There's is a separate post in the guides section. Which explains how to. This is for the snapdragon/pro variant. I can't say for your version of miui yes or no. But there's a post just about that. So that would be the place to ask
Found here

Wow thanks, and this camera have beautify mode!
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using XDA Labs
Good sharing, but i can't use manual setting. I've enabled camera 2 api, Manual camera, proshot and open camera works flawlessy, but with this i can't set my exposure time and iso. When i try to change vales, black screen, does'nt FC, but camera turns to black images. So black photo. Possible that have lost libraries?

I notice the manual iso doesn't allow for full control. It works fine with shutter speed set to manual and manual iso. But when set to auto shutter speed. Iso adjustment doesn't go high enough. Leaving u with a very dark screen unless u use manual on both iso and shutter
Here's a photo moving my hand fast with .5s shutter speed and 100 iso. The values on manual iso/shutter need adjusting for this device but when both set to manual works great. I'm not a software writer so I can't. I could try but is that safe haha wonder if @TheStrix would wanna use this on the official cm13 build. Few adjustments and its a perfect stock camera. With the camera2 api functions

I just flashed the v7 of this camera and as for now it seems to be a much better camera apk than the snapdragon apk.
I like how many features it has, especially the EIS.
The only bug I've found is that if I enable the "Power button as a shutter" then I have FC all the time (have to wipe it's data then).
Zooming isn't good with this camera as objects become way-to pixelated when zoomed in. Tried to do this same thing with cyanogenmod's default camera and the object was much more clearer and less pix-elated. Plus the use power button as shutter button makes the app crash all the time.
Edit - While focus works nice in both front and back camera, it doesn't show the focus ring in front camera.

Well, there's no focus mechanism in the camera, so what kind of focus are you expecting? The face detection?
---------------
I just did some low light tests.
Tbh, there's no difference in the noise amount. Both pictures look ****ty + the pictures from this camera are all white, I mean like there's almost no color in the pictures. The stock camera wins in the color reproduction in those conditions easily.

Im taking about touch to focus. It doesn't have touch to focus when using front camera, whereas cyanogenmod's default camera has. don't know about miui default camera.
It takes bright pictures in low light, but It's just too white in normal condition!
Plus, stock camera has better details. Slightly better.
One more thing, there is no 120fps slowmotion for HD resolution. and I don't know if 60fps FHD works or not.
Worse than Snap Camera included in latest CM13 build (balika). The chroma noise reduction is worst...
v22 works on miui. will be glad if you can upload latest updates here
Well this is like dream come true. For video shooting, this is the best camera app for redmi note 3 atleast. It has features like video stablisation, h.265 encoding and the best of all, it is able to save the video to sd card. (I previously tried an apk of camera next from apkmirror and it was not able to dave on sd card) . And for still shotss also, it has denoise feature, which I missed back then in camera next. Thank you so much. Now there is no need to go back to miui any more. You made my day.
Hi, new user here. I have finally managed to unlock and install a custom ROM (RR) on my Redmi Note 4. I'm not satisfied with the quality and features in the default camera app. Can you guys get me updated on what's the best camera app for this phone right now. I'd like to have manual controls (at least manual focus) and good HDR.
I have tried the ported Google Camera but unfortunately it doesn't have manual focus and frame rate seems to be locked at 60fps.

AFAIK Google Camera does not have manual focus. It only has tap to focus.
If you're point n shot guy then Google Camera Mod with HDR+ is the best
if you like to play with focus, iso, shutter, etc then stock Camera Mod is quite good, you can also try One plus camera and of course open camera and freedcam.

Can confirm that the Arnova8G2 based mods are working on my new Nokia 7 plus.
Yesterday a new version (GoogleCamera-Pixel3Mod) was released, with some UI and speed improvements (at higher HDR+ parameter) I noted.
XDA link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76235335&postcount=3541
The Nokia camera app doesn't come even close to the results of the gcam mods.
I noticed often a very high exposure in daylight and much more noisier in low light (agressive ISO ramp up) settings.

Like the Nokia Camera I can only choose between different resolutions of 4K, 1080p, 720p but not the framerate.
I didn't find any setting in the dev options either. Maybe there is a tweak within the gcam mod I'm not aware of, to change the framerate (chipset should support this) but the testvideo I recorded is at 30FPS.

@RolloBollo, Would you mind if you could make some shots at night or in evening, so that we can clearly see the differences between the GCam and Nokia Camera Pro at low light condition?
Is there any reason to believe that the Pixel camera app apk would also bring 4k video stabilization to the table on the Nokia 7 plus in a usefull way? This phones seems to tick every box except that one...
I`ve seen a video of stabilization via the pixel app done on the Xiaomi A1, but the results were merely meh. The nokia however has a more capable snapdragon 660.

Can do, first set is 30min before, 2nd set 25 min after and 3rd set 40min after sunset with slight light from apartment above.
All shots were made free hand in auto mode with HDR forced.
The nokia cam tends to be more inconsistent over follow up shots, the best out of 3 shots were choosen.
Lighting to the real thing is always closest on gcam, but both are overexposing in low light settings, bringing in more light than in reality was.
Can we directly install gcam APK in Nokia 7 plus or we have to enable camera2api to get access of it if so how to enable camera2api

I got the same error using the link directly from Google Drive. I downloaded the apk via browser and I installed it just fine.
The Pixel2mod and the Pixel3mod version gave me strange color artefacts in every picture(but not in de live viewfinder). The previous version, named GCam, works however just fine.
[MOD][TESTING] Camera Sensor Fix and Google Camera
Please test, share issues, questions and offer help!
What does this mod do?
It replaces the libmmcamera_imx318*.so and libmmcamera_imx268*.so files inside /system/vendor/lib/ with ones I edited.
It also adds a missing reference to libadsprpc.so in /system/etc/public.libraries.txt on custom firmwares.
WarningFrom my experience this mod can't really break anything. At most you'll have a non working camera. In this situation you need to either flash your ROM again or restore these files from a backup.
If you're on MIUI use the installer that doesn't change your public.libraries.txt file! Otherwise your device won't boot.
What does it fix?
It fixes a sensor and active array size mismatch issue in our devices. It makes a lot of google camera mods work (to some degree).
It seems to have also fixed the cropping bug everyone has been complaining about. Since the array size mismatch appears to be cropping the resolution down to the next working one.
Shut up already, I just want to take some great looking photos!
Go ahead and flash one of these zip files:
CFW: https://mega.nz/#!sfAERYxL!WdJO3u9sFwddB22echsp0-2AYsW1nVIynROo3rVjeqQ [v5] [14-05-2018]
MIUI: https://mega.nz/#!UexHDThY!O2CUQ1GVqG9CSAqfgMRXthKVq4vgPPq6-wbKflAGbio
Install the following gcam mod:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GCam_5.1.018_by_SerJo87_1.6RC2_test4c.apk
What's working:
HDR+ and HDR enchanced (Back and Front)
Portrait Mode (Back and Front)
Zero Shutter Lag
Motion Photos
Video Recording
Slow Motion (120 and 240 fps)
What's Not Working:
Nothing!
What isn't working very well:
Light flickering in 240fps slowmo.
Low exposure in Lens Blur. (The current fix is to set the Lens Blur resolution to the default 5MP)
Low exposure in Panorama.
Cropped 4k Recording (Hardware enabled EIS. Doesn't seem to be a bug.)
Missing toggle between HDR modes on the back camera (It takes photos with HDR+)
Recommendations
If you don't mind losing Motion Photos on the Back Camera turn on the Use Hexagon DSP option for slightly better performance and stability
Change the HDR+ parameters to Pixel 2017 stable.
Turn on Portrait ZSL mode
Change Base model inside Tuning back cam to Nexus 6P. (More detailed photos plus better and faster autofocus)
SerJo87 Google Camera's default tuning settings are tweaked for another smartphone's camera sensor. As a personal recommendation go into Tuning back cam and disable the Tuning master switch for it to use the default Base Model values. I've spent hours tweaking and have found the default Nexus 6P values to be the best ones.
Change the Lens blur megapixels to 5MP. (Fixes the low exposure issue)
Compatibility
Personally tested and fully working on the latest AospExtended.
Reported semi-working on the latest unofficial Resurrection Remix.
Reported working on the latest Lineage 15.1.
Reported working on crDroid.
Reported working in MIUI.
This mod is not needed on the latest Cardinal-AOSP. Psy_Man has included this fix.
Google Camera Mod Repository
Go grab a bunch of other google camera mods if you're feeling adventurous and hope to find a more compatible one.
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
I need testers, helpers, anything and everything is welcome!
Why I did it
Coming from a Redmi Note 4X, I was pretty letdown by the lack of a working google camera mod for my new Mi Note 2. I upgraded my phone in almost every aspect except I was taking far inferior quality photos. This drove me to find out what was going on with our device.
Getting technical
Going through several gcam mods I noticed a pattern. This error to be exact:
E/QCamera (510): <MCI><ERROR> update: 102: invalid input: active_array [5344, 4016], sensor size [5488, 4112]
For some reason, the active array size is smaller than the sensor size. Which cannot happen. This is what I fixed in the libmmcamera_imx318_primax.so file.
If you want a detailed explanation of what I changed in the file go over here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-2/development/fix-mi-note-2-camera-blobs-t3794443
The missing reference to libadsprpc.so prevents the google camera (and any other non system app) from accessing the Snapdragon 821's hexagon DSP. The reference is needed for apps to offload processing to the DSP and the google camera tries to use it for HDR background processing. It should make the app and the phone a lot more stable and responsive even when taking consecutive shots.
Changelog
[v3] In version 3 I started replacing both libmmcamera_imx318.so and libmmcamera_imx318_semco.so as well, with the same fixes. I'm assuming these files are for the different possible CMOS our phones can have (sony, semco or primax).
[v4] In Version 4 I also replace libmmcamera_imx268.so and libmmcamera_imx268_sunny.so. These Front Camera files were also fixed and no longer crash the app when switching to and from Portrait mode.
Very interesting! I'm flashing it in a moment!
Thank you for your work!
not booting up after install on miui 9.5.1.0
Keep up man. Wonderful job!
Very good progress!
I'm running the latest RR. Flashed and booted up no problem.
Just having issues with Urkill's camera:
It stops working when switching from mode to mode (modes work correctly)
Video on the back camera is wayyyy zoomed it. I think "Double stabilisation" is on. Note 2 is EIS by default, AFAIK, then, paired with the app's stabilization, it might be cropping out a lot of video real-estate. But this is just a guess.
Thanks for your work! Very happy with the progress!

Hmm maybe miui's public.libraries file has libs that are missing from the file I'm flashing. I'll confirm that tonight.
I also forgot to mount /vendor in my installer script and that may have caused some issues. I'll also upload a fixed version later tonight.
Sorry for any headaches.

Yeah. UriKill's mod is optimized for the redmi note 4. But is still the most stable of the bunch. I've noticed things like switching to the front camera and then switching to portrait mode will crash the camera but doing it the other way around works.
The note 2 does have built in image EIS and UriKill's mod enables Google camera's stabilization on 1080p. But shouldn't be doing it in 4k and yet the image gets cropped a lot more in 4k. I need to figure out what's going on.
New version of the script is up. I forgot to mount /vendor, so it wasn't really working unless you had manually mounted /vendor before flashing it.
Give it a try again if it didn't work last time.

Editing the /system partition makes miui roms unbootable unless you disable both dm-verify and forced encryption.

If you had another google camera mod installed usually just uninstalling doesn't delete all data. And some mods have the camera.enable_pd and camera.enable_pd_blur flags turned on in Developer Settings.
These need be to off. Check if that's the issue.
Front camera Portrait Mode also needs the camera.gouda.front flag to be on.

Something just crossed my mind. Did you flash LazyFlasher on your miui rom?
Editing the /system partition makes miui roms unbootable unless you disable both dm-verify and forced encryption.

So can we flash it on miuipro 9.5.1.0 or will it bootloop?

It shouldn't bootloop. I don't think miuipro enforces dm-verifiy. And my mod doesn't change any important system files.
If it does bootloop, try installing LazyFlasher and see if that fixes it.
Either way, put the miuipro, kernel and magisk installation files in your internal storage before testing.
If you run into a bootloop, just reflash those 3 files, in the above order, and everything will be back as it was.
Testing is really appreciated! Thank you!

Flash the first zipfile
Hopefully.
Tested on: RR ROM (not GSI) from https://build.lolios.ml/sirius/
GCam version: Arnova's Advanced 1.5 Download
Config xml file: see attachments Alternative Download
Disclaimer
If you're not using my same setup I can't guarantee the same results, though I think this should apply, for the most part, no matter the ROM you're using. If you're using a GSI I think it should work the same as long as you have flashed the gcam fix zip (or Magisk module).
Introduction
I chose Arnova's mod because it's the most customizable out there. To get it working straight out of the box:
Install GCam
Create directory /sdcard/GCam/Configs if it doesn't exist
Move xml config file to the directory
Long press on the GCam icon and select "Take a video"
Double-tap on empty space below shutter
Choose the xml file from the menu and click restore
Step 4 is necessary because trying to lauch with the defaults options results in a crash, but not in video mode. We're using this as workaround to import the settings in order to fix the crash and configure the camera.
I'll now describe every setting that I chose to edit so that you can understand why I set it up the way it is. Most of these settings are based on personal preference so feel free to experiment for yourself.
Settings
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - RAW10 in front
Enabled.
Fixes the camera crash on app launch.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Buffer Fix
Enabled.
Fixes viewfinder lag. Doesn't fix it for Night Sight. Also, I remember this wasn't needed when using GSI + gcam fix zip so if you're using a GSI maybe try disabling this and see how it goes.
Autoexposure correction
1/10 sec.
This setting is very important. It controls the balance between noise and blurriness / time it takes to shoot a frame.
Basically, here's what this does. When you take a picture there are a few factors that influence how bright the picture will be. These factors are width of the objective, time the camera spends taking the picture (also known as shutter speed) and the sensor sensitivity (also known as ISO). Unlike regular cameras, the width of the objective is fixed (I believe) so on our phone we're limited to ISO and shutter speed. The longer the shutter speed, the more time the sensor is exposed to light, the brighter the picture. If you're not steady though, longer shutter speeds will result in blurry photos. Increasing ISO, on the other hand, will allow you to keep shutter speed low and have sharp images, but will significantly increase the amount of noise in the picture.
What this setting does is set a limit to how high the shutter speed can get before it will resort to increasing ISO if it needs to. The default settings of Off gave pretty bad results for me - picking 1/50 and 2000+ ISO where 1/10 and 300 ISO did perfectly fine - though feel free to experiment for yourself. Keep in mind the actual time to take the pic will be at most this setting times the HDR+ parameters setting. So if you have the default setting of 9 for HDR+ and 1/10 like I do it will take at most 0.9s to take a picture.
Correction NightSight
1 sec.
Same as Autoexposure Correction but for Night Sight mode. I set this to a very long time but it's totally personal preference so feel free to tweak this. As you may have guessed, I really dislike noisy pictures...
Pixel 3 AWB
Enabled.
See the GCam ports site relative FAQ.
I found it produces warmer colors. It also seems to only work if you use Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL as models. Feel free to change.
Mod settings - Advanced - Base - Model
Pixel 3 for both cameras.
Tested other models and didn't find any difference except Pixel 3 AWB stopped working except for Pixel 3XL.
Mod settings - Advanced - Noise reduction
Everything disabled.
Trying enabling them but they didn't really seem to work so I left them off.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Using Sabre
Auto.
Sabre FAQ. I left Auto because I have no clue what that's supposed to mean. Tried both On and Off and they worked but I couldn't spot a difference. It supposedly makes pictures better though, so set to On if you'd like.
Mod settings - Advanced - Libs
Stock by Google.
I just left the default because I tried the other ones and found no difference. Try them for yourself if you feel like it.
Mod settings - Advanced - Enable Auto exposure
Disabled.
This is weird one, most of the times it crashed the app right after shooting (didn't store the pics), other times it worked but I saw no difference. Don't think we're missing out on anything.
Photo - Advanced - "Motion" function
Disabled.
Enabling crashes the app, it might work with different models settings / configs (in Mod settings - Advanced - Base) but I didn't bother because I don't really care for it. If you somehow get it to work, please report back. Thanks!
Photo - Advanced - Optical Stabilization (OIS)
Disabled.
MI 8 SE doesn't have OIS. Not much to say.
Video - Advanced - Init SlowMo with
120 FPS.
Setting this to 120 FPS instead of the default 240 FPS allows to use both 1/4 and 1/8 speed for slow motion.
By the way, I believe that while most of this guide should also apply to GSIs, iirc slow-mo is broken on GSI and there's not much you can do about it. Sorry.
I hope to have cleared up the confusion about GCam, I surely was very confused when I first started looking into it and was quite overblown with all the settings.
Let me know if you know about anything that could be added to the guide.
Thank you!
I can't do the "Long press on the GCam icon and select "Take a video" in MIUI

True, it's a limitation of the default MIUI launcher. You can install a third party launcher temporarily and use that. To my knowledge there's no other way around it, unfortunately.
Thanks for this thread. There is something wrong about xml file. I am not able to download it via three different browsers. Could you please upload it anywhere else?

OMG :victory: This is best GCam i've ever used.
Photo quality(lowest noise) and colors are really changed. Thanks for your hard work

Glad to hear that! The reduced noise is just the result of the shutter speed setting, I'm still very doubtful about setting 1/10 as limit, sometimes I feel like it's way too long... Especially because it seems like once you've set it it becomes super aggressive in picking it instead of a more sensible combination like 300 ISO - 1/50 shutter speed.

Better quality photos are more important than waiting(shutter speed) in my opinion. Colors are sharp and contrast is higher than standart gcam. These settings give really good results. Sharp and clean photos :good:
The app crashes every time I take photos with hdr+ off. And in BSG v2e the shutter speed of hdr+ is so much faster than hdr+ enhanced which is useful if I want to take photos in crowded places

True, thanks for the report. I'll try and see if I can find a workaround. Shutter speed gets faster if you set Autoexposure correction to off, but ISO gets a lot higher as a result and produces very noisy pics.

And also, I hope we can use the 20MP front camera. The 5MP limit looks pretty bad.

That looks like it's a ROM issue since even the stock camera app shoots at 5MP

Yeah, as far as I know it's not fixable... it only worked after flashing the GCam fix zip but that seems to be causing issues in MIUI so I don't know.
Thx for share ur experience, but i hv issue slow capture for front camera, how fix it ?
Hi guys try bsg's gcam mi9se v0d, it's working for mi8se..
