Hello guys,
I own an unlocked, unbranded SGS3 I9300 on the O2 UK network. Samsung Kies happily advised me of a new update for my phone so I went ahead and started to update. This is my first smartphone where I haven't rooted it or flashed an unofficial ROM, every ROM I have used has been downloaded and updated through Samsung Kies.
This time it failed...
It gave me a generic SGS3-I9300 error code. I turned my phone off and back on again, and it displayed the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." error. Plugged my phone back in, ran Kies, started the emergency recovery... it was taking a long time. It reached 19%. I left it for about 45 minutes and it shot up to 47%. A while later, 53% and I went to bed, leaving it on. Woke up in the morning to find that the emergency recovery had failed at 59%. So this morning I have attempted to start the recovery process again... and it has been stuck at 0% (after confirming that I wish to recover) for over 30 minutes now.
As far as I understand it my next step is to install Kies on another computer and attempt emergency recovery from there. Is that correct? If that fails or is not the next course of action, what is?
2013 has not been a great year for technology for me so far and heck, I've flashed custom ROMs, rooted and HSPL'ed all of my previous phones and cannot recall having a problem but I decide to use the official program and the official updates and this happens? Luck of the draw.
Next course of action is to install a custom recovery, and then flash a custom rom.
Seriously.
If you prefer stock though, I think there are stock roms out there which can be flashed via CWM or Odin. Should be there in the dev forums.
Try a different computer. If it doesn't work, download a stock rom and flash with Odin.

Thanks for the help guys.
Do I need to root my SGS3 before using Odin to flash a stock rom?
So far, Odin is throwing up this error for me.
<ID:0/006> __Xmit Write fail
<ID:0/006> XmitData Fail..
<ID:0/006> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
I've closed down anything and everything I can find relating to Kies as well as downloaded a UK language stock rom.

You don't need to be rooted. Can you enter recovery mode (vol up + home + power, then release power after logo comes up), then do a wipe.
Try flashing with a different pc, also run odin as an administrator.

Tried recovery mode but it still gives me the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" message, same as if I tried to turn it on normally.
Odin is being run as administrator. Will use a different PC.
Thanks for the help
Thanks given all-round.
Installed Odin on my dad's laptop and the USB drivers. Flash failed the first time around but swapped USB ports and it sailed through second time.
Phone seemed dead but it appears as though the battery has been wiped down to 0%. Charging for about 10 minutes, the phone booted, installed, updated, optimised and did stuff and finally got into the Android OS as I remember it pre-flash.
Not holding my breath just yet but it appears as if my phone is back in business on a Stock ROM

Hey guys.
Suddenly yesterday, I checked my s3 (which was turned on and working few minutes before) and it was stuck on the logo screen. I removed the battery and I tried to reboot it, but now it's always stuck on that s3 logo. If I plug it via usb it stucks on a gray battery with the circle thing not spinning. I noticed that in the last week also my phone was getting slower and freezing from time to time.
I can't get into the recovery mode, if I press power + home + volume it keeps showing the samsung logo, without getting me there.
I can get in the download mode. it says:
Odin mode (in red)
Product Name:
Custom binary download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
If i try to fix the problem through odin as soon as I try something it fails giving me the error: <ID:0/003> There is no PIT partition.
Is there any way to fix this problem? Is it SDS?
thanks for your time
SDS
so there is no way to fix it, except that sending it to the Samsung support ?

Im having same problem but it give this error
<ID:0/014> Complete(Write) operation failed.
Is my motherboard gone too?
yes
May I ask what process and what file you are using to try to fix your problem using Odin? You may need to download official firmware for your phone and then flash this using the pda option. Keep in mind that the only other options that should be ticked are auto reboot and f reset time.
this problem is not fixable through odin
please help
Hi, just getting a very similar problem, except that I can access the recovery mode (CMW v6.0.4.4). I've been using temasek ROM so far without issue. What should I try? many thanks.
You can try to wipe data/factory reset and if the phone doesnt boot you can try to flash a oficial rom by Odin.
Hi, thanks. When I do the wipe data/factory reset, it seems to start doing it, I'm getting "wipe data" in CMW, then the samsung logo appears and it stays stuck.
have you tried flashing stock rom?
Try to flash a stock rom. Recovery will be replaced by stock and maybe we will have some extra info. It it a 9300 or a 9305?

From sammobile with Odin.
thanks, I managed to re-flash a stock ROM. Do I need to re-root it, re-install CMW to flash temasek ROM? thanks
You dont need to root in order to install a custom recovery.
Hi,
Am new to XDA- Forums so please pardon me if am not clear in my questions/queries.
Issue:
I am using Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 , few days back it suddenly went into bootloop( every time i switch on the device it starts upto Samsung logo and re-starts the same process again and again).
Details:
OS : 4.3.3 Jelly Bean
Observations:
Recovery mode is not available - it only shows an android icon with an exclamatory mark and a caption 'No Command'.
Resolutions tried:
1) Tried flashing the ROM with Official stock Rom but all practices in vain.
Possible reasons:
Is the device soft bricked. or is it a power button shot which causes it to boot loop.
Kindly assist me. Thanks in Advance

Yes.. it goes in download mode.
Flash a full stock firmware, the latest for your country, using Odin then factory reset.
If that works then all is well, but you might find Odin fails to flash due to nand memory damage/wear.
Hi,
Thanks to all for your valuable time and suggestions.
Currently my device is started and is working. But there are hick-up's which needs some clarifications.
Below steps were performed:
1) Initially I did not use to get recovery option from where i was not able to wipe data, so after researching a bit i found a suggestion to apply re-partition. So i used 'GT-I9300_mx_20120329_100%.pit' file and started the re-partition. All went fine but in Odin during re-partition it was stuck at a statement 'NAND write start' for about more then 30 minutes. So i was worried n unplugged the device in between. Fortunately after restart, it went into recovery mode and i applied wipe data factory reset.
2) Still the device got stuck in some weird screen called 'installier der anderden'. But now no bootloop (an affirmative sign :laugh.
3)Today i installed the official stock rom of samsung galaxy s3 for india and now its working. But the hick- up is
it restarts/ hangs or it shows Unfortunately so n so app has stopped.
Need guidance on below points:
1)Should i re-partition again using the .pit file. (now i will re-partition using 'SG3 16GB White.pit' got a link for this from xda forum).
2) After re-partition, installation of stock rom.
Thanks in advance.
Flash stock firmware and pit at the same time, then factory reset afterward.
If the phone still freezes or restarts after this then nand memory is worn, for which there is no cure.
Unfortunately every google app stops after some time.
Any solution/recommendations..
Should i apply re-partition and again apply an official stock rom ..

First of all you can shutdown the device from TWRP if you want.
Second what Android version is that firmware?
v5.0.2 or v5.1.1?
Third did the firmware file pass the MD5 check?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1
<OSM> G925FXXU2BOFJ_G925FOXA2BOFJ_G925FXXU2BOFJ_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
its android 5.1.1
i cannot enter recovery either stock one or custom one . when i flesh via odin , everything goes fine .. no error no interruptions...
hmm... when it finishes in odin phone automatically must goes in recovery to clear cache and factory reset but mine s6e wont do this... i think this is the problem . i need to have recovery to fix my phone

Did you try from setting a factory reset ? You know that option...
Did you read my previous posts ??
Im stuck in boot loop
go into download mode..flash the right firmware for your phone..if there are problems..than it's not the right firmware..you can clear the phone also with Odin..no need of recovery...you just must activate it in the settings..if you got problems.. just write it exactly or no one can help you..maybe screenshot..
I believe if you put it in Download mode (hold vol. down + home + power) and flash a ROM through Odin it should boot. you may need a PIT file.

there's no need of pit..just the right firmware.. if not exactly the same..delete hidden img from firmware
Hey Alex
Can you please give me an advice? I am currently on official firmware G925FXXU2POGN 5.1.1. Can I flash without any issues the G925FXXU2BOFJ (5.1.1 Uk BTU version) with odin?
I own a Samsung Galaxy A9
I tried to update the firmware from the original lollypop to (maybe) marshmallow
I failed to update using the software, so i updated using smart switch
It went wrong, the update failed.
Now the blue screen with "An error has occured while updating the device software. Use the emergency recvery function in the Smart Switch PC software" appears..
I tried the emergency recovery but it also failed
The only button combination that worked is the power button + volume down --> It restarted, but the same screen appears
I even tried refresing the software with Odin, but it failed.
The phone says "FRP is enabled, not allow download non-FRP aboot binary"
Odin doesn't work
The samsung customer service in singapore (my country) is not able to help. Would really appreciate it if somebody could help me with this.
