is this a fact or is it because the phone is so new that nobody is working on it yet? Is there any hope for the future or is it because its a Verizon only phone?
I'm coming from a Droid Razr M running CM12. Other than flashing and updating my XT907, I have not kept up with newer phones. I've been really spoiled with the unlocked bootloader on my old phone.

It's 100% fact as of right now...I have no idea if anyone is even trying to work on cracking this bootloader...
The fact that it's VZW only right now certainly hurts the chances of it ever happening...I'm coming from a Droid Turbo...that phone was unlocked like over a year after release...
I don't believe the Turbo 2 has been unlocked at all...
There is always a chance...but it's slim

I understand people saying it can't but the nosey part of me wants to know what steps were taken or who. I read on Motorola site about unlocking bootloader but it breaks the warranty. I would be interested in seeing how far I could get. Right now I'm still within 2 week period before returning phone. I have Verizon because my employer gets a discount. I'm used to rooting my phone's & VZW is killing my vibe. Lol. I tried the Motorola because my G5 had not had any progress yet with rooting.

- Don't waste your time trying to get an unlock code from Motorola, they won't be giving it to you
- if you're expecting root or a bootloader unlock before you're 2 week return period, you might as well return it now...not gonna happen.
- I'm fairly confident one of the devs will figure it out, but I wouldn't count on it ANY time soon

No I like the Moto but I will probably swap it for the Z Force. I love the cam on my G5 and I need something comparable. I just have more hope that the Moto will see root before my VZW G5. But I could be wrong.

I walked into a VZW corporate store a week or two back, and played around with the Moto Z Droid. I went into Settings --> About Phone and tapped on the Build number enough times to open up the developer settings menu. Under Developer Settings, there's a switch to "Unlock Bootloader". I toggled it from off to on, and the phone seemed happy enough before I left.
I do realize that this toggle under developer settings may mean nothing and may do nothing to actually unlock the bootloader - just relating what I saw.
I did ask the retail guy if it was for real, of course he didn't know, but when I asked him why VZW was so anal about locked bootloaders when they sell Nexus devices - he said that he thought attitudes were finally changing there.

FWIW, I've been messing around with Android phones for a long time, and haven't seen that option before (for example, it's not on my old HTC One when running CM12 or any CM13 variant).

It must be something that some OEM's remove from the menu, or its only included when you're running stock, or very close to stock Android like Moto does...

Moto Z can, this is what Motorola is talking about.
Cant submit links, but on moto site you can unlock moto z.
Found this on moto website, do i understand correctly when unlocked there will be a wipe ?
If unlocked, if you flash it with recovery image it will be locked again ?
No warranty problem than any more ? or perhaps via serialnumber ?

It's a known hardware issue that Verizon is well aware of. It's happened to me twice (on my 3rd Bolt) and they will replace it for free. All you have to do is call 611 and get a rep on the phone. Sucks...I know!

I'm 100% sure. I tried everything (Reflashed Roms, Tried various Keyboards, Unrooted, and still nothing...) the first time it happened to me. You'll notice if you go into landscape mode in the messaging app it'll work fine. The screen has deadspots on it. You have to call them and they will send you another one "next day" air and within that package, besides the "new" phone, they'll be return labels. Just unroot your device factory reset everything and ship it back.
I will call. use my phone for work everyday though and have to have it for work... Can I go to a store instead and get one you think?
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA
You can try, but not sure that they'll come thru for ya. Best bet would be to hang in there until you have a day or two off then call so it doesn't impact your employment. And in the meantime use the phone in landscape mode for what you need it for.
Called customer service and this issue was not in there database. landscape mode isn't much better at all. If I go to store I have to unroot

Guys. I recently exchanged my iPhone 5 for a droid DNA thru craigslist. I am coming to android after almost a year and I was hoping to root and install sense 5.0 roms. So after doing the swap at the verizon store and finally sitting in front of the computer to start the s-off and rooting process I discoverd after an hour of unsuccessful attempts that since I am running software version 2.0.65.xxx I won't be able to unlock or root. I got the phone with that software and from my past experience, just assumed that everything would work out.
Since there is quite of bit of topics and items involving this device, I just wanted to confirm my understanding that there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to root the droid DNA if its running 2.0 version. Correct ?? No downgrading with an earlier RUU possible either. ... correct ?

From what I heard they were stopping asking for beta testers, so that usually means they have enough people testing.
I couldn't wait and just bought another phone. It might be weeks or they might not be able to unlock full functionality.
They had to wait for HTC to release the source which is why its taking so long.

I *think* I remember reading one of the devs mentioning that new things were encrypted on the ota and that is causing some problems getting supercid. Since I read it really late at night when I was drowsy I cannot remember where I read it.

Not 3 days. I am not new to android. I come from the line of OG droid and then droid incredible and then thunderbolt. I've actually written codes for various Roms before and also done quite a bit of theming. I just got to a point where I couldn't devote as much time to developing anymore. I had switched to the iPhone after the thunderbolt and found it refreshing and appealing to my engineering sensibilities. I recently came back to the android world via the droid DNA. Unfortunately it just doesn't click with me anymore. The gigantic screen, the unpolished OS and what a bummer it is to find out that even with a quad core processor, this phone lags and stutters at time. Don't get me wrong. I am not bashing android users. I just saying that the simplicity and refinement of iOS along with the practicality of a handy sized phone , just seems to suit me better.

As far as liking one OS over another, it's personal preference and no one here will hate you for going to Apple. Maybe we'll see you back soon and you can do somethings for the DNA.
Just starting a new forum to see how many people have done this successfully and to gather details. This is a topic that I am forwarding from Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769 General > [GUIDE/TOOL] Unlocking Bootloader & Recovery ; this discussion is cable specific. I have found the LG 910K USB flash cable online for $25.00, and it seems as if this could be our saving grace to unlocking the bootloader as it allows more data to transfer than the standard micro USB when the KDZ is flashed. This could be the key that will open the bootloader's "door". I am eager to hear if anyone has tried this with success, and have already read a post or two to that respect. (I want CM11!!!)
Just bought one
Well I just purchased a cable online. It is coming from the Peoples Republic of China, so it might be a while before I receive it. Cost less than 20$ USD shipping included. Would love to hear if anyon3 else has made this work.

Was the fastboot cable a selective resistance cable? If so, what setting was used? Which KDZ did you attempt to flash?
dumb question, but...
exactly how is a selective resistance USB cable supposed to help unlock the SOFTWARE encrypted bootloader on lgms769's (metro PCs)produced after June(or July) 2013?
my guess is that ppl having troubles unlocking the BL on these devices is more translation and procedural than the actual guides being wrong.
I made a thread about how this fon is kinda like the Motorola droid x with its locked bootloader and how KitKat 4.4.4 was made to work on IT by using safestrap and some other process to,I guess, stop the normal boot process and leaves the fon in a state that allows custom kernals and such to be loaded.
anyway maybe someone can look into this? I'd do so myself but my laptop along with my trusty old droid x got stolen outta my car last week...
assuming a fastboot cable even works with this phone, it wouldnt necessarily unlock it, all a fastboot cable does is kick it into fastboot mode, assuming that we just were having issues getting it into fastboot but still were able to receive the token, maybe it might help in the sense that we could then issue the unlock command.

Just spent another eight hours trying to follow a detailed an extensive Euro_20B flash and unlock procedure. Needless to say, it didn't work.
Thank you Kuma for the awesome locked bootloader ROM. I was able to reflash it after much struggle with a wonky touchscreen ect. Unless someone can show that the variable resistance cable makes a scratch of difference without an octopus box, I do not believe I have the will to try this again.
Is there no hope for this? (06/2013)

No, I don't think there is any Hope for unlocking these encrypted bootloader on the L9's. If this "Cable" method works (which has been rumored for months) you then have to spend the money to purchase a cable and/or an octopusbox. I'd rather invest every single cent into a different phone at this point...
Sorry to hear that you spent 8 hours drudging through the whole unlock process again. I just spent about 8 mins flashing the new Android L developers preview image on my Nexus 5. Lol. Point is I gave up on my L9 months ago and not just because of the encrypted bootloader but, its slow, it lacks features and has terrible internal memory. I couldn't be happier with switching phones.
Yes, kuma82 is a savior and a saint! That's the only way to make it even worth using our L9s.

I don't even want to sell my L9 on Craigslist. I wouldn't want to inflict this phone on anyone else. I DO have a conscience.
It makes for a decent alarm clock, at least.

Man... Now you've gone and made me feel bad because I gave my L9 to my wife... Uhhhh the Guilt!!!! Lol

It's been quite a ride. ...but I've had enough. I'll be checking back from time to time. Even though I have L90, I'll hold on to the L9 as my backup. Bye for now!

Sad to see you move on, but Glad to see you finally got a new Phone! :highfive:
I'm looking to replace my wife's L9. I'm Leary to purchase another LG, but how's the L90?
I was reading in the forum about a company out of Texas that can take your phone back to stock with unlocked bootloader. I even emailed them for answers to a couple of questions that I had and they answered me back with what I needed. I am now ready to send my phone out to be fixed. Now I lost the email and for the life of me can not find that post again. If anybody knows where this imformation is, please post it here for me or give me the link.
Thank you.

I sent my phone in today for the downgrade service. I will either post here or start a new thread when I get my phone back and let you all know how it turned out.

Been wanting to do this, but might just wait till its time to upgrade and move away from Samsung... Looking forward to seeing how it turns out for you.

Any results yet?
Why would you pay to go back to stock if you rooted it, why not just reload the stock ROM?

Because they will go back to 4.1.1 which is an unlocked bootloader...THEN you can install ANY compatible rom without using safestrap
Seems kinda lazy to me.. Why even been in this type of forum if you aren't up to doing it yourself. Might as well get that other phone which we won't utter its name lol

Because if you took the 4.3 or higher Ota or have a phone pre-installed with it, then you can't revert back to an older version of Android where the bootloader can be unlocked. This service is supposed to be able to do that with the hardware they have.

Seems kind of crazy that if you ARE on a forum like this AND own this phone you don't know this...it is ALL over the forum about Knox & 4.3. I heard the "other" phone is on sale if you decide to get one!
Well I have my phone back and as advertised, they took my phone back to 4.1.2 with the VRAMC3 bootloader which is as we all know, unlocked. I'll tell you that it was worth every penny. And it wasn't the "lazy way out". It was the only way out. There is no way to unlock the updated bootloader, which you would know by reading the threads for this phone. And by the way, here, or XDA forums, is where I found the information to even do this. I have my unlocked phone back and am happily flashing again.

NICE!
Might have to send mine off...I might be getting the Verizon LG G3 soon though...
I am very pleased with the way my phone turned out. I am now running Alliance build 26 for the first time without safestrap. Hell, I even had Carbon room on it for a bit the first day I got it back. It is awesome to have my unlocked bootloader back again. I highly recommend their services.

Pleased that YOU had a good experience!
I'm surprised to see that someone else had a good experience with this company. So far dealing with this company has been a huge disappointment; not the impression I was under, considering all of the good reviews. I guess "service" just like products are like everything else...sometimes you get a lemon. I'm about to dispute the charge based on suspected fraud.

I can vouch for Josh. He does get busy. Just think about all the phone he gets sent. I will tell you that he is good for his work, will be fair, and if you have an issue, he will work something out with you (this is from my personal experience) He had my phone for over a month. But apologized for it and did not charge me the fee. (not saying he will do this for you) But I know it's hard but be patient and he will get back to you.
How much interest and phone development do you guys think this phone will get?
If the forum is dead it can make the phone slightly boring.
It's dead, but the device is incredibly new an a niche device, give it time

Thats fair. I bought it knowing that there is a possibility I might never enjoy root or any development.

Same. All I need is root & I'll be fine. Stock is great as is to me & I used to be a flashaholic.

I left my note 4 developer edition.. I sooo loved the SDcard and open bootloader and removable battery.. But i got tired of update issues, faulty roms, it was hard to leave but so far im doing good. I miss root but its not as important as it once was.
I would love root on this phone for a lot of reasons and I hope soon but **** it out, but if not, it happens, my turbo never got a proper root and 1/2 root cost $20. This device is pretty snazzy stock, but it would fly rooted

Agreed. I believe that the OEM unlock option in the developer options could make rooting possible on this device, but with KNOX, I'm not sure if there would be a way to root, even with OEM unlock on...
