Hi, I am now using cyanogenmod recovery and would like to change to twrp. When I use fastboot, windows can't find the right driver for my G2M. Is there anyway to convert the img file to a zip file so I can install it through recovery? And when I try to get root from terminal, it said connection timed out. Using rashr, no root permission. I am using Kingroot.
Change Kingroot to SuperSU.
Why would anyone use Kingroot, anyway?
It's full of bugs.

The problem is I can't replace kingroot with superuser. Terminal keep on saying connection timed out when entering su. But I was able to semi-root my g2m and install twrp. I guess I'll have to root my phone again when I need to use rashr.
P.S. I'm the same person as hokiukiu.

If you have a working custom recovery, then flash the SuperSU installer zip.

Go to recovery and flash super su zip file, or if you have rooted by jcase method, install super su from playstore.

Google 15 second adb install xda. That'll setup adb and fastboot on your pc.
Download the twrp image file from here
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/volantis
Download supersu 2.4 to your device from here http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip
Boot your device into the bootloader and with it connected to the pc open a Windows command window in the same directory as the twrp.img is in. Then run the command
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
(Note. Use the full name of the twrp.img that you downloaded)
Then boot into recovery, it'll be twrp now, and install supersu

Hi There,
Well you are asking How to Root and Flash a Custom TWRP recovery on your device WITHOUT USING A PC.
Well i am not sure that this will root your device or not but you should try this.
*Download FramaRoot
*Follow the Steps and Reboot you maybe asked to choose 1 option among 3 you may choose the 2nd one.
------------------------------------------
Now Comes the TWRP recovery
I am 100% sure that this will work.
Download the TWRP Recovery for you device from www.twrp.com
or google for it.
Download it in either .zip extension or .img
*Then Download Flashify
*Install it on your Device and Click On Recovery then chose the format you have downloaded the recovery in.
*Browse to the folder that contains TWRP and choose the file and click flash.
Note: If flashify crashes i,e the app closes by itself then use Flash Recovery.
If helped click Thanks

OK so I unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP Recovery, and then flashed superSU in twrp. When I boot into system it still doesn't have root.. I tried to dl superSU from play store but it won't work .. any ideas?

What version of TWRP are did you install?
I had that same problem with the newest TWRP 2.8.6.0, so I downgraded to TWRP 2.8.5.0 and flashed Superuser 2.46.. See if that helps!

i had the same problem, and this method from another thread fixed it for me, using 2.8.6.0

There's no installation of SuperSU in that log.
But if you already have a stock backup, let's do this:
Under Advanced, choose Terminal, press the select button to start it in the root folder, and then type this command:
Code:
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system /system
Then run the SuperSU installer zip.

Please read the TWRP thread. Everything you need is there.
And that'll prevent you from losing the ability to ever take an OTA . . . .

You can use Kingo Root app, then use file in attachment to replace Kingo root app to SuperSU. But I am not responding for any damage. (but for me it worked well).
This is probably easiest way (for me )
Flash this in recovery after installing recovery.

Do i need to flash it on a pc or can i do it threw my phone ive neverrooted before it was done qhen i bought the phone used so i got lucky

King root says it doesnt have aroot for my phone
You can do this from phone.
Just go to settings > about and tap 7 times at build number, then go to Developer settings and enable USB debbuging. Now download Kingo Root app, install and launch it and continue.
If evertything goes well (without errors) you can install recovery, eg. Nut's dual recovery and switch to SuperSU (highly recommended!) with this zip:
