Restore messages - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I've got a s6 edge running android 6.01 on the rogers network in ottawa canada. My question is I've been using the default messaging app the one with the yellow icon and want to start using whatsapp. Is there any way to transfer my text messages from the message app to whatsapp so I can disable the stock messaging app. I've done some googling with no success.

Safe to remove stock messaging app?

I've installed go sms and have checked the option to deactivate notifications from the stock messaging app and only receive them from gosms. I am still getting two notifications sometimes. I was wondering if it was safe to freeze the stock messaging app via titanium backup. By the way I'm rooted on tmobile. Any help, thanks.

never remove any stock app like messaging or browser as these are connected to core processes and will render the phone useless.... don't even disable the messaging app as this will cause issues. Just go into the options menu of the sms app and turn off notifications for stock sms then adjust your third party sms app notifications as needed...
Wow never occurred to me to go in the stock app and disable notifications. Thanks a lot guys.

Disable the whole app from your app management in the settings too!

I only get the 'uninstall' option come up and not disable! I'm wanting to disable the default message app as I'm using GoSMS and currently encountering MMS issues. Would like to narrow down the cause by disabling the messages app....any help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: Solved

I ended up uninstalling go sms and handcent, disabled messenger app. rebooted and re-enabled messenger app. Then the icon was back.
Thanks for the help!

handcent sms question

I have a galaxy s4. I have handcent sms installed on my phone. I still have the regular android messaging app on my phone also. I just have handcent set as the default. I was wondering if there was a way to do this:
if i were to delete a text message from handcent, is there a way for the text to not delete from the android messaging app? i wanna have my android app keep all texts & not delete any, even if i delete from the handcent app. Is this possible??

[Q] GF No Longer Showing a "Reply to Text" option...

I'm running GFM 1.96.1124 and GF software R350XXU0BNG2. I no longer get the option to reply on the GF to any texts I receive. I have text templates setup on my phone (in the GFM).
Just so you know, I had the GFM 1.98.XXXX software previously, but backed it down to see if that would give me the text reply option again. Didn't work.
Any ideas from anyone?
Thank you,
Sammy
Are you still using the stock messaging app? If you are using a third-party app like GOSMS or Handcent you won't be able to reply.
I was using Messages+, which had worked, but stopped. I switched back to the default messaging app and it works now. Thank you.

Android Messages

Having issues where it's seems I'm missing text messages when having Android messages as my default messaging app. When I switch back to Samsung messaging app I'll get new messages.

I've had similar issue with samsung advanced messaging enabled. Give it a try with that setting off in the samsung messages app.

Is that in the Samsung messaging app? Because I'm using Google's messaging app.
