Do you guys think the v30 will have more of a volume boost with it having a quad dac? My s8+ with my etymotic earbuds has to be turned up about 3/4 of the way in the volume to be enjoyable. I have sensitive ears and the s8+ is still too quiet. I know it will have a better sound, but what about the volume output?

None of the reviews (with pre-production model) have mentioned low volume, but have mentioned how much better the audio sounds. Until someone actually gets the production phone in their hands there's no way to answer the question.
Still with the S8+, why isn't 3/4 of the way good enough? You still have another 1/4 to make it "too loud".
Many smartphones have earphone volume limits on purpose so as not to damage your hearing. In Europe especially the phones have lower volume than U.S. because the EU apparently thinks European ears are more sensitive to damage? That was proven with the ZTE Axon 7, where Europeans had to flash U.S. image to get proper volume. With root you can bypass that volume limitation, of course.
Higher output would just be a plus. I get sick of confirming that I want a higher volume after restarting the phone. And even with the volume all the way up, while streaming to my car, the stereo needs to be 3/4 of the max volume.

So your phone isn't rooted then? You must have the U.S. Snapdragon Samsung?
With root, you have total control over your phone. It's YOUR phone -- not the carrier's phone, not the manufacturer.
"Please, kind sir, let me have more volume."
With root, you have what you want, it's YOUR phone.
Dude, I'm no noobie to this. But no, I don't have root as this is a free s8+. I don't buy Samsung phones, but will take them for free. I know all about the volume limits and the such and why they're there.

Too bad you couldn't have gotten a free Exynos S8+ so you could root...
I guess then I don't need to mention you need the "carrier unlocked" version of the LG V30 for bootloader unlock and root?
No bueno
I just upgraded from an HTC 10 to the V30 and there is a definate loss of output power. Although the quad DAC is, well...god. God screaming in your ears. Different settings as seen in my pics make everyone happy. I use with my JBL S700 Synchros with Poweramp music player app using all FLAC files. Its loud for enough people but not quite as screaming loud as the 10bwas. Quality made up for it. No distortion. Super happy.
I'll answer any questions you guys have!
Ps...
In the time that I have been sitting here writing this I have adjusted to the sound more and image in love. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Perfect......

You will. From what I've seen/heard with my ears, it adjusts to higher-impedance headphones.
Coming from the G5 with hi-fi dac module, the volume on both was a bit low, but the quality was alot better.
Using a mobile amp does make a huge difference to the setup (depending on the headphones)

They also have a black version. These earphones are pretty cheap ( I bought them for 20 euros, they sound good , nice deep tones and bass)
Ouch, Sennheiser. They make great headsets but for me those bass-tones is way too much. Personally I use d-Jays. Crisp yet powered sound. I love them. Edit: Forgot price. Lol. In Sweden I can get them for about $100 and that's pretty nice. But yeah, it's way more than €20.
Looking to get a set of BH-905's when I get a free bit of cash!
Seemingly I cant post a link to them as thats not permitted for newbies
Just to help you out, here's a pic of them.
Are you guys able to speak into the phone's Mic when using your own earphones during a call? Mine can't and I have to plug them out when a phone comes in.
Im thinking about getting the CX500 earphones... got a price of £29.99... which seems to be good...
I want to have bassy sound but want my mids and trebles...
I am currently using boss earphones...
CX500's sound good. I can't remember what mine are, but they are Sennheisers that have exactly the same buds as the Sennheisers Sony Ericsson use on their HBH-DS970 bluetooth headphones.
For arguements sake, the DS970's go louder than when using the headphone socket on the X10, but the headphone socket sounds nicer.
Been doing some comparisons Nexus vs X10 vs iPod Touch 3G with the same headphones.
Nexus goes louder than X10, quality doesn't sound as good, but it's rooted with Cyanogen which makes the volume louder.
Touch goes a lot louder than both devices, enough to hurt my ears, but does so with high quality. I can't decide whether or not the quality is better than the X10, it's very close.
My headphone tastes are bias towards bass, but I do like the mids and treble to remain...just like to have a thump also!

Is it a european or american touch?
The european union puts a volume restriction on the iPods sold in europe, therefore an american (or asian or whatever) iPod Touch would be louder than a european one.
(just thought that might be a factor in the volume department)
Not all european iPod's are subject to such measures IIRC. I know france is, and it is something I checked before purchase, as a 85dB limit would have been no good!

I can't wait to get mine. I sent in the Rogers promo claim form on Monday, so it'll be a few weeks at least.
I'm using the included X10 headphones right now, which are decent. I'm surprised that for earbuds that don't go into the ear canal, they actually stay in my ears pretty well (most such earbuds I've tried don't).
I did take a quick look at the local shopping center today while I way there for some buds that wrap over the ear, as I find them more comfortable and they stay in my ear better. However, I couldn't find any headphones of any style that had short cords like the ones included in the X10. Since the X10 has the mic dongle (which I use) I don't want to have an extra few feet of cable hanging around.
Anyone found any decent headphones that are on a short cable like those included with the X10?
I am using MW600 too.
I find the volume control is not that sensitive.
I have to swipe a couple of time before I can get it working.
Is it normal?
Hi! All. is it possible to use bluetooth headphones to listen to music with the galaxy tab? any compatibility issues i should be looking out for before buying if its possible to use.
of coz it is possible
Even better, the 7.7 supports the APT-X Bluetooth codec/profile, which sounds noticeably better than regular A2DP. Of course you need a receiver that supports APT-X as well.
I picked up an LG Tone Bluetooth headset.
It allows phone calls (with my tablet or my EVO) and can be used as a stereo headset for videos, music, etc.
Battery lasts a long time and works great for me.

Hmm, I doubt that the hardware is different in the Verizon version - also, APT-X can be both AFAIK, either hardware- or software-wise implemented. Maybe it's just a firmware difference, or maybe they just didn't write down the whole specs.
Nah, haven't tried those Senns - do they support APT-X? (So far my only experience with APT-X was on the Creative Zen X-Fi 3 with a small Samsung APT-X adapter/receiver, and my regular IEMs plugged in. The sound quality was pretty much as good as wired, to my ears.)

I use a set of Sony DR-BT21G headphones. They are excellent but alas they were discontinued a few years ago and Sony never brought out a followup model :-(
The only real drawback to them is lack of USB charging - they use a silly 3.3V Sony charger (which I think was also used for minidisc players, perhaps why they chose it as maybe they originally thought to make it for MD players).
I plan on using my Motorola S10 HD when I get my tab. They work really well with my xoom currently.

These type of earphones are called earbuds.
I have bought mine from Aliexpress (a site like ebay), and they have been working great so far.
If you actually enjoy music, pick up one of these to try with a decent pair of headphones. Sky's the limit price wise on headphones so it depends on your budget. If you want a good cheap pair i would recommend these.
I strongly recomend Philips SHE8005 headphones .

I was just looking at that Aliexpress, http://gaga.aliexpress.com/210698610-1110017854-detail.html?spm=a2704.6645961.3.1. Whoa.
Must be some fake or something
Not sure whether it is fake, but we will never know. I have seen some of these extreme deals on aliexpress, the fact is that there are only 5 for this price and they run out as soon as the deal comes alive (= in less than a second) However, I do not recommend buying such things, the devil never sleeps.
But what you would buy on ebay, you can buy from aliexpress too, I did not have a single problem with them and they have a large selection of earphones/earbuds/headphones.
I recommend Panasonic RP-HJE120-K, they'r cheap and play very good, like hi-end earphones if You like warm, clear sound, especially with V4A.

Fiio amps (or portable amps in general) are really intended for full-sized over the ear headphones. The added power is much more apparent because IEMs (earbuds) are already running at just about the peak of their power. I will say, though, that I own a Fiio E6 with a pair of NuForce NE-700M (a top-ranker in multiple sub-$100 quality lists, including Wired.com; can be had for $75, $65 without the microphone), and there is a notable difference in dynamic range and achievable volume.

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Moto Z's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Coming from the MXPE (moto x pure edition) there is no comparison. Speakerphone and all audio volumes are extremely low in volume. Need to have the phone on vibrate or I will miss calls and texts as that volume is also 1/4 the volume of the MXPE. I realize that the MXPE is not a fair comparison because of the stereo speakers and thickness of the phone, but the difference is enough that I am considering returning the phone. GPS nav useless, speakerphone useless, watching videos sucks unless you want to hold the phone 2 " from your ears. YMMV Just my experience with the phone and it sucks because otherwise even unrooted the phone operates as a beast.
EDIT update: I must have a defective JBL mod. In the phone settings there is a way to reset the mod, and when I reset it the speaker phone and GPS nav both have tremendous volume. Only problem is sound goes off randomly and I have to keep resetting the JBL mod for it to work properly. Will take it back and report back if that was the problem.

LOL I have the JBL mod and the media volumes are fantastic but the ringtones and speaker phone are not very loud at all even with the mod attached. I don't know why they would tone that down so much to make it freakin useless also. That thing attached to the phone also makes it a real brick to carry around in a pocket, you better be wearing a belt !
Hoping like heck this thing gets rooted so I can play around with the sound files. Other wise it may be Hasta la vista for this phone.

Cool! I'll have a try with that~ thx!
Coming from a droid maxx XT1080M, this device loudspeaker is awful. Although it has front facing speakers but watching youtube videos result in very low audio loudness. The droid maxx is almost identical to the Nexus 6P in terms of loudness, whereas the Moto Z is just marginally better than the iPhone 6S.
If you trawl through the 49+ pages of annoyed (soon to be ex-moto owners) in the official Lenovo forum
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z-Force/Quiet-notifications-moto-z/td-p/3420410/page/49
then there is a dude who contacted one of Moto's senior execs (Brazil) ... and their response was that this was introduced to prevent damaging some poor sods ears that had their lug next to the phone when a notification arrived (coz it's only got one speaker)
As such. this is a design feature that MOTO don't seem to highlight very much....INVISIBLE NOTIFICATIONS.... yes. it's the new craze !!! Strange that they don't showcase this a bit more !!!
So, if you think there will be a fix soon... forget it... it's a 49+ page thread on lenovorola's OWN forum and hee-haw has been done about it.
Rant over.
Hi,
I have recently purchased the LG V35 and liking it thus far.
I thought I would enjoy the improved sound quality provided by the quad DAC, but honestly I'm not sure if mine even works.
I'm using Tidal hifi, a pair of "SYNC by 50 cents" headphones and a pair of basic sony earphones (all I havr for now).
Plugging the headphones in, the phone suggests activating the quad DAC which lights up the DAC icon in the notification bar.
It all sounds the same. Good, but the same on and off.
Tried fooling the phone into aux mode which bumped up the volume a bit.
What am I missing? Should there be a eureka moment with DAC switched on or are the differences really so subtle? Are my ears at fault? Subpar headphones? The phone itself?
The DTS:X surround option does make music sound different, suggesting i'm not a complete philistine.
Any help appreciated
Do your earphones have at least 50 ohms impedence? You want HIM. High Impedence Mode.
Download the Hi-Fi Status (LG) app. It will tell you if you're in HIM.
Hi-Fi Status (LG)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptrio.hi_fi_status&hl=en_US
The quad DAC will try to make any earphones sound better, but reserves the "good stuff" for HIM.

Thanks! I think both are below 50 Ohms as the app says "normal audio device".
Does the DAC work the same below 50 Ohms? read a bit about impedance and found some say it's important while others are saying it's not relevant in terms of quality, only for volume.
Found a good deal on Klipsch X6i and X12i, both are 50 Ohms. Will they work? Any experience with these?

The quad DAC does work below 50 ohms, but not necessarily all 4 channels? It tries to make all headphones sound as good as possible, but there's a reason LG put in HIM (High Impedance Mode). LG thinks (fairly or not) that premium headphones are going to have at least 50 ohms impedance. HIM will give a bigger soundstage and the quad DAC will work harder.
The headphones you mention are excellent and do have 50 ohms, but I'm not sure if the HIM trigger point is exactly 50 ohms or if over, you know? Here's some below for a lot less money and you can test the quad DAC to see if you hear a difference. They will definitely trigger HIM.
SoundMAGIC E80S RED Reference
Impedance: 64 Ohms
$49.95
Then you can buy the Klipsch X6i or X12i, if you wish -- if you see the quad DAC is working right with HIM.
