Changing ROMs - Backing Up Google Music Files? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I am switching ROMs, is there any way to backup and then restore my Google Play Music files?
I have nearly 40GB of playlists etc and would really prefer not to have to redownload them each time. Is there a way to backup a specific folder and then restore it after flashing the new ROM?
I understand they are DRM protected. I don't want to add them to my computer or anything, I just want to avoid the headahce of trying to DL 40gb of data on a very slow connection.

Hi,
I'd like to also step in and ask for a solution. I myself have 30GB that needs downloading everytime i install a new ROM.
I have tried to use Titanium to tell the system that some kind of ID stays the same, but apparently the music is deleted from the phone as soon as the phone is started for the first time, so I can't really tell whether this would work or not.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

[Q] Playlist Backup???

I know that there is probably a very simple solution to my problem, but I have yet to find it on our forums...
How do I, when flashing a new ROM, save a backup of my playlists in Music Player? I can't seem to find the files where they are saved in order to copy them and re-install them once my device is restored. I love experimenting with new software, but this is getting very old having to re-create all my lists every time I flash.
Help, anyone?
Instead of creating playlists on your phone, do it on MediaMonkey so you can just sync it when you put a new rom on.

I've never used that app before, but I'll try it out. Thanks!
Titanium Backup will backup/restore your playlists.

[Q] Custom Roms & Migrating Data

Hi Guys
I have a sg2
I'm a bit of a newbie forgive me i am coming from the dark apple side.
When you guys are flashing custom roms onto the phones e.g cyanogenmod
I assume your previous stock firmware stuff gets wiped
e.g. installed programs , settings, contacts, calenders . music & videos.
What do you guys do as a work around, how do u back things up and migrate your stuff across.
I'm not to concerned about programs & music files as those are a simple drag & drop from your pc, and copy & reinstall.
But what about Intricate settings e.g. alarm clock definitions, brightness , ringtone levels, wifi that sort of things
are they backed up & migrated when you change ROMS, do you use any special android software.
or do you just start again from scratch.
thanks in advance

You can backup your settings and everything before installing another rom. Few apps for that. One i use is called titanium backup. you wipe / install a new rom, run titanium backup and restore all your data and settings.

for the quick reply
does the backup also do those space hoggers e.g. Android App, Music files, Video files
or do you avoid these and backup these up manually,
reason i ask is samsung kies does a all in one backup , but its awfully slow !!!
works best just for the settings, space hoggers files must be unticked in kies to backup

As far as I know you can choose just to backup settings. You could also use something like MyBackup Pro which is what I used coming from the HTC Desire.
all android phones i've used, google backs up most everything for you. when you first start up the device, checkbox for backup to google servers is an option.
so when i start from scratch on a ROM, google restores my settings, wifi access points and password, wallpaper, all apps are restored from market free and paid, etc. the only thing not restored is call logs and texts, and of course specific app data.
for that stuff, most people use titanium backup.

[Q] Backup before rooting?

Hi, I'm new here as I just switched from my iPhone 3G to the atrix. I'm planning on rooting it soon but I want to make sure I don't screw anything up. I'm used to the iTunes backup and sync features, so I was wondering how that works on android phones, the atrix in particular. If something goes wrong and I can't access my phone, how can I restore it from my computer?
Also, how do apps sync? If I restore my phone to factory settings but apps are listed as installed on my account, then it won't let me reinstall those apps, will it?
Ok, I'm assuming there's no way to backup the phone without rooting. I was referring to something like making an image of the phone or atleast getting the basic firmware(like for the iPhone).
As for apps, if I get a new phone or wipe my current phone, I won't have to redownload anything right? Will it sync from the market?
But my data will be lost right (like game saves)? So I can use apps like Titanium Backup to that data right?
I just wanted to clarify this before I messed around with anything.
If you've wiped your phone, or get another phone, you can always download the apps you've purchased either from your phone or from a pc. They're linked to your gmail account.
Once you're rooted, you can use Titanium Backup. You can also use Tenfar's port of the Clockwork Mod to make what amounts to a snapshot of your current system via a nandroid backup. I've had to restore from that once after hosing my system. Works well.

(Q) how do I backup Google music play settings

All,
How do I make a backup of my settings, or which file do I need to extract when I want to make a backup of google play?
Issue is the follwoing, As google music currently saves all the music in the Data folder on the Phone (at least in my Galaxy Nexus) and no longer on the sdcard, every time I flash a new rom or an updat I loose Google music. obviously that is not an issue as I can reinstall the app, however the files I want to have locally on the phone need to be re-downloaded. the issue is that with the new install these settings have been lost, and I need to go back in the app and mark every file to be stored offline again from scratch.
I have also tried bracking up via Ti backup, however that leads into bigger problems as after restoring the app gets reset everytime I reboot....
Any help would be appriciated

anybody have any idea where I can start? Is this normal behaviour? what is the correct process to keep my settings when flashing a new rom?

Full ROM backup when space is almost full?

My storage is almost full and I'd like to create a backup of my current ROM before trying a new one. I can't create a backup from recovery since the backup size would be too big. I've already cleaned my system and deleted unwanted pictures/apps but I just can't get rid of enough of it. Is there a way to backup straight to a PC, or another solution entirely?
On another note, the reason my storage is so full is because of Play Music. I save a lot of music to my device and it's always such a hassle to have to re-download all the music after a rom flash. Is there a way around this?
