2-in the dev section there is a thread about all roms and kernels and it has some CsCs . does these ones need any specific things to work properly (like specific fimrware, kernel....etc)

If you have the Original Product Code yes .
You can flash relevant stock rom or branded rom .
2-in the dev section there is a thread about all roms and kernels and it has some CsCs . does these ones need any specific things to work properly (like specific fimrware, kernel....etc)
You flash a full firmware to either match your existing or a later one for an upgrade .
You pick CSC to match area of phone use .

Hi Guys,
at first I have to say that I am totally new at Android. The SGS2 is my first Android phone. So read many threads and infos about SGS2 root here root there but I didn't get what the advantage of rooting really is. What does it enable me to do more with my phone?
Could anyone plz make a pro/con list of rooting or not rooting?!?

how can i find this?
Original product code on the box under the battery .
Rooting opens up the OS to give more user rights means user can backup full rom and use programs that require root . But until you need root dont bother as it invalidates warranty though root can be removed .

Simple Answer: The first rule of rooting: if you have to ask why you should do it, don't do it.
Complex Answer: As JJEgan stated, it gives you more freedom to do what you want to do. For example manipulating system files (for themeing, firewalls, adblocking, etc), flashing custom roms and more. But with this freedom comes great responsibility. Since you can do anything, you can do anything wrong thus damaging your phone or bricking it (making it unusable). And by that we arrive again at the first rule of rooting...
On a side note: please don't take this the wrong way but you shouldn't hijack a thread that has nothing to do with your question. Search the forums if it has been asked already and then post in the appropriate thread or open a new one.

Hi Folks,
I want to root my S2which is currently on GB 2.3.6 with following specs:
Model : GT91000G
PDA:I9100GXWLC2
CSC:I9100GODDKL1
Phone:I9100GDDKL1
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version:I9100GDDKL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWLC2
I wanted to root without much flashing and here is what I was thinking.
1). Get the insecure Kernel and flash it.
2). Get install SU with help of Galaxy2root.zip application
3), Once rooted flash it with original Kernel.
Now my Question is: For my phone specs:
1). Where I can find Secure Kernel and insecure kernel? Links and name of kernel is preferred..
2). if I flash insecure and then flash secure kernel, will the binary counter increases?
Any other preferred method for rooting ensuring stock ROM is same?
thanks
SAM
Read the stickies. The only particularly important detail is that you have an I9100G. The rules tell you to search before posting, do you really think in the year the phone has been out, no-one thought to ask how to root?

Hey man..given that its a forum..people can ask questions. Lot of time even after reading on forum you may still not figure out whats right for you..so chill.
Help me with the answer...
He did help you with the answer. All the info you're after has been asked for on here hundreds of times before (and answered). If you can't find what you're looking for with XDA search, do a Google search and append XDA to your search terms (do you know how many results I just got with "root I9100G XDA" ?).

Hey boss..Same line of argument..Did u even read my questions..I am not able to find kernel both secure and insecure .. just want to know what kernel I can use..If I am mentioning this it does shows that I have gone through material on net etc.
Help and move on..
Answers for such basic questions are almost always in Development sections (sticky threads, guides and so on). So I strongly recommend you visit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585413 , these users will be definitely more likely to help you. General section is occupied mostly by i9100's users, and sorry but we have no idea about i9100G.
One word. Bull****. I.E - I don't believe you. I absolutely do not believe that I can type those search terms into Google, get all those results, yet you somehow can't.
I know what the issue is here. You can't be bothered reading. You want the information spoonfed to you. We don't do that here. People here are encouraged to read & learn. If you were asking a question that was complex/difficult, I'd be more than happy to oblige you. You're asking basics. Answers to basics are easily found with only a minimum of effort on your part.
That you can't be bothered even expending that minimal effort says a lot. It tells me you'll probably try and take shortcuts when you do work out how to root your phone, and experience on here generally indicates people who do that end up with borked phones.
I am moving on. And I certainly won't be offering any help should you end up borking your phone.
Also, you didn't say please in your OP, which shows me you also lack manners. In fact, your entire OP has this "I want, I demand, give me" smell to it.
You might want to take a step back & reflect for a moment that it might well be (actually, this is certain) that you are the issue here, and not the two people who have replied to your OP thus far.

thank.. I will search..Only reason I am posting here is that I cant post it on Development. Seems Tough to get Original Kernal and insecure. one.. THanks a anyways.
Hey Man,
It may possible that you are subject matter expert and that why you might be senior member. But it doesn't give you liberty to write like this. fact that I am posting shows that I was requesting.
After searching possibly everywhere, I am just asking which kernel etc..it is humanly impossible to all the entries on forum. Doing google only I came to knw the solution I wanted to pursue.
Any ways..I am rest assured that I will never lose my phone by flashing incorrectly.. It will be not because of you but many of other member who are willing to share there expertise without make so much of noise.
No Personal Feeling man..

Frequently Asked Questions
Samsung Galaxy S III - International GT-I9300
This a short list of frequently asked questions with answers related to the Samsung Galaxy S III. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document and refrain from posting "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How do I root my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300?
There are several methods to achieve this:
CF-AutoRoot by Chainfire
CF-Root by Chainfire
A custom kernel like Siyah, Speedmod and others which can be flashed with Odin or Heimdall
Use the toolkit by mskip
Q2: What can I do to conserve/improve battery life?
Official Samsung Touchwiz ROMs enable Smart Screen by default. You can tell it's enabled if you see an eye icon in the top right corner of your phones home screen. Smart Screen attempts to sense when you are looking at the screen to turn it on and to rotate the screen when you change your viewing angle but it is also notorious for draining the battery.
To turn it off go to Settings -> My Device -> Smart Screen then disable 'Smart Stay' and 'Smart rotation'.
To conserve your battery under official firmwares it is also recommended to enable power saving mode and, for all firmwares, you should turn off the WiFi, Bluetooth and your mobile data connections whenever you are not using them to minimize battery drain.
Q3: How do I flash (install) ROMs?
ROMs that come packaged as a .zip file are usually installed using a custom recovery tool such as TWRP or ClockworkMod. Unlike previous Samsung Galaxy S devices the recovery for the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 is NOT part of the kernel. Instead, the SGSIII has a separate recovery partition. Custom recovery partitions can be installed using Odin if you are running Windows or Heimdall, which is available for Linux/UNIX and Mac OSX as well as Windows.
Some ROMs come packaged as a .tar.md5 file. These can only be directly flashed using Odin. Heimdall users are required to extract the individual tar files from within the .tar.md5 file and then flash them to the correct partitions using an appropriate .pit (partition map) file. Heimdall can be used to generate .pit files by extracting the existing partition map from your phone. Note that .tar.md5 files are actually just regular tar files with an added .md5 extension.
Q4: How can I return to the stock ROM?
There is sometimes the need to revert to the stock ROM, for example when you need to return your device if its still under warranty. doovd made this great guide to the process.
Q5: What is Odin?
Odin is a leaked tool from Samsung. It is used to flash firmwares (aka ROMs) to phones. There are many how-to's covering the use of Odin, such as this. Others can be found on the XDA WIKI.
Q6: How do I unlock my bootloader?
There is no need to unlock the bootloader as it is already unlocked! This is the case for most Samsung devices.
Q7: I have heard about EFS. Why is this so important?
/EFS is a partition on your phone where your IMEI code is stored. Without it your phone is an expensive PDA as you will not be able to make calls. Make sure to have a backup of this partition on a separate device before you attempt to flash new ROMs. TWRP and Philz recovery let you backup the EFS partition.
The format of the EFS partition changed with the release of the MG4 modem firmware so this can cause issues if your modem version and EFS don't match. Here is an explanation of the Samsung firmware naming convention.
Q8: After flashing a ROM I cannot make calls. I now get a 'Not registered on network' error on my lock screen and if I look under Settings -> About Phone -> Status my IMEI begins with 0049 and my serial number has changed to a string of zeros. How can I fix this?
There are many threads on this forum suggesting this problem is caused by an EFS/modem mismatch or a corrupt EFS partition. This is a potential cause but its more likely you have flashed a ROM with the incorrect CSC (Customer Sales Code) for your phone network. For example, you can experience this error if you've flashed a BTU ROM when your network requires a H3G (Three) CSC. It can also be caused by flashing a ROM using the PDA instead of the CSC option under Odin. You can check your current CSC by dialling *#1234# or connecting your phone to Kies.
If you flashed with Odin and you're sure you flashed a ROM with the correct CSC, the first thing to try is flashing the same ROM using Odin's CSC mode instead of PDA mode. If your phone is rooted you can try changing the CSC mode using a CSC changer app but be warned that doing so will perform a factory reset - wiping all your settings, apps, messages and locally stored contacts etc. If none of those methods restore your correct IMEI, serial and network connectivity then a number of S3 users have reported success by flashing A.S._id's rescue firmware.
Q9: I'm sure I've correctly flashed an SGSIII ROM with the right CSC for my network but why can I still not make calls?
If your phone was running an Android version less than v4.3 before you flashed a new ROM then you may need to install a patched modem and, if you upgraded to a newer stock ROM, a patched kernel too such as the zuluman modem FW/kernel. You will usually not need to install a patched kernel if you install CyanogenMod or a CM-based ROM. A number of kernels and modem firmwares patched for Android 4.3+ are available here.
Q10: What is the best ROM for the SGSIII?
Galaxy ROMs come in two flavours. CyanogenMod-based ROMs and TouchWiz-based ROMs. CyanogenMod is completely open source and forms the basis of several derivatives such as AOKP, ParanoidAndroid and many more. These ROMs lack a number of features exclusive to Samsung's TouchWiz like Svoice, Smart Stay, S-Beam and so on. On the other hand, they generally perform better thanks to consuming less resources.
There is no such thing as 'the best rom', it is a subjective matter. Please read this sticky thread in the General section.
Q11: Where can I download the official firmware files from?
Official firmware files are available here.
Q12: How do I enable Debug mode?
Since Android 4.2 debug (developer) mode has been hidden by default. Debug mode can be enabled by tapping 7 times on Build number under Settings -> About Phone.
Q13: How do I enter Download Mode and Recovery mode?
Make sure your phone is unplugged and powered off, then:
Download Mode: Hold Volume down, home, and power until you see the green dude.
Recovery: Hold Volume up, home, and power for about 5 seconds then release all buttons. This might take a couple of tries.
Q14: What is the 'Flash Counter'?
Your phone's flash counter is triggered and incremented after installing a custom firmware. This is Samsung's way of knowing that you have modded your device. Thanks to the awesome people at XDA, this counter can be reset. Refer to this thread.
Q15: What is ADB and how do I use it?
[GUIDE] ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone
Q16: I've been asked to provide a logcat. How do I do that?
How to read a logcat/ Troubleshoot your own issues!
Q17: TitaniumBackup can't find my backups anymore!
This usually occurs after upgrading to Android 4.2 when users forget to also update the recovery partition. Older recoveries can't handle the multiuser support on the sdcards so your data got repeatedly shifted to a folder named 0, resulting in /sdcard/0/0/0... etc. That is where your backups have gone! You simply have to update TitaniumBackup's settings to point to the correct location and your backups will re-appear.
Q18: I have searched everywhere and still can't find an answer to my question!
Have you really searched everywhere? Google? Have you tried asking in the XDA thread relating to your problem? Have you read the stickies and FAQs? If you have honestly spent more than 5-10 minutes searching for an answer, post a new thread in the Q&A section.

My point is that there are already FAQS and Guides stickied that are unread .All bar question 12 have been posted for a long long time in the stickies .
But i will be honest i have no idea at all how mods can prevent this forum from degenerating even further .
Possible duplication of sticky s in both General and Q&A may help .

It's been a long time since I registered, but is there some kind of big splash screen that pops up saying read the FAQ/stickies? If not, there should be!
And it should be like one of those annoying t&c's things on windows apps that won't let you past until you have scrolled down.
In fact, you should have to read instructions, saying things like search/faq/stickies etc, then you have to answer 5 questions correctly before you can register!

If you have read Q12, you would have gone to the Note2 section instead of the i9300 one. And I have no idead what you are asking, let alone the answer.
i think you should change the answer to Q7

Well... with the risk of getting flamed... I really would like to get some advice Before I get started.
My Galaxy S3 is network locked to Three 3 Sweden. My first question... is this something I have to consider when rooting? I´m not concerned about warrantys and so on... my soul purpose is to get rid of some bloatware, ads and perhaps modifying a little. Not really flashing ROM´s as of yet, but who knows...
I would really like it if someone could point me in the right direction when it comes to files and so on, that I need.
My phone:
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband I9300NELK2
Version 3.0.31-742798
Compilationnumber JZ054K.I9300XXELLA
Some hints and tips would be nice.
First time on a S3 but far from first phone to root.

That has nothing to do with network. Rooting and sim unlock are two different things.

We're not going to regurgitate stuff step by step when it's been done thousands of times before here over the past two & a half years. There is a thread stickied near the top of Q&A which has a simple root method (and the whole point of having this thread stickied is so this stuff doesn't have to be posted in thread after thread for any n00b who can't search).
If that guide doesn't do it for you, search better. I mean, this phone was released 2.5 yrs ago, hundreds of thousands of people have rooted the phone with info found here, and that info is easily found by searching.
Same Phone Version... No kernel found.
I have the exact same phone description.
I went trought a lot of tread and list of kernel that I was suppose to choose from: I didnt find anything that correspond to my kernel version so far. It might be that I am not a total expert and that I am not able to recognise the proper download or we got a very rare version???
I tried a dozen so far, never work for all the possible reasons.
I know the process, I know all I need to know. I just dont find the one that fits my phone.
shanty31 Did you succeed finding one working? Anyone can only point out the proper kernel I need?
Thats gonna be my christmas present
Its not rare at all.Its the standard build for unbranded UK for starters.

At least hes not moaning lol.......
Ok... not rare. But still. Does that help me?
ANY kernel I tried end up with my phone not booting, boot loop, not switching on.
In ALL the list of kernel I have found so far, not a single one ''look like'' to be corresponding to what I need. Is there something I dont understand?
Yes I am new to rooting, but I have read and try and test.
The only thing I know I am doing wrong is FINDING the kernel corresponding to what I need.
It is no use to post anything if it is only to laugh at me or to tell me obvious things... I have done my homework.
Thank you again gang!
Amit

Hi! I found something that work :
You read that tread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
In the post #3 there is instruction for a method without using Odin.
I used that file:
PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSZ-OJC-5.15.9-signed
Found at this location in SEARCH section: (or use Google)
http://d-h.st/
Don't Unzip the file, leave it as it is.
I was not expecting using that method... it end up to be easier and faster than Odin.
My phone is now Unlock and work perfectly
Leave me your feedback of how it went with your phone... or any question
