.
It has nothing to do with root. I discovered it after rooting it, reverted back in hopes of curing it, it stayed. It persisted when it auto-updated to 14.1. I was hoping this was one of the bugs B&N fixed with the update, but apparently their only motive for the update was to block users from side-loading apps.
This annoying audio issue manifests in at least two different ways. With some headphones, NT emits bursts of hisses before starting the playback. With others, there's no hiss but there's a pop. The hiss is more bothersome than the pop. I have tried with a few different headphones, and only on one I hear the hiss. On the rest, I hear the pop. I don't know why it behaves differently with different headphones. Maybe it's something to do with impedance.
My take is that NT turns off the audio at the hardware level whenever it doesn't detect any audio playback. It comes back on with a prelude of a pop or hiss. The idle period needed shut off audio is very little (maybe 1 second or so). Maybe it was done to conserve battery. This makes playing any musical instrument app very frustrating. Once you pause before playing another note, you automatically get a prelude of a pop or a hiss.
Speaking of musical instrument apps, another thing that makes NT quite unsuitable for enjoying those is a lag/latency between hitting the touchscreen and hearing a sound.
Is there any other way to fix it as we wait for a stable version of Cyanogen ROM? I'm not sure. I have seen some lines dealing with audio on build.prop. I don't know editing which parameter to what value would help things, so I didn't mess with them. Maybe someone more knowledgeable would like to try? I will try myself if I can learn more about it.
Just wanted to know if anyone else noticed faint buzzing/scratching/hissing noises coming out of their headphone jack...
(and yes I have tested several headphones/earbuds and tested with my MDRv6's all with the same results. Its definitely the phone not the headphones)
When I insert my headphones there is a quick beeping sound that plays for a second or so then goes quiet.
When music is playing, especially soft music (a particular song was Instant Crush; Daft Punk) there is a hiss in the background, specifically when certain tones play.
It was terribly noticeable right at the beginning of a few songs, especially the one I listed above.
I also have button sound effects enabled. So When I press one of the soft UI buttons it makes a tick noise. However for about 5 seconds after the tick there is a long hiss then silence until I press another button.
The volume of the hissing/scratching noises is directly related to the actual volume of the device and the note playing.
Im on stock build 11c w/root, and I havent found a lot of info about this problem.
Just wondering if anyone has noticed this, or if this is a known issue?
If your phone is warranteed, I would bring it in
The G3 boasts an AMPLIFIED 1 watt sound speaker, which means there is a powered sound processor.. Unless the jack needs to be cleaned, I would lean toward thinking there is a defect in your phones jack, or sound assembly. I think its more than likely a defective jack, especially if there are no sounds like you are describing when headphones are not in use
Yeah the phone is brand new. I think I'm going to RMA....

Just got my G3 a week ago and didnt use headphones until I read your post, I tested many different songs with different players, stock player, google player, Iheart radio, pandora, etc, headphone sound is crystal clear on mine, I dont get any beeps either like you described, I did notice you need to make sure the jack is pushed in good and tight, I put it in and thought it was all the way in and sound was crappy, pushed a bit harder and it clicked in good and sound was great, do you have a case that may be preventing the jack from being pushed in all the way, I had a phone in the past that this happened to me with, had to cut away some rubber on the jack to make it fit snug, if none of those are the issue, I would look into a warranty claim. I am using the beats audio earbuds that came with my HTC M7 I had before this phone.

That could be the issue. I know on the 2012 Nexus 7, it's really bad. It's supposedly due to the microUSB port and the headphone jack sharing the same circuit, or some engineering thing like.
Wonder if it's the same or if they didn't shield the headphone jack very well and it's picking up interference from the microUSB port when charging?
I didn't want to leave this up in the air so I figured I would post an update.
I replaced my G3 through Verizon for a brand new unit. My first phone was of an earlier batch (came with the 10b update) the second one was of a later batch and had 11b pre-installed.
Both phones had the same issue. There is a hissing noise/distortion that comes from the headphone jack. Even when not playing music.
I noticed it on other phones too but not anywhere nearly as much. I understand that any audio source is going to have a little background interference but the G3 definitely has a more significant issue than others.
However it seems to be entirely dependant on what headphones you are using.
1st. I tested first with my Sony MDR-v6's which the problem is most noticeable on. Extreme hissing/background noise.
2nd. Then I used a pair of Audio Techina ATH-PRO500's and the problem was almost unnoticeable.
3rd. I also tried my Steel Series Siberia v2's and the problem was again almost completely gone.
4th. I also used my receiver at home. JVC 5.1 channel receiver with RCA speakers and a Kenwood sub, didn't notice the issue at all. However there where some occasional strange popping noises when no music was playing I didn't get on my GS3 or other MP3 player.
5th. Finally I tried the ear buds that came with my Galaxy S3 and the distortion was again totally noticeable with and without music playing.
This is most definitely an issue that totally depends on what headphones you are using not sure if it has to do with sensitivity or impedance (this is what most people think) however it is most definitely an issue. I saw a few threads saying that audio issues were a problem in Android 4.4.2 however LG/Verizon have yet to release a stock base on anything but.
I suppose I could flash AOSP 4.4.4 and see if the problem persists but I don't know if that would even be worth it.
2 phones and 4 headsets later this is starting to seem like either a software or a design issue.
However I have nothing but good to say about every other bit of this phone. Really besides the audio jack top notch all around.
Sent from my Stumped and Bumped Verizon LG G3
I might have found a workaround for this
I have tested 3 LG D855 and all of them have noise/static/high-freq leak from the processor out to the headphones. It might be a faulty design for the headphones amplification stage for headphones (when the headphones logo appears on the status bar). However, when using line level output (the jack appears on the status bar) the problem does not reproduce.
Therefore the workaround I've found is to trick the phone into line level output mode and then plug the headphones. To do this you need to plug in a 3.5mm jack extensor or a 2-to-1 3.5mm Y-adapter with no load, that's it, with nothing connected to it. At that moment, the phone will activate the line level output mode. Only after that you will connect the headphones, and you'll see there are no artifacts on the audio.
That being said, I'm not sure this will work with all kind of headphones as I have only tried with mines that are low-impedance ones, but on those it works perfectly. To be checked if the level of the signal in line mode is enough to drive other headphones.
In any case, it is a shame this happens with a high-end and expensive smartphone. I was hopping this will be fixed in a newer hardware revision but I got two replacements of mine and no luck. I have read somewhere this might be a flaw in Snapdragon 801, as it integrates completely the signal routings but isolates badly highfreq noise from processor stages, etc. etc. but I do not remember where I did read it unfortunately.
I hope this helps!

Ive been having the same issue. I have a pair of Shure SE846 which are about 8ohms. I experience the poor audio, especially the noise in the left channel. I find that placing a call and then listening to music removes the left channel static but the sound is still kinda bad. Ill try your suggestion tonight and post back. Just wanted to let you know your not alone.
I despise my G3 because of this. Im looking to get a new phone unless I can fix this.
Nope, my sound is perfect on my high-end Sony over the ear phones. Crystal clear on pure stock G3 .
I haven't noticed any artifact issues on my phone when using headphones, however when I plug it into my vehicle and also plug in the charger that causes everything to go nuts. The USB interference causes a crazy amount of excess noise. I haven't ever actually tried listening to headphones while charging, so in the car is the only time I've ever noticed it. The same issue occurs when I plug in my Galaxy Tab Pro into the aux jack and charge it at the same time, so this is definitely not unique to the G3. I wish all phones had as good an amplifier as my HTC DNA does, I still use that thing for music because the sound is so good.

I'm having a different audio problem.
With headphones plugged in and listening to music using any player, the right side sound emits distortion/hissing noise at a certain frequencies. When I tested it with plugging a 3.5mm to 3.5mm to an external amp (JDS labs c5) the distortion/hissing noise is completely gone. So it's definitely not a faulty jack
The hissing is evident at the beginning of (first few seconds) Tina Area's Still Running and You set fire to my heart .
I'm testing it with sensitive iem (Westone Um3x).
So does this mean there is a problem with the internal amp of the g3 or more to do with the os bug that can be solved with a custom kernel or update.
Is this a common issue found on all g3s?

Hi! This worked perfectly for me but for me instead of tricking the phone into line level output mode, I detaching one side of my headphones before plugging it into the headphone jack then reattached it afterwards. I'm using pair of sensitive iems (Westone um3x rc)
Everything is quit with no distortion, just how it should be!
One thing, is there an option within android or an app that can permanently enable line level mode ever time headphones are plugged in without having to trick it.
If so, I won't have to sent my phone for repair!
Also are there any disadvantages for using line level with headphones?

Using line out shouldn't make any difference on audio quality. It only disables the remote (buttons and microphone).
Would also really like a way to force the line-out mode. Btw, does this affect all G3s? Cause right now I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle of replacing it.

I know but some how using line out causes the hissing from the right side to go away completely. Strange huh
Are you also having this problem?
I also don't want to return mine if it exists in all g3s and there's a easier work around.
Yea same thing. I have artifacts in the left channel except when I manage to force the phone to recognize the headphones as line-out. I did this with the adapter to test it and it's impractical if not impossible to use the same adapter all the time.
I'm gonna try doing this right this moment to see if it works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/hissing-noise-left-ear-playing-music-t2804065/page17

I don't use earphones with a volume remote or microphone so that's not a problem.
It could be more to do with the increase in output impedance but I might be wrong cos the volume level is identical to headphone out.
I'm also getting a lot of static background noise but it disappears after making and hanging up a call as mentioned in a thread.
But yeah a permanent fix by forcing it into line out or doing some changes in kernel would be much more convenient

Great news! I just tried the fix from that thread and it worked. Here's the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59601465&postcount=150
I'm using stock rom which had 3 mixer xml files and I edited 2 of them, mixer_paths.xml and mixer_paths_qcwcn.xml. Also, instead of changing the value to 0, I deleted the entire line as it was suggested later in the thread.
The artifacts/noise in the left channel are gone!

But mine is stock on stock Lollipop via official update and with the hiss coming from the right side.
Please excuses my ignorance but I know nothing about accessing and editing a ROM.
How do I get into the rom and into the file called system/etc"?
Hey Guys.
I'm creating this thread since I did not find any other old thread about this issue.
When a song or any audio output is done through the Redmi Note 3's Speaker or when it is connected to a Amplifier like a car stereo then there's an Awkward ssssss or Hissing sound.
I've used Two Different models of the Redmi Note 3 thanks to Amazon and both of them have this.
It has a very very low possibility of hardware error.
When a song is played at 1/7 of the total volume, put your ear near the device speaker and listen carefully. You might notice a weird hissing sound. It goes away when there is deep and strong bass but is there lots of times.
Using an amplifier it is most noticeable at lower volumes.
I hope you people understand.
Respond ASAP!

I too faced that situation... But in my case..
The 3.5 mm jack is broken..
I mean.. There's no problem with the phone.. But in sound system I use...
Have you checked this problem with other speakers ...??

Hey,
I actually have noticed this when I played music in my Car and also from the phone's Speaker itself!
Both when the volume is Very Low....
I know it's not a problem with my piece because I've checked with many RN3 Users and same issue is being detected there too.
My RN3 is new and in superb Condition and so are the other Appliances like the Car Stereo I used.
Even then this Hiss sound is there.
I wonder of its a problem with the Chipset altogether since there isn't a sound/music chip in it...
I hope it's a software issue and gets resolved fast...
When recording sound from the speaker output yes the sound is levied towards the high end, this is probably what causes the hissing sound in your amplifier since it can't properly amplify that freq or something along those lines, I'm not too sure since I'm no sound engineer but that's just my 50 cent.
Edit
Dumb me, your amplifier is probably a 3.5mm headphone Jack right? If so then there shouldn't be this issue and my above statement wouldn't apply ;-;
I noticed this when using Viper Audio. There was a small but noticeable hissing in the left earphone. It went away when I turned off playback gain control.
Maybe check if any equalisers or headphone effects are on and turn them off?

I had checked everything possible. I even did now.
No part of the settings, equalizer, audio effects could fix it....
And where's the option you're talking about for playback gain control? I'm still unrooted with a locked bootloader on MIUI V7.2.3.0LHOMIDA
The sound is there in both speakers in my case. I'm not using anything other than the stock music application and some great songs on an amplifier I.e. Cars stereo

Even mine didn't support Bluetooth.
If your Stereo supports USB and Aux in, you can also go for the adapter since it only needs those two.
USB for Power and Aux In for the Music.

I had a similar problem. Whenever I connected my headphones to my Redmi Note 3, there would be a weird hissing noise at low volumes especially. At higher volumes, it would reduce. I found a fix to this on Reddit, but you need to be rooted.
https://m.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comme..._3_pro/?utm_source=mweb_redirect&compact=true
Looks like a legacy. We are well into 2017 and the issue still exists. I bought my RN3 a couple of weeks ago and noticed the hissing on the third day of use. I just have been ignoring it. After all, it's a Chinese phone. I bought it and I have to live with it.
Good afternoon! The solution for problems with Redmi Note 3 and AUX is the following (solves the problem of correct detection and noise during playback): it is necessary to solder or otherwise connect resistors with a rating of 10 ohms between the common "0" wire and the left and right channel wires (I did 17 Ohm , did 10 ohms - both options work).
After you make this cable, the sequence of actions is as follows: the cable is first inserted into the smartphone, wait for the icon to appear with the headphones, and then insert into the AUX-input of the radio or audio system.
Ok I searched for Solution on google, it seems no body else is facing this issue. So here is my problem I migrated on to v30 from v20 and I noticed that whenever i play a song with quad dac on there is a very audible static noise in the background, like if the mic on or a better example would it feels like the song is being played on a radio.. where along with song there is a hint of crackle and white noise. My V20 never had this problem.
Is anyone else facing the issue, BTW I am on Philippine oreo KDZ, and will LG cover the warranty or should i wait and flash Indian Oreo to claim warranty??
did you try different audio sources, headphones, also try some speakers

Look: you ever used the "high performance" mode of the WCD9xxx in-built DAC of any previous Android phone ?
This raises up the output but also comes with the cost of higher "white noise" / static, etc. - this in turn is able to drive headphones with a high impedance Ω
The same applies to the dedicated "quad dac" - it has high output by default and thus is to be experienced best with "high quality" (well, most high quality headphones have higher impedance than the very cheap headphones).
There's a noticable difference for me when switching between e.g. the EP630, Xiaomi Pistons and the provided B & O Headphones that came along with the V30.
So there is NO issue and there is not really a solution but to use it in the way that it was meant to be used

If a DAC has distortion and audible static interference then its not doing its job. In simple layman terms, Switching on DAC should improve sound stage and frequency response and it is noticeable on any even basic headphones. Like I mentioned in my post I have Lg V20 too, and the DAC on that phone doesn't have any of the issue which i mentioned about my V30, to which you say is not an issue. Also Headphone (Mi Piston) is not an issue.. coz the same headphones works perfectly on V20..

well, it could be due to how the driver & kernel is compiled (so it would be an out-of-the-box issue) - I've experienced this kind of increase in static noise on the Z5 once going from fstack-protector-regular to fstack-protector-strong (more functions protected or "tainted" in that case)
https://outflux.net/blog/archives/2014/01/27/fstack-protector-strong/
https://lwn.net/Articles/584225/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_overflow_protection
Since the stock kernel is built that way by default the audio output quality could be somewhat worse compared to V20 (if there the kernel was compiled with fstack-protector-regular).
I can clearly hear how there's some distortion and audible static noise when the screen is off, quad dac enabled and changing volume (up or down) - the amp first is gone, the output is much more silent and there sound is less clear - more static can be heard
I've attributed this to the quality of the audio tracks I'm listening to - since with fully digitally created tracks this didn't seem to occur that much.
Also there's one particular issue I had forgotten:
Once connecting the Xiaomi Hybrid Pro and having Quad DAC disabled (so the stock WCD94xx used) either on left or right channel (every several seconds) there is solely (no other output) very loud static noise while playing music [similar to the static on old-ass TVs where only static is being shown and similar sound played],
when enabling quad dac/ES9028PRO it's gone. No matter what audio track is being played this was happening - I wasn't sure whether this was a software or hardware issue and since this was only happening with one particular type of headphones/IEMs I keep the phone so far.
Since you mention that the static noise appears along music output I doubt it's a similar issue you're observing.

Yes I did.. And by v20 i mean i tried all Flac, same mp3 on both the devices, wired speakers, headphones, so it doesnt seem the problem is with any of the external devices, , tried different music player, same problem it has to be issue with V30's dac or the headphone jack its just when i start playing a song with Hifi option on, the static and light crackles starts and when the song finishes playing or I pause the song the noise stops after like 15 seconds or if i turn off the dac the noise stops immediately. But toggling hifi option on and off without any music playing the issue doesnt exist, its just when a song starts and DAC kicks the issue appears, so i doubt its even headphone jack

I wish i could have tested on indian nougat when i had it, to see if it is oreo related issue, now i have to wait for Indian Oreo to see if that rom has the solution. I think Ill probably send it to LG to fix it while its under warranty
Stock Nougat, just going to start the bootloader unlock process, but sonically it's been flawless, orgasmic actually, with Sennheiser 6xx's, Etymotic HF2's and ER4's as well as BT to a UE Boom. Only the occasional crackle because my HF2's cabling is getting old, so sadly I'd think you have a bad unit.

The HD598 is 50 ohms (more resistance) while the E40 is merely 12 ohms, with a dynamic driver, I am guessing fairly sensitive. I wouldn't use HIM with earphones like that in the first place. That said, V30 is known for having a very low noise floor, so I wouldn't expect hiss, even with HIM and sensitive earphones.
Which music player do you use and what is your music source? Unfortunately V30 will upsample 44.1Khz sources (i.e. all CDs and most streaming sources) to 48KHz before sending it to the DAC. This should not be audible in most cases, but a few people are able to hear it when using very sensitive IEMs (typically balanced armature drivers). It is described in the opening post of the thread linked below:
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/music-apps-tips-and-tricks-for-the-lg-v30.868978/
The way around it is to use a music player that bypasses the standard Android audio path, such as UAPP or Neutron, both of which use their own audio driver that sends music directly to the ESS DAC.
Another possible explanation is if some EQ or other processing in your music player is messing with the data before it reaches the DAC. If you try playing with UAPP using Bit-perfect mode, that's a great way to determine if it is a hardware problem (which is possible) or something in the digital audio path. This sounds similar to what I experienced with my V30S using Beyerdynamic iDX200 headphones with the extension cable design*.
At first I thought I had received a defective V30S. Then I found the problem was limited to those particular headphones with their included extension cable. With the extension cable removed, and with any other headphones, the V30S audio quality problem disappeared. And the iDX200 sound fine on my other phone, as long as the extension cable connection is clean (it is prone to signal degradation by contamination).
My guess is that the V30 system that measures load impedance on the 3.5mm jack has some kind of anomaly related to imdedance/VSWR imposed by the connection of the iDX200 extension cable, even if that connection is clean.
Try different headphones.
(* The iDX200 cable is too short by itself, it has to be used with a short extension, either the included one or another.)

I have found a solution!!
Go to hifi settings in balance section, reduce the volume from left and right to as low as possible, I've kept it zero and just raise the volume to your liking..
In my case the hiss has reduced drastically to the point I can ignore it ! Hope this works for you!

THANKS A TON!! uapp works like a charm , zero noise and never before heard sound quality !!! I'm Loveñ it !! I couldn't configure neutron though

Great! I'm glad you like it.
And interesting that it solved the noise problem too. That most likely means it was the artifacts caused by upsampling 44.1KHz to 48KHz (performed by Android's standard audio path) that you were able to hear.
UAPP is my favorite too, both for its features, its ability to play redbook (44.1KHz/16bit) without upsampling, and for its user interface. Neutron can do that too, but I could never understand its user interface.
In UAPP, under HiRes Driver flags, make sure to select the MQA flag if you play MQA files or streams. This will ensure that the ESS Sabre DAC is fully utilitized for MQA playback.
Correction- high impedance mode when switched on, even this app makes the noise , I had tried without the high impedance mode..?
but still ,otherwise quality seems better than the stock ! ?

Something is wrong, that just doesn't make sense. If anything, there should be less noise (if the theory of HIM activating more DAC units is true). And in any case is the V30 known for having very little noise, in any of its modes.
How do you trigger HIM? If you plug your headphones/earphones in directly (no adapters of extension cables) is volume loud enough?
If you play music through an impedance adapter, then I suggest you don't. Unplug the adapter once you've achieved HIM, then plug your headphones/earphones into the extension cable (or TRS adapter).
And if you don't need HIM to drive your headphones/earphones loud enough, I suggest you don't need it for maximum sound quality. The V30 was designed to adapt its output mode to the connected headphones/earphones. While it fails to do that correctly with planar magnetic ones, it does it correctly on most others.
Still, unless you are playing through an impedance adapter (which will change the frequency response of your headphones/earphones) or through a poor quality extension cable or TRS adapter, I cannot see a good reason why HIM should have more noise.
Ath e40- when i connect without adapter, loud enough, okayish sound.. Just like any other device..
There was this one time the high impedance mode got activated by mistake, mustve been a glitch! but my god the sound !! - more punch, more soundstage , even minute details audible , more dynamic!! way more louder! Then i searched around and found a way to trigger it everytime by using ath cable extention and sennhieser hd 598 , then unplug senn without unplugging the cable And then connecting e40.
This time i could hear the hiss.. Whenever i plug the earphones only, theres no hiss, and quality is okay.. even though the hifi option is on. i guess it just uses the snapdragon dac or whatever.
to summarize-
if i connect the cable first and then e 40 - sound is louder and okay.
only e 40- sound is okay.
senn and then e40 (to enter high impedance mode, probably uses the quad dac for real this time)- sound is amazing!!!! but with hiss...
I've only used the stock music player uptil now.
now i use uapp- it still gives me the hiss when high impedance is on. otherwise the sound is a bit better than stock music player.
Hey, I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue but when the dac isn't on, it's static during the music and when I'm in a call, there is static in calls on the left side. Does any one have a fix for this? I've had these headphones in my V20 and this is my first day with my V30+

Hi,
haha - and here I am and thought this phone was having hardware issues or something (does it ?) - perhaps it's just the headphones and they have an inherent flaw ?.
At least I'm getting the same weird behavior that at some points it plays fine but at others there's LOTs of (electric sounding) static on the left side.
It's actually never fully continuous for longer periods - it's more of a stuttery (multi-second) behavior for several seconds that this noise appears.
Also at first it was only via quad dac enabled - on AOSP Pie (internal LineageOS 16.0 build) it's existing no matter whether I play via Android Audio or Hi-Res Audio (USB Audio Player Pro).
And this exists on very low volume levels - there seems to be a connection that when the volume levels are raised (above 25/30% or so - I'm usually listening rather low but with this phone and hi-res - why not go higher ?)
it's way more salient and there also may be distortion involved:
An especially remarkable track in this regard is Thomas Bergersen's [from Two Steps From Hell] "Lost in Las Vegas" (around 08:30 or so towards the end, 10:14 long) towards the end - a rather electric part of the track and
when you raise the volume the output becomes rather distorted which might be connected to that "issue" and the left channel is also hissing/giving off static way more.
Perhaps audiophile folks and audio hardware experts have a better idea what this is hinting at ?
So:
not sure if it's an issue itself with the Xiaomi Hybrid Pro HD that they can't take that extra AMP (they are supposed to be low impedance and thus not require high output)
but somehow this behavior only occurs on the LG V30 - so perhaps there some kind of hardware issue ?
It seemed to have gotten better however from my impression with all those updates to the subsystems in the kernel - so it's perhaps just bad hardware design and the headphones are rather sensible
with their balanced armatures ?
Anyone else with balanced armature (BA) headphones observing a similar effect ?
I haven't had any trouble with my (dynamic driver) headphones. I wonder, have you messed around with forcing high impedance mode?

You mean high impedance adapters and such ?
Nope, only directly connecting the headphones.
And whereas before it only happened with the quad dac activated (which might provide more juice),
it now also seems to appear with the internal DAC used only (toggled via USB Audio Player Pro).
There might be a difference on how the internal and quad DAC interact or are active on recent Pie AOSP ROMs however ...
It still doesn't explain that weird behavior from the headphones themselves
Thx
I have tried it stock with no mods and it has static. Slide down the drop down and turn on the Dac and it goes away but only for music and system sounds. With calls it definitely makes noise all the time. I tried with a AOSP rom and it makes noise system wide because of the Dac. I did try my Phillips headphones and those work fine without the Dac on but I think it's a specific issue with these ear buds because I also have a 2nd pair and they also make the same noise.

yeah, the Xiaomi Hybrid Pro HD are the only headphones so far that show this kind of "behavior" with the LG V30,
not sure what is up with that.

very well could be, I wonder though where the reason for that might lie and if a fix of some sorts is possible - quite like those headphones and would like to use them on the go
