Best audio setup on s5! [all variants] - Galaxy S 5 Themes and Apps

I am not responsible for damage caused by my guide
I've searched for years for the best setup to listen to music.
I'd love to share my little work with you, I hope you enjoy it! :highfive:
1) You need root or a custom rom pre rooted and busybox. (search on forum )
2) You need a custom recovery. (I use twrp but other recoveries should work as well!)
3) You need Viper4Android. (V4A.)
To install V4A download the apk from the official site http://vipersaudio.com/blog/?page_id=48
4) Open V4A give superuser permissions and install the drivers. (The app will show a popup, press install and DON'T reboot yet.)
5) Now tap on 3 dots icon and select "Save Effect Profile", now set a random name and press "Ok".
6) Download all 3 files from this link, flash it in recovery and reboot.
https://mega.nz/#F!lJBhwKJb!Ua88kDtxeWlZYz0MEssRDg
7) Download the "My work" file in attachments, unzip it in your phone's internal storage and replace the existing folder.
8) Open V4A, tap on 3 dots icon, first select "UI SETTING", tap on expert and after tap on "Load Effect Profile" and select the "My work" profile.
I use apple EarPods (iP5 bundle), if you don't use these earpones uncheck the option under "Viper-DDC" or select your headphones model if is in the list
If you can't read exact value on the "Fire Equalizer" (in the screenshot) use these instructions:
31=0
62=0
125=0
250=0
500=0
1K= -7.8
2K= -3.8
4K= -3.6
8K= -3.7
16K= -3.8
OPTIONAL! WARNING: THIS MAY DAMAGE YOUR HEADPHONES AND/OR YOUR HEARING.
Whit these steps we are going to edit a default string of the system, so make a backup of this file!
1) Using an advanced file manager like "root browser" navigate to /system/etc (if you are using nougat/oreo/pie this file is in /system/vendor/etc)
2) Open the file called mixer_paths.xml
3) Look for the string <path name= "headset"> under the section <!-- Play Scenario -->.
4) set this value to these strings. (these strings are responsible about the "effective" power that the phone can give over 3.5mm accessories, If you set a lower value you will get less power and so on.)
<ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value= "88" />
<ctl name="RX2 Digital Volume" value= "88" />
5) Save the file then reboot your device.
I've uploaded a screeshot in the attachments files with my configuration, the same as in "My work" file, check if all options match!

Lol accidental click on my phone exchange didn't mean to post sorry.

sorry, this need custom kernel? thx

Nope just root v4a should be able to install on stock ....as long as it's rooted with busy box but I would install v4a and test first before you install the mods....especially the one where you modify the volume system manually, because it is loud and if you have a good pair of earphones the "my settings" file won't sound all that great either.

It modifies the volume settings per device, you can change the volume on any accessory you connect to the device is Bluetooth headphones etc.
It is an unsafe way BTW as it increasing too much can ruin your headphones and don't increase the preamp in v4a if you do try it.

How do you add audio to boot animation (AOPK 7.3)

Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!
(do I need to convert the mp3 to an OGG file?)
I'm pretty sure it takes an mp3 file? Just put your mp3 file at /system/media/ and name it "boot_audio.mp3"
The instructions are repeated under Rom Control > General UI (they're greyed out under "disable call volume")
Ahhhhh I made a folder boot_audio.mp3, lol. Now the only system/media folder I have is in the ROM zip itself. Is that the one I put it in and reflash?

or just put the file itself into that folder in the phone. adb, root explorer, or any other root access file explorer.

Well I thought I had it but when I was checking my failed work I noticed that my" boot_audio.mp3" is now a " boot_audio.mp3.ogg". I used Ghost Commander to move the file.
Just to clarify it isn't or is the system/media from the ROMs zip itself?
Thanks again, this battle is now a personal challenge, lol.
Ok, this is what you do.
1. Find an mp3 file you like (MP3 file, not an Ogg Vorbis file)
2. Name it "boot_audio.mp3" (case-sensitive)
3. Copy it into /system/media/ on your actual phone (NOT in the ROM zip unless you want to have to reflash your zip)
4. Change the permissions of the file to rw-r--r--.
5. Go to Settings > ROM Control > General UI and make sure that "Disable Boot Audio" is UNCHECKED
6. Reboot.
Thanks for the total walk through. Got it working this morning!

marked in red is only in AOKP. So unless you know that the user is running AOKP, this is unnecessary
Just an FYI post.
Is there a way to increase the volume of the boot_audio.mp3? Mine is playing ridiculously low for some reason.

I think the boot sound volume fix is already been applyed,the best fix is in the build prop: persist.sys.boot_volume=100. that's the loudest i, think it can get until the AOKPs find a way to increase it some other way. But as far as my understanding of this its a temporary hit and miss kinda deal. I maybe wrong here,if I am I'm sorry for the missleading post and will remove and or edit with correct info...(if needed but I think I'm right...lol..lol )

Not on the phone. You would have to load that mp3 into an audio editing program on a computer and increase the volume of the file itself.
HI, I'm also looking into increasing my boot audio volume I took a look at the build prop. But I can't find this line (persist.sys.boot_volume=100) anywhere do I just edit the file and write it into there? I'm running AOKP 7.3 also. PS I have used sound forge and Increased my Volume 1000% I only here a little Difference. Sorry If this Isn't the right place to ask this.

[How To] Add More Apps in Ultra Power Saving Mode (UPSM)

UPSM is good way to save some battery when needed, but only a very limited apps we can use under UPSM. With root access, we can add more apps support in UPSM.
Well, the whole idea of UPSM is to save battery, why on earth we want to add more apps to drain the battery? Because we can :victory:
For the start, our mod will add a few applications so you can test it out before customizing your own application list.
Apps added in our mod:
1) Camera
2) Gallery
3) Torch (included AOSP torch.apk for this feature)
4) Chrome
5) Hangout
Instruction to add more apps to UPSM
1) Download the UPSM_Add_More_Apps.zip from : http://electron-team.com/ADDONS/other/
2) Put zip file in sd card.
3) Boot in recovery and clear cache partition
4) Flash the zip file and reboot your phone
5) Boot into UPSM to test the added applications
How to add your own apps?
6) Go to system/csc and open up allowed_apps_upsm.xml with text editor
7) Add your desired applications. You need to know the application Package Name and the Main Class Name. Check the app's Android.Manifest.xml to find out.
8) Then go to phone data/data/com.sec.android.emergencylauncher/databases/ and delete EmergencyLauncherUPSM.db
9) Reboot your phone.
10) Done.
Note: Music app doesn't work in UPSM because some background services has been turn off.
Wish to have Xposed module or app to easily add more app to UPSM? Me too. Let's hope somebody could make one in future.:fingers-crossed:

I don't have in com.android.sec.emergencylauncher this file.......db And upsm manager don't work on omega 7.1 why ?
Obviously if you run more apps, you'll use some more power when you're using those new apps in power save mode. But will adding more to the menu use any more power while you're not using these?
What I'm really trying to establish is if there's any negative point to adding more apps in power save mode.

Hey mate, I think I came across something today that may answer your question.
After adding settings with UPSM manager, I went into "manage apps" and discovered that whilst in this mode, all apps are marked as "disabled" except for those that work in upsm.
Based on this observation, it seems like UPSM actually disables all apps (and by consequence their background services) to save battery, not just hiding them.
So to answer your question, I'd guess that adding more apps will not in itself cause battery drain, unless the apps have battery/ram consuming background services. Therefore my approach is to enable as few apps as I need (whatsapp, music etc), whilst leaving off apps like facebook which has notifications etc.
Hope that helps you or someone
Work with NE5?
Does this work with NE5? I can't seem to get it to work. I am stock rooted without tripping KNOX.
I don't have either of the mentioned files:
system/csc/allowed_apps_upsm.xml
data/data/com.sec.android.emergencylauncher/databases/EmergencyLauncherUPSM.db
I don't even have the data/data/com.sec.android.emergencylauncher/databases directory.
Tried using the app and that adds the system/csc/allowed_apps_upsm.xml file but it doesn't affect the available applications list in UPM mode.
link doesn't work anymore (404). can somebody upload xml file I don't have it on my S5 . Will it work on lollipop?

[GUIDE] [ROOT] Installing Viper4Android

OK everyone, there seems to be mass confusion on what to do to get Viper4Android running, this guide should help clear that confusion.
DO NOT USE THESE FILES UNLESS YOU HAVE A NEXUS 6P. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE ISSUES BECAUSE THEY USE FILES DESIGNED FOR OTHER PHONES.
Firstly: Are you running normal root or systemless root?
If you are running systemless root I suggest you switch over to normal root to get things working. So far, systemless root has been a roadblock for some people and Viper4Android starts acting up with systemless root installed.
Secondly: Have you flashed any of the billion V4A recovery flashable zips?
If yes, restore your system partition as those have a billion and one differently modified files that will probably screw over how your phone functions.
Thirdly: Do you have enough room in the /system and /vendor partitions?
Install the Busybox binaries (linked below) and open a terminal (using your favorite terminal app, or Terminal Emulator) and run
Code:
df
and make sure that you have enough room for the files.
If your /system partition is full, try deleting common apps like Chrome or Drive and install them from the Play Store as user apps instead.
If your /vendor partition is full, there isn't much to fix other than if you installed overlays for Layers, try uninstalling one (some overlays can go up to 400KB, like ones for Chrome). However, it may seem that you don't need to worry about the /vendor partition, more on that below.
OK, now it is time to continue.
If you don't want to follow this guide, then you can use Lollviper's recovery flashable zip, as it works just fine. Use the standard zip, and not the surround zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/discussion-viper4android-t2543796
Choose your favorite v2.3.4.0 version of V4A and install it to /system/priv-app/. Just create a folder with the same name as the APK, give it the same permissions as the other folders, and drop the APK in it making sure to also give it the permissions that the other APKs get. If you encounter issues with a customized version of V4A, I suggest you use the standard version. So far, Lolliviper seems to work.
Make sure to install BusyBox, I recommend this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
If the files linked below can't be downloaded, use the zip file at the bottom of this post and continue following the guide.
Now, download this file (49_viper4android.sh) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/rcp77ul41m...ndroid.sh?dl=0
And create a folder called su.d in /system/. The path should be /system/su.d/, and then give it permissions 0700 with root:root, and drop the script into the folder with permission 0755 with root:root. This script will allow V4A access to mediaserver, so it can see audio to do it's magic. You can make sure that the script worked on boot by checking /data/v4a_script.txt for if it exists, or, was modified recently to correlate with you booting your phone.
Now do the same for this file (audio_effects.conf) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/57y44o74dk...ects.conf?dl=0
And drop the file in /system/etc/ AND in /system/vendor/etc/ (alternatively you can go to /vendor/etc/ as it's actually the same folder). Both of the files should have permissions 0644 with root being the owner and group. This modified file will allow V4A to be used as an equalizer and allow it to do magic in your audio. Quick note, if V4A keeps asking to install the driver, then delete the audio_effects.conf in /system/vendor/etc/ and don't worry about it.
Now the file which will allow V4A to work system-wide, like in YouTube (audio_policy.conf) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/yi8u3j91z3...licy.conf?dl=0
And drop it in /system/etc/ and give it permissions 0644 with root being owner and group, and you are good to go. This modified file removes the "deep_buffer" module that made it so apps that don't hook into Viper4Android (apps that aren't music players) wouldn't have their audio processed. Some of the flashable zips included modified files, but usually only for the Nexus 5.
Now disable or delete the app MusicFX:
This is necessary as Google Play Music will use MusicFX over Viper4Android if the app isn't disabled.
That should be it, you can now continue with your installation of Viper4Android and it should work.
Issues:
Viper4Android still doesn't work!

Make sure you did the proper steps for the audio_policy.conf file.
worked like a charm. Thanks mate!!!
Why do you guys need this? Audio reproduction is excellent and this will only make it sound worse. The only way to improve the sound would be better headphones and/or amp.
Thanks @Namelesswonder for the help .. I have not used your steps might use them based on other users findings and plus these steps will have to redone upon every ROM flash..
I believe all this could be done with a flashable zip , I know we had flashable zips for Nexus5.
@AndrasLOHF I see you have Nexus6P now , will you be able to help us out
Thanks

I haven't rooted or anything yet. From my experience on all the dev previews I would think the Lolliviper zips would still install fine just as they used to. Just don't use the Surround Sound zip.
Thank you! Works great on Nexus 6p. Can't live without the Viper.

You must be unaware the audio sound is completely subjective.

Yeah, I just checked it and Lolliviper flashable does work just fine, I'll put it up in the post. My intent for this post was to just outline how to install it without using flashable zips as people were using the wrong ones and having troubles.

You misread what I said. If you like crappy sound, you like crappy sound, nothing can be done about that. Running audio thru any software filter will degrade the quality, period.
I flashed the lolliviper zip, but viper4android keeps asking me to install drivers (even after install and reboot).
Edit: I'll re-flash and wipe dalvik/cache and try again.
Edit 2: Yup, still having the same issue. It also takes awhile for the driver install to happen too (even though it doesn't actually work).

OK then, try using my way instead. Weird, because flashing the zip worked for me. Do you have systemless root? Try renaming the audio_effects.conf in /vendor/etc/, checking the permissions on audio_effects.conf and audio_policy.conf in /system/etc/, and checking that the 50viper.sh file in /system/su.d/ at least has permissions 0755.

I don't have systemless root, but I'll look into the permissions.
Edit: All my permissions look fine. I'll try and tinker around some more. Still not sure why the driver isn't installing.
You probably need more space in the system partition. Delete an app and reinstall from there play store.

Hi guys,
How does this improve audio quality from the speakers? Coming from Boomsound the speakers on the 6P seem to lack any kind of bass. Could viper help in that department?

Because you can tune the way the speakers sound to your liking. It makes the phones speaker and any headphones sound much better than they normally do.

Which mod did u flash the first one or the second one ?
If u still have root. Then install ES file explorer from playstore and go to this path given below:-
/system/etc
From there send me the 'mixer paths.xml' (only if its there then send)
Also 'audio effects.conf'
So that I can see if any changes are there. Just dont do anything else in those folder just copy it to sd card and then send me.
Thanks

I saw both 1 and 2 of that mod. In second one which one did u use the loud or normal.
And when I checked them i saw a lot of changes happened in your phone of audio files, more than 13 file edited and some new files.
I just edited one of your file. Try replacing it with the one I uploaded
1. Open es file explorer
2 go to left top and tap on settings
3. Scroll down till the tab 'tools'
4. In tools tap the 'Root Explorer'
5. Give permission with superuser ( it wont come if u already have given permission). After giving permission copy the file i gave and paste it in the path below.
6. Go to the path /system/etc
7. Paste the file I uploaded and 'overwrite' the file.
8. Keep holding on that file untill tick mark appears on it(which you pasted just now)
9. Go to properties of that file. ( can be on top right)
10. Tap on change permission
11. Tick all in the first column, second column only the first one should be ticked.
12. Tap OK
13. Exit everything and restart your phone.
14. Test your audio with headsets and without them.

If still not fixed then I will give Dolby Atmos. Only way I know. It worksperfect. And I am asking are you using any other dolby. I just saw it it the file u gave.
Anyway good luck to you

First make sure to take backup.
Paste the file in the same path like i uploaded. Eg:- 'audioeffects.conf' i have pasted in 'etc'. So paste in the same folder of yours. Also change the permission of every thing like i told you before. Otherwise any damage can happen.
First column all,second column only first one to be ticked- permission
Permission for the folders you create - first column all, second column only first, third column all.
If the apps in your path /system/app are pasted in each folder then make folder for the apps you are pasting. Eg:- the app 'As' in the folder named 'As'
Reboot after process.
