So I had my Galaxy S5 from T-Mobile for a couple of months and it has been working great, especially after the recent Marshmallow update. But as of late, my phone would crash and keep restarting until it starts up normally again. Over time, it would get progressively worse and it would take longer to boot up over the course of a couple of days, and when it does finally manage to boot up and work, pressing the power button would crash the phone and throw it back into a boot loop. I left the phone alone for a couple of days and came back to it to try to boot it up again, and it worked well! It booted up first try without any kind of restarts and the power button worked a couple of times until... it failed again when I pressed the power button and it got stuck in a boot loop again. And after a couple of minutes of being stuck in a boot loop, it would boot, but the screen was black. The LED at the top of the phone and the lights from the capacitive buttons would work and I know the phone is working it's just that the screen is not. I can manage to turn off the phone without the screen by holding the power button and guessing where the "Power Off" button is. And while the phone is in this state, when I press the power button the phone would lock like it's supposed to. I've tried taking out the battery and holding the power button for 2 minutes and letting the phone rest for another 10 minutes but it doesn't seem to really do anything. I've tried rooting it before but failed to, but I don't really think that's the problem. If you guys have any suggestions I would really appreciate it! Using my old Galaxy S3 is kinda annoying, especially since Pokemon Go doesn't support it. Thanks again!
If you guys would like a video of some sort to see what's going on exactly then I'll be glad to make one for you guys.
Did the problem start after you tried to root? What did you use to try and root your phone? What baseband are you on? Do you have stock or a custom recovery?
From past experience, symptoms indicate a stuck power buton. FWIW.

I have no idea what caused this, but I can briefly explain the scenario..
After the .21 update, I found my Prime to be a little lag-gy (you know like when your desktop is on for quite a long time, you try to reboot), so I wanted to turn it off, then turn it on again. To my horror after I turned it off, I could not turn it on again. All I can is have this vibration that's supposed to occur at 3 seconds normally, at 12 seconds of holding down the power button.
After doing some research , others that have similar issues of unable to boot tried holding down the power button for 30 seconds.. 60 seconds.. and multiple times.. I've tried it, but nothing worked.
I tried the cold boot, holding VOL Down plus power button as well. No luck.
Lastly, tried the soft reset button. Tried it holding down with power button and pressing it separately. Still no luck.
I tried it with and without dock. Everything almost the same except when I
'close' the tablet with the dock.. holding the power button does not do anything, but when i 'opened' it, 3 seconds I will get the vibration, but nothing will be shown on the screen. Totally blank.
Anyone can help? I'm going to send for RMA at worse scenerio but I need help asap cause I need to use it later in the day. :/
EDIT: Oops forgot to include something else.
That was 3 days ago, I managed to get it working 2 nights ago, but after I went to sleep, and woke up. Heck, its off again. I have no idea how I got it working. All i know was, I brought it out, didn't use it, about after 8 hours I reach home, I sat on my chair thinking of sending it for repair and tried my last attempt to on it, it loaded perfectly. Then... this happened...
After I connected my tablet to the computer and try to turn it on, Windows detect APX. But the driver installation. Wonder if this information would be useful.
Again new information don't know whether this is useful or not, my volume up button was faulty about a week ago. Sometimes my volume just automatically goes up on its own, probably the button is spoilt that its permanently or most of the time held down. And after some Google-ing, volume up and power on apparently causes the tablet to go in this APX mode..
My Samsung Stratosphere turned itself off sometime and now is rebooting to the Samsung logo, and then turning back off, and rebooting (a couple times earlier it booted to the main android menu, but turned back off immediately afterwards) and when I plugged it into the charger it acts like it's charging and then turns off and acts like it's charging and over and over again, even when the battery indicates that it's at more than half full.
Does anyone know what's happening? (no custom ROMs or anything, it's all standard btw). I took the battery out and everything and it still does the same thing when I put it back. I tried to do a factory reset, but the recovery mode screen always jumps away when I try to activate it (I press both Vol+ and Vol-, recovery mode screen comes up but goes instantly, then the phone goes into a boot loop again).
Please help, thank you!

Hi, I'd recommend sending the phone into warranty, add the phone isn't rooted, you can't do much.

Had same problem on 3 phones. This is a connection problem within the phone. Disassembly & cleaning contacts often helps for a while, but problem comes back. Bumping the phone on the side or top, often allows it to work properly, for a short while, and so does squeezing it, in certain places. Get a new one, since the problem will re-cur.
I tried to turn the screen off, but it keeps turning back on. I've had this issue for a while and looked it up. Most people said it was a hardware issue, but the thing is...now it will not turn off the screen at all. I know the power button works because I can long press it to get the power menu as well as hold to restart, but not turn off the screen. Also, I can activate the "lock" feature in TWRP as well with the power button. I had this issue on an older rom, so I wiped EVERYTHING and installed revolt, yet I still had this issue and as I was typing this, I got the new issue of it never turning off. I don't know what's causing it. Any ideas? It's been happening for a few days now.
Attempt 2: Now I have the stupid turning off issue. Now, every time I press the power button the opposite happens. It turns on for a second and then turns back off. I'm thinking that this is a hardware issue. Anyone else disagree?
Attempt 3: Back to same issue, turns off and turns right back on in like 2 seconds. Going to call Samsung and see what this is about.
[EDIT]: I should mention, I have the same vibrate issue described in this thread. I'm suspecting a stuck power button. Great. Time to talk AT&T into giving me an early upgrade.
A stuck power button won't allow your phone to boot up completely. So you're probably ok there if you can boot up and type in an app.
You do have an issue though. Something got borked up somewhere. I would try going back to stock completely.
Backup important files, wipe EVERYthing on the phone at least twice. Then using Samsung kies on a PC do an emergency firmware update. Once your update completes perform another factory reset and see how she's working. If you still have a problem then contact Samsung. If no problem, enjoy your phone!
Eh, I tried the wiping everything (internal, not the sd card), but I guess I shall try moving it to stock as well. Do you suggest keeping TWRP or should I install stock kernel, recovery, and do a firmware update? I might also dump my phone in rice to see if maybe some water got in there (doubt it though). Also, I might be screwed if it's otherwise. Been over a year since I bought the note.
Also, are you sure it's not stuck (partially or sometimes maybe)? My phone is constantly rebooting on and off for no reason and sometimes this happens, other times the power button is okay. But when it does reboot, it vibrates a lot. Sometimes it'll just keep vibrating and never reboot like it's turning off and on constantly and I have to press and hold the power button a few times before it starts booting again.
EDIT: I also realize it could be a combination of issues and one of these issues might be a battery one. I do have another battery and I can feel a noticeable bulge so I'll go home, change the roms, battery, and do a firmware update and see how it goes.
Would just like to add that flashing an official firmware through kies did not fix my problem. Furthermore, now I'm getting the invalid sim problem and it keeps asking me to restart. I had this problem before and just recently (a week ago) got a new sim and now it's back. Maybe it's an hardware issue?
Hey all,
I have a Droid DNA that has not been rooted or have anything but stock ROM running on it. Today, I was using Snapchat when suddenly I get the box that pops up when you hold down the power button and then you choose whether to turn it off, restart it, or put it into airplane mode. Then, there's a notification that in 3, 2, 1, your device will be shut off.
After it shuts off, it goes into the infinite bootloop where it doesn't go past the HTC screen and I can't even do anything in the bootloader because it just restarts mid-pressing of the volume buttons.
I think the power button might be stuck, but it feels mechanically fine. I think it's stuck though because without even pressing the power button I could just hold VOLUME DOWN and still get into the bootloader for like 4 seconds.
Is there anything I could do?
Thank you so much in advance.

Take it back to verizon if its not rooted or anything, show them whats going on, they will probably tell you to send it in to be fixed.

I think I'm going to have to. I let it run its course until the battery died and was hoping to resurrect it by charging. However, now its not even charging. There's no orange LED (blinking or constant) to let me know the phone is charging. Damn.
I have a rooted verizon galaxy s4. Today I pressed the power button to put my device to sleep. I noticed it shut off the device. I rebooted my phone and all seemed fine. I took my battery out and put it back in, it automatically tried to boot. After about 3 or four seconds the screen goes black. I need help and can provide more info if needed. Sorry if this is no the right play to post this but I am new to the forums. Thank you for any response. Have a blessed day

Looks like we have the same issue. Just for posterity, what rom were you running, if lollipop, did you try and install the xposed for lollipop? I can't get into download mode, can you? If you can, you should be able to correct this with Odin, search for it in the S4 thread. Either way please report back so we can try and figure out why this happened.
Same symptom I had. If power comes on by itself upon battery insertion and phone shuts down after a few seconds it is caused by a stuck power switch. To fix it repeatedly whack the switch on the corner of a table. You will know it's fixed when the phone doesn't turn on by itself when the battery is inserted. This is a common problem with S4's but was difficult to search for and find the answer.

I had the same issue. Put the battery in and it vibrate once and then shows custom padlock and then shut off. Found the same thing on you tube. The smack trick. However, I did not use a table but a book or something semi hard. Smack the phone several times on the power button side and it will work.

* Note this is not a perm fix. This is a band aid. You will continue to have the issue. But this might allow you to return to stock if needed for warranty claim.
This might be an issue with a faulty power button. I had that issue with one of my s4s. the internal switch wore out and the phone would start to boot and then turn off and reboot. and this would continue until i jiggled the power switch.
Just a thought.
