Sorry if this is not in the right section im a forum noob......
Ive searched for hrs with no luck trying to allow mock locations so i can use lockito or fake gps my fire is rooted uses rootjunkys super tool got rid of the lockscreen ads and blocked ota updates with also got rid of the fire launcher for google tried to edit the settings.db under android provider settings but there was no mock locations line to change so i tried adding one with no luck.....pleasssee point me in the right direction
Thanks
I'm in the exact same boat, but I'm using 4th gen hardware. Try to use fake gps and it just closes immediately. I was hopeful that adding mock_locations to the database would help, but it was a no go.

Has anyone found the VPN settings hidden anywhere on the Nook? I've been digging around through the various settings panes with the help of AnyCut, but haven't stumbled across anything for network settings that isn't in the stock Nook settings panes. I'll settle for either IPSec or PPTP, either would be better than nothing on open wifi nets.
It would also be nice to be able to be able to use Juniper's VPN for work, but Junos Pulse is coming up as "not compatible with your device" on the Android Market.
Any suggestions?
I asked the same question a week or so ago and got no answer.
I havent been able to find any solution myself either.

I saw that thread and it reminded me of VPN settings that I stumbled on while looking at files/inside settings files (not in menus) when I first got my NT, but then I couldn't find them again so didn't post. There is no native support/applications for setting up VPN on the NT at any rate, so you would have to find a separate program, but it looks like some basic android OS support might be there, just not the software or settings menus :/. Did either of you try 5 VPN or a similar app?
edit: Nope, not supported on the NT. All signs point to no until a custom rom or mod is available. I agree - it IS a big oversight and odd omission (and people complained about it on the NC, so they should have fixed it). It's definitely a software issue though, so eventually a feature that can be added.
Both of the NFL streaming apps work fine on my Nexus 7, however I want to use them on a different device (AFTV). I loaded them on and had issues with both.
com.gotv.nflgamecenter.us.lite
There is a 'provider login' button that is missing from the settings tab.
com.neulion.android.tablet.nfl.wnfln
When opened on my tablet it immediately asks me to login with my provider account, on the AFTV it brings up a different screen not giving me that option.
My questions are:
How do these apps know what device they are being run on? Is it grabbing the info from build.prop (I tried editing it to change the product info, didn't have success)
Is there a way to spoof my device information to that app? Or, would decompiling the app and looking for the check be the best course of action?
Has anyone had success in getting around these types of issues previously? I searched and came up empty handed.
The Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 does not come with multi-user, so I've been trying to set it up so my family can actually share the tablet without kid-adult conflicts. I'm running Android 5.1.1
As suggested in a number of forums, I've rooted the device and modified build.prop to include:
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=8
The two lines of code are in the build.prop file after rebooting the tablet and "pm get-max-users" in adb shell returns 8, so the two lines of code are in there. However, there is no multi-user icon either next to the settings on the lock screen or the swipe-down menu (next to settings icon, where I hoped it would be). So I cannot add or switch users.
I've tried manually adding users through the adb shell using "pm create-user [username]" with no luck...they may exist in the back-end somewhere, but as a tablet user I can't see them.
I've tried rebooting several times, removed screen lock, and eaten a bunch of chocolate but nothing seems to work.
Any help would be much appreciated!
same issue for S8-50 running 5.0.1. actually the profile section can be found in settings if search for 'profile' . from there the user can also be switched but that's about it - no ability to switch between users in lockscreen
I bought two tab3 10" 16GB for the kids for xmas, and they had a "Users" entry in the settings, but no user avatar in the quick settings.
It seemed pretty good, so I bought another of the 32 GB version for myself and my wife and that has neither. However, I was able to set up user accounts for us by searching for users in the settings menu, so it appears to be there. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow any sane way of switching users, since one has to be logged in as a user to do it... It cannot possibly be considered a good idea to do this, it has to be a bug...
I'd be very interested in a solution to this problem too.
any findings an that so far? How to "search for 'profile'" Am on tab 2 a8-50f, with mentioned changed in build.prop but no options in settings
It is actually as simple as kjekje suggests.
Open the settings tab. Instead of scrolling up and down and looking in every submenu for a "users" section like i did, just click the magnifying glass icon and search for "users". Seems like Lenovo have just hidden it from the menu.
Further broken in 6.0.1
I just upgraded the tablet to 6.0.1 yesterday, as it was pushed by the usual channels. Figured it couldn't make it any worse. It did
Now, if I search for users, I can switch to a restricted user, but I cannot switch back, because there's no option for it when I search for it in restricted mode.
So, I would still be very interested in a better solution to this problem? The only good solution is to be able to switch users when the screen is locked. Anybody found anything by further digging?
I don't know why on earth Lenovo is doing this to us. Perhaps they figure we will buy another tablet if there's no multiuser...? But it surely won't be a Lenovo, they ought to understand that.
Hello,
So I bought a Kindle HDX 7 (3rd gen) for my girlfriend. She used it for a month and then a yellow line appeared on the screen. She contacted Amazon and they gave her a replacement and told her to discard/ recycle the defective one. Now I didn't see the point of throwing away the entire device just coz of the screen issue so I asked her to give the defective one to me. I did a factory reset on it. I can load documents and video files and music but they all appear in the Doc tab only. I am able to open Silk and use it like a basic tablet, but when I select tabs of Books or Music, etc, it asks me to register with Amazon. I tried doing that but it constantly rejects any email leading me to believe that the serial was blacklisted. So I've been scouring this site for clues on how to root the device/ install google play etc., but I am a bit confused now looking at the different links.
So far I've seen links with a cyanogen mod in here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kin...ent/rom-cm-12-unofficial-apollo-thor-t3050199
or the 'How to install Google Play here'
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547054
So I'd be really grateful if you folks could point me in the right direction as in what steps do I need to take to either unlock my device/ be able to install apps/ read books and listed to music under the respective tabs. Is there a particular order to follow to install? I tried looking up the Sticky page but I'm still totally lost on what steps to follow in what order.
About my Kindle:
It is a Kindle HDX 7 (3rd gen)
Runs right now on Fire OS 4.5.5.1
I enabled ADB by going into the Developer Options (had to click 5 -6 times on Serial Number in Settings for the Options to appear)
Please let me know if I have missed out on providing you with other details about my Kindle.
Thanks a lot!
This guide works on my case :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kin...t-install-twrp-android-fire-os-8-5-1-t3278286
Careful! That guide is for a version of HD on 8.5.1, not HDX 3rd gen. Will brick your device.

Yep. I realised that the moment I looked through that guide.

FWIW - I am currently assisting another individual with the installation of a custom rom on a device with a similar configuration (sans registration issue). You can follow the conversation here.
I picked up from woot fire hd 6 without realizing that it comes with some funky freetime app that sits on top of the fireos. What does that mean? It means that I can't seem to be able to get into settings to enable developer mode nor to any os configurations. All I can do is add apps from the amazon app store and setup wifi (plus control how much time a specific profile can be used).
Has anyone here been able to bypass freetime and root the tablet?
Thanks
