I've made a mistake while searching for the model number, now I see this is the correct one. Thanks.

This is good news.

Progress!

Alright, we could start seeing some progress on root/custom ROMs soon. With those things, I'd have no reason whatsoever to even consider the OnePlus 3

Just the kernel I think.

Does this include everything needed for a custom ROM? Camera HAL? Fingerprint sensor driver?

This isn't progress. This is kernel source. Axon Pro's kernel source was also released.

Except this time around they're actually considering unlocking the bootloader. With everything they announced thus far, it seems like it could really be true. Of course, they can always change their mind about it later.

Wouldn't this help with development if the bootloader does get unlocked? Obviously it's useless to us at the moment if half of us still don't have the phone in our hands.

If you wanted to compile your own kernel, sure. There is nothing here to base a rom off of though. Bottom line is its useless without a boot loader unlock, no matter how many of us have the phone in our hands.

The kernel source code is what's needed from the manufacturer for custom Roms. Everything else can be extracted from the device. This can give a developer a headstart on device trees before the bootloader unlock.

When Verizon confirms it on twitter, I'll believe it
Week of 7/24, way to pick a tuesday. HTC has said we will get it by the end of july as a soak test and then roll the rest out on august 3rdish, this upcoming friday. We will most likely see it this upcoming week or the week after barring any trouble verizon has.
EDIT: alos just saw android police post the same thing... http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...etting-its-ics-upgrade-as-early-as-july-29th/

Wouldn't there need to be the addition of LTE connection code for the models with that capability? Seems like its not completely straight forward, but also not as extensive as the modifications that were required for some devices in the past.
The bootloader is a huge issue. From reading other LG blogs, LG doesn't unlock them and finding a work around hasn't been easy.

There's a chance we could use the Nexus Bootloader. It is risky though and could result in a brick. But yeah, there will need to be some LTE code.

While I'd be fine with HSPA+ as the top end data connection, I'd still like to have LTE, if these brilliant minds can add it in :silly: I'm guessing that if they can figure out the bootloader, then we can have what ever our devices will support.
Bootloader is unlocked, only a matter of time before devs start porting over roms from the nexus 4

No,
I'm sure it will be more than possible. They just overclocked the Nexus7 to 1.7+ from 1.3 (actually to 2.0Ghz but it's not entirely stable I think). Once we get kernel source and the devs get a chance to work their magic I'll bet it'll be possible. However, there comes a point when enough is enough...and this little breast is more than capable "as is". To much more is overkill for what a cell phone is needed (used) for.

Most surely not directly as is. There will need to be changes or modifications of some kind in order for things to work correctly. The Nexus 4 doesn't havean external sd so won't have code to read one. Ours will need it. The 4 doesn't have native LTE, so their kernel probably is not set up to control that. I'm no kernel developer so I might be off base here...if so, someone please set the record straight. Thanks in advance.

[Q] One click Root?

Anyone willing to try this? I'm curious as to how it works considering the only methods out there right now require getting superCID then using HTV Dev to get the unlock code and the former no longer works...

To me, you would think this, being a pretty big development, would break here on XDA.
While I am hoping its true, as I am holding off until something like this is released, it just seems a little to good to be true.
But go for it if you want!
Just follow a guide on here, it's pretty much dead simple to unlock your bootloader through HTC. I highly doubt this is legit but in the time it took you to make this post and wring your hands about it you could have unlocked the bootloader, rooted and installed a custom rom.
netstal trembley
im not saying its not legit but, like said a couple of posts above, if it was legit, i'd think it would be xda by now
My theory - If no one has commented anything at all and there's no one to vouch for it, don't become the martyr or the first victim.
I'm happy about the feed back from you guys. This is the reason I posted it here, because I knew someone would have a good insight about this topic.
I'm staying away
Thanks

Click the download button and it says right there that it won't work. Only supports android up 4.0.3, and no HTC devices although they hope to support them in the future. It's virus free according the VirusTotal, but I still wouldn't use it on a supported phone without confirmation from someone else that it won't ruin it.
Hi, I'm one of the people behind the development of One Click Root. I can assure you our software does not contain viruses or any other malicious code.
The poster above me is correct. We currently don't have support for HTC devices as we're still working on a few of the finer details of automating HTCDev.com bootloader unlocking. We do hope to add support for HTC devices in the near future, along with a number of the most popular new devices on the latest ICS and Jelly Bean OS versions.

From the looks of this, you just followed instructions from this thread here now, even though this appears to have worked, I would not suggest going through with actually flashing anything or making backups.
The reason is partitions are different across some of the G3 devices and it would not be a smart idea to risk flashing something to a wrong partition, especially since there are 16 and 32 gb models.
With that, it looks like there is a bypass on the VZW model which is a good sign for future use.

Yes we can. This is no different than flashing a custom ROM using safestrap on a Samsung product. I don't think you guys realize how big this is. While its not a boot loader unlock, we will be able to flash custom Roms based on factory ROM.
Hoping we get Aosp soon.
