I got my self a USB3 Type C cable to use with my phone for faster transfer of files from my Phone to my PC but it is very buggy.
Using the new cable with a USB 3 port I get all sorts of wired bugs and problems.
Most of the time my G5 wont show up on Computer so I can copy the files over. But it does work in Photo transfer mode but that limits access to the internal memory and photo folder only.
But If I connect using a USB 2 port everything works fine albeit slower.
So,
USB 3 cable in a USB 3 port = Buggy & Not working 99% of the time But does charge the phone.
USB 3 cable in a USB 2 port = Everything works fine
Anyone else have issues? Is there a known bug?
Hi - My g5 850 Works fine with original cable on a USB 3 Port.

same here
original cable and 3rd party cable seems just fine
Same here, no issues with original or 3rd party cable.
Just like to point out that the cable that comes with the phone is not USB3 it is just USB2

I'm looking to be able to use my external HDD (1TB WD passport) on my phone via OTG. As I understand, ntfs support varies with kernels etc but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it as I think there's a more fundamental problem.
I've got an OTG cable, and my mouse, usb pen drive, keyboard etc work with it. The HDD doesn't, because the phone can't provide enough power to operate the thing. I thought I could get around this by connecting it via my usb hub (which runs off external mains power) but when I connected this up to the phone and plugged the HDD in nothing happened. Likewise, the mouse and pen drive etc could also not be recognised by the phone when they were each plugged in via the hub (one at a time, I wasn't trying to run 8 things at once!) even though they worked perfectly when the phone itself was powering them when they were directly plugged into the OTG cable (if that makes any sense).
So, assuming it was a problem with the hub, I instead tried the method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828032 and made my own y type cable so that now rather than the phone providing power to the OTG peripheral, the power now comes from a standard USB phone charger. I'm fairly confident that I did all the soldering correctly and there weren't any short circuits.
When I tried using this, I had the same issue as with the hub. None of the mouse, the pen drive etc could be recognised with the modified OTG cable, which was odd as physically nothing had changed from the point of view of the peripheral plugged into the OTG (the data cables connecting it to the phone were unchanged, and it was still getting 5V power, just from the wall rather than my phone) which makes me think perhaps the problem is a software one where the phone only recognises a USB peripheral/begins USB host mode if the peripheral is actually draining power, since the power leads running from the phone side of the OTG cable are now just an open circuit.
Just to confirm I hadn't just snipped a data cable by accident when modifying the OTG cable, I re-soldered the OTG cable to how it originally was and it worked the same way it had previously. This means all the data cables are still intact, so I think it must be a software issue.
I thought maybe a way of testing this would be to modify the y cable and connect the red and black power cables coming out of the phone to each other via a fairly hefty resistor (so you still get power flowing from the phone even though the USB peripheral is powered by the wall). But it seems a bit dangerous!
Has anyone else had trouble with this? I've read around on forums and for a lot of people USB hubs and y type OTG cables seem to "just work", although I've not seen anyone with an i9300 reporting success. I'm running the latest version of liquidsmooth, but have also tested on CM10.1 and have the same problem. It might be an AOSP thing that stock samsung firmware will fix?
Let me know your experiences!
TLDR: I'm pretty sure I've got a software issue where my i9300 only recognises a USB peripheral/begins USB host mode via OTG if the peripheral is actually draining the phone's power, and so doesn't work when a USB hub or externally powered (y type) OTG cable is being used.
Thank you!
It apparently only supports 500GB regardless of power source

Really? That's odd - is that an android limitation or samsung? Either way it still seems weird that my y cable/hub didn't work for the mouse/keyboard, is that something you'd expect?
Sorry I didn't read that part.
I have a portable passive hub. Kb and mouse working fine...

USB powered hub, 6 USB 3.0 ports, ethernet adapter, and it works well. I'm having some problems with other accessories but do not think they are because of the hub
which ROM are you on?
This worked sporadically for me with CM, but switched to lollirock (which works great for the app store / compatibility) but the ethernet stopped working.
I've found also that I had to use a USB 2.0 cable to connect to ethernet, was this a similar experience for you? I'm going to return it for a refund, but if yours is on lollirock and you're using full usb 3.0 cabling, then I might just ask for a replacement from Aukey.

I do not quite understand the question. The Hub is connected to its own cable and ethernet cable to it. I do not need any extra USB cable. 2.0 or 3.0. If you mean the adapter otg was one he had at home. To me the Ethernet connection works properly with lollipop 5.1.1. Also it seemed to work with M

if we do not charge anything can we connect the hub to a usb port and use the ethernet and 1-2 usb sticks without plug the power adapter?
On my Le Max2 OTG does not work .... and in your?
How can I fix the problem?
I didn't have a device to try that, but I tried connecting a gamepad via bluetooth and tried to listen my music via bluetooth (Car-Media-Device was the output). Neither of them worked.
Bluetooth working fine on 14S ROM. A little slow to connect but I have connected 4 items and all work fine @massymoroboshi OTG is also very good, I think its fast too.
I have used USB type c drive and it just asks to allow
For computer make sure 1 drivers are installed an 2 select media device from dialogue box the phone opens when you connect
ok thanks .. I have tried with an adapter micro-USB / USB-type-C + OTG cable, and is not detected by the phone. The PC connection is ok, I'll try to buy an original OTG cable

Hi there!
I Think I've got full information on the OTG matter now after googling and testing stuff.
tldr; Get a USB (3.0?) Type C OTG Adapter, it will work.
Longer version:
After getting my USB C to micro usb adapter I tried getting my USB Sticks to work, no luck, not even blinking so I guess not even power get to those things like this. Then I started googling to find out that the same issues were already persistent with older LeTv phones.
Then I went out to buy a USB C 3.0 OTG Adapter (cost me ~7 bucks in Saturn in Germany, will be cheaper to have online for sure), got my sticks to work and even my 2,5" External HDD without any hiccups. ROM I'm on is 14S, not on the newest update.
I will attach a pic of my adapter so at least you know of one that is confirmed to work.

Jeah I also got it working. Bought a type c Adapter on Amazon for 3€. Pretty stable for stick and 2,5"drive (drives first startup is Pretty long, about a minute) . But there is currently no support for game Controllers via otg neither via Bluetooth
Successfully connected and paired the PS4-Controller via SixaxisPairTool on my Le Max 2. Now I can finally play games without a problem with my PS4-Pad

HI all,
My device is a LG G5 H831. I'm trying to connect usb devices Dualshock 4 and a Monster Digital overdrive advanced 128 gb drive) to my phone via usb otg. i have tried with 2 separate cables with no luck. This is one of the cables I used https://www.amazon.ca/CableCreation...5&sr=8-3&keywords=micro+usb+to+usb+type+c+otg
The other is a micro to micro cable that came with the phone clip for my DS4 using an anker adapter to usb c on it. This cable works with both my controller and my 128gb drive using my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8 inch tablet with zero issue, however my g5 will not even recognize something is plugged in.
Ive tried searching with no luck, and ive tried 6 OTG diagnostic apps and nothing detects any devices. I can still charge my phone via the usb port and connect it to a computer to transfer files.
I also keep getting USB "power supply" notifications when nothing is plugged in to my usb port on my g5. do you think these issues could be related?
I have a T-Mobile LG V30 running on software H93220k, and I notice that when I plug it into a USB3 port (both desktop and laptop) that it goes in and out of connectivity. However, connect it to a USB2 port and it's all good. I don't have any issues charging it or connecting it to Android Auto. Anyone else experiencing these issues?
What cable are you using? The cable that is included is USB2.0 and my laptops given me a bit of fuss with its usb 3 ports and the original cable
So far it's with any USB C cable I use. I didn't use to have this problem, as I was able to flash Oreo using LG Bridge and backup the phone.
Maybe the port is dirty or something?

The included cable is a bit weird. I rooted mine and I couldn't even get past the 1st step which was using fastboot to unlock the bootloader because when I used the stock cable it wouldn't read the device in fastboot. But it would read it in download or whatever it's called for using LGUP from the same USB port. The laptop I had only had USB 3 ports but I did try it on my brothers MacBook which only has USB 2 and it was the same result. As soon as I used one of my other cheap amazon cables it worked flawlessly lol.
