Lolipop cm base rom alternative? - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i got a V10 about a week or two ago and rootit. given that that all the MM roms I see for the V10 have camera issues I was wandering if there is any none stock rom for the V10. I tried the last CM 12 official nightly for the V10 and got an issue where it will go to sleep but wont wake up so I had to pull the battery every time. I reverted back to rooted stock but wanted to know if there is any other alternative. also, if the rom lets me turn off the second screen that would be nice. I don't care much for the second screen.

There really isn't anything else available. The second screen isn't an issue, since you can turn it off on stock, in the display settings, and it doesn't work at all on anything non-stock.

4.3 is AWfFUL!

Upgraded to official 4.3 UK release, from an unmodded 4.2.2, and it's awful.
Lock ups, freezes, flickering screen, bluetooth failure and spontaneous reboots.
Undoubtedly the buggiest version of any mobile OS I ever had on anything.
My advice: Stay away from this piece of **** until the many bugs have been ironed out.
And to think that we're only getting 4.3 when really it should have been 4.4 straight away.
Shame on you, Sony!
Haven't had a single issue with mine and im on 4.3 bad flash maybe?

I have to agree with zombiej79 my tab is a lot better with 4.3 bizarre ...... no bad issue

You could flash a custom ROM? I use pacman 4.3 or go with cm10.1 (4.2.2) or CM 10.2 (4.4.2 Kitkat)
I recommend the pacman. Has more tweaks and GPS works. Official cm GPS is not working but everything else does and both ROMs are very stable.
Can someone explain to me what the advantages of using stock fw on this device? I was pretty sure that there weren't any.

Just a corection.cm11 is android 4.4.2 and on latest nightly gps works.about the advantage of using stock fw i have a feeling that the battery is a bit better but i dont really know as i dont have stock fw since 4.1.2.how is your battery on cm11?
I tend to agree that it is probably a bad flash... I think the 4.3 update is the best yet for the Tab Z. Performance is up by atleast 2k points in Antutu and even daily use seems much smoother. No crashes or lockups till now and I've been using the tab non-stop since the update (without any kind of restart).

Have you done a factory reset after upgrade to 4.3 ?
I also had issues after upgrading, byt a friendly user here told me to try a factory reset - since that the only issue I have is random flickering when keyboard is active, everything else works like a dream
4.3 is Solid Stable and Smooth, don't have any single issue as mention by OP.
Complete reset on the device seems to have fixed the problems. Wasn't even able to back up with Sony Companion.
Happy for now (after a couple of hours or re-installing and re-configuring), but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I'm using pacrom now which is jb 4.3.battery is very good! I'll do a full battery drain and will post results sometime next week. I use greenify which im sure helps and use boot manager. This ROM also has a number of power saving options you can implement not found on cm ROMs under the pacrom settings. Its my daily driver. i really like this tablet! Took it snorkling today in Barbados, it doesn't float to well, luckly I still have it! had it out all day taking photos in the ocean, screen full brightness, was 70% when I got home. That's with No Bluetooth or WiFi. This ROM does a great job too of retaining juice when its in a suspend state. Very little drain

I have only 2 reboots playing n.o.v.a. 3 everything else is simply perfectly
My experience is that 4.3 blows, just as OP stated.
I did the initial update - lots of crashes/freezes.
So I did a repair - same issue
Then re-flashed using flashtool - still bad
And then flashed 4.2.2 - and tablet is back to its former glory.
What could possibly be causing some users to be having such a hard time with it, while others are loving it?
So strange how this has been happening. There must be something with some of the firmwares. I'm one of the people who have had no issue with 4.3

Installing a new Operation System on a old one, can cause problems and instability. That`s not Android or Sony specific.
The only issue I have experienced is the random screen flicker when using the keyboard... Hope there is a fix soon, or else I may have to look into whether there is a way to downgrade to 4.2.2.
New to the device, so not sure is there is a Sony equivalent to something like Odin for Samsung...

4.3 woes
I had problems with the 4.3 ota upate. Had screen flickering, especially bad when running chrome browser. and the pulldown notification shade was down and dimmed the back screen
random reboots, freezing. tablet was practically unuseable.
flashed my original firmware back over and all was working great again.
tried again with 4.3 and back to the same antics with it.
I have however reflashed a modified 4.3 with super user root and recovery built in and can say ive had no problems appart from occasional excessive battery drain from the kernel, a reboot usual fixes it.
Could it be the UK ftf that's more.buggy? I'm using Nordic and no issues on my end

Back to jellybean for now. Kitkat issue on G2 Int

Hi guys I have'nt found much information on this forum regarding the intermittent lag/crashes on G2s that I'm experiencing (d802 version specifically) running kitkat aosp ROMs so I thought I might report my experience to see if I'm not alone here.
After I upgraded from CM 10.2 to CM11 my device would start lagging at random times during the day followed itevitably by a crash mostly after about 3 minutes of use (messaging, browsing, youtubing etc) where the screen would freeze and go black (and eventually come back.)
A reboot was always necessary which resolved the problem temporarily. These crashes happened between 1-3 times per day and were extremely frustrating.
The device in question is a d802 running CM11 and stock kernel.
They happened after fresh installs, even with only system apps. I tried flashing a custom kernel, playing with different settings and switching to other kitkat ROMs with little to no change.
I finally bit the bullet and switched back to CM10.2 stable and all is well with my phone now. I couldn't make the phone lag if I tried, its back to its beasty glory.
This device clearly must have an issue with Aosp ROMs on kitkat (or maybe I just picked a bad one) and its a real shame. If anyone has the same problem please share your experiences and maybe we can get to the bottom of this thing

yep stock is better than cm11 or any aosp roms. aeonflex was a really good rom so was cloudy flex. they are flex based
CM11 has always been buggy for me. Try running a different 4.4 ROM,
Nameless is running perfectly for me

Pretty surprising that all the big players like cm or aokp would be the buggiest. At least there's other options for an upgrade

I'm using omni. Without any issues at all. No freezes or anything like that.
Tried PA and CM11, both really buggy, just like the op described. Flashed cm10.2 but it just doesnt work with my fitbit so now ive gone back to stock. While stock is good, it just feels so sow compared to asop based roms.
If you want a AOSP rom really hard, try "Mahdi" rom.. i tried it for a day and it fits perfectly for me
But now i'm on stock rom (CloudyStock) because... it's awesome and i like the LG UI
Using Mahdi combined with the furnace kernel, no slowdowns and very rarely do I get random reboots. Highly suggested :good:
I have these freezes several times a day too. I noticed one time that my systemui stopped working with it
my guess: maybe it has something to do with the systemui?
CM11 ran great for me on my D801, but I just couldn't deal with the in call echo issue.

blame closed source drivers. the devs making these customs pull hattricks so you can have a custom rom. All without documentation and such, thats why they can be buggy.

Is the speed really noticeable?
Or
Is it worth it to upgrade just because of this speed factor?

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I'm currently using the latest carbon ROM nightly and its running like clockwork. Will update if anything changes though.
But its definitely worth experimenting with other ROMs.

Lag and sd card

So I have tried almost every thing to fix the lag that came with lollipop 5.1.1 my phone locks up and becomes completely unresponsive . Until I reboot. Often when I'm browsing and the phone rings I am not able to answer it and end up rebooting the phone and calling back the missed call. I was about to revert to kitkat when I decided to try removing my micro sdcard. I opened up a lot of apps YouTube Facebook Twitter etc. And had my wife call me twice. So far no problems and no lag. If I can get by for a week like this with no issues I will just live without the sdcard. Otherwise I go back to kitkat
I'm noticing the same thing on 5.1.1 and I haven't been able to isolate it. I thought it might be a corrupted app so I downgraded or reinstalled frequently used apps. Still testing. Downgrading to KK isn't an option for me because I want to be patched for stage fright. I wish they would release a KK rom that's patched.
According to the stage fright app 5.1.1 is still vulnerable.
hey ashraf sharif i've been going thru the same thing it is so annoying to have to take back cover off then batt because phone won't respond also i had to disable volte because some phone call will not ring my phone they would go straight to voice mail turn volte off fix that problem. the other thing i notice with the upgrade when you take a picture and you want to send it usually i would select the < with the 3 dots=share via and then i can pick message it no longer says that. only choice now wifi bluetooth i made a back up of 5.0 might go back to that later on today

Yeah. I hear ya. The Lookout app says I'm not patched either but I thought it was well known that OG6 patched for Stagefright. So I'm not sure I trust the Lookout app. Anyone else know for sure?
i dont remove the battery i just press vol down and home and power . this reboots it. removing the sdcard helps alot initially but the longer the phone is on the buggier it gets. im going back to kitkat
doing a ob1 right now from scratch getting tired of turning phone on off on off will leave it on ob1 until a better approve working update is put out
I'm back on nk2 kitkat towelroot. My phone seems like new. Lollipop simply demands more ram than the s5 has . This happened with the Motorola atrix when ice cream sandwich was released. Motorola decided not to upgrade the atrix . A test firmware was leaked that was extremely Laggy and drained the battery in less than half an hour. Every android phone I had ran better on the earlier firmwares. I Will Wait Another 8 Months Till My 2 S5s Are Paid Off By that Time I can get the s7. The thing that kills me is I'm not even debloated on nk2 and it runs with no stutters and freezes at all.im just glad the phone is stable again

I have the exact same issues! I was really hoping I wouldn't have them, but I do. Just started happening 2 days ago. It really really pisses me off! They should have put 3gb of ram on this phone. The note 3 has 3 and this phone came out after it. Either way, I am not happy at all! I'm going to try a couple different Roms from the international section and see what happens. But this isn't working.

Update, nothing is working! I'm so sick of this phone. I'm taking it back to RAC right now, and I'm gonna ask for a note 3. At least the note 3 I've had before and can handle lollipop. I'm so frustrated with Samsung over this S5 it isn't even funny. I'll update and let u guys know what and if Rent a Center gives me a different phone.

I can report that after a few days of use the phone is much more responsive. All the lag seems gone.
I'm having nothing but problems with the S5 and lollipop. Major lag even after Turning down the animations. I'm using my M8 right now, and it's day and night between the 2! Samsung really dropped the ball on the S5 lollipop update. The phone should have came with 3 gigs of ram. Nuff said!

Hi I was wondering if this means you're running on KitKat, or if you went back to Lollipop. I really want to stop this lag!
I've spoken to samsung and t mobile about this lag. They both made it seem like I'm the only one with this problem. Good thing I know better.
yea just like they ashure me that they fix stagefright but every app i tried says vulnerable and not to worried also have you notice that when you take a picture and go to the top to pich share with it no longer has message every thing is either wifi this or that .but back to your question yes i went back to 5.0=OB1 firmware

LG G3 (vs985) What custom ROM are you on?

Just a simple poll.
I'd love to find out what Custom ROMs people have loaded and which one they are currently on and why.
No tolling, just curious.
Thanks.
(On the poll I included what seem to be the 13 most popular by views.)
I'm on xdabbebs vs985 2.0 and its been rock solid for me. I've only run aosp rims for maybe a couple of days at the most, there good but just not for me.

As far as ROMs I've flashed, it seems like just about all of them lol but currently on Resurrection Remix and have been on it for a while. As far as why this ROM, because I want Marshmallow and I've found this to be the best for me in terms of features and stability.
I found a different ROM that had more features and I would have really liked to keep using, but there wasn't an official maintainer for vs985 so there were some weird issues that weren't likely to be fixed (ex. proximity sensor didn't work so the screen didn't turn off when holding your phone by your face, auto rotate didn't work, etc.)
After that ROM I decided to try stock MM ("real" stock, not stock-based or xdabbeb's) to avoid any weird problems thinking with LG and Verizon's QA I shouldn't really have any weird problems compared to custom ROMs that are constantly under development. This was true, but there were a lot of little things I was missing that custom ROMs give you so I found myself trying to do some workarounds to get some of them back. Then after a while I realized battery life was crazy. When my phone wasn't being used, my battery would last a REALLY long time. However, that was offset by it eating my battery up whenever I did use it. I mean like 95% after half a day of no use, then dropping to like 80% after 20 minutes of use. When I found myself limiting my use to conserve battery, it was time to go back to a custom ROM. That's when I went (back) to Resurrection Remix.

Anyone running stock 6P?

Three days after receiving my 6P, I unlocked the bootloader, put TWRP and installed a custom ROM. First ROM would reboot randomly, second ROM was OK, but when I tried a CM based ROM, it went south. I tried to restore and none of my nandroids worked, so I had to reset the whole phone with the Nexus tool root kit. Not to mention that I couldn't use android pay if I wanted to ( not that I ever have yet). I'm going to try to go stock for a while and see if I can tolerate it . Anyone else?
No problem here with Chroma ROM
Nexus 6P with Chroma rocks!
Coming from a LG G3 running aosp Roms, theming and kernel tweeks having the 6P is a nice change. I'll run it stock for awhile.

Stock, rooted.
Pure Nexus/EX Kernel combo here. I just wish stock had a couple more options otherwise I might consider running it. I guess I'm just SO used to things like gestures to wake & sleep the phone when it's sitting on my desk, quick pulldown on the status/notification area, and handy shortcuts like holding the power button for flashlight (which I use all the time lol) that I just can't get away from custom stuff Only thing I sometimes miss is AP, but quite honestly that's pretty rare and if worst comes to worst I currently have a 2nd phone (work one) that I can use for that. Have a co-worker though who's all about stock, so to each their own!
There are already a couple similar threads
100% stock seems to be the best.
Stock Rom or Custom Rom?
