Working GTab (old CyanogenMod ROM) and Dock free (pay shipping) - G Tablet Accessories

Instead of going to electronics recycling, if someone wants to cover shipping cost, I have a working Gtab with dock gathering dust. I just did a factory reset on it and looks completely operational.
I'd prefer if it went to a developer, but I don't feel too strongly about it. If you're looking for just parts too, I'd skip this as this is fully operational.

Replacement USB Flap??

Has anyone replaced the little plastic flap that covers the USB port? Mine has finally broken off.
Is there anywhere to get a replacement online, and is there a resource for disassembly for the g1?
TIA
My device (Touch PRO) doesn't have it at all. I've seen that some devices have it and some don't. I think you can compare it to suspension housing of mountain bikes - some have some don't. It is just a question of dirt management style. While covers avoid the dirt getting in they also keep the trespassed dirt in there which also is not good. I don't think there is a good answer
I dont think he is looking for an opinion, I think he just flat out wants one. I could use one too, mine is broken as well.
As far as replacing, you can carefully insert it using a blunt pointed pin, I used some piano wire that was lying around when I did this to my last G1. Just "push" the ball into the housing. Alternately, you can use the plastic pry tools to lift that area, but it is a lot more work.

I'm not super concerned about dirt, and actually prefer not having it, but if i ever want to sell the device it would be nice to have it intact.

Exactly what I'm thinking! Mine broke recently and I actually like my phone without it better. However, as soon as my contract expires, I will want to sell my phone and get N1, so I think having all parts in place would be helpful, but I can't find it anywhere

Looking forward to it.
I'm in the UK and they ship from the US, so it might take a while. I've ordered it on 15th and got a shipping confirmation the next day, so hopefully some time next week I'll have them.
OK, got them... and I think it's a bit of a waste of money. They're too small and also when you need to for example plug-in the headphones, you have to figure out where to put those flaps not to loose them.
Anyway, you decide:

[Q] anyone going to replace the aluminum backplate?

I know this may sound weird, but perhaps the aluminum back plate is the cause of all the wifi and gps issues that people are reporting. does anyone have any plans to run tests without the back plate on? or even replace it completely?
$500 Experiment
Removing the back would be extremely interesting, but I can't afford the $500 experiment.

i second this. if someone was to remove the back plate it would definitely tell us if it was the problem or whether its software. and tbh its the only way were going to find out unless we just sit and wait for an official statement or update.

Second this. If anyone has the capability to produce structurally sound plastic replacement backplate, remove stock aluminum and replace with plastic, I suspect people would be lined up. Should be Asus, and should be free. Mea cupla.

Seriously, I'll talk to a fabricator tomorrow. There are no complex lines in the back so it wouldn't be that hard. Some type of metal ornamentation could be used so that it matches the dock. I'd imagine it could be DIY for some and a 48 hour turn for people that want to send it in and have it done by a tech. As to the warranty, at least in the U.S., Asus can't void the warranty if an issue not related to the back cover comes up because of Magnuson-Moss.

forget having it metal to match the dock, I would love a clear back. when U got hardware like this why not show it off.
I saw a post on another forum where a guy did remove the back & he say wifi was increased substantially plus GPS too.

I Don't see anything wrong with a plastic duplication of the aluminum cover.

rezound for parts

NOTE: This is a non functional phone, I believe the LCD is bad. But I can not verify or guarantee anything
Well my capacitive buttons finally crapped out on me. I bought a brand new digitizer and thought I did an excellent job replacing it but in the process somehow broke the LCD.
I am giving this phone away with the taker paying shipping cost.
Comes with the extended battery as well. I would prefer giving this to a dev so they can use it to continue development for this phone. It is S-OFF.
Let me know who wants it.

Replacement USB flap

Hi all, I got a good deal on a used z3v(came from nexus 6 just wasn't feeling it much) I love this phone but I have a question the person I bought it from had removed the micro SD and USB flap that makes the phone waterproof (hence the reason I got such a good deal ). My question is where do I buy a replacement I see a replacement flap for the normal z3 on ebay, will it fit the z3v? Or with this phone being so similar to the z2 would i need to order one for that one?
Whoa whoa, that's an awfully terrible thing someone would do to this phone. Removing the flaps is like saying "please let me drive my car without tires and see how this will work".
You would have to get Sony to repair your phone for you because the phone is sealed tight, preventing you from physically modifying it of the sorts.

If they are the Z3V Variant then yes those will work. Any other Z2 or Z3 flaps that are not Verizon will not work.
That sucks since even cases for the Verizon variation is hard to find, oh well still a nice phone and I paid next to nothing for it so no worries as even when I had my s5 I never dunked it in water anyways. Thanks for the advice

I would be real careful with it though. Anything intruding into your phone can easily ruin it. It looks to me there's next to no protection for anything to enter without the flap. You should get a case that at least covers the exposed areas somehow.
How is that different from any other phone without protective covers on the USB? Not being a smart ass just asking. I have a otterbox defender but annoyingly it doesn't cover the flap area

If you look through the side where the micro usb port is, you can see the holes to see the internal where the display lights up. I feel as though dust can easily ruin the quality of the display or ruin the camera lens in the phone from taking great quality pictures.
I got one on ebay. Should be here tomorrow. Shipping was slow but it said it's the original part. Sony would not send me one. They offered to fix my phone for a fee if I mailed them the phone (I didn't get that far so I don't know how much). Here's the link.... Maybe they still sell them. Depending on how it goes and how difficult it is, if you want to of course..... make a small guide on how to put on those flaps. That might be helpful for some users in the future. Just throwing out an idea.

That's a great suggestion. I don't mind at all and would like to share. From what I can tell in my research, the port is designed like the Z1 and should not be difficult to install.
I just looked at the USPS tracking and my package arrived in Brooklyn NY tonight at 9:58pm. I'm in CT but doubt I'll get delivery tomorrow so it looks like Monday.
I'll be sure to post details. I'm glad to help others. I've sure have been helped more times than I care to admit by others. Besides, I can use some "Thanks" on my profile ?

Actually, upon further inspection, I'm positive there's a difference. I found a couple European sites offering Z3V parts, expressly labeled as Black or Silver. Before anyone gets too excited though, none of them have the USB covers in stock.

Seems unlikely that the port cover would be different other than in color. Try chatting with Sony. I did that when I was trying to see if they would sell me the part and they were pretty helpful. I chatted right from my phone using Chrome browser.
My port cover didn't arrive today. So annoying. I'm in CT and the package left Brooklyn, NY at 5:46am on Saturday. It should've been delivered today. Damn 3rd class mail. I feel like I've gotten straight from China packages quicker.

Yeah, I just mean the exterior color. Still want it to be the most perfect though. The white definitely has a lighter silver trim, while the black has a darker, slate grayish silver.
Black and White comparison video
My port cover arrived and after about a half hour of failed attempts I figured out how to easily install it without damaging it.
Unfortunately, the damn thing won't fit. It looks perfect but it won't stay closed. I have to press it hard so it closes but it pops right back open on it's own. Nothing like the other ports. I've contacted the seller. Hopefully they will make it right.
I did learn how to install it and will post the video tomorrow. For now, here are two pix showing the ill-fitting cover.
Waited 20 days for this crap ?

Replacement Battery Flap

Hey everyone,
So today I noticed that the black rubber that is under the battery flap of my phone is starting to peel off. It isn't too terrible yet, but I do use the waterproof feature of my phone regularly and I don't want to jeopardize my phone if this peels off. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement cover? I checked eBay and didn't have much luck so I am hoping some of you guys may know of another site that supplies the OEM parts.
Thank you!

Yeah a common thing on these phones (USB cover door). I have not found any yet either, AliExpress had some but were pulled or ran out (just checked again they are back now, so AliExpress has them again --
https://www.google.com/search?q=Z3v+usb+cover+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8). Better link -- http://www.aliexpress.com/item/for-Sony-Xperia-Z3V-D6708-OEM-SIM-Card-Micro-SD-USB-Charging-Port-Dust-Plug-Waterproof/32430237429.html
I had to take my (wife's phone as well) phone back to VZW and get a replacement phone due to this. If your phone is within the one year warranty go to VZW store and show them they will get you another phone.
I did a test and if you apply a tiny amount of Vaseline on the seal it will work better as well as make a more watertight seal, just lightly coat the rubber seal, good idea to do all doors like that, I have a product called "dielectric grease" that works even better, use sparingly, can get at auto parts store.
So glad this is an easy purchase if I need it. Thanks.

Agreed, Sony should let people have access to their supplier. But then again Sony is greedy and wants the revenue from out of warranty repairs.

Thankfully, I was raised in an Italian household and in Europe, the comma replaces the decimal point. So if something was say $3.50, in Europe, it would be written $3,50.

When you get your next refurbished device just remove the flap that you need from it. Just be careful when pulling it out and hold the white connector ribbon really good so that your fingers don't slide down it and rip the cover off (from the white piece).

There's nothing dishonest about that at all. They are sending you a replacement phone expecting to get one back without a flap, correct? I bet they would even give you permission if you explain that you aren't happy with the quality of the refurbished devices. The flaps are easily interchangeable without any repercussions.

No worries man. I'm glad there are still honest people out there with a conscience. I would suggest you to ask them though so there is no question about what you are doing. I'm fairly certain that they will allow you to. I would ask technical support rather than a normal CSR though. They seem to have more information. I've asked similar questions about refurbs and they are usually willing to do what it takes to make the customer satisfied (within reasonable limits). No harm in asking right?
