Is there a registry tweak or option anywhere in the phone to automatically turn off the screen while on a call. One of my friends complaining that her earrings and face always launch applications and she was on a 3 way call with someone and she didnt even know because of this lol
I would like to know also as sometimes I feel the screen heats up the phone also by being lit.
wtf... you must have a bizzaro phone...
cause my **** shuts off in 2 seconds once i'm in a call... as a matter of fact there is a sensor that auto switches off the screen when ur in a call and you hold the phone up to your ear... i believe based on the g-sensor and light sensor.
and its annoying as hell... your phone must be blessed to stay on...
just press the power button tho man.
Check out the program S2U2, that's what I'm using and it works nicely. The phone is supposed to auto turn black when it gets near your face, but I noticed that it's too damn slow (VZW version) and it usually hits something before it turns black....
Mines never once done this action.
Mine intermittently works too. Of course it always turns the screen off when I call voicemail so I have to turn it back on to punch in my passcode.
Also, when I tell it to bring up the keypad after dialing voicemail, it brings it up and then goes back to the other options screen and I have to tell it to bring up the keypad again. Honestly, how hard can it be to program this stuff to work right? There are a lot of things I like about this phone but this kind of performance makes this phone more of a toy than a usable business device. I also can't believe how slow this device is ie. start menu. /end rant.
As ghostboy said try s2u2. Under the options there is a blank screen on call (or something like that) That turns the screen off for you.

Roger that. How do I get it to stay ON when in a call??
try this out!!
This one works for me.
Hi everyone !
I'm new here (and not a native english speaker, so apologies in advance for any grammar mistakes)
Before making this thread, I looked for info here, but I'm not sure for what to search.
I'll try to explain my problem here.
I bought a Galaxy SIII from my provider 3 weeks ago and everything looked fine, till last week.
Some times to time, with no apparent reason or cause, while my phone is on sleep mode, on my desk, or in my pocket, playing music, I have the following problem: when I push the on/off button to wake up my phone, my screen is turning on, taking me to the lock screen.
But, my screen brightness is very low, like set to the minimum.
And when I draw my unlocking pattern, screen goes black.
Bottom buttons are lit and my phone seems to be OK, I can feel haptic feedbacks.
But the screen is black.
If I push the on/off button again, screen stays black and bottom buttons are not lit anymore, as a usual Sleep Mode.
If I push on/off again (depending on how much I wait between 2 on/off):
- My phone awakes from Sleep and takes me again to the unlock screen, brightness still very low. And after the unlocking pattern traced, black screen again
- If I didn't wait enought after putting it into sleep mode, in this case, I don't have to redraw the unlocking pattern. I'm back to my home screen...
for 1/4 of a second, stilll with brightness at the minimum. And screen goes black.
And after a serie on onoffonoff, boom, my screen is back to full and normal brightness and everything is OK.
At the beginning, my phone did that once in a while. I thought at the time ti was after pushing the on/off button while using a CPU/RAM hungry app, my phone struggling to recover....
But now, it's totally random.
Depending on .... I don't know what, I have to do the onoffonoff thing 2, 5, 10, 50 times in a row so my phone can recover from is half comatose.
Yesterday, I could not use my phone for half an hour ...
and if someone calls me, I hear the ringtone, but screen stays black.
I can answer the call (but not knowing who's calling) by sliding on the part of the screen where the slider normally is.
Funny thing is about removing the battery. It doesn't solve my problem.
When I do so, my phone boots, I see the "Samsung Galaxy SIII" boot screen, on low brightness (whih is not normal ...)
After that, I normally have another boot screen with my provider's logo and tone. But screen goes black again (but I still here the tone)
Then I realized it started to happen when my phone proposed me a Samsung update.
I tried to reset my phone to factory settings but it didn't work, the update was still here.
For a while I thought my problem was solved, because my phone behaved normally for 3 or 4 hours, without problem.
But it came back.
I found on the internet several "almost-same-problems" without proposed solutions.
Like checking if the proximity sensor was blocked by a protective transparent plastic sheet, or a case.
I tried to to remove mine.
Didn't work.
Some people said it was linked to their phone trying to acquire a wifi network.
My wifi on or off, withiin or without the range of a wifi router didn't work ...
I tried to note things down about what I did, when, how, app launched before the problem appears.
I checked battery info (temp, voltage, etc).
No pattern emerged.
So.
Hs anyone of you enountered the same problem ?
Do you have ideas, solutions I can use ?
Or maybe a voodoo prayer ?
I could sent it back to my provider which will bounce it back to Samsung. But it will take ages (3 to 4 weeks ...) :'(
Thanks in advance !
do a factory reset, go completely stock
if that doesn't help, send it in

That's what I did.
I tried by going into the Parameters menu, and reseting.
I tried by booting my phone with Vol+ / Home / Power buttons to access a console mode and do a wipe data/reset.
The problem is that my phone got an update like one week ago from a 4.?.? to 4.1.2.
And even with a reset, my phone reboot with the 4.1.2 version, which seems to cause this problem.
Or maybe not, but I can't be sure.
As I said, after a factory reset I did yesterday, everything went well for 3 or 4 hours and the problem reappeared.
send it to the service
Every time I make a call, the screen dims and then blacks out in a matter of seconds. It's in an Otterbox Defender. I have tried every setting I could find and have it set to turn off display after 10 minutes but something is overriding that for this phone app.
I'm new to LG and the V30 but on my last device it detected proximity to the screen during calls so your cheek doesn't mistakenly hang up or something. I believe it uses the front side camera to detect your head there. Could that be what os going on?

Mine does the same and I dont think it's to do with proximity sensor. When i make a call on speakerphone or Bluetooth with nothing near the phone, it still dims and blacks out
I agree it's likely not the proximity sensor in this case as I always have it on a desk and use it via bluetooth but thank you for that suggestion. But, in many cases, I need to enter in several series of #'s for conference lines and changing options but the screen blanks out way too fast. When I double tap it to open the screen, I sometimes accidentally hit a # and have to start over again...

Do you mean it turns pure black, or just dims? Mine dims if I'm on a call utilizing the speaker. Just touch the screen to brighten it up, then type your conference numbers.

I have the exact same problem with my V30. I use Bluetooth, either on a headset or in my car. After a few seconds, the screen dims, and then a few seconds later, it blacks out completely. When it dims, I can tap on it to wake it up, but the screen still responds to the tap, so if I happen to tap where the hangup button is (easy to do in a moving car), I end up hanging up on myself. Or, if I'm navigating through an automated attendant, when I tap the screen to wake it up, it invariably hits a button for a choice I didn't want, and I have to back out or start over. Very frustrating! If the screen goes completely black, then I just hit the power button to turn it back on, but once again, it'll dim out in a few seconds. I would LOVE to have a fix for this! I like this phone better than the past Samsung phones I've had, but the Samsungs don't do this.
I want to add my frustration to this issue as well. I also have a V30 and this happens all the time. My mom has a G6 and says the same as well. It is simply unacceptable. If this is an LG-specific issue and it isn't fixed (or at least given an option to change the screen time-out) then this is a deal-breaker for another LG in the future. (same goes for the glass back as well, but that's another issue...)
Eagerly awaiting a fix or workaround....

I have the same problem on my V30+ since the oreo update. Before it was OK.
During call screen blacks out and then when I take my ear off screen it does not light up again.
I need to press the power button to have the screen displayed again during call. I wonder it this was not done on purpose in order to preserve battery
Nowever It's frustrating because I was not used to this.
Any ideas?
Thanks Anndy
Same frustration for me. I make regular use of speakerphone and it is very irritating.

No fixes yet that I'm aware of. The "solution" I use is to tap or double-tap on the very top of the screen where there are no buttons that will affect the call. But this is by no means an acceptable solution.

I, too, want to add my frustration with this problem. In my case, the screen goes black immediately after touching the phone icon to connect a call. I talked to the T-Mobile people who said they never heard of this before. This has been an issue since 2012, so that was useless. This started happening with the last update. Hopefully if more people complain, a fix will happen.
Same here...

I hope we can get a fix or an option to this soon. It really messes up calls when options are needed during the call.
I've had the exact same problem with my G6 ever since I purchased it (February 2018). It's really annoying and a problem when you are calling an automated voice system and it dims before you can make your selection and double tapping to wake can cause you to hit a wrong number selection (which happened the other day when I was refilling a prescription). Please fix this!
Happens on the V20 also with the latest update from Verizon. The only way around it is to tap in an area you think won't affect the call every few seconds. The number bar on the top seems to work. defintely need a fix for this. Really annoying

Me too! The solution? NONE, NONE, and NONE.
I called T-Mobile today about this very problem after my frustration hit the roof. I complained it's impossible to hold business conference calls on my phone because the dialpad screen dims in exactly 5 seconds. I need it fully lit so I can mute/unmute at-will for clear-sounding and respectful meetings. Yet, as every smartphone user knows, computer screens are no match against sunlight. I inevitably fumble my way around the dialpad on a bright day.
I did every configuration possible to mitigate the problem: Screen Timeout (none), Auto Brightness (off), Brightness (100%), Battery Saver (off). Nothing stopped the dialpad from dimming like usual. However, to my own surprise, all other apps respected my settings during a call. So is the LG phone/dialpad app itself ignoring my system settings? Yes. Yes it is. My theory was soon confirmed....
T-Mobile offered to do a 3-way call with an LG representative. The conclusion? I was told flat out it's a "feature of all LG phones", it's the "default", and there is "no way to change it". SERIOUSLY, LG?!?!? Shame on you, LG!!!! I didn't say that to the LG rep, but, I did tell her I will be "forced stay away from future LG phones" if there really was no solution for this and every other phone LG makes. She offered her scripted apology to me several times but, alas, there was nothing she could do.
PS: This is so, so, so disappointing. They could have kept their default but provided a system option to enable the app's FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON. They could have taken my customer compliant seriously. So, for anyone reading this, if you want to do any active use of the dialpad during a call, stay away from LG phones.

Root, use Google dialer? Does it dim also? I have it installed, I'll check tomorrow morning.
Google dialer "Phone" app doesn't help...nope!
I gave a workaround in an identical thread somewhere else in this forum. Use Waze navigation app during phone calls. The screen won't dim. Drag the phone call thingy over to the Waze screen.
Found it:

If I need to mute, unmute I just click that to go back to call dialer interface for a few seconds. Then I go back to Waze screen to keep display on.
Yes, it's a wonky workaround, but it works. When I use this while driving, I make sure my phone is plugged in for charging -- because the display will stay on for the entire duration of the phone call.

My LG G8X does the same thing, goes dim after a few seconds, then blacks out completely. In the day & age of "press 1 for this, press 2 for that" it really should allow for more time before the phone becomes disfunctionable...
New auto update on LG phone times out too fast
My LG phone auto updated to a 3 sec. screen blackout and can't be changed in any settings menu. The solution is to install the "Keep Screen On Free" app which completely solved the problem and lets you change the time out settings too.
Hi everyone!
I just received an used Galaxy S5 from someone and it was working properly, it was a gift for sure.
I had some fun exploring it as I never had any phone like that one, I downloaded something was spending time on that app and the phone was turned off because the battery was low.
When I charged it everything was ok but the opening screen like Samsung Galaxy S5 , powered by android and it never went to the main phone screen it was loading and like it couldn't load till the end.
So I was able to enter the recovery menu before booting and I believe I made some mess there including chosing the wipe system option and so on, anyway the phone finally restarted , went to normal screen but after some attemps it resulted in having Galaxy image on my screen when rebooting with some sort of extra image flowing in the background / some colour stuff etc. I just took it as it's reinstalling the soft from new , like a fabric version you know so I left the phone on table and it took like an hour and it wasn't finished , maybe I could have waited some long but I decided to reset the phone at this point and the screen went dark and never returned. I can observe some blue light in the top left corner of the phone, my friend took this phone from me yesterday and even tried to use some Odin software to install software however he made it all in let's call it Blind mode. Phone seems now to have some sort of voice in foreign language, I dont know what is it , but like a navigation in car.
Screen remained dark from that time and never came back.
Do you guys see any chances saving my phone ?
Appreciate any help and tips, ps: be aware I am not a phone pro and I know to much about reinstalling soft etc. but I have intentions to do it with instructions if necessary and if it could help
Thanks!
Hi let try to explain me better :
1.extra image flowing in the background / some colour stuff etc.
Do you mean when Samsung Logo appear like this :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8nF9tbVEHQ
you have burning effect which means your LCD is damaged it looks for example something like this :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkYXobLkjDA
When you say you hear Voice like in Car Navigation that means that Voice Assistent (Talkback) is On try to disable by fast pressing 3 times home button if not re-flash latest version of firmware just tell me what is 7 and 8 number from imei which you can find under the battery on sticker.
To send you correct firmware for your Phone Country Code .
Bad things if nothing of that can help you probably your screen is dead , or flat cable doesn't have good contact on mainboard .
Hi Teddy
Thanks for your time spent on trying to help me here ! It's really appreciated!
I would like to say that -> 1 . yes exactly I seen that image when everything worked properly and it seemed that my phone will have system reinstalled , this animation was loading for about 1 hour or so, and at this point I have cancelled it and my screen went dark forever!
2. No it's just dark totally dark nothing can be seen, everything was just perfect before ( phone is from Germany used about 3 years I guess as the battery has such date on it 2015.03... ) I live in Poland so it would be the best if the software was in polish language.
3. Yes I hear the TalkBack for sure and it's no problem to enable/disable it , anyways screen won't come back to become working properly
I believe I might have screwed this phone a little or maybe I am wrong and I didn't do anything bad at all why I am saying this : short story how it was
1. I received it few days back and I was there with my sister I took it from her and was enjoying it like a kid enjoys a new toy
2. I was having fun on it, it happened it was dead because battery went down to 0% but I charged and everything was perfect, after that I started downloading extra stuff -> android apps and I noticed after another charging it stuck on Samsung booting screen ( White letters on black background ) it didn't want to move forward to the system ( normal functioning ) - at this point I knew it won't probably load anymore and I won't be able to use it so we went to console let's call it ->
3. When we were in the console there were few options, to reboot, to remove something / swipe ( I am not perfect in english all right so I did it intuitionally ) , I believe I for sure chose to remove /swap system and then as you mentioned in YouTubue 4 sec video I could see the samsung loading screen with that beautiful logo and animation, so I thought the system is reinstalling and it will take a while, and here I waited about 40 mins - 1 hour and I gave up and restarted the phone here, after that the screen went totally dark and dead but... ->
5. But after rebooting I was still able to see just 1 option, not any other , this one option was to connect device via odin and install system , with android alien green funny picture on it , waiting for connection
6. Short after something happened and I couldn't see even that, screen was dark and remained dark for good
7. Yesterday phone was taken by my friend to his home and he claims he reinstalled system, it was possible to move intuitionally by fingers and voice navigation but screen never came back
8. Now it's impossible to see anything on the screen in fact, I can't even determine if I am accessing pre-boot menu where I could reinstall anything or not, really I can't know it so it's just dark , standard buttons on the bottom of the Galaxy S5 are bit highlighted by white light like an icon on the left and right of the bottom wide button
9. The diode on the top left of the phone happens to light regulary in blue / dark colour
10. That's really all - I don't know here whether I should go to some dude working on phones and if he tells me $50 to fix it in Poland it will be bit over 1/3 value of new phone so is this worth an effort I don't really know, nothing helps really I tried everything my colleague used to fix some iphones himself so he isn't totally newbie to this subject
