Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Moto Z's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Coming from the MXPE (moto x pure edition) there is no comparison. Speakerphone and all audio volumes are extremely low in volume. Need to have the phone on vibrate or I will miss calls and texts as that volume is also 1/4 the volume of the MXPE. I realize that the MXPE is not a fair comparison because of the stereo speakers and thickness of the phone, but the difference is enough that I am considering returning the phone. GPS nav useless, speakerphone useless, watching videos sucks unless you want to hold the phone 2 " from your ears. YMMV Just my experience with the phone and it sucks because otherwise even unrooted the phone operates as a beast.
EDIT update: I must have a defective JBL mod. In the phone settings there is a way to reset the mod, and when I reset it the speaker phone and GPS nav both have tremendous volume. Only problem is sound goes off randomly and I have to keep resetting the JBL mod for it to work properly. Will take it back and report back if that was the problem.
they keep the speaker low so you will buy the mods ^^. missed call all the time on my z force

LOL I have the JBL mod and the media volumes are fantastic but the ringtones and speaker phone are not very loud at all even with the mod attached. I don't know why they would tone that down so much to make it freakin useless also. That thing attached to the phone also makes it a real brick to carry around in a pocket, you better be wearing a belt !
Hoping like heck this thing gets rooted so I can play around with the sound files. Other wise it may be Hasta la vista for this phone.
Is Moto z Sound so low? Just boght One online, it didnt arrive yeat, already thinking in returning it. D=
Notification volume is terrible! Even on full barely audible. May return it after only one day

After a recent update it became much worse. Many people are complaining about it. You would think they would push another update to fix it.

Hi, this is a known problem.
Not hardware related...is a software bug added in latest update.
Plenty of info at Lenovo forum, and also a temporary fix....

Can't believe Lenovo haven't fixed this yet. Very poor show....

Cool! I'll have a try with that~ thx!
Coming from a droid maxx XT1080M, this device loudspeaker is awful. Although it has front facing speakers but watching youtube videos result in very low audio loudness. The droid maxx is almost identical to the Nexus 6P in terms of loudness, whereas the Moto Z is just marginally better than the iPhone 6S.
If you trawl through the 49+ pages of annoyed (soon to be ex-moto owners) in the official Lenovo forum
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z-Force/Quiet-notifications-moto-z/td-p/3420410/page/49
then there is a dude who contacted one of Moto's senior execs (Brazil) ... and their response was that this was introduced to prevent damaging some poor sods ears that had their lug next to the phone when a notification arrived (coz it's only got one speaker)
As such. this is a design feature that MOTO don't seem to highlight very much....INVISIBLE NOTIFICATIONS.... yes. it's the new craze !!! Strange that they don't showcase this a bit more !!!
So, if you think there will be a fix soon... forget it... it's a 49+ page thread on lenovorola's OWN forum and hee-haw has been done about it.
Rant over.

Is my EVO 3d faulty or is this just the way the speaker sounds? It's not very loud and has a tinny tone to it when watching videos or certain ring tones.

its no where near where the OG Evo was in terms on loudness..I can look passed it but damn its crazy low from what im use to
Coming from the Epic 4G, it's barely audible - the Epic had a monstrous speaker unrivaled by any other phone I've owned.
are they all like this? I typically put Pandora on when I take a shower and now I can barely even tell my phone is playing music, much less actually hear/enjoy it...
PC speakers always do the job for me, but yea I did notice the speaker isn't as loud as the OG EVo.
The speaker in my phone is horrible ... I shouldn't need external speakers to listen to my music.

quiet speaker, look at the speaker holes in the red rim of the camera...if someone mods it or comes up with a new back cover, it would probably be louder
I think the speakers just aren't that powerful. They're clearer than the old Evo, but probably only go up to around 75% as loud.
yeah this was a day 1 issue for me..Got Equalizer from the Market and all is good now..Still not a good as the evo4g but better to deal with than stock.
I was with some friends on the fourth of July and trying to entertain us with my new fancy device by playing music and it was so low or was ridiculous. I have found a remedy through. At staples is an external speaker for phones that is only 6.99. It is pretty small enough to be portable and decently loud.as long as this is with me that problem is Now eliminated.lol
It's not the speaker grill... You can take the cover off and it sucks exactly the same...

yep..grill has nothing to do with it..Its just a small speaker..Very tinny sound to it too.Im getting use to it though.Only time i get mad is when my wife is near me with her OGEvo and it rings or if shes on a voice call on speaker phone.
The Evo 4G speaker was just perfect, deep and loud.I remember playing music quite loud on the 4G..Oh well,im over it kinda

Hello.
Does the speaker so bad and weak like they say in all reviews?
Can someone maybe could upload a youtube video of the speaker playing some music?
Thank you!
Google 'mobilegeeks YouTube'.
Nicole and Sacha have done some great comparison videos
It is by far the weakest aspect of the phone.
Let's just say if you had this phone in your pocket and you werent in a very quite place, you will NOT hear it ring.
I was at a mall with average number of crowd, nothing too loud, typical mall noise and I completely missed the ring and only noticed via the vibration.
Bluetooth earphone is a must or like me, don't use it as your daily driver phone and more of a tablet/media consumption device.
Speaker low? I own this phone and speakers are louder than my HTC Sensation XE, Nexus 7 and Asus transformer prime. Was really surprise by it at first use as people said it was poor. Or maybe it is poor for people who like to hear music in public place?

According to GSM Arena's test, the Ultra's speaker can be compared to the Lumia 920 and iPhone 5's speaker. Check under "Ringing phone, dB".

Wondering about the same thing - the speaker volume is noticeably lower than what I was used to on my previous Note 2. Hope i a.m not stuck with a defective unit! I too have missed a few calls simply because i could not hear the ring.
Btw, the Note 2 had custom ROMs which allowed you to boost the speaker volume (medium boost or high). Would be great if we could install a patch that did the same on the XZU
This phone only has one mono speaker and as it's waterproof, it's behind a skin to keep the water out, so yes, it is lower than stuff like the note 2. Every single review I read and saw warned of this.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah, it's technically a loud speaker. But it's just poorly placed, recessed, and water proofed. For hearing the ring tone, it's fine. But listening to music or playing videos, it's definitely one of the big negatives for me.
In fact, if I don't place my hand around the speaker to reflect sound, it would almost be unusable in certain situations. Which is unfortunate given its large video friendly screen.
Bottom line, either don't have high expectations for the speaker and/or go the external speaker route.

wooow looks nice
are you going to make a review about it later or is it just a bragging post ?
clearly a bragging post. :good:
someone in this forum also has the boom bass and has spoken about it already as well...
i have had one for a couple weeks now but didnt bother to speak about it because there are several vids on the internet about it... one more wont make any difference..
it does sound great with soundcloud. i have a grippy kind of case (waiting for the batter case i pre-ordered) so it stays put on the slide out floor thingy..
having the audio at max setting is the best way to get the most bang for the sound.
the crossover point could be a bit lower because you can hear some voice tones in the bass speaker.
overall its a great option to have tunes on the fly... go pick one up!

Greetings!
I am actually considering picking up one of these puppies!
I have my One Max encased in an OtterBox Defender case. It's rather thick... do you think it will fit on the stand or will it hang over the edge?
Thanks!
it will most likely hang over the edge.
i have the htc battery flip case and it will not fit on the boombass stand, so i just flip the phone landscape and place it right in front of the htc boombass and dont use the slide out drawer for the boom bass. same difference...
Some can tell me if the sound is really good before buying it ? I tried this one with friends, very good sound, but the price is more expensive than Boombass ...
no way my friend the Bose is perfect in every product it has fantastic audio quality
i tried it
Ok thanks, i order now BoomBass ...
:laugh:great order one for me and send it to me in Egypt :good:
I received boombass, really a great sound, but i've also bought an audio bluetooth receiver connected to my audio system to party with my friends !
I got a BoomBass and I really like it. Very decent sound. The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't really play with my phone while it's on, because it sounds better when it's set with the BoomBass instead of in my hands.
But it's a pretty slick device. To turn it on and pair it with your phone you just hold you phone over the top, and it activates via NFC. Kinda cool.
I'm using those earphones but can't make them actually noise cancel anything really.
I've tried using them near a fan, engine, centrifuge, window, air - conditioner, anything with really stable and usually really cancellable noise, but the earphones don't really cancel and sometimes even produce crackling or other distortion sounds and break the experience of listening to music or voice.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior?

What did you expect? Silence?
Noise cancelation just reduces the surrounding noise a tiny bit.
The first time I plugged the headphones in I accidentally deactivated NC by activating Stereo Mic, and when I used the earplugs I was like "wow, nearly no outside noise" because my old ones let nearly everything trough.
Then when I first activated NC in the settings I couldnt find a big difference, I think the most effective is in a train with lots of people talking. There it seems to work kinda well.

It worked really well with paper smashing next to me for a test or sitting on a bus... i was impressed how effective it was.
But im using Xears earphones, the NC headset sound quality its very poor.
These are good at blocking because of quality earpiece, but NC part is far from NC headphones I've tried from other manufacturer, can't remember which one atm. There, I didn't hear any of repetitive noise I've tested these with.
I had high hopes that I'll at least be able to not hear ventilation shaft noise and other office noises that perfectly fit NC usage (constant, regular, repetitive...)

What matters is not how repetitive the noise is, but what frequencies it covers. Most active noise cancelation even in high-end headphones like Sennheiser covers a pretty narrow frequency range.

Do you guys think the v30 will have more of a volume boost with it having a quad dac? My s8+ with my etymotic earbuds has to be turned up about 3/4 of the way in the volume to be enjoyable. I have sensitive ears and the s8+ is still too quiet. I know it will have a better sound, but what about the volume output?

None of the reviews (with pre-production model) have mentioned low volume, but have mentioned how much better the audio sounds. Until someone actually gets the production phone in their hands there's no way to answer the question.
Still with the S8+, why isn't 3/4 of the way good enough? You still have another 1/4 to make it "too loud".
Many smartphones have earphone volume limits on purpose so as not to damage your hearing. In Europe especially the phones have lower volume than U.S. because the EU apparently thinks European ears are more sensitive to damage? That was proven with the ZTE Axon 7, where Europeans had to flash U.S. image to get proper volume. With root you can bypass that volume limitation, of course.
Higher output would just be a plus. I get sick of confirming that I want a higher volume after restarting the phone. And even with the volume all the way up, while streaming to my car, the stereo needs to be 3/4 of the max volume.

So your phone isn't rooted then? You must have the U.S. Snapdragon Samsung?
With root, you have total control over your phone. It's YOUR phone -- not the carrier's phone, not the manufacturer.
"Please, kind sir, let me have more volume."
With root, you have what you want, it's YOUR phone.
Dude, I'm no noobie to this. But no, I don't have root as this is a free s8+. I don't buy Samsung phones, but will take them for free. I know all about the volume limits and the such and why they're there.

Too bad you couldn't have gotten a free Exynos S8+ so you could root...
I guess then I don't need to mention you need the "carrier unlocked" version of the LG V30 for bootloader unlock and root?
No bueno
I just upgraded from an HTC 10 to the V30 and there is a definate loss of output power. Although the quad DAC is, well...god. God screaming in your ears. Different settings as seen in my pics make everyone happy. I use with my JBL S700 Synchros with Poweramp music player app using all FLAC files. Its loud for enough people but not quite as screaming loud as the 10bwas. Quality made up for it. No distortion. Super happy.
I'll answer any questions you guys have!
Ps...
In the time that I have been sitting here writing this I have adjusted to the sound more and image in love. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Perfect......

You will. From what I've seen/heard with my ears, it adjusts to higher-impedance headphones.
Coming from the G5 with hi-fi dac module, the volume on both was a bit low, but the quality was alot better.
Using a mobile amp does make a huge difference to the setup (depending on the headphones)
