soooo.... - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Don't shoot me, I clearly missed whatever drama happened here, but are there any devs actively working on root/BL for other variants? I'm on rs988.

It's sad. G5 is a good phone, but there are just a few devs. I have been considering buying a new phone. The first choice was G5, but because of bad development I'll rather buy OnePlus 3.

I've been using my G3 for 3 years, getting devs takes time, really. Some devs like @Kickoff, who greatly supported the G3, is around on the G5 forum
I say, b patient, eventually, someone will be able to unlock the bootloader of (hopefully) most G5, especially the Int variant.
then it's party time haha
But so far, i'm actually not missing root/xposed thiiiiiiis much. Maybe in 6months when i start getting bored.

G4 is still locked. I'm afraid that situation of g5 can be the same.

Can we petition to LG to also release an Unlocked Bootloader for the other variants?

Why don't you just buy the H850?

why does it need a new rom?

I didn't ask for a new ROM.

CloudyG3 wth say what you want here

Since the main CloudyG3 thread is for devs only or something.
For those wanting to try it out and you use the D800, I just wanted to say that I have no issues at all, and I mean none as far as normal phone function, now if some particular app does not work or if when pushing on screen with your elbow while drinking water I can not comment on. Battery seems great so far too, it is pretty cool that we get to have G3 stuff on our G2. Have not played with the smart tips stuff much, but split screen worked.
Only bug is I do not have a QHD screen, hopefully CloudyFa can fix that in next release, lol, I know that's not a bug, calm down.
Ok so im looking to buy a secondary phone to my S5 and im very interested in getting a G2 back (this will be my 5th G2) because of the new Optimus UI. So is this cloudyG3 rom awesome? What do u guys think of the new Optimus UI? Are you guys planning in getting the G3 now or it isnt worth it? Thanks in advance. Im looking to buy it tomorrow probably so your answers would be much appreciated

Coming from a HTC one and nexus lines this LG is my first and I must say it has given me a different learning cure thats for sure, I have bricked this g2 a few times "in the early days of owning" This gave me a bit of a challenge but that's what we all like right ?. But one thing is for sure it's a great phone for a small price. Buy one sure you won't be disappointed!
I'm tempted to get the G2 now instead of the G3 as I found the size of G2 to be perfect and I prefer the display.
Heard the FM Radio doesn't work and the photo quality isn't very good as the app is meant for the G3 camera. But it's a fantasic that it works so well so soon. Hopefully can load G2 camera app.

There are a couple of camera mods in the G3 dev section. I know that at least one of them has a version for G2 running a G3 port.

I am loving this rom, I can not see flashing anymore unless new version of this G3 is released. Battery is insanely good.

I am under the impression that only two versions of the G2 have functional FM radio out of box, I know my At&t D800 does not have the chip needed for this function.

I'll be buying the D802 International version which has FM radio, sim-free only S$530 (~US$424) here in Singapore. The G3 is S$770 (~US$616) which is actually quite tempting but I feel that comfort is more important than latest specs. The G2, for me, is just much easier to use single-handed. Really dislike the glossy plastic back cover though.
Looking forward to flashing this ROM straight away!
I love the g3 port but i havent been able to change any of my data settings mainly my roaming settings on my ls980. Do you guys have the same issue on other variants?

I talked with a lg rep a few nights ago and he told me we were getting android m. He said all lg phones were getting it, but i think he was referring to the flagship phones.

Blehhh. I hate to crush everyone's dreams, but cmon. Look how old this phone is, why would lg update this phone, what benefit will they get from doing it? And who will be mad if they don't? This almost dead sub forum? I hope I am wrong, but on the bright side, we will see marshmallow in cyanogenmod form most likely. When? Well, since most development has died we might wait for some time.

I hope we don't get the HTC treatment, I'm betting we will. This phone is well past the 18- month life expectancy. I'm sure a G3 M port will show up around here eventually.
Well Verizon G2 got lollipop before G3, so who knows what might happen.
As said in another post from another user, g2 fan base is bigger than g3 and g4 one
They NEED to update g2, if they do it, they will have only benefits from who is happy with g2, and will re buy a LG phone
Sorry for english ^^

If the G2 gets 6.0 upgrade, I don't think it is because LG wants to make us happy but it is a selling argument for them for the most recent flagship, like "Look, if you buy our phone, we will continue to maintain it when two new generations are available". If I didn't have a G2 yet, that would be a compelling argument for me to buy LG (G4, for example).
G2 mini is just barely 18 months old. Lame if they dont give one last and final update.
One time plz lg [emoji120]

Would be very great if the G2 gets an Update to M and not only G2 Users would benefit from an Upgrade also LG,because it would mean that the G2 had a Support for more than 2 years (which would be way better than other competitors like HTC,.)
that will be great. show that LG is a company which supports products longer than other companies.

I think this G4 on the photo , MSM8992. Here are some news from LG G3 Verizon . They got 5.1.1 .

Marshmallow

Does anyone have a day or time, we will be updated to the new android? T-Mobile version.
Soon...
How soon ..
Take a calendar, go to February, cross out days 1-15, then throw a dart on it. Pretty much as accurate of a guess as any.
It really sucks that LG has decided to shaft it's flagship in order to release 6.0 first on the G4, when all their advertising is for the v10.

I hate to say it, but the V10 is far from their flagship device. Maybe after releasing V10 variants a few times it'll get there. Until then, the G series is still considered the LG flagship, even if it is cheaper. I love the V10 more than most and I'm sure we will have MM sooner than later.

Exactly. The G series is their flagships. Their others are, honestly, niche devices that they don't really focus all their efforts on.

V10 vs G4: Decisions...

I come in peace...
Greetings. Chris aka Tophie here from Jamaica.
[I know there is an "introduce yourself first b4 spam...I mean posting" around here somewhere but...I'm skipping a bit].
I'm planning to purchase a new device from my current AT&T 2GB RAM S3 with CM13 - I had a Note 2 before that but it was stolen (the sadness ).
Long story short... I really like the G4 (cuz camera) and the V10 (cuz camera and video controls) but at the moment I'm not sure which one to choose. As a amateur/semi pro photog junkie I want either of these.
1. I read something about "international" version of the V10 won't be compatible with LTE (thinking long term for traveling reasons).
2. Still waiting on news about it being modded...because it's a thing to do.
3. The G4 is less expensive and pretty much does what the V10 does...minus the extra beef...and fingerprint reader.
I just need help in choosing. Personally I'm hell bent on getting the V10 just because it's odd and weird...and powerful, but the G4 gives me a sense of security [minus that bootloop thing I also read about here...sigh]
And yes, I'm talking about off-contract devices here.
Hope that gives some picture of my 'dilemma' - any hel/advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!
I have the LG V10, and the need for a custom recovery and bootloader unlock is not really required, custom ROMs are not really necessary either, the stock ROMs keep getting better and better each year, and any features, or UI changes you want to make can just be done with root (which we have already accomplished for all variants, correct me if im wrong. I am happily rooted and have Xposed, Greenify, and G4TweaksBox so I can theme it. Just whatever you do not buy from Verizon, not that I don't like them or anything but it is possible they updated all their phones in their store to Marshmallow which is unrootable atm. The AT&T variant should be fine, they have not sent me a Marshmallow OTA yet, so that should be good. And also, btw personally I was really considering the G4, because of its curved form factor, and amazing development support and great skins, cases, etc. In a nutshell the LG V10 is a LG G4 Pro edition, although the LG G4 should run just fine. The only real advantages the LG V10 has is 1GB more of RAM that really is not that necessary, nice, but not necessary. The G4 also has a much more established XDA forum, with development for every model, here we just got root like a few weeks ago, and we are still scrambling around. Who knows what the future might hold for the LG V10? We don't know. We already know whats in stock for the LG G4 so if you want a more secure option, that you might not regret, the G4 might be for you. The LG V10 is for the adventurous.
Side note, T-Mobile has unlocked bootloader support for the LG V10, so maybe try considering them if your not on a grandfathered plan, I hear they are working on CM 13 for it. The development over there is great as well. Good luck!

THIS is all too true.
I'm much more confident in a G4 purchase even with the V10's bells and extra beef to be honest...yet there's something that craves the V10 that I can't explain.
Must be all that power maybe... I've never owned a 4GB mobile device before so I'm rather curious.
All these issues with the different versions however leave me at a bit of a standstill [unless I get the AT&T version and somehow unlock it for use here in Jamaica...or get the Korean variant] - while the G4's international version works all around [yay support!]
All in all I may just get the G4 anyway [the G5 can pass...as awesome as it looks, I'm secretly more interested in the upcoming Note 6].
Thanks for your input
Any other comments are appreciated.
v10 has DAC. G4 has locked down equalizer. v10.

And to be completely honest, if the system is well optimized, 4GB wont do much for you 3GB is fine.
Still 50/50 :/
No purchases just yet - waiting on some funds specifically for it.
However I'm still going back and forth (can you blame me?).
Waiting on V10 price drops...and also eyeing it for manual video mode [the audio output on the G4 sounds rather...tinny... I'm a vocalist so I pat attention to these things for overall presentation].
The same confusion with the 4G band for the "international version' bugs me - is there a way to get the AT&T version and "cheat"?
LOL smh

Should I buy this device?

Hello guys! I was thinking on buying a new device. Currently I have Galaxy S6, but before this device I always had LG phones(LG G2, G3). I didn't like G4 mostly because of lack of fingerprint sensor silly reason but I use it alot. So now I was thinking on buying LG G5 or LG V10. I don't think I will use the modulars in LG G5(except maybe I will get an extra battery). So which one do you suggest for me?(you can make other suggestions also) Thank you in advance

Honestly, if you like custom ROMs at all, I would vote no on both LG phones.
I would rather be running CM versus a stock ROM + Xposed. Xposed just seems to have too many issues where apps or tweaks stop working.
I previously had a V10, then via a warranty exchange, they gave me a G5. I accepted the G5 since I decided the V10 was just too big and bulky and the G5 was newer.
Comparing the two, I prefer my G5 over the V10 still. I do feel like the G5 is much more fragile. It is just more plastic-y versus my steel-railed V10. Additionally, the latest software on the G5 is much more feature-filled and polished versus the V10. Don't quite understand why the V10 doesn't have a very similar build of MM, but w/e.
Alternatives? Maybe wait until Oct 4th so we can get a look at Google's phone?
I am probably a bad person for suggestions as it seems like no phone can meet proper standards for me... Now if say the S7 was built by HTC, unlocked, water-resistant, nice 5.1" size... Maybe I would have a new phone myself!

Well, I guess I am a believer that all high-end device cameras are pretty darn good now; Isn't much of a noticeable difference between most of them.
Looking at some lengthy comparisons- http://www.androidcentral.com/camera-showdown-s7-vs-6s-vs-6p-vs-950, looks like it is kind of a toss-up.
What I can't speak for is how fast it is... When comparing my last few phones, Nexus 5 vs V10 vs G5; I would say the order is G5, N5, V10. For whatever reason, from launch to snap took FOREVER on my V10. I LOVE how fast the G5 is, I can take a photo in like 2 seconds, which is a big advantage to me.

It's much more likely to get fully working CM on a Qualcomm device like the G5 than on an Exynos device like the SGS6 or SGS7.
The Nexus 6p is outdated, I wouldn't buy a Snapdragon 810 device now.
The G5 is lightning-fast and has a very good camera. Also the battery runtime is good IMO. With CM or AOSP it would be a tremendous smartphone, let's see if the camera issue will be solved.
But however you decide, you have to buy what you like most.

Sorry for asking all these questions : but is there any development going on on AOSP ROMS for G5? If so what variant should I get?
Depends on you. If you like stock. G5 is a great buy. I don't mind if the H860 has no custom ROM for now as long as the stock official ROM is stable and usable and runs great. To be honest the stock ROM is great. Battery is good, performance is good and everything else. I'm happy that I bought G5. A big leap from my LG G2. Camera, gaming, video and the like are great. Custom ROM's are optional and depends on the user. I do like custom ROM but I'm satisfied with my current state of my G5. :victory:
If it's not too expensive I would go for the LG V20. I am happy with my G5, but I have an european H850 with unlocked bootloader and for a great price
Look into the V20 if you don't mind a larger phone
The phone hardware is amazing but it doesn't have many roms on the software side. I would still get it if I were you. I've had big problems with the Cam+ module I got as a preorder. 3rd one works fine though.
Honestly if you are going to get the LG G5. Get the V20 instead.

I can get a used one, or bad esn from US(which are very cheap) and unlock it(because I currently live in europe)
I really like it. It took some time getting used to it but I got it on prime day really cheap, so cheap in fact that once I sell it in 2 years I probably will not have lost any money
Battery life is good the cameras are awesome and it is really fast. If you can get a good deal on it, go for it
