Device connection status on another device? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running a note 2 as my phone and a note 4 as a portable entertainment system so to speak and usually hot spot my note 2 if I want Internet on my note 4. Is there any way to share my connection status note 2, to my note 4 so I don't have to keep turning my note 2 on to see if I have 3g or 4g etc?

WIFI

my wifi on my note 2 keeps switching from 4g lte to wifi every minute or two. Even if its on idle nor in use, it switches

The phone grabs the best available signal, but if the signals are equal strength it goes to wifi.
You can turn off wifi or cellular, depending on which one you want.
When inturn of data and start usung the phone wifi just turns off and on

Perhaps the users in the note 2 forums will have the answers you need, as they share the same device.
Our note1 devices do not have this problem.
I suggest you check the note2 areas for your answer....g

How is everybodys signal compared to there note 2?

I don't know why but it seems my signal on my note 3 is weaker than my note 2 for some reason im in san antonio and im rooted with the update.just wondering if anybody else is having signal issues with there note 3.
Signal on mine has been really good but the phone I had before was the galaxy s4. Been finally getting 4g in my area for a few months now so I'm sure that's the reason I've been getting better signal

Signal on mine is horrible. I keep getting my calls lost /dropped within 5 seconds of dialing out. Returning mine and going back to my SGSII
Mine is great!! I really don't see the issues everyone is having

I'm also getting a much better signal than on my Note 2. The Note 3 is consistently in the -90--99 dbm range in my basement and the Note 2 is always between -101 and -109. I don't even need my airave anymore.

Horrible data speed on VZW note 3

I never expect Verizon galaxy note 3 has a terrible data speed, does anyone experience the slowest speed on note 3? I did a variety of speed test in different location side by side with vzw galaxy s4, the s4 data speed is 90% faster than note 3. What's a stepback!

Your argument is invalid
?Note III?
I've tested my note 3 against my note 2 and there was a definite speed increase. I ran the test in three different locations and several test sites in and it off my area, and each time my Note 3 out performed the Note 2. It wasn't always a huge duende but it was naturals and repeatable.
I also notice you are comparing results from the s-series vs the Note series. Could that be an apples and oranges comparison?

So what is the best way to get a faster data speed like vzw s4, I have s4 and note 3 side by side, same location and I do the test at the same time repeatedly, galaxy s4 averages speed is about 45 mbps and I look at vzw note 3, download speed averages at 11 mbps. Please tell me what should I adjust? Modem, kernel flash?
On the s4 did you have the update already? Vzw s4 newest update was supposed to enable band 4 so if that's true you would have faster speeds on the s4. Especially if you have not activated it on the note 3. After I turned on band 4 I was getting 24 to 28 Mbps.
There is an older thread about data speed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531080

Note 8 reception/speed worse than Note 5 ??

I have the Note 5 and the Note 8, both T-Mobile branded. I haven't tested the wifi yet, but as far as cellular reception/speed goes, the 2-year old Note 5 seems to consistently outperform the Note 8, and in some cases, crushes the newer model. I felt the Note 8 was slower, but I was able to confirm objectively looking at the consistent numbers generated by the speedtest app.
Is the Note 8 cellular reception known to be below average or was the Note 5 a stellar performer? Or is it likely that I have a Note 8 that's an underperforming dud?
Should I bring the Note 8 to a T-Mobile store and have one of the associates run the speedtest app simultaneously with another one of their Note 8s that are on display (with T-Mobile SIMs in both)?

My Note 8 running the speed test app is faster than my rooted Nexus 6 and my S8+. I'd take it to a T-Mobile store and see what they have to say. The Nexus 6 runs around 50Mbps, the S8+ runs around 60Mbps and the Note 8 hits 80Mbps all at the same exact spot.
My N8 is a UK exynos unbranded & my N5 is a Tmobile. At home where I don't get geat reception, my N8 shows lower bars than my N5. But my speed is faster on my my N8. Wifi speed is pretty much the same.
Didnt own the Note 5, but did own the Note 3 and Note 4, about the same speeds on my Note 8 here, all T MO versions.
How do you guys that buy imported devices utilize warranty, or don't you?
Ok... so I played around with another T-Mobile Note 8 and the results were very similar to the first one. The older T-Mobile Note 5 seems to be more capable of pulling in weak signals in a shielded building. However, the Note 8 has a much higher ceiling provided that the reception is good. In the mall parking lot of the T-Mobile store, I was able to download at a speed of 150+ Mb/s on the Note 8 while the Note 5 was limited to around 100 Mb/s.
From what I've read newer faster frequencies are weaker...that's why 5G antennas are being deployed at shorter distances...
I have the unlocked Note 8 version running on T-Mobile, with a family member who has the Mobile version of the Note 8. When doing speed test next to each, the unlocked version seams to be a lot faster. Seems like the unlocked version is using CA more efficiently. While the T-Mobile version camps on Band 12 as primary more often even with a decent band 2, or 4 available. The unlocked version seams to choose, a less overloaded band as the primary band first.
Speed test were around 20-40mb faster with the unlocked version, some areas even had double the speed. A few times the speeds were very close between the two. Might be the radio needs to be updated, or you can try flashing the unlocked version radio.

I recently upgraded from a T-Mobile Note 5 to a Note8. We travel from Greensboro, NC to Harrisburg, PA quite often and I've noticed that on those trips the Note 5 outperformed the Note8 in reception. Couldn't believe it myself.
This is what I'm continuously finding, pretty consistently... that when the signal is strong, the Note 8's speed is pretty awesome and trounces the Note 5. However, when the signal is lacking, the Note 8 really struggles pretty badly. I hope T-Mobile will fix this with their next update. The fact that the unlocked version of the Note 8 seems to pull in signals better than the T-Mobile-branded version (reportedly) means that this should be fixable by firmware.
My speed tests using same location and server are almost the same with my other Samsung device compared to my tmo Note 8. Not better and not worst.

This is easily the fastest phone I've had both Wi-Fi and network.
My n5 is be lucky to hit 80 mbs off the network and 55 on Wi-Fi. I pay for 65 off Spectrum.
The n8 I get 150 off the network and right on the nose of 65 for Wi-Fi.
Mines the T-Mobile verison.

It seems to be better than my Note 5 when I had it. But it definitely has better signal in areas than my V20 did.

Ha ha. I work in Manhattan and I would think the service here should be very good because usually bigger cities get better service. But here I get full bars and it says 4glte but probably getting 3g speeds. It's a shame. Lol

I live in a small city compared to you. I'd imagine a city like Manhattan gets bogged down some. Sucks for sure.

Yup. That's why I need to move to a small city then I'll finally be able to watch a YouTube video without turning in my WiFi. Lol

Note 4 user still looking for answers.Hotspot Max users on note 8? galaxy tools work?

Limited to 8 users on hotspot ? Or is there a workaround? Use galaxy tools on my note 4 to set any number.
With all my smarthome gear I get up to 15 connections with company, Over 10 normally
Looking to upgrade phones and switch to T-Mobile but wondering if I'm better off getting a T-Mobile note 4 first that I can use as my home Wi-Fi. Vs a note 8 or 9 that will likely be overkill for just a hotspot line that only supports 8 connections Max.

I've never had that many devices hooked to my phone at once to test max users..lol. It does say 8 devices max in settings though. I went from note 4 to the note 8 and my dl speeds are Awesome with Tmobile!
Wow
Those speeds are blazing in comparison.
I'm getting 25-40 down and 3-7 up
Been reading about T-Mobile hotspot throttling though. Cable company wants 6 grand to install cable. I use around 100gb a month and even when I'm over my 4g limit of 50g I rarely see a noticeable decline in speeds. Possibly due to my rural location.
Waiting for note 10 now to see if there are any pricing deals. Seems 400-600 is going rate for a good used 9 now. Not interested in the 8 anymore really. People still want to much for it in comparison.
